I love this old-school family burger joint. They have burgers from regular size all the way up to like 2 pounds or 5 pounds or something crazy. They have affordable baked chicken, chicken livers, generous and delicious onion rings, and homemade chili on their large chili dogs. Their burgers are a little overcooked for my liking, but it's old-school and affordable and tasty. You can get a good Texas toast grilled cheese here too. Stopped by on the way back from a hike after seeing it on the side of the road. It's always a good sign when you see an old school looking place that's still standing. Glad we ate here! They have some big burgers (up to 1.5 lbs!!!) but I just settled for the Janie which is a quarter pound divided between two patties. It actually seemed more than a quarter pound, but delicious and more than enough for my appetite. Meat was seasoned and juicy, with just the right amount of onion. Crinkle fries are fluffy and crispy, too! Although it's set up like a drive in, you still have to go inside to order. Food is cooked fresh, so you do have to wait a bit. Currently have been waiting for 30 minutes for a single burger and fry, have been closely watching the employees and have realized that nobody in the kitchen are wearing gloves and is very clearly touching the food of others with their bare hands. I watched the blonde cashier lady try fixing the ice machine which was blocked up by a chunk of ice. (This happens which is fine) but the fact she lifted off the ice machine lid and put her bare hand inside to unclog the ice machine without putting any gloves on is absurd and disgusting. the fact that this place is open after all of the very clear health code violations is a miracle for those who work there read more

Jumbo House is an old drive-in five miles west off of Interstate 65. I ended up here by recommendation of one of my local customers, an astute man who has a fondness for hamburgers that rivals mine. My fellow burger-faring associate did not prepare me, however, for a menu that was so perplexing that it may as well have been written in Aurebesh. Here, burgers are described with esoteric terms like "Big Joes" and "Triple Johnnys." First-timers will want help from Alan Turing himself to decipher the madness. My order ended up being the Big Jack Cheeseburger ($7.89), an old-timey 3/4 pound greasy, err... I mean JUICY, hamburger topped with cheese, mayo, lettuce, a slice of tomato, pickles, and onions. They cook 'em like you tell 'em to. And, in my case, that means not cooking them much at all to achieve my desired "medium rare" level of doneness. Yep, and they didn't even bat an eye, they just did it! And they still managed to get some nice brown crust on it and delicious crispy little bits of dirty hamburgers past. I love you, Jumbo House! Jumbo House has a pressure-fryer (aka broaster) and serves fried chicken and catfish, though the only fried food I had from them during my visit were their crinkle-cut French Fries ($1.89) which were previously frozen and hence disappointing. This place is a local favorite that my wife took me to. She had been going here for years and loves their cheeseburgers. They have good food cooked fresh when you order I would have gave this place a 5 star but the only downside to this place is they also cook fried chicken, I've never ate it but I'm sure it's good. The problem is that if you eat inside then you need to be prepared for the overwhelming grease smell and the fact you're gonna smell like that the rest of the day. In 1989, we moved to Middle TN - Murfreesboro, to be exact. I worked in Spring Hill and occasionally drove past this restaurant. Over this time, I've driven past it dozens, if not hundreds of times and sometimes thought I should try it. The daughter of a famous NASCAR driver posted on her Facebook page about how great it was. Today, hungry from a day of sight seeing, I was looking forward to a quick snack. Surprising my adult son, I quickly pulled a U-turn on impulse and boy, and I glad I did. Usually, I discount the ratings of places that have great food because of how fancy the dining area is. My son convinced me to avoid that habit because the food is THAT good. On top of the menu is the "Big Joe With Fries" at $11.75. The prize and basic description scared me that it might be TOO big. I opted for the "Big Jack". It was the most wonderful mistake I've made. At 12 ounces for a single patty, the mistake was ordering a sandwich that was still to big. My son found a second menu that described the burgers. He skipped down to the "Johnny" because it was only 8 ounces. Since he did not hear my order, he failed to warn me. So after all that, the burger was great. No, I could not finish it. All meals are prepared to order, so it takes some time. The beef flavor was wonderful and there were great toppings. I have ALWAYS loved this place up until this past weekend. Placed order for pick up, 3 Johnny's and tater tots, could not wait to bite into the absolute best burger in Columbia for me, huge first bite, and was a little confused, meat tasted a little bit sour, thought maybe just an end of a soggy tomato might be the culprit because this was not normal for Jumbos labors of love. Long story short, ate half, it was the same with every bite, within a 30 minute period I had food poisoning so bad, I ended up in the hospital about 4 hours into it. Never and I mean never had food poisoning so bad, it felt like someone was twirling a dull chainsaw in my stomach, throw in the constant vomiting every five minutes literally for 16 hours straight and I was praying for death.
