I've been a member at jumpstart since April 2024. I have been really disappointed in the staff especially with the health coaches. I am paying a lot of money and the health coaches are rude, a lot of drama, and petty. The PAs have gone thru a lot of turnover but overall I try to meet with them vs the health coaches Rebekah and Susan. I found out from an office staff member that Susan was talking about me. As a member paying a lot of money each month, I don't appreciate that and I think it's extremely unprofessional. I've been through Jumpstarts program twice! The first time I started in the Summer of 2020 and ended up losing about 15 pounds. I stopped the program for about a year because I had a successful fertility treatment and had a baby. Once I felt ready to come back, I returned in July of 2021 to restart the program. My second time on the program I lost 30 lbs. The staff that I saw on a regular basis is Melissa, Maureen and Priscilla. I want to start off by saying they are wonderful individuals. They have always been very kind and considerate towards me. Often times I didn't have anyone to watch my infant son and they were very understanding towards me and allowed me to bring him into the office for my appointments. Some things to consider: 1) The hours. They are only open a few days a week with limited hours so you have to be really flexible with your hours to get an appointment. Luckily once you get a certain you are often able to keep that same time slot for awhile, but it doesn't always happen that way. 2) Communication. A) There have been times where I have had something come up with work or had a family emergency so I had to cancel my appointment. Even calling days before and leaving a message, asking for a call back and I don't receive one. 3) Processing Monthly Payments- This is supposed to be automatic and it never is. Every single month I literally had to chase someone down to make sure my payment is taken care of. Especially for how much I was paying for the "VIP" membership, you would think they'd have a streamlined system for those automatic payments. I was always told "it's our new system" but for how long can you blame the new system. The do switch their systems quite a bit too, which is a problem more on their IT side and not the office itself. Overall, I enjoyed my time at JumpStartMD. I wish there was a tele-health option for people who move out of the area. They said it's something they are hoping to get into. Excellent program. Medical and scientific based weight loss program with monitoring, including blood work every 3 months, to determine effectiveness of the diet prescribed for each individual. No pushy selling of products. Copious amount of information and guides, as well as current shopping list with specific items at various local grocery stores, to help easily keep diet on track. Recipes to back it up. Lost a little more than 18 pounds in 6 months and feel at least 15 years younger. Went from waist size 35 inches to less than 30 inches. Had to order 29 inch jeans because 30 inches was loose. Last time I wore size 29 in my late 20s. When I first started the program, the clinician who was there, Christy, was amazing and very supportive in my wight loss journey. Christy has since left and has been replaced with a judgy, condescending, and narrow minded clinician named Katrina. This clinician feels that since she can wear a white coat that says JumpStartMD on it, that she can give pediatric advice as well as parenting tips. The last session I went to was highly unprofessional as she felt the need to grill me on my parenting choices (if you're a parent you know that you're always doing the best you can do; and that's all that you can really expect out of yourself). In retrospect I just laugh at how stupid she sounded because this is obviously a woman talking like she has a toddler of her own -- to which she doesn't. Isn't always the people who don't have kids or never experienced what it's like to be a parent have the "best" advice to hand out? I emailed their customer support and was told sorry for the inconvenience and that I could switch clinics. Let's be real... It's not inconvenient, it was unprofessional and inappropriate. So no thanks, I'm not going to inconvenience myself so that their bigoted clinician can keep doing what she's doing. I've asked to get reimbursed for my remaining sessions and to close my account after that. I'm sure you can get a better experience at another clinic, just not at this one. And if you must know, I was grilled because I let my daughter choose what she wants to eat for dinner, which usually results in rice. *gasp* I know! What a horrible choice! I'm such a horrible mom! **UPDATE: I received an email from a director asking me to talk with her in regards to what happened. It seemed like they were doing damage control however it was all superficial. I had to cancel the initial appointment however when I called back the next day, my call was never answered and even though I left a voicemail, she hasn't called me back. When I wrote to her a week later stating that I've left a voicemail she didn't seem interested or concerned -- flippant would be the word. I guess that clinician is still working there, and I bet she only got a slap on her hand, if anything at all. I can't even imagine supporting a company that hires people who are so unprofessional, condescending and judgmental. What Katrina did was unconscionable and the fact that she doesn't think she did anything wrong is scary since JumpStart thinks it's okay to employ such people. read more

