The decor is out-dated and the chairs are uncomfortable. The tables had not been bused so we chose a table with only a few dishes. You must order and pay first then sit down. There is really no service at the table. The drinks are self serve. The chips that they are famous for are made onsite and cost extra. The chips you get at the table seem to be out of the bag. I ordered the tres amigos which comes with a soft taco, a crispy taco and a chalupa. Sides are Spanish rice and pinto beans. The only thing remarkable on the plate was the pinto beans. They were flavorful and delicious. Nothing else on the plate was above par. A friend ordered enchiladas and they were barely edible and had to be sent back due to the fact they were too hard. They were almost like flautas with enchilada sauce. Over all this is obviously a restaurant living on its past reputation. The chips and salsa where terrific I had a chorizo and egg taco which was heavenly and I also ordered an egg and potato taco which is the only reason for 4 stars and not 5 the chorizo and egg was loaded down the potatoes and egg was not also it was bland no seasoning at all even adding the habanero sause it was hard to finish. Julio's is best known for it's chips (which are made at the two Julio's in Del Rio, and three hours north in San Angelo), and it's easily understandable. The chips and salsa are relatable to crack cocaine, because as you start eating them, it is almost impossible to stop. It might be the MSG that is littered all over them, but whatever it is is absolutely delicious. The food is decent (surprisingly just like all the mexican food in this town), but I think a highlight is the breakfast burritos. They have the best chips and salsa by far! This, mixed with their seasoning salt make for a mean meal. Seasoning salt goes well on anything. Steak, Shrimp, Chicken, you name it! So here we go. You have the chips. I didn't even get chips when I ate at the restaurant. These chips are crazy good. I've had them. As seen in the pictures from others the chips and spices cover one side of the place. I did however purchase the spice mixture. Now for the food. It is good but there is a reason they sell chips. Julio's is a chip place that sells food. Most Mexican places you go are the opposite. Remember that when you eat here. It is solid food but nothing is going to wow you. Food came out fast. I had the chicken fajitas. Everything was fine. Would I go back? Probably not. And that is not a knock on the place. I just bet there is better in Del Rio and I am going to find it. Wow, worst food I have had in Del Rio in a long time. Ordered beef fajitas, they came out dry like they had set under a heat lamp all day. Way over salted, wilted salad. Beans and rice ok but how hard is it to get those right. Friend got enchiladas and a chalupa. Chalupa was on a stale tortilla you couldn't even chew. Ate dinner here tonight. A little nervous because of some of the reviews. It was dark and cold so we decided to give it a try. We are vegetarians so we ordered cheese enchiladas. Beans were great! And the rice was ok. The enchiladas which should have been the star of the plate were lacking. Not much cheese and the edges of the tortilla were hard. Gave me the impression they were pre made. The red sauce was just ok. Not much on the beverage front. Refills are limited to one. We would probably eat here again but not sure Julio's would be our go to for Mexican food. read more

Underwhelmed is the way my husband and I would describe this restaurant. The food was mediocre and the tables weren't clean even though there were 3 wait staff behind the counter who seemed more interested in the show on TV than customers. Possibly the best place in the United States to get tacos tapatios. Usually the taco trucks in this town have very stale tapatios, and the meat inside them all comes out in the first bite. All in all, they're phenomenal. Not to mention their famous tortilla chips. I live in Round Rock and they're still my favorite chips to pick up at the grocery store. All of their salsas are top notch, and the seasoning they put on the chips can also be picked up at the grocery store. I put it on almost everything. Their entire menu has much to offer. Stopped in to grab a quick bite to eat. Was stoked to try this place as the chips are solid. Ordered a plate that listed three enchiladas and a taco plus sides. You would think that a chip place would serve chips like every other mexican restaurant on the planet but you would be mistaken. Food came out quickly enough but they forgot to bring the taco. No big deal. While the food had a decent flavor I was surprised that, for the most part, the food was cold. Well, the enchiladas were tepid as was the rice but the beans were cold. Last time I cooked beans they stayed in the pot and that kept them warm so I fail to understand how the heck do beans get cold.......this was about 1:00 PM so it's not like I went there when they were preparing to close. Should have checked Yelp as there was a similar experience. Did not complain to management so they may have done something about it and I was in a hurry and needed to get back on the road. If I had to do it over again I would have gone somewhere else. I thought this was just an off day for them until I read other reviews. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. The famous thin and crispy Julio's chips that we purchase from HEB or Walmart were not the cold, stale, thick, chips we ate at this restaurant and had to pay extra for. One of my favorite things about a Mexican restaurant is the chips and salsa and we should have asked for our money back after being served the nasty chips. I ordered the beef enchilada plate. I received chicken enchiladas with beans and cold rice. My husband ordered the chicken fajita plate. He was served room temperature, unseasoned chicken pieces with soggy bell pepper and onion, beans, and cold rice. His thinking was if the chicken was served at room temperature, how long had it been sitting out before it was served. We ate a few bites and rather than risk getting sick, we left our food on the table and exited the so-called restaurant. Do not waste your time or money at this establishment! We would have been more satisfied purchasing a bag of Julio's chips from the grocery store and heating them up in the microwave with some store bought Julio's salsa! What a disappointment! read more
