The live jazz is really what sets this place apart from the other pool halls, starting around 7 pm with what seems like maybe the house band and I think they have guests later in the night. It's the perfect atmosphere, fun lighting, lots of grungy writing on the walls, good indie music from the 2010s before the jazz starts. Plus the spacing of the tables is good so you're not constantly bumping into other players, which is a pet peeve of mine. Actually the bartender came up and said they were out, would I want a 18 year or 20 year, something like that. it was a bit more money but it was he last beverage of the weekend trip so I got it. My Lourd it was good. If we had time I would have gotten an Oban they had, but we were off. But we will be back, maybe this year. Then came the heavyweight champion: the A5 Miyazaki Wagyu Sando. Thick-cut Wagyu, toasted milk bread, 2-year aged cheddar, katsu sauce, and house-made pickles. Rich, buttery, decadent and literally melting in my mouth. The tart pickles were working overtime like the defensive line trying to stop all that Wagyu fat. Washed it down with the refreshing Yuzu Mugirita--shochu, yuzu, shiso and plum salt--and finished upstairs with their insanely thick and creamy Hokkaido Milk Soft Serve. Listen... this isn't ice cream. This is dairy operating at a higher level. Then it was time to head downstairs to Sip, a dark, intimate lounge inspired by a Japanese naval ship where the cocktails get seriously creative. Duplex gets better the more you open yourself to the social happenings around you. Share a drink, take some shots, sing a song in front of strangers.