If you're reading this review that means you've been dealing with weight problems for too long. I definitely have been fluctuating so long, have tried every fad diet imaginable, every book, etc. Some, admittedly were temporarily successful but unfortunately the results did not last long. And when weight would come back it returned tenfold. My friends recommended this program. I was referred to jumpstartmd by my endocrinologist because I have been struggling with my weight for many years due to an immune system disorder that I've had half my life. I was skeptical when I first signed up because I didn't want to feel judged. I've tried many diets, meal plans, fasts, challenges, etc and was afraid this would just be another gimmick to lose weight and then gain back. But what I've learned over the year is that jumpstart is a lifestyle change and the coaches are there to encourage you and motivate not judge. I'm only half way to my goal weight but I have not gained back the pounds I've lost despite going off plan more than I should. I've learned a new way to eat well and a better understanding how my body works. Jumpstartmd will formulate a plan that is specific to you. Not generalized but specific to you and your lifestyle. They do monthly body scans to analyze where the weight loss is actually coming from. They provide you with meal plan samples and meal trackers. I enjoy coming to the Pleasanton location. They recently moved offices to a bigger and brighter space. Melissa at the front desk is the sweetest! She is easy to talk to and greets each person that walks through the door with a smile. This is an update to my five star review. I've continued to eat per the plan and exercise regularly, but my weight and percent fat continue to creep up. I had lost about 30 pounds, but I've gained back 15 pounds and my % fat is almost back to the level it was when I started the program. I'm not sure what was in the weekly shots. I lost weight when I was getting shoots weekly and kept if off ok on the maintenance program (monthly), but I haven't been able to keep the weight off without them. read more

This started off as a great weight loss center. However, i stopped feeling supported when 100% of their staffed turned over 2-3 times. It became highly frustrating, there was no consistency in my visits or with counsellors. I had to constantly recap my journey and the program lost its effectiveness. Each clinician told me they were not going anywhere when I started to question the 3rd clinician about the turnover. She assured me she was here to stay. Met the 4th clinician and she said the same thing. (Can't believe it!) What is going on with this center? I'm very concerned about how it is being run. This is a great program! I've tried everything under the moon to try and loose weight and this has been the 1st program that has worked for my husband and I. I've lost 35 lbs and my husband has lost 64lbs and have been able to maintain the weight loss. This program really helps you change your eating habits and start a new lifestyle. I've spent the past few years working out consistently and eating clean, but was unable to lose my excess weight. In the spring of 2013 went to JumpstartMD with the hopes that they'd be able to identify what I was doing wrong. Jumpstart MD charges $249.00 just for visit number 1 which includes an EKG test, weigh in, ingection of Methionine Inositol Choline which is supposed to help metabolize fat, 30 day supply multivitamin, ordering of a full metabolic panel bloodwork, a program guide, food tracker book, and supply of 1 weeks appetite suppressants. The first visit is really the only helpful visit, just to receive the supplies. They then charge $388.00 for the rest of the month and every month after that. These are 1 x week visits which just include the complimentary injection and another 1 week supply of appetite suppressants. To be honest, you're basically paying $400/month for a butt injection that does nothing and appetite suppressants that just give you BAD insomnia in the middle of the night. My advice, just go to the first visit and get the tools. This is just a low carb diet, including 100g of protein and 60g at the max of carbs. They say they'll send in paperwork to get insurance reimbursement and then they say it can take about 6 months to hear back, so don't count on that. You only meet with the "doctor" on visit 1 and then after that, just with some girls that ask you how you've been doing, but they never help you with food prepping or your energy level or important things like that. read more

I then returned the call one day later within normal business hours which according to their voicemail, should have been returned the same day. I started Jumpstart after being sick of being overweight. I talked to my doctor who recommended that I start Jumpstart as it was a program that he felt made sense and wasn't a fad diet. I have lost 35 pounds and been able to maintain it. The staff is always so friendly and helpful. You don't feel like you are being rushed - they take the time to find out what is going on in your life to see why you might be having a difficult week. The Pleasanton staff are awesome. Paula Jeha has truly become a friend, she is so positive and easy to talk to. When leaving I always feel motivated to have a better week. I am into my second week on this program through the Pleasanton location. I found the staff to be pleasant and attentive. I have elected not to use the appetite suppressants, so the first 3 days were a bit of a challenge, but come on.......if I want to see results, I have to change up what and how I eat. The concepts of this program are simple (low-carb, 5 small meals, drink your water, abstain from alcohol), but it's not easy. You do not meet with or interact with a medical doctor at any point; nor is the diet customized in any way. When I had first called and inquired about the program I spoke with a women who said that this was not a no-carb weight loss program but after my second visit I learned that they want you to go no-carbs for at least two years (actually they say you can eat carbs as long as it's a vegetable). What! That's the same as every other no-carb diet I have tired. That's what they tell everyone. How is that customized? If you have never done a no-carb diet before this may work for you but I knew going into it that no-carb is not what I wanted. I have been on many diets, haven't we all and I can not say enough about how I love Jumpstart, Pleasanton. The decision to do something was the blood test that said I was close to diabetes. Belly Fat is the hardest to loose. The staff, the program is why this works. I have now passed the 25 pound mark and am on my way to surpassing my goal. Another 5 more pounds. No more belly fat, in a size 2 pair of jeans,, Can't believe how easy it was. I love this place. It works. It's easy. It is a lifestyle change, but for the good. I feel great, better than ever and the best is now I am off all my blood pressure, cholesterol meds and no signs of diabetes or heart disease. That is the best reward. read more

