They are really rude to the Door Dash Food Delivery workers. It's our duty to make sure the orders are correct and accurate, to prevent returns, bad ratings for both companies, etc. but they ALL give you attitude when you attempt to double check the order. I've worked in food service abs customer service for over twenty years; nothing about my interaction makes me want to eat there as a customer. Even a few costumers stated they could sense the rudeness. Jumbo House is such a staple in Columbia and I've heard nothing but good since moving here in 2015 but my experience as a third party delivery service that BRINGS IN REVENUE THAT WOULD'VE NORMALLY BEEN MISSED, I don't see the shining example they're known for. My family & I went on a Sunday after church. We ordered our food and sat down. 30 minutes later we had noticed a few other people that had gotten their food although they were in line after us. We were letting that pass until they carried out 2 trays full of food to a table outside that also arrived after we did. This was all we could take so we got our money back and left. It was 51 minutes between our receipt and refund receipt and we did not get an apology. We stopped going years ago because it smelled like rats and mice and had a roach problem. On Thursday July 10th, 2014....Today we stopped for a late lunch at 2pm at "The Jumbo House" in Columbia, TN..it's an old fashioned dairy queen style restaurant. Tony got a Johnny Burger with cheese and the works with onion rings and I ordered a Chili dog with mustard and onions..sharing his onion rings..Noel got her meal at Taco Bell down the road.. We ate outside at the picnic tables. The food was really good. The chili dog was really messy and the wiener was jumbo sized and deep fried...((( very good deep fried)) and the chili had beans in it and was really good. Tony said his Johnny Burger was really good. The bun was toasted and the sandwich was double patty with extra melty cheese..mayo, mustard, onions, tomato, lettuce and pickles..smelled awesome but my hot dog was so large..I couldn't even take a bite..but he said he would eat it again..it was a large burger.. Sure it's located next to a gas station; and yeah, the sanitation is somewhat questionable; and yes, they prefer the darkside of regional carbonated beverages (Pepsi), but I'm willing to look past all of those things because these greasy burgers are amazing. Their flagship item seems to be "broasted" chicken - at least, that's what all the signs say. But I have no idea what in the Sam Hill "broasted" means, so I stick to the classic cheeseburger. Topped with American (or any cheese of your choice), they plop these bad boys on the grill top and they come off hot, greasy, and delicious. Also, they have bomb-ass curly fries to boot. If that doesn't work for you, they also offer crinkle cut fries and onion rings, all of which are tasty. Milkshakes are also available, as are jalapeno hushpuppies, and foot long chili dogs. After moving out here from the Chicago area we have been having a hard time finding a good greasy spoon burger joint, but dang this place sure nailed it! Best burger I've had from Lawrenceburg to Brentwood! The only downfall is they are quite over priced, it cost $42 for 2 adults and 2 children under ten for one meal. The young girls running this place need to get their shit together. My gf and I sat in the car for 40 minutes only to find out one of the girls threw away our food ticket and our food was never made. This same girl kept going missing all throughout our time parked outside. Where are you even going? "I'm so sorry" doesn't cut it. My gf just got off of a 10 hour workday and we were extremely hungry and you ruined our night. It is just good. Burgers are consistently the same. You decide how many meat patties you want. Everything made fresh, worth the wait. We LOVE their broasted chicken dinner with slaw and broasted potatoes. All breast meat, plumb and broasted to perfection. Always have leftovers for dinner the next night or two. I also love their fried chicken salad (without pickles...who ever heard of pickles on a salad!?). Simple iceberg lettuce mixture loaded with fresh crumbled bacon, shredded cheese, tomatoes, onion and chicken tenders. I suggest one of their ice cream cones while you are waiting for your dinner. My husband and I went to Jumbo House Sunday night, arriving at 6:50pm. I had never been there before. My husband had eaten there a couple of times at lunchtime. He really liked it. I ordered a Jumbo Cheeseburger and a shake - my husband ordered a hamburger steak and a shake. He said the girl taking our order turned to the cook behind her and told her "hamburger steak" and the blonde cook said, okay, I will start it. We got the shakes in no time. But at 7:15pm (25 min) when we still didn't have our food (and others around us were getting theirs), my husband asked a waitress and she just said - I'm sure it won't be long. After 5 more min (7:20), Bob went to the counter and asked about our order. They said it was on the grill and wouldn't be long. After 10 more min (7:30), we walked to the counter and my husband asked for our money back. There were 4 girls behind the counter, and 2 back in the kitchen. They all said, oh, it won't be long. It's almost ready. Finally, one admitted she had given our food to someone else. They didn't want to give us our money back - wanted us to wait to get our food to go. I grew up eating here. It is still my favorite burger to date! My usual order is a Johnny burger and large fry. It's a big double cheeseburger. They do have a smaller version called a Janie burger that's still pretty big! You can call it in to go or dine in. If you're going here definitely get a burger. Their broasted chicken is a close second. A broasted chicken "meal" comes with broasted potato (basically huge French fries) and bread! You can specify which part of the bird you want, I recommend the breast. The only thing I've ever had from here that I didn't like was a salad. Too large really because most people come here for 2 things, the burgers and the broasted fried chicken. A very good fried chicken and a departure from the typical chain fried chicken. The sides most notably the fries are very ordinary. They do have ice cream and shakes which are good. The drinks are self serve and the sweet tea is decent. You could be picky I suppose and think of the place as a bit dumpy. It's an old drive in and has not been renovated much. It could use some updating and a coat of paint. Some think of it as nostalgic because it reminds them of a more simple time. The people who work there are as nice and friendly and sweet as any you will ever encounter. They are like that to everybody not just regulars. This has been a favorite for years . We drive 30 minutes to eat here . Unfortunately , it is now run by completely different people and must have sold. Had to wait for 25 minutes for our order . The WORST THING was that the burgers now taste completely different . They were one of the few places that grill your bun. That has changed . Now they steam the bun and it makes it soggy and has ruined the flavor of the burgers. Plus , the more you order , the more they charge you . 6 of the little corn dogs is $1.75.
