let me begin by stating that if it would've been possible to give this company zero stars i would've done so. since that's not possible i will relate my negative experience. i took a unit in to be diagnosed for repair and to receive an estimate as to how much it would cost to repair this unit. the fee for the estimate which was paid upfront was $60.00. approximately 5 weeks later i received a phone call letting me know that they had no idea as to where to obtain the necessary part to fix this unit so what that means is that the estimate that the $60 was paid for was never given. it was not my fault as the customer that this so called vintage audio repair shop is lacking resources as to where to obtain parts. when i picked the unit up i asked for my money back since services were not rendered that were agreed upon which would have been the promised and paid for estimate. it's my opinion that this is a completely unethical business practice and does much to ruin their reputation. what ever happened to the days when it was important for the customer to be treated fairly and be satisfied??? it's more than obvious that just audio is more concerned with $60.00 than treating me fairly and offering a resolution to this issue. if you are thinking about going to just audio for an estimate on a repair my advice is to forget about it or quite possibly the same thing that happened to me will happen to you. read more

Very disappointing experience. I called this morning about repairing a very old turntable. Person on the phone was very polite and said to bring it in and they'll look at it. I also asked if they had similar models for sale in case the repair cost wasn't worth it and they replied that they do have older turntables for sale and that may be an option. So I bring it in and at the store they inform me there's a $60 fee to look at it, which is applied to the repair cost. Ok, I understand it takes time to diagnose a repair issue, and time is money, but why not be upfront about it when a customer calls. Then I ask the repair cost range I'm looking at and they say they can't tell me that. We talk a little more and I'm told they know the cost range but it's "against company policy" to inform the customer. WHAT??? Are you trying to hide exorbitant pricing? If not, then why not inform the customer the cost range of the repair. With that, I took my turntable and left. Incidentally, I spoke with two people at the service desk. The gal was very nice but the guy who broke into our conversation apparently wasn't having a good day and behaved as such. read more

I had to bring my Yamaha vintage receiver back 4 times before it got fixed and the owner was the one working on it. He was not very friendly and disinterested in talking about my concerns. The receiver broke down again after a little more than a year. Not covered under warranty. I'm not ever bringing him any of my gear to be fixed. read more