I have never written a Yelp review before. However, my experience today with JumpStart MD was so bothersome, I felt I had a duty to advise other potential consumers the way in which they treat their clients. Let me back up though. When I first started a few weeks ago, the staff in Pleasanton was very nice and helpful. It was my experience today, via a phone call to the Walnut Creek office, that has me in an uproar. I received my vitamin and B 12 shot yesterday in the Pleasanton office. I woke up this morning feeling very sore in my joints and my skin feeling very warm, with a sensation of pins and needles. I looked at my skin and noticed a blotchy rash all over me. I felt it could be related to the vitamin shot, maybe niacin, but was not sure. I called the office (Pleasanton office was closed, so I was routed to another one, I think Walnut Creek). Amy took my call and was very polite. I explained all my symptoms to her. Amy said a clinician would call me right back after her client was gone. I never received a call back. After I took two Benadryl, with little to no relief, I called Amy again (this was over an hour after my first call). She said the clinician would call me back in 5 minutes. In less than 5 minutes, Amy called me back. She was very apologetic, but said the clinician (I will not say her name, but shame on her) was too busy to talk to me. She advised me the clinician said if I was that concerned, I should see my primary care doctor. She referred me to the handbook to look at to see what ingredients were contained in the vitamin shot. I told Amy I was not upset at her, but that I was fuming. I told Amy she (the clinician) is trying to pass the buck and not only is this inappropriate, it has some ethical ramifications as well. I advised Amy I would like to cancel my membership effective immediately. My husband is also a member and he, too, is less than satisfied with this program. For the amount of money we pay and the fact they advertise their services as being medically supervised, I would have, at a minimum, expected the clinician to call me back. OK, the diet works. BUT, it's just a high protein/low carb diet. I did this for I think 2 months and have had just as much success not going in as I did going in, still following the 'diet' they gave me originally. The FIRST visit is good; you get a good rundown on everything, and get your numbers, etc. Every other visit is basically a waste of time, you don't learn anything new, etc. It's just a weigh in and how are you doing - and THAT is not worth the cost. This is about 8 x more expensive than weight watchers, and like I said, you can figure out how to do a low carb diet online for free. The only useful visit is the first visit. I kept having my follow ups with someone who was 'new', and as such, I do not feel that I got even my simplest questions asked. For 400 a month, I expect to at least see the doctor around the office, I expect that my questions will be answered, and I expect new information every week. The tracker they give you is silly. You mark off boxes - for example, for 10 grams of protein, you tick off a box. Yes, that's fine and simple, but if you have a week where you don't lose weight, you have not tracked your actual food, so there is no way they can give you feedback. I am now just doing the plan they gave me on visit 1, and tracking all my food on 'myfitnesspal'. I'm losing consistently. I wouldn't spend my money here; just go on the first visit if anything. read more

This program works!!!! I've tried a lot of diets, work outs, everything. I heard about Jumpstart through a friend of mine that lost 50lbs for her wedding and I just had a baby. After I was done breastfeeding I wanted to get the weight off ASAP. It took me 1 year to get it off the first time and I wanted to get back to my normal weight faster the 2nd time. I lost 25 lbs in 4 months. It wasnt hard to follow the program and you eat real food. The staff was super friendly and answer any questions you have. Everyone noticed right away that I lost weight and I didnt even workout. I will now start to work out to tone up but I used to do Instanity work outs and not loose a single lb. I consistenly lost around 2lbs per week and was able to do this program through the holidays, which normally I would have probably gained instead of lost weight. I would totally recommend Jumpstart. It is kinda expensive but well worth it if you can afford it. I was very lucky to win a raffle contest and had a couple months free and I am so lucky and grateful for that. I have loved this program! I had gotten to the point where I felt terrible about my weight and myself; I had lost confidence and self respect. I didn't know if I could ever get a decent figure back. I had never been overweight, having just turned 50 I didn't think it was possible to get down to my high school weight again. Years ago, I had tried Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers, both helped temporarily while I was on the program, but this is the first time understand how to keep the weight off permanently. It's been 8 months, and I am down 30 pounds, into size 4 and 6's again, and feel great. I eat very well, see lean muscle mass on my arms, torso and legs. This is verified through the body scans which show the total body fat loss (10% over 8 months). I have felt the staff in both the Walnut Creek office and Pleasanton sites have been extraordinarily accommodating and all knowledgeable, from the Nurse Practitioner who gives great advice and practical solutions, to the dietitians and MD. I have truly benefitted by each person I have worked with. I can't put a price tag on how much better I feel and have recommended the program to two other friends who also have had great success. read more
