We came here as part of a family get together with my girlfriends family. It was my first time visiting this particular Chinese buffet and I am actually fairly impressed. First off the staff actually cares about the place, they were running around grabbing drink orders, grabbings plates off of tables, etc. The selection isn't huge but they do have a sushi bar, but once again without the big selection. They had roughly around 5 different sushi types to choose from and they all tasted good with the exception of one that was subpar. The tables were clean, the staff friendly, and the food actually tasted above average for a Chinese buffet. That could be due to the fact that I was starving, but hey, we all come here to exhaust that. Overall I enjoyed the buffet and the entire experience. Ordered from here to give the new ownership a try and the things I've heard on social media platforms with the improvements. That was not the case. Did delivery. Got 2 orders wrong. When I called they said they were the right dishes, they just make their Chow Mein & Kong Pao Chicken differently. I asked if they could either deliver the right dish & we'd be happy to give the wrong ones back, make the right dishes & I'll drive up & exchange them and refund me the dedlivery fee, or refund those 2 orders and forget about it. I can't think of a single good thing to write about Jumbo. The food dishes run from terrible to mediocre, at best. It sits in warmers for hours and is only refreshed when the pan is empty. My son and I went here for lunch. I have to say, the food was hot and fresh, the wait staff made sure drinks stayed filled. My dining experience was at 7pm on a Saturday night. I only saw one server, whom was friendly. There were only two other tables dining besides myself, a few more people-customers showed before I left, but not many. The young lady at the cash register was not very friendly, talkative or attentive, she acted like I was disturbing her from playing on her cell phone. When I approached the counter to pay my bill, she glanced up at me then looked back her phone. I said that I need to pay my bill, and without speaking, she put out her hand to accept my bill; and payment and after accepting my payment, she just handed me my card back and receipt to sign (no thank you, have a good evening, nothing). I would not even give her a one star rating. There were very low levels of food on the buffet, understandably due to not very many customers to eat it. Even though all of the hot foods were in the buffet steamer pans, most selections were lukewarm to cold. The taste of the food was standard, nothing that was exceptional. I agree with another reviewer about the crab rangoon. It was crab-less, just cream cheese. There was no signage on any of the food items. If you are familiar with any Chinese buffet, you would know what the items were. But, if you are unfamiliar with the items, you would not know what any of the items or sauces were. I dined with my mother and she came back to the table with a ramekin of what she hoped to be sweet and sour sauce and not hot sauce. They only gave us one napkin, that our silverware was wrapped in and none extra at the table. We asked for more, along with just about everyone else around us. Our waitress brought us a small stack of napkins (the size of the napkins were smaller than the ones you would get at White Castle). When eating peel and eat shrimp and various other hand foods, they should have larger napkins, or have extra napkins already at the table. This would save the waitress an extra trip to every table to disperse napkins. As with several other reviewers over past years, they still have not changed their carpet. It is still dingy, stained and peeling back. Just nasty to look at and a sign of how sanitized and clean they keep their establishment. The salt shaker cap was rusty and if someone did want to use it, they couldn't, because it had was clogged with old dried salt. The straw that they give you for your drink is too short for their cups. You have to use your fingers to pull the straw up to drink out of every time you want a drink. I very seldom rate a restaurant with only one star, but this one definitely deserves it. The one star is for the friendly waitress and the decent price of $25 for 2 people to eat on a Saturday evening. Do not get carry out from this place. I was given a small styrofoam container that restaurants usually use for a order of fries. I questioned the young girl at the cash register and she said that was it. Almost $12? If you eat in it's unlimited. Nothing to put sauces in, so just didn't get any. No soup bowl. Terrible value. If they worry people get all chicken and fill their takeout then weigh it like most Chinese restaurants. What little food fit in the container was ok. Just got back from what was supposed to be a decent birthday dinner for my son. I remember this place being so much better a few years back. Tonight, I felt like I was in an episode of kitchen nightmares and Gordon Ramsey was going to yell, "shut it down!". It was utterly disgusting. I was really disappointed and then absolutely disgusted after biting into a rancid egg roll. In all, we ate half a plate of food and drank a few sips of our drinks and walked out. The bill, $65 for a family of four. I'm still kicking myself. I could have ordered take out from Chen Garden and had WAY better food, paid $30 less, and had friendlier service. We had decided to go away for Christmas 2018. And needed to head back home to Ohio. We had gone to mass and then googled places to eat on Christmas and we know people need and deserve to spend time with their families and were really fortunate to see this Chinese buffet open for business. The reviews were confusing as this is not our first Chinese buffet so not sure what the issue was. The parking lot was pretty full and many families were seated at tables. A buffet table with many salad options. A table of sushi and 2 with Asian dishes. Dont forget if you are really hungry that there are several dessert options and icecream Son found hibachi which is included in the price and they cooked what he requested. The staff was friendly and the food was good and the place friendly. We left a nice tip.. as these people want to celebrate with their families as well. I'm not sure why people are giving this place such poor reviews. They changed the price to $4.99 all you can eat all day. The other places in town charge that much for one item. There is still a huge selection of items and they were fresh, hot and tasty when I went today. I don't eat sushi but, I did see a large selection of items on the bar. The shrimp and seafood are my favorite and I thought they were all very good. And the real ice cream is delicious. If you have not been here yet, give them a try. I would definitely give Jumbo Buffet a no star if possible. The first few times I ate at Jumbo the food was adequate, however the service was a different story. As I went more and more I could really tell the food was losing value, and the more I went the more I told myself I wouldn't go back. What really set it off was the ice cream bar, half of the machines were broken and there was only one soft serve machine working, I got some in my cup and was about to begin eating it, right before I could get it to my mouth I smelt the stench of the sour and warm ice cream, I thought i wouldn't go back. Perhaps it was just an "off" night, but it was eerily empty (and quiet) for a "kids eat free" night. Not the worst Chinese you will eat. Found a roach at the buffet once but they gave us a 10% discount so I was willing to overlook the added crunch. If you go at the right time you might have less roaches, as they tend to come out more at night. Also I don't recommend eating the mussels there. They stress tips at the hibachi when your picking up your food. It was uncomfortable at the time. I was there in the middle of the afternoon on March 2, 2017. The food seemed fresh and well-maintained. I wish more rolls were out and that they were less dried out. You can't beat the ample amounts of good food for $4.99 and I do like to stop there when I am in LaGrange, but this time I didn't enjoy the loud music, which seemed to be for the entertainment of the staff rather than the customers. Much too loud, Black-oriented music. Not the quiet oriental music you might expect from a Chinese Restaurant. That was unpleasant. I was seated in a booth and warm air was being blown directly onto, and that was also a bit unpleasant.