On 10/30/2015 the company offered me in my opinion a racist settlement that I was no longer allowed in there store for complaining about him and his staff giving me attitude and to give me back less than half of the money I paid for the extended warranty and no mention of the training so I take that to mean that him nor any of his staff will NOT be taking any Diversity/Equality and customer service training to better serve their African american and other minority customers. No; I do not accept their offer because in my own personal opinion they continue to show a racist attitude and behavior by Their response of me not being welcome in their store is proof of their racist attitude and behavior all because I verbally stated to the owner that I did not appreciate the office manager giving me attitude just because she did not understand that I did not need a receipt for the purchase of my receiver because I purchased an extended warranty from their company which as I told her she would need to look up in the stores computer system. She then said "oh; ok and then looked me up in the system as I told her she needed to do. Afterwards I told her I did not appreciate the attitude she gave me and asked for the owner to express my disappointment in her behavior and the OWNER gave me the same attitude. Now; why would I be getting all this attitude from the owner and the manager just because I explained that I did not have a receipt; even if I did have a receipt but not on me at the time you would still need to look it up in your store system, so again; why was I given so much attitude and NO I WAS NOT GONNA DROP THE FACT THAT YOU BOTH GAVE ME ATTITUDE FOR NO REASON AND WAS RUDE. You don't want me back in your store...what you don't want is African Americans in your store unless their going to act like slaves and take your abusive attitude for no reason as you take our money. NO, NO, you cannot have any more of my money now that I know who you are and what you represent. You smile when you take my money and tell me to never come to your store again when I want a repair fixed under your warranty. Plus I only brought my woofer in for repair and you said all it needed was a reset so you never fixed it and this is the third time I have brought my receiver back due to no video and you have never fixed it SO UNDER THE WARRANTY YOU HAVE NEVER FIXED ANYTHING AND HAVE RIPPED ME OFF OF THE COST OF THE WARRANTY so I have not used 21 months, BUT YOU DON'T MIND KEEPING BLACK MONEY BUT YOU WILL TELL US TO NEVER COME TO YOUR STORE. I'm glad these guys aren't any closer, or they would have all my money. Great selection of used equipment, all refurbished nicely, in great working condition, and priced reasonably. I described my existing system (90's era Technics) and they matched up a CD player, cassette player and an EQ! It all works flawlessly, and sounds terrific. All around a very pleasant experience. Verbatim, my last communication via email with this establishment. "I picked up the amp today. I do not like wasting my time or money. - None of the switches and/or dials on this amp were cleaned - This amp WAS NOT TESTED * - This amp has significant hum in both channels - Feedback/static in Volume, Balance, Bass, Treble .. ALL of them There is so much feedback/static at even the lowest volume I feared that my speaker woofers in each cabinet may have been damaged. If this individual states that he cleaned this amps' potentiometers as I specified in my note then he is absolutely lying. I do not intend to keep traveling back to this establishment for subpar/sub-standard work. * If this amp was bench tested then the feedback/static/noise in this amp was simply ignored as it is impossible for me to believe that it ONLY performed in this manner when connected to my JBLs, my turntable using my speaker wire in my apartment. I paid the initial diagnostic fee I paid a "rush" fee I paid close to $400 dollars for an amp "service" that in appearance looks like a few caps were cut out and some tubes stuck in and then I'm sent an email saying the amp is ready. In my complete experience thus far with exception of the first amp, the service on three separate occasions at Just Audio have been absolutely disappointing with me basically accepting issues that I should not have to.. ------------------ To elaborate on my compounded and forgiven (for Just Audio) unsatisfied experience: ++I brought my JBL L112s to have the tweeters swapped - I'm told that "they sound great" when in fact the tweeter that was put in was actually lower in volume just as I experienced at home. So, If I had just taken them home on the word of whoever listened to them it would have been a complete waste (again) of time. How is someone (or people) with admitted degenerative hearing able to accurately evaluate balance/tone in a pair of speakers? As I'm testing to ensure the tweeters match I noticed that the unit switched was not aligned with the screws and I mentioned it to whatever the individual's name was, Lenny? I specifically pointed out to him and he said "oh yeah I'll switch it straight, I just wanted to have you test" or something to that effect. I get home and that same tweeter was put back in misaligned. That's simply lack of attention to detail and bad customer service. I guess I'll have to figure that out - I'm not transporting an almost 40 yo 50 lb speaker back to MD again. ++Before the JBLs I brought my Sansui 3000a in for biasing, cleaning and tuner adjustment. I specifically stated that I wanted to have the tuner aligned and the glass plate inside cleaned. Not only is the glass plate "cleaned" with seemingly a wet napkin it's smeared when the bulb illuminates the dial. I can do it and know how to but since I'm PAYING for a service anyway why not have that done? How difficult is it to wipe glass? When I got the amp home and turned it on, the tuner was aligned WORSE than it was before I brought it in - 89.3 is actually 88.1. Again, impossible that this was actually tested/checked to ENSURE the alignment of the FM station matched the dial number indicated - and if it was, AGAIN it was simply ignored - UNSAT so I basically paid for something that not only wasn't accomplished, I also paid for degraded performance. I need to speak with the owner, if he isn't in tomorrow I'd like another avenue of me contacting him and you can email that information. I'll call tomorrow." I stated to the owner, that with each of my visits the service over the past year each experience was disappointing, frustrating and degrading in quality control. I was given an explanation of the "additional volume of units taken into inventory from all over the US" with few technicians on-hand has made the business busier, as if that is an excuse; inexcusable. There is a quality controls issue. I'm given a partial refund for the non-service referenced above as evidenced by my video and pictures (that I wish could be shared on Yelp) sent to Just Audio; there's no denying the NON-service provided. I THOUGHT I found a more worthy business than my previous review, but turned out with similar experience. I will take much time finding another, however I am not optimistic. read more

Drove more than an hour to drop my Denon processor at this service center. Paid $40 check-up fee. 3 weeks later, not a word. Called in, got an answer: " we just assigned a technician to take a look at your device". 5 min later, a technician called back: " your Denon's hdmi does not work". "That was what I said to you people when I dropped it in". "well, you need a new video board". "I thought you can just repair or replace something on the board". " we only replace the WHOLE board. The board itself costs more than $700." " I myself can also change the WHOLE board. You might as well tell me to buy a new one." Back home. My wife, who does not even know what a "processor" is, said to me :" I told you. You need to buy a new one". And she is so right. read more

Unit returned with two inch long scratches on faceplate and dripping liquid fluid tracked down to over use of detox switch cleaner. After showing the owner images he offered a full refund but that doesn't remedy the damage to the unit. Furthermore, the repair invoice listed two soldering repairs that were not done. The owner told me they just list normal things they do on repair tickets not necessarily what they did! Sounds like fraud to me! read more

