Hayley, the late evening bartender this time, is one of the hardest working bartenders I've run across anywhere. A lot of my friends are service staff, many of them bartenders. So I know what it takes to do well in that. It's not easy. There is a lot of subtlety to keeping a bunch of people calm and content when they're drinking. She was serving the whole room, not just from behind the counter. She took the time out to (re)teach me play pool, something I've not done for decades. Then she checked back periodically to make sure I was interacting with other people and having a good time. A lot of the people she seemed to already know, but she was tending to each in a way that seemed appropriate to them. I was really impressed, and in fact extended my stay in the area by a day because I was having such a good time and wanted to come back the following night. And the food is decent (for a bar). The kitchen isn't available quite as late as the bar, which stays open surprisingly late. They have many options to choose from on tap. They have Darts inside and a couch you'd find down in your friends basement that he found on a tree bank trash day, but that simply adds to the dive bar charm. We stayed for one drink and the burger as we were exhausted from a red eye flight the night before.
