I was in downtown courthouse serving jury duty. After sitting many hours in the Jury room waiting to be called. We finally got one hour lunch break. To stretch my legs, I walked couple blocks to Junmai station to get a quick bite. I like onigiri. By the time I got there, they only had couple flavors left. I picked the teriyaki glaze spam and the salted baked salmon. They were both very good. The spam was panfried, a slice of egg was between rice ball and spam and the glaze was sweet. I liked the salmon bit in the rice ball. The rice got good texture. The flavor was balance. The room temperature rice balls tasted just right, no need to be microwave heat up. The place is quite small with a lot of customers waiting for their food. They got quite busy during the lunch hour. This was a great find to enjoy lunch while attending an event at the nearby convention center. Junmai Station has a bit of an unassuming presence but their food and friendly service certainly made a positive impact. We went around 12:45 pm and unfortunately, nearly all of the onigiri were sold out, so definitely worth it to go earlier. We were fortunate to enjoy the salted salmon onigiri which had a good texture on the rice and well-seasoned salmon, with the only wish being that the seaweed wrap was sturdier. We also tried their gyu-don and ahi tuna-don. The gyu-don had the right level of seasoning for our palates, with a good amount of beef and onions in the bowl. The spicy tuna don was also excellent, with sliced, buttery avocado. The miso soup that came with the rice bowls also tasted fresh and properly seasoned. Overall, it was a great visit to Junmai Station and the main recommendation is to get there early to get the chance to try their other onigiri options in addition to their rice bowls. read more

Authentic musubi place in downtown Tampa? Yes please! While their musubi is authentic and delicious, I thought the price is bit too expensive. On the other hand, the combo meals are reasonable. They come with a delicious miso soup. I loved their Gyudon (very authentic) but could have used a little more sauce (I am used to Yoshinoya). Unfortunately I did not like their curry dish, as it looked more red than authentic Japanese curry and tasted like ketchup was in it. It had nice kick tho. The service was bit standoffish.....I didn't really like the vibe of this place. Not so welcoming and the workers seem unhappy as well. Anyways overall a delicious & authentic Japanese dishes good for takeout. Go there early! Most of musubis are out by 2pm. read more

Delicious! Decided to pick up some chicken curry and a teriyaki spam rice "ball" for lunch and was amazingly surprised! I lived in Japan for 4 years and real authentic (un-americanized) Japanese food is hard to come by here in the U.S.. I am so glad I took a chance and came here! The place is small and little room to eat in-store, but they do have some outside tables. The menu is small, but the food is delicious and I saw many people ordering from here! It's such a cute little restaurant! We walked in after craving some onigiri. There's a rule of only buying 4. That was fine with us as there were only 4 flavors left. We really enjoyed all of our meals. The bowls all came with miso soup! We also ordered edamame, the mochi from japan, and the cheesecake bun! Also very delicious. I loved getting lunch here! I got to try their beef curry and Gyudon with plum onigiri. The entrees came with a soup that was made with real miso and tofu. You can taste the authenticity as well as that home-cooked taste like a friend or family member cooked for you. Can't believe we didn't know about this place even though we've been passing by the area frequently. It's a tiny place so most people were taking food to go. A lot of their stuffed rice balls were selling out quick so I'd recommend going there earlier than later if you want to try those. We were able to grab a variety of em (only 1 was sold out, and we were there at around noon). The salmon one and the spam one were my fav! One of the best finds of the year ! I have been trying to find an onigiri place since moving from nyc and Tampa was finally blessed with one right on Kennedy. Make sure you drive up Kennedy you won't be able to miss it! It's a small store front but the options of onigiri pack a punch. If you don't know what onigiri is it is a rice ball filled with meat (they have vegetarian sour plum and rainbow, chicken meatball, teriyaki glazed salmon, tuna Mayo, miso hamburger, beef, shrimp tempura kani salad, baked salmon ) oh the options and they even have mochi and other traditional lunch options including don buri bowls soup and seaweed salad! They can make them for you if they run out! Which they do because I'm yum?! The owner is very nice and super helpful with explaining the options. I would highly recommend and I totally will be back to this one of a kind place in Tampa. Probably one of my favorite finds this year! read more

Small little spot was incredible! I did not know what to expect from this place. I got the salmon bowl and I tried uncooked salmon for the first time. It was delish!!! My friend got the teriyaki chicken bowl, and she even mentioned that she will be back to try the other bowls. They were really quick for it being lunchtime in downtown Tampa. Junmai Station is a good place for a quality lunch. I have visited a couple of times the last two weeks and had good experiences. On my first visit I tried the Takoyaki and Japanese Beef Curry. I love Takoyaki but I did not like this version. The balls were overly slimy with minimal Octopus. I would skip this appetizer. However, I did like the Beef Curry which was filled with tender beef swimming in flavorful curry and paired with savory rice. On my second visit I had the Gyudon which was tender marinated beef with sweet onion and rice that nicely soaked up the marinade. Cute little place in downtown Tampa to grab a quick bite. I ordered the Shake and the beef curry bowl. The rice bowl came with miso soup. The food was ready within a few minutes (I'm assuming the beef curry is kept in a slow cooker in the back) and packaged well for taking home. I was given two napkins and a fork and spoon (no chopsticks, not sure why I wasn't offered). The Shake was very good. The salmon was nicely seasoned, as was the rice. They use the same fancy plastic wrapping that Noble Market uses/used to keep the seaweed crisp until you are ready to eat. Follow the numbered pulls to extricate the seaweed. The bowl was okay. It was heavy on the rice and curry sauce, light on the beef. They included pickles with it, and I found the pickles a little sweeter than I'd like (I like the really sour Japanese pickles or pickled ginger when I eat Japanese curry). No veggies with the bowl, and only the faintest traces of onion in the curry. I would have liked some potato or carrot. The proprietor said that they are working on new items including a chicken teriyaki burger in a rice bun. If it's anything like the rice bun snacks I've had in Asia, I'm intrigued. The location is on Kennedy at Florida. There's street parking, although you'll have to cross the street to get to the nearest pay machine. read more

There is not much to go off of. I think the poke bowls are too expensive for the little amount they offer. My salmon bowl had rice, salmon, and some onion, and a slice of avocado. The salmon was extremely delicious, soft, and fresh. They gave a side of miso soup with it, which was nice. However, the seaweed in the miso must have been sitting there for a while. There is four chairs to sit outside and two chairs, along with a bench inside. The place itself is very small. The worker was nice and friendly. Not much else to add. read more

A few classic Japanese dishes done exceedingly well. The rice in the onigiri (tuna mayo) as well as the accompaniment to my beef curry was the perfect texture--"bouncy". Nice tender chunks of beef in the curry as well. The onigiri is kept in a nice refrigerated display case, so you may want to let it warm to room temperature beforehand. Or, if it's packed to go with your entree, it should be perfect by the time you enjoy it. Clean and well-kept-up little place! There are three counter stools inside and a few tables outside as well.