I recently sent a 3-year-old Marantz to Just Audio for warranty repair. Before sending it to them, Audyssey setup would not emit a test signal through the center channel speaker. For them it did emit such signal, as it did when the receiver was returned to me. So while Just Audio didn't apparently make any repair, for me they fixed my problem. Now, reasons for 5 stars: - when I inquired about how to return to them for warranty repair, the phone was answered promptly, pleasantly, graciously and very efficiently - the test engineer called me to discuss the problem I had reported, as he didn't experience what I had experienced; I explained that I was going to be out of town for a few weeks so unable to receive it if shipped back to me, and Just Audio had no problem keeping it for ~3 weeks before subsequently reaching out to me to see if it was OK to ship it back - before shipping back to me, they contacted me by phone and by E-mail (which was handy as I was 12 time zones away in Asia) to confirm that it was convenient for them to ship it back to me - no charge, despite the fact that they didn't find anything wrong. Based on this, if I ever need warranty service on anything, Just Audio will be my first port of call. read more

Took my Soundcraft Ghost console in to be repaired. The repair estimate was 300.00. Literally 8 months later I got it back. The cost? 800.00! Took an old cassette deck in that wouldn't play. The cost? 180.00. The tech replaced two belts and supposedly calibrated it. Got it home. Yeah, it worked, but the speed was WAY off! Instead of taking it back, I got on YouTube and figured it out myself. Will NEVER go back to them again.... read more

Broke my equipment instead of fixing it. They do not stand behind their work and don't care about the customer. Having always preferred to give my business to local shops, I had previously taken two of my vintage turntables to JustAudio for repair. Although partially fixed, in both cases I discovered that their repairs had been incomplete and I'd had to bring the units back to them a second time to finish the job. That alone should have been a red flag. Unfortunately, I chose to trust them yet again with another piece of vintage equipment, a REVOX tuner. I'd brought them a functioning tuner with a minor problem. After paying the $40 estimate fee, they called and gave me an estimate for $200 which I approved. Soon thereafter, they called me and actually stated that after their attempted repairs, the unit no longer works at all. I explained that this status was unacceptable to me and asked them to at least return it the original state it had been in when I brought it in for repairs, but they told me to pick it up - there was nothing more they could do. Their excuse was, "read your claim check, we are not responsible" In an attempt to resolve the issue and after understanding the JustAudio was unwilling to do anything I contacted the BBB with a complaint. To my surprise and disgust, JustAudio responded to the BBB in writing, stating that the tuner "is functioning the same as when it was brought to us." That's quite different from when they ADMITTED to me over the phone that they'd broken it. There was nothing left for me to do but to pick up my tuner. Since I brought home my tuner I have observed that it is indeed now unusable as they stated over the phone - the sound coming out of it is now entirely distorted, making it impossible to listen to (it was fine before). JustAudio does not appear to take any pride in their services and they are sorely lacking in integrity. I am very unhappy with this experience and I will never bring them any more business. If you want to keep your equipment intact, take it somewhere else. read more

While I'm sure they're great with in-warranty repair & common items I'm very disappointed with my experience. I brought in a Laserdisc player that I had already inspected and troubleshot as a bad motor. I explained this to them over the phone, and again when I brought it in for a $40 - 10 (that became 15) day estimate period. Now, I agree that it could have been anything - this is true, but it wasn't anything, it was in fact the motor - a part that they could not order, so they returned the machine without repair. In my opinion, going into this transaction they should have been upfront about the rarity of parts, and I would not've bothered leaving the machine with them in the 1st place. I honestly would not have requested a refund if not for the tech that called me tried to convince me to "let them throw it out", then told me how much I could get for parts on eBay! Obviously they had no intention of making things right, just looking for suckers to scam out of $40, or more if they could bank resalable parts. Looking at the other reviews that reflect this experience I should have checked them out on here 1st. Lesson learned. read more

I took my GE clock radio into them because it would not play. They said they do not repair clocks (clock was working fine) but just the radio and the light on the clock. They agreed to repair that and replace the light. I got the clock radio back and the on/off switch, snooze button and the alarm button did not work, while they did work when I brought the radio in. I took it back to them and they said that they do not repair clocks. I explained to them that the clock was working fine (still does) but the switch to the radio and the snooze button and alarm button had been damaged by the shop when they took the radio apart and re-assembled it. Again, they said "we do not repair clocks", and I told them it was the switch to the radio that did not work and the light that they agreed to replace did not work either. I left it there 2 weeks and when I came to pick it up, it appeared that they had not fixed it, and the switches and light do not work. I showed this to the shop and they said they could not do anything to fix it because the radio was too old--although the model is still available today!!! Supposed to have a 90-day warranty on their repairs but they did not even stand by the repairs that I paid for, and did not receive. read more

