I've observed several years of Juline performances. I was professionally trained in ballet and have friends who have danced with SFB, NYCB, ABT, Houston, Bejart, etc. Juline is exercise and fun. It is not ballet. Proper technique is not taught and children who learn there will not have the necessary foundation to become professional ballet dancers. If what you want for your child is just exercise and fun, Juline is fine. If your child is serious about ballet, go elsewhere. read more

It breaks my heart to put a rating like this on here. It is taking me a year to decide to post this and at the end of the day I don't know how much of a difference it's going to make, but the truth is which is extremely important to put out there. My daughter is on the spectrum and has developmental delays. just like any other mother, you want your child to experience things and grow and learn and evolve even if it's harder for them, you can only hope that given the situation where you're starting a new program, there are things put in place to help her to succeed. Julian school of dance is great for kids that aren't on the spectrum but for children that are, not so much. When they first introduced Their program. My daughter was so happy to be there. They had an incredible staff and then after our second year there when Covid broke out and we made it through that. However, after Covid things went majorly downhill. They decided to introduce the small room and jam Pack it with a large age group anywhere from five to I believe it was 15. And there was a special-needs baby in there that could barely move and all she did was cry and it was setting my daughter off. On top of the two toddlers that were running around in the smallest room they had. I couldn't get my daughter to go back the following week. When she saw the baby she said oh that's the baby that was crying. The mother gave me a dirty look. The only way they wanted to resolve it is by putting her in a regular setting. And a regular dance class which wasn't going to work for my daughter. I had to pay the deposit and the first month. I wasn't giving any of my money back. There's a great deal of lack of understanding of children on the spectrum. And if you're going to introduce a program. Don't change it if it's already succeeding. If it Has to do with funding, then raise the prices!!! I'm more than happy to pay more to have what I had in the beginning. But to go back and just spend all that money on her clothes, her shoes, the deposit to monthly part and to get none of that back. I was extremely disappointed because during Covid I continued to allow them to have that money taken out of our account, even though you could only watch and participate online. And my daughter wasn't interested in doing that at the time. And I felt bad for them and wanted to support them because I knew they still needed the money. I was supporting them, but they didn't support me as a special-needs parent. And at the end of the day my daughter is not polished looking. She is on the spectrum and noises do bother her. And they failed us as a special-needs family. I can only hope in the future that they can go back to the drawing board and do it right. And be a better part of our community and serve our special needs families and support them in a better way. read more

I've been taking my 3 year old daughter here. She loves to dance the only thing is not being able to watch her every week. One time I was waiting for her instructor to arrive before leaving her unattended i was told quickly this isn't visitation week. My daughter loved her dance class and teacher. I just think the staff could be a lot more kind and understanding. read more

Great dance studio! Their dance lessons are fun, productive, and have a great balance of urgency for learning whole keeping it pretty chill. Their instructors are involved, kind, and engaging. Their performances are involved and impressive without being stressful. As a school principal, their child development practices are excellent. We've had our 11 and 8 yr olds each there since age 5. Their communication as a business is excellent and they are very easy to work with. Highly recommend for any boys and girls who want to dance! With COVID-19, they continued excellent communication to families, a clear plan, and excellent online courses at a very reasonable price. So far so good! Desiree is really the only staff member I have communicated with at time of registration, I have seen the dance instructor however I have yet to meet her formally. My child is excited after each class and always wants to come back, the other day my child said "I can't wait to be an advance dancer like those guys" My child is an 8 year old boy who was scared to join ballet because of the social stigma that "it's for girls" my son got very happy when he saw another young boy there and even more excited when I took him to the room next door to watch the SENIOR dancers! I think we were both in awweee on how good they were and how amazing they looked. Hopefully this school helps my son with the instruction of dance and they realize his passion for it. read more

Great teachers, friendly staff and a caring approach to being on stage. I love how the recitals are set up in a way to encourage the kids to participate but never pressured. And it's all about the kids. My daughter attended another local dance school where this wasn't the case- I had to pay a ridiculous amount to watch the teachers dance more than kids! Not here! And I love it. So does my daughter, she loves dance and csn wait to go each day. read more

This is not a good dance school if you are hoping for professional instruction in dance. My daughter recently attended this school, her teacher was unfriendly and did not teach the basic ballet technique at all. I observed dancers in the older ballet classes trying to stand on point shoes, unable to straighten their knees! This extremely unsafe, no matter what the circumstance. The dance recital was out doors in 100 degree heat. Dancers also had no choice but to wear their expensive dance shoesA walking through dirt and dead leaves. This is an extremely unprofessional dance school, and I was very disappointed with the response to my criticism from the director of the school. If you're looking for a dance studio that will provide good training and/or encourage positive self-esteem in your child, you'd be better off saving your time and hard-earned money by heading elsewhere. Under the management of its original owner, Juline School of Dance was a place where children could thrive - the environment was positive and each child was treated with respect. Good teachers were in residence, and excellent master teachers were brought in to supplement the students' training. Unfortunately, times have changed. The current owner has done an excellent job of turning the dance studio into a money-making machine - great for the owner, but at the expense of the children. The teachers are home-grown, meaning they have little experience outside the world of Juline School of Dance; their training as both dancers and teachers leaves much to be desired. Attending the annual dance recital in Graceada Park drives that point home. On the surface the environment appears positive and the right words are spoken (e.g., that positive self-esteem is the main goal). However, words are not actions - I personally observed the owner treating one young child completely differently from the others, even going so far as to ask the child to choose between her best friend and being able to perform (right in front of the child's best friend). This is definitely not the kind of environment I would choose to put my child in, and I would certainly not recommend it for anyone else. read more

