I rarely bring my cats in, so it's been a couple years, but I'm pretty sure Peanut's dental cleaning from 3 years ago up in Dallas was almost exactly the same cost as the quote they gave me for Pepper??? So I'm not sure why folks are saying they're so expensive - seems to be in line/competitive with other vets... I like that it's only cats here - and P&P appreciate that, too! No barking dogs when I bring them in! They give you cat nip instead of dog treats - and Pepper usually doesn't get a reaction from nip, but this stuff - she was having a blast! My cats are very frightened of strangers, so they were definitely stressed out being here - but no more stressed than when they see other strangers - and neither cat nipped at the doctor or vet tech (and Peanut is a tortie - known for "tortitude") I'll definitely be bringing both my girls here so long as I'm in Houston! read more

I don't normally leave bad reviews, but I feel an obligation to warn people about Just Cats - it's an absolute scam. The female vet we saw completely lacked warmth, personality, and had no bedside manner. She was also quite condescending and tried to evoke fear. It was so obvious that they push their "gold standard" suggestions by grossly over suggesting treatments. My first visit with my purebred cat (Ching Ching - they saw dollar signs the moment we walked through the door) and worked up a $1k estimate!!! What a joke. They then try to justify it as "the best possible treatment" for your pet, but it is beyond excessive. I was then told if I didn't want to do everything they suggested, to find another vet. I literally left the appointment nearly in tears. They are not interested in helping your cat, they are interested in making a profit. No thank you! Don't be a sucker - go elsewhere. Lets start with $116 office visit! Not emergency room charge that much . The dr was ok . But the tech was super slow and they kept us in the room for exam for 3 hrs . My cat was hyperventilating and developed 104 fever from stress . He needed blood drawn on empty stomach so i said i can being him back next day and they said their techs make their own appointments and there is no one to draw blood ! Never heard of that before . There were suppose to send a link of food sites and details on what to be done when we get home , well i didnt get any . Blood work results were hack on fridays . We have been clients and fans of Just Cats for years. We have six kittys that have been treated here and very well taken care of. Just called this am to set up wellness checks for four more of our herd. I asked to speak with the manager about a possible package deal and was totally stonewalled and questioned by whoever answered the phone. We are past clients and were not asking for a discount because all four of the kittys were current clients at Just Cats. I echo the sentiments of some of the other reviewers. Too expensive and they recommend too many procedures and tests. We prefer a more conservative and holistic approach. I was hoping they understood cats more than a regular vet but it's nothing special. The final straw was that when they insisted our cat get routine labs he nipped the tech during blood draw. Didn't even break her skin. Despite the cats having a rabies shot and being only indoor cats we had to bring him back in 2 weeks to make sure he wasnt rabid. We had to pay full exam price for that second visit just to glance at him. They then put in chart that they need sedation for every visit going forward. My cats are Persian which are known as a very docile breed. They never bite unless someone is physically hurting them. So I feel they overreacted. They should know how to keep cats calm without sedation. read more