This place specializes in working on - and selling - audio equipment that time forgot. There are things on their shelves that I guess not even the '70's could kill. Some of it, from memory, is decent stuff for way back. I've seen people bring in gizmos out of their attic that should have been flung on to a trash heap when dinosaurs still roamed the Earth, but they wanted it repaired and the Just Audio folks will try to oblige. I brought in a very high-quality Jolida 502B integrated amplifier, from a company based in Maryland, and they'd never heard of it. You have to put $40 up front and then you don't hear anything for at least 10 days. That's the deal, and they tell you that up front. That's backlog. The repairs I wanted were largely cosmetic - terminals and such. When I got the amp back it sounded terrible. They said the power tubes were all but dead. I was pissed off: It sounded fine when I brought it in! They took it back to go over it. I bought new power tubes in the meantime and came back. My other tubes were not old at all. So, we installed the new ones and biased them right then and there. Everything seems to have turned out OK, but I'm only inside a week as I write this. The amp sounds good (not great; I don't love the tubes I bought). As far as courteous and friendly (reading the other reviews): Sometimes good relationships start with a cheerful customer. Don't put people repairing things for you on the defensive. They're people. That's just my two cents. I found them very kind and seemingly knowledgeable. The work they do is extremely valuable because no one else does this kind of stuff. Electronics seem built to become obsolete these days. These folks repair from yesteryear and probably can handle most modern gear as well. When your manufacturer doesn't like the repair side of the equation, these guys become even more important. When you have something old you want to bring to life, they're it. They stay open until 8 p.m., which is really nice. They are open on Saturday. Just Audio feels like something that belongs in Baltimore; you'd never find this in D.C. Rent. Real estate. Etc. I'm really glad they're here, and I recommend them. Reminded me that I can fix things myself, would give them 5 stars for that lesson but they truly were a waste of time. They never called me back when they say they would. They never emailed me back when they say they would. They had a hard time looking up parts (it was a late 1950's record player) which I can understand and may take some time. After a month of when I dropped it off they could not find the parts. I ended up doing my own search of parts taking about 7 mins to do (I had to turn on the computer and check Facebook first). I called them, up giving part numbers and offering to have the parts shipped to them or having me drop them off. For whatever reason they were very reluctant about that and kept insisting that they will find the parts themselves and kept reminding me that it is a old machine so it takes time ( I was fully aware of this even before I dropped off the record player). They are truly unprofessional and you may be better off having the crack head down the street take a look at your equipment. Honestly I wish these guys the best, hardly any audio equipment stores around these days but they need to get their sh!t together because at the moment I find them personally terrible. I spent nearly $400 trying to get Just Audio to fix a 5-disc CD player. They'd hold it for months trying to recreate the problem I experienced (skipping), and then they'd give it back saying it was fixed sayingt had been the fault of this part, and then it was fixed again, the problem being a different part. It never stayed fixed. Within days, the problem would return. I'll never again bring a component to them. read more

I took a Sony flip clock radio in for the radio portion to be repaired. The AM was not working well. This is not my first time at Just Audio and as before there is a $40 charge to analyze the problem. This charge is applied if you have repair performed, lost if the repair can't be carried out or you decide not to have the unit fixed. In this case I was concerned because of the nature of the problem. In most repairs there is a 90 day warranty but I was told in this case JA would not warrant their work because of the age of the unit and the part could not be replaced. I agreed to go ahead with the work. The technician rebuilt the part and I am very pleased with his work. JA was very upfront about this repair. As in the past I am very pleased with the quality of their work. read more

I used to bring equipment to John at Just Audio for a long time and always received top notch service from a friendly staff. Their service may still be very good but I don't think I'll be finding out anytime soon. My girlfriend brought in a piece of gear for me to be repaired (have a diagnostic run) and the woman she dealt with was incredibly rude. I don't know if it's the same woman mentioned in other reviews or not but when people start to complain about customer service I would pay attention if I were the owner. Took a mixer / controller to them for repairs as I thought they were a autorized Denon DJ repair center which they are not as verified by D&M Pro. The mixer leftthe shop less functional then when first dropped off would not power up . They atempted to fix the problems but turned a 800.00 unit into a brick that is now back at the manufactor for repairs. They have been misleading from beginning what a way to treat a new first time customer. see BBB Case# 36088056 would not recommend to fix a glass of water. read more

I took my amplifier to Just Audio for evaluation. I was told they would provide an estimate after the evaluation. I was concern about spending too much money on an old amplifier. The salesman indicated the repair would not exceed $150. The repair estimate came back at $250, when I bulked at the price they immediately offer a discount. In my opinion the offer of a discount is not a good indication of how they operate. I opted to just pick my amplifier up and take it somewhere else as I didn't feel I could trust them after the bait and switch on the repair price. I just received a call from the second shop that is going to repair the amplifier. This shop indicated Just Audio removed some pots and replaced them with pots that are not the correct model and do not properly fit on the board. They also indicated the amplifier was not put back into an as found condition. When I contronted Just Audio about what happened the person on the phone gave conflicting stories about the work they performed. I wouldn't recommend Just Audio if your looking for an audio repair facility. read more
