We ended up hiking about 6 miles in nice shaded area on the trails. Some rocks and roots, so you must be careful. Relatively flat with a few small hills. The big downside is there are no trail markers or signs, so having a person in your group that is familiar with the area is necessary. We had two people that knew the trails, so zero markings was not a problem for us. Great outdoor area. Currently (4/23) there is construction of new water treatment plant along the river. Not many people here, so is sort of a hidden gem. Every one in our group enjoyed the hike. Lots of free parking. Restrooms available, but they were so-so inside. Definitely worth a stop. Also CRNRA Jones Bridge unit is across the river for additional hiking trails and is very well marked for easier navigation.

What I loved most was seeing all of the deer in plain sight. What I loved least was hearing our coonhound barking at all the deer relentlessly. The only complaint is that the bathrooms were absolutely disgusting. Also, we like to let our dog go for a swim off leash which is not normally an issue. However, off one of these trails, she jumped from a steep embankment and wasn't able to jump back up. This was really our fault for not checking first whether she would be able to get out of the water. Thankfully a few of the passing kayakers stopped to help us. Parts of the trail back up into people's backyards which is also kind of strange, so you don't necessarily feel as though you've been transported to somewhere remote. But all in all it's a fun place to walk and the trail is not too challenging.

Due to crazy Covid, we had some miscommunication and I thought all hope was lost, but Rev Rick didn't take long to correct the mistake! The gazebo is beautiful. The deck is lighted so nicely. The bridal and groom suites were comfortable. It was nice to have the whole place to ourselves sans options setup for move inside if weather necessary. We brought our own officiant & photographer, etc but Rev Rick helped setup our decor, shuttled around our family on the golf cart, and was just overall ready and willing to help with a smile. Such kind people on a day when kindness goes a long way!

Cindy does an unbelievable job in coordinating the event. She is quick to offer suggestions that can put those special touches on your day! They have a list of vendors, bakers, florists, tuxedo providers, photographers and videographers that they have worked with and they can speak to the quality of their work. Many of these vendors will offer you special rates and packages when they know you are having your wedding at the Castle. The staff there is friendly, attentive and a real pleasure to work with. On the day of the wedding the entire staff really shines. We had some of the family that could not go to the buffet and get their food. Without saying a word the staff talked to the disabled guests and made plates for them. I cannot say enough about this place. We had TONS of complements from friends, family and other guests about how wonderful and special the wedding was.

When we started looking a year ago for a venue for my son's wedding in 2023 (this year), we chose this venue because it was small, charming and very affordable- it was under a different name and ownership. In March of this year (2023) it was sold, and purchased by Southern Grace Event Center. Our wedding was not going to be until June and honestly I had no idea what to expect- from renovations to change in ownership. Let me say, on June 3rd, we could not have asked for a more beautiful setting for a wedding! The venue was BREATHTAKING. The changes and upgrades included an open chapel with beautiful architectural design, new bride and groom suites, a completely renovated indoor reception hall with exposed beams on the ceiling, new chandeliers and floor to ceiling stone fireplace, a covered patio w a fireplace and a passthrough window from the bar (we used this as a cigar bar patio) as well as stunning gardens that included a waterfall, blooming roses and hydrangeas. IT WAS AMAZING! And, the new owner John was a joy to work with--so delightful and accommodating. He honored everything in our original contract and more. It was such a lovely experience and an unforgettable, gorgeous wedding.

NO WAY HOSEA! Let me…read morejust say that I was not the primary consideration during this visit, I was asked to tag along and give an opinion. Well, I did not actually have to give an opinion because the venue spoke for itself. The person that was considering the venue actually rated it -5 on a scale of 1 to 5. Following is my reaction to our visit: We made an appointment to meet with John to check out his wedding venue. He actually described it as a tour but it turned out to be one dirty, unsightly room with unmatched furniture and a ridiculous set up. It is the type of place that you pull up to and keep going because once you see the location, you don't need to see the rest. First of all, this place is in a very run down area of town, with limited parking. It is a building that is connected to other businesses so it does not stand alone. The "chapel" really is just one room that has some chairs and cheap decorations placed throughout. I don't care what kind of budget is involved, this would NEVER be an option. You would be much better off just getting married outdoors in a more personalized setting. To sum it up: No Additional Thoughts: When you are considering the venue, also consider the person who will be taking your photos because oral and physical presentation does matter and this is the person you will have to see and interact with on your wedding day. Make sure that when you are looking at photos, you are seeing the complete picture, (not just photos taken of the stage, but from the stage), so you will know exactly what you will be looking at during the ceremony. You want to be okay with the entire room as there should be no distractions on your special day. Before you get excited about the photos you see, verify that they are actually taken at the site because they may be taken at another venue and will not be relevant to you. Be aware of the general area and make sure that it is safe, and has convenient and ample parking. Make sure that there are appropriate rooms and toilet facilities for taking care of business and changing. KNOW BEFORE YOU GO!

They never told us about the wedding they ended up booking; we found out about the wedding and they refused to talk to us much less refund us what they said they would. My parents took them to small claims court and won the case, and they still won't pay. If they had just told us that we could not have our deposit back, we would have made it work. But they chose to get an extra pay day instead. I would not want to have such uncaring, dishonest people in charge of such a special day in my life. And you can see from other reviews that this is a part of how they make a living. I hope I saved someone some stress and disappointment by finally posting our experience.