First Mister O'Malley was the best greeter ever :) second Rhonda was amazing when contacting me to set greys initial surgery. Long story short I had a terrible experience with another place and honestly I'm glad. Because this allowed me (or my vet) to find such a great place!!! The staff was AMAZING (sorry i forgot the vet tech who was in my initial consultations name but she was a super star!!) the vet tech just put me at ease immediately. I'm super picky with my pets and I ABSOLUTELY NEED people that care because my animals deserve the best. She allowed grey to do what ever he wanted (he wanted to sit the the cabinet but it's not allowed at home) which made him super comfy. I was in tears when I had to leave him over night but she reassured me that he will be well cared for. Which he was. Then there is Dr. McManis....I don't even have the words to express how grateful I am. She went above and beyond to make sure I fully understood the surgery grey would need. She was up front but delivered the information in a way that put me at ease. She listened to my concerns and answered all questions I had. Post surgery she followed up via phone and she walked me step by step through the procedure. Again I can't even express how grateful I am. Most importantly I know grey is so grateful and can now live a more comfy life. It's hard for me to trust anyone with my pets but hands down I would recommend just cats for anyone looking for a great vet and staff that truly cares. this place was the total opposite from the last place I had visited. Just Cats has boarded feline specialists, which means they do more intensive, specific training to give felines - your feline - the absolute best care around. The vast majority of veterinarians work with multiple species, like dogs, cats, reptiles, birds, ferrets and hamsters. But these DVMs don't which is why they are a little more $ than a multispecies Veterinary practice. They are worth it. A stray cat sauntered into my house a few months ago, starving, dehydrated, and in pain. I took her to Dr Dresner and found she had five pelvic fractures (the pain of defecating through the broken pelvis made her constipated, too), and she was so dehydrated that she had an abscess on her leg that didn't present itself until she was on fluids for a day!! The amazing, attentive staff placed a tube down her nose/throat to rehydrate her with a mild laxative, which is something most vets wouldn't try - they'd do stressful, painful enemas for constipation. Even with a broken pelvis. Dr Dresner provided excellent pain control with a combo of patches and pills, so this little stray was feeling much better right away, and for her entire six week recovery. Thanks to the amazing care, good communication, and cat-specialist training of the doctors, Ivy is running, jumping, playing, and pooping like a normal cat! Two things: 1) I am a licensed veterinary technician, and I've been in the field for 15 years, mostly in emergency and internal medicine specialties. I know what's Good Medicine and what's not, and Just Cats is Good Medicine. I do not work there, but I'm very happy with their standards. 2) a doctor will always recommend the best possible care for your pet. Their job is to stay up to date with constantly evolving medicine practices, and so they offer what is best. It is up to you to choose whether or not you want to accept the best option, or if you would prefer something else (Cadillac vs Chevy, in a previous review). JCVS will work around your budget, to ensure the best care you can afford is given where it's needed, if you ask. They are worth every penny. read more

Horrible experience with Dr Dresner. Scheduled my appointment 2 weeks in advance. The day before they say my cat needs to be sedated and that I need to pick up a prescription from two different places. It's a work day so I only have time to get one. It sedates her but when I bring her in she hisses a little so they say they can't see her. Never had a vet, especially one that specializes in cats, that's scared of them. Took them forever to get me her records when I said I'd be taking her somewhere else. Never going back. Also very over priced. Avoid this place and take your cat to someplace that has the expertise to work with them. Especially if they're a bit difficult at the vet (like most cats.) read more

So I severely disliked this place at first because they'd call me EVERY DAY while we were on vacation with an update on our cat, who is and was healthy, and it was overkill. And when we had to think twice about expensive dental care they seemed shocked, as if getting a cat's teeth cleaned is what everyone has always done. I grew up with cats and that wasn't done then; I understand it's done now. Over time I've grown to very much respect Just Cats and be thankful they are here. I tried Woodlands Animal Clinic and it just wasn't the same - feel in the office, especially. Very warm and friendly people at Just Cats!! They Are AWESOME!! I took my elderly cat here for a year and they took such great care of him. I told them I put him on hospice and just wanted marginal care for him, not all the expensive labs, ect.. just some pain meds from time to time. They really respected me and listened to me. No $400 vet bills. When it came time to put Pharoah to sleep, Dr. McNamis was so gentle. They must have a special room for this, but it had a window, so he got to look outside one last time, and they put a really nice blanket down for him to sit on, and then they put an IV in to sedate him prior to giving him the the euthenizing drug. Very humane. My beloved pet was treated very respectfully. Once he had passed, they carried him out in a blanket wrapped up and made a foot print of his paw that they gave me. I will say they were so professional and kind. If you are looking for a Cat only vet they ARE the BEST! They know exactly what they are doing, they are a bit on the $$-$$$ side, but they will give you options without making you feel like you cant sleep at night. read more

