This review is long overdue, but Yelp deleted my previous draft so this took longer than I wanted…read moreto post. I had a going away gift for a Cub Scout pack member that needed to be done at the last minute. I searched Oahu for engraving shops and came upon Engraving Hawaii. Previously I had passed by it a couple times while walking around the Schofield Exchange, but never looked in before. I walked in and there were two customers in front of me. Nick was helping other customers and told me he would assist me as soon as he could. When it was my turn, I explained what I needed and when I needed it, but Nick explained they had an influx of rush jobs that needed to be completed. He let me know that it was unlikely to be finished by the requested date, and I was ok with it, because I tend to follow the saying, "Poor planning on your part does not necessitate an emergency on mine." That evening, I receive a text message from the shop requesting I proof-read and approve the layout. They got the layout exactly how I requested and I quickly replied it was perfect. I was afraid to think that it might get finished in time, but their quick draft gave me a glimmer of hope that it would be ready in time. The next day I got a message telling me the item was ready. I rushed over to the shop and sure enough it was completed and looked fantastic. Because of Engraving Hawaii, we were able to present the award at the banquet for the departing member! I was so impressed with the friendly and professional service. The team is really customer-focused, and based on what I was hearing from their interactions with the other customers they were going to try everything in their power to get requests just right. Cheers, Nick!

This family owned business creates authentic handmade Hawaiian wood carvings that are rooted in cultural tradition and generations of skill. Every piece is carved by hand with precision and creativity, whether it is a surfboard, bowl, turtle, wave, or a fully customized design. Their work stands apart from mass produced tourist merchandise. It is real Hawaiian craftsmanship created by a family that takes pride in preserving their heritage. This business specializes in authentic hand carved Hawaiian souvenirs including Tiki's, surfboards, bowls, paddles, fishhooks, war clubs, crosses, plaques, weapons, hearts, and nearly anything you can imagine made from wood. If you can think of it, they can carve it. They are just a phone call or message away for custom orders, and their Facebook page "V Knack" provides updates and ordering options for anyone wanting a personalized carving. Established in 1995, this business represents an unbroken family tradition that began with their great grandfather. Four generations later, the art is still alive and thriving. The family learned carving from their father and grandfather, and it has become a natural part of who they are. There are five boys and three girls in the family, and all of the boys learned to carve. Keeping this tradition alive is a matter of pride, heritage, and love for the craft. The business is owned and operated by Valu Nika and his wife Nika, who hand carve custom pieces with care and passion. Their work includes everything from Tiki's and turtles to surfboards and fishhooks. They carve with heart and continue to represent the meaning of true Hawaiian craftsmanship. You can visit them at the Aloha Stadium Swap Meet, and their booth location occasionally moves, so following their Facebook page "V Knack" is the best way to stay updated and to place custom orders. If you want something authentic, handmade, and meaningful, this family and their carvings represent one of the most traditional and artistic experiences you will find on Oahu. Their work reflects the spirit of Hawaii and the pride of a family that has dedicated generations to keeping this art alive.