Amazing program for boys. Boys and men who live in the Central Valley and love dance are very blessed to have an opportunity to take David Arce's open class in Saturday's. Arce danced with San Francisco Ballet professionally and has sent many boys on to San Francisco Ballet School. And his Saturday class has many male dance enthusiasts of all levels and he instills a supportive environment among his students. Julines - School of Dance has got to be the best dance studio in the area, hands down. Unlike other local dance studios, Julines is the only one to create an environment that is both fun and also educational. I have been dancing at the school for about 7 years now and it really has changed my life completely and has given me the foundation to make my dreams a reality. Before enrolling in Juline - School of Dance I spent a year at the school so positively reviewed by "Hilary L"; Deborah Morgan Dance Studio. In was a young 6 year old boy wanting to dance. Within a month of lessons at Deborah Morgan's, we were already spending much of class time working on the recital piece to be performed at the end of the year. Many schools in the area hold a performance in June to give the dancers an opportunity to show their parents what they've learned in the previous nine months. It is an exciting event for a young dancer and much time needs to be spent perfecting the dance, but starting in September is unproductive and foolish. The year I spent there was all focused on that 3 minute dance in June. I didn't learn an ounce of dance technique. That is the way that they operate. It is all about the show at the end of the year. Parents not only have to pay for admission, but they are also expected to pay for costumes that cost hundreds of dollars, per costume, per dance (that will only be worn once). If you want to spend your time and money on a year spent on learning a three minute dance then Deborah Morgan's is the place for you. It will not give you the technique that needed to become a dancer. It won't give any technique at all. I also urge parents with sons to take this into consideration: Deborah Morgan's tolerates boys. If you enroll your son in a dance class he will be allowed to take it, not encouraged. Being a boy that loves to dance is tough enough as it is, and a dance school should understand that, and help him achieve his dreams instead of simply checking his name on a roll sheet and then pretending that he does not exist. In my class there was one other boy. The two of us were ignored all year long. My first class at Juline was a beginner Jazz class over the summer. It was a blast. I had a ton of fun, and not only that, I was learning actual technique. I was being taught not how to do a single dance, but how to be a dancer. I didn't know it at the time though, I was having too much fun. After that first summer I was hooked, and the following year I was taking ballet and jazz classes 3 or 4 times a week. I was having fun, I was learning how to dance, and I was being encouraged to do so. They even made an exception to the dress code and allowed me to wear basketball shorts over my tights to make me feel more comfortable. It was a great year, and then came that infamous recital. It was different at Juline though, it was about the student, and not the big expensive show. There the recital is held at Mancini Bowl in Graceda park. It is a fun, outdoor environment where parents and family members don't have to purchase tickets to attend. We had a blast on that stage, and we showed everyone what we had learned as dancers, not what we'd been practicing since September. Juline masterfully takes the disciplined technique that comes with dance and combines it with fun. You cannot build a career on dance unless you have a technical background, no matter how much fun you're having. Juline has that. Juline has a team of well-educated teachers and there is even a ballet company that aspiring ballet dancers can join when they are old enough. What more could a young aspiring ballet dancer ask for? Taking class in an incredible facility, learning from real professional dancers, and even performing on the Mary Stuart Rogers Stage with the Central West Ballet? It's a dream come true. Juline alums have been accepted to every higher education dance school or college program that there is, but they've also been accepted to some of the best professional ballet institutions in the country. Dancers from Juline have gone off to dance at such schools as the Pacific Northwest Ballet School, the Joffrey Ballet School, the Houston Ballet School, the Boston Ballet School, Katsbaan Extreme Ballet, American Ballet Theatre school, and I myself am currently attending the San Francisco Ballet School. All of these institutions feed into the biggest and best ballet companies in the country, which tells you that whatever technique is being taught at Juline is correct, and it makes a dancer. If you want to dance, or if you have a child that wants to dance, whether it's just for fun or if you have dreams of becoming a professional dancer, Juline - School of Dance is the ONLY option. Juline, home of Juline Regional Youth Ballet Company, the Juline Pre-Professional Division, and the Central California Summer Dance Conservatory, is by far the most established school of fine arts in the Stanislaus region. Their staff is absolutely wonderful working with the students, and I feel like I have grown more as a dancer here, than I did at Modesto Dance Academy. At MDA I felt like I was just going through the motions, and being moved up. Come to find out that was exactly what had been going on. Juline's has a more structured, professional, curriculum and I actually have been progressing. I feel like a performer here. I feel like a dancer. I was actually made to work and had the experience of climbing the ranks and working for what I wanted. It was the best choice I have ever made in my career as a dancer.
