Keep Sushi is one of my go-to spots. The menu is outstanding, with a great variety of specialty rolls and other options, and their sushi specials, especially at lunch, are a great deal anytime. Food quality is consistent here. Service has always been excellent every time I've come here, which really keeps me coming back. It's a smaller space with lots of to-go orders, but the wait is usually not too long. I just wish they had a bigger, nicer outdoor seating area given how popular they are. BEWARE!!!! Used to love this restaurant as a Tampa local - went with some friend this past weekend and noticed our credit card statements were more than what we paid. Turns out they changed our bill to a 35% tip instead of the 15% tip we left. When we called they didn't even apologize, said they would "look into it" and we would have to wait a couple weeks. Storm chaser roll is the staff favorite for a reason it was mind blowing!!!!!! All I needed was one bite of this roll and I knew I'd be back. The presentation of the nigiri plate was beautiful and I enjoyed all the options that came with it. There are so many other rolls I'm interested in trying too. Kelp was a very interesting experience for me. After hearing amazing reviews my friend and I decided to give it a try. We sat outside and waited 15 minutes for water. We came during lunch on a weekday so the place was not busy at all. It took the waiter another 20 minutes to come take our order. Once receiving our food I overall was just not extremely impressed. Came here on Sunday for brunch. Place is very small and doesn't have many seatings. It is small and not an upscale, but clean and pleasant. They do have outdoor seating but it's not very pleasant because it's kind of in the middle of the parking lot. Service was attentive and friendly. The menu is large, unique and presented very well. It has pictures and descriptions. Very easy to follow. I had some nigiri and husband had sushi rolls. We also had soup and edamame. Food was pretty decent, not amazing but solid. RATS! RATS! RATS!!!! My mom and I went in today for lunch and midway through the meal, I saw an 9-12 inch rat scurry across the dining room floor. I freaked out and told the staff and they blamed it on the back door being open. They made no effort to reduce our check or any accommodation. My mom was quckily brought the check and told "I will check you out." The waiter did say that there was no need for a tip. I am going to report this restaurant to the health department. The burger sushi is very flavorful. I like the mixed in veggies and sauce. The raw fish also fresh and bouncy. The two classic rolls lunch specials I have are the spicy tuna and Nagihama - cucumber and tempura onion. The fish also fresh and good amount. I enjoyed my lunch at the other location, so I was excited to try this location when I was in the area. The only negative is the parking, because they share a parking lot with many stores, and it was very crowded at lunch time. It was surprisingly small inside, with no sushi bar to eat at, just about 8-10 tables. My sever was very friendly and helpful, and I decided to go with the lunch special called Tokyo Combo, which is a choice of two classic rolls with soup or salad. I've had the salad before and I loved their ginger dressing. The salad came out promptly and was just as good as I remembered, followed shortly after with the two rolls. The rolls I ordered were the Negihama with hamachi, cucumber, and tempura onion and Spicy Salmon with spicy salmon, cucumber, and tempura flakes. My server had recommended the salmon one, and was kind enough to bring me two sauces she loved on the side, because she felt they enhanced the flavor, which they definitely did. I've had KĒLP Sushi Joint on my list for a while and finally stopped in to check them out. They've got two Tampa locations and we hit the South Tampa spot. We were seated right away and the staff were super friendly, and made some very tasty recommendations. The menu is packed with creative rolls, crispy rice bites, and sake based cocktails. The crispy rice was a must and we also grabbed a few rolls, and everything tasted super fresh and the flavors and textures were all on point. I was in a beer mood, so I grabbed my go to Japanese Lager a Kirin Ichiban. It was crisp, malty, and refreshing, pairing perfectly with our sushi. There's still a ton on the menu I want to try, so this definitely won't be my last visit. Found this place online and enjoyed that they showed gluten free and gluten free modifications on their menu. Went there for lunch with my partner. The kitchen prep area takes up half the restaurant. So the seated area is narrow. There's also one unisex bathroom. We both ordered miso soup to start and water. KELP Sushi Joint is a sushi staple in Tampa. I was recommended this place by many friends and am so glad that I finally tried it! They offer a wide variety of specialty rolls in addition to the classic rolls (e.g., spicy tuna, California roll). Though we tried multiple specialty rolls, the spicy tuna is still my personal favorite. The rose cave specialty roll is also delicious. I also highly recommend the fruit iced mint tea; this is a housemade beverage with a hearty servings of berries balanced by the refreshing mint tea. The only issue with the tea is that it's extremely sweet--I recommend diluting with some water. Definitely check out this place during happy hour which is daily from 3-7 PM. You get a second specialty roll for $8 and a second classic roll for $3. Such an awesome deal. AND the service is exceptional. Definitely the best servers in all of Tampa. We visited Kelp Sushi Joint for Happy Hour on a Saturday around 3:00. I had no idea this place had happy hour everyday but I was pleasantly surprised. I had a serious sushi craving and this did the trick. We ordered two snacks, for happy hour, you pay regular price for one and the second is $2. The Krab Rangoon was sweet which was nice but I don't even think it had any Krab with a K I it. Still tasted good but I will probably skip next time. The Gyoza was good, but I think Costco killed Gyoza with bulk bags of decent stuff for $12. On to the rolls, we ordered two specialty rolls, the happy hour deal for specialty rolls is buy one at regular price and get the second one for $8. The rolls we got were both $19.95 so a great deal. The rolls were both really fresh and flavorful. We got Eight Wonders and Scarlet Witch. I would highly recommend both but I liked Scarlet Witch best. The restaurant is tiny, there are not many tables but the service is great and they are fast. I'm definitely putting Kelp in the sushi rotation. read more
