China 1 has changed a lot in the last 10 years. Pre COVID this place was awesome Nowadays it really just depends on the day. Staff is always very friendly, which is never take away from them. But the food is not ever really fresh, I feel like the produce being used is low quality as well. The inside looks horrible now but it didn't always used to be that way. This is Americanized Chinese. The Szechuan beef has no Szechuan pepper. The Hunan beef has no screaming hot chilis. However they are open to suggestions. I've eaten here a few times and I request extra spicy with less sugar. They are more than happy to oblige. They don't have one universal number ten can of Chinese gravy that they pour on everything. The extra spicy they don't quite get but the less sweet they can do. The egg rolls are well above average. The oil is clean and the rolls have some good roast pork. The Mongolian beef is also something I enjoy. Dining in your food is served on fiesta ware which is nice. However the utensils are single use plastic and when dealing with leftovers your getting a styrofoam clam shell. I know this doesn't sound like a 5 star review but for this style of Chinese they are very good. read more

So, we stopped in today for some Chinese food. It was my two children and me. We ordered around $25.00 worth of food and waited patiently for it. Like many people, we enjoy water with our food. When we eat out, we frequently request water with our meals. This has never been a problem anywhere else. When we request water, we are simply given cups for water. Everyone wins. The restaurant gets our money for the food, and we get delicious food with nice fresh water. Yippee. Some restaurants, will charge a nominal fee for the cups. This is sort of annoying, but doable. We just pay the $.20 or so for the cups, and again, we enjoy the water. That said, this isn't how this goofy AF restaurant operates. We requested water as usual and to our surprise and shock, we were told, "no water for you!!" Obviously, we were super bummed. We were told we would have to buy expensive and environmentally wasteful bottled water if we wanted water. This is a hole in the wall type establishment. For some reason I never knew it existed until running into a YELP review. Today I decided to seek it out for lunch to go. I drove to the area which I thought it must be at and found the China 1 sign on the front of the building but not lit like the rest of the businesses in the strip. I quickly studied the front of the building and found this business had completely covered their windows. Through the glass door I could see customers inside so I ventured in. The restaurant is clean and has a large lit board displaying the lunch specials. Nothing else was listed so I asked the girl at the cash register if I could get a small Hot & Sour soup to go. She replied yes. The total was $2.73 When I got home I opened the sealed bag to find a pint of Hot & Sour soup and a small bag of freshly fried soup noodles. The soup had the appropriate amount of tartness, heat from the spices, and all the goodies (Bamboo shoots, mushrooms, carrots, tofu, etc.) you would hope to find in Hot & Sour soup. It must have been extremely hot when served because it was still hot enough to enjoy after the fifteen minute commute home. I'll be back in the future to try some take out items for dinner. The Mongolian Beef was definitely my favorite with well cooked beef sautéed in peppers, white and green onions and a delightful black pepper flavor that overshadowed the onions and peppers in a good way. Both came with fried rice which was also well cooked and had a good taste. A plus for carry out is that the containers are BPA Free(#5) and can be used to reheat whatever is inside multiple times.