It really seems this place just tries to make as much money as possible each visit and they act so surprised and patronising when you question the high costs. The implication is that you don't really care for your pet if you don't agree to have yet another blood test or X-ray done. Then they phone and phone and e mail and get really annoyed if you don't get back to them immediately with updates. Whose needs are they meeting here?! Yes they clearly care about cats but it just comes across as really insincere and childish 'have a purfect day' give me a break. Bottom line, when we moved here one of my cats had a long history of mouth problems. We had tried many solutions over many years and I really believe in quality of life for my pets rather than quantity if the cat is going to live pain free. It's not the ideal solution but we found the only thing that allowed him to live pain free and eat were steroid injections. Just Cats refused to listen to my request. So we went through over $3000 of treatment, blood tests, operations and 3 weeks of seeing my cat dying in front of us because he was in too much pain to eat or drink. This was their first dealing with my cat and they never listened to me. My requests or detailed records of his history were of no interest to them. They had to do their own tests and x rays even though I had very recent results from his health checks when we emigrated. All I believe to make extra money. Eventually it became clear that nothing was working so they begrudgingly- and I mean begrudgingly!- gave him a steroid. Guess what? It worked. And it cost about $40. Now every time we go for a top up we have to go through the farce of some new test or blood work as well! This is my first review for Yelp because I feel so angry and let down by this money grabbing insincere group. They absolutely did not have my cat's best interests at heart and pig headedly refused to listen to me until he had lost so much weight it was clear he might actually die. They are the kind of outfit that give the veterinary profession a bad name. read more

I did not know about Just Cats but a veterinarian at our animal shelter recommended them. I had taken my precious 16 year old cat to another local vet who did a cursory exam and told me my cat had crystals in his urine and gave him an antibiotic shot. I was told to bring him back in 3 weeks for another shot and check up. When I went back; another doctor saw him and clearly had not read the chart as he had no idea why I was there. He said my cat was in good shape. When I asked if he should be checked for crystals and or be given another shot, he said no. Well 4 days later my cat was nearly dead. I took him to Just Cats and after many tests and an ultra sound, it was found he had pancreatis which was most likely caused by a UTI. The doctor put him on an IV and prescribed meds. After two days, my cat finally started eating and drinking again. He has a ways to go but I am so grateful to Dr. Dresner and the staff. They are all so friendly and compassionate and extremely thorough and competent. I am forever grateful to them for saving my companion ' s life. read more

AWFUL and OVERPRICED!! Unfortunately, my cat had been a patient at Just Cats for years and being my first experience with a vet and not knowing better I thought the crazy high prices and awful service was normal. Recently, I took my cat there for urination issues and pain. They knew immediately what his diagnosis was and that they did not have the overnight facilities to properly care for him. However, they insisted that they perform an exam, testing and begin treatment while explaining that I would probably have to drive him to an vet ER after spending thousands, yes thousands! of dollars at Just Cats for one day of care. They had kept him overnight with no supervision and a clogged catheter that resulted in a painfully engorged bladder the next morning. After the minimal (and cruel) treatment our cat received there for over $1,400, I took him home in worse condition than he was to begin with. Then, when we shared our experience with our coworkers, they told us that Just Cats was the worst vet in The Woodlands and we were referred to the Bear Branch Animal Hospital where our cat was given excellent care at a reasonable price and came home happy. I was extremely disappointed with them. The vet barely looked at my cat and I spent more time with a girl going over each and every charge they were going to bill me. They even charged me a higher office visit fee because I mentioned she had been to another vet. They said it was a secondary consultation fee? Really! I have never been billed like that ever! Even after paying over $1000 of their crazy fees they never did give me a clear diagnosis besides telling me to bring her back after she lost some weight. This is a review not of the knowledge or caring of the vets or the desk staff but rather the attitude communicated by the office manager and their practice. I had gone into this vet many times and found this place to be fine albeit they usually seem to think their clients are there to serve them. I found much more caring and better service from Alden Bridge Animal Clinic when I lived in the area. My most recent experience was one that is not acceptable. I have a cat that has acute renal failure which means she is dying very soon. I took her in as soon as I noticed a change in her and they ran a full blood panel. I was told that would take an hour or so and it was recommended for me to leave her. That was only for the reason if there was any follow up care for them to provide. 90 minutes later I had not heard anything so I called to check on the test status. I was told the results were not available and it would be awhile. After another hour I decided I would simply go back (hour round trip) and sit there if I had not heard anything after three hours. I did go up there and advised it had been awhile and I wanted to know the results and I complained nicely about the delay. The response? "If she was a human tests could take a day or two" as though there is some appropriate analogy to be made. If she was human and the results were 2 to 4 days late (2 times or 4 times too long) I would have been much more upset and gone elsewhere. I advised I was not going to wait another hour and I was going to take my cat. They could just call me. It was only then they confessed to a problem with their equipment. Nice. Tell me that up front when I call the first time. They magically got her test result within 10 minutes and said they would email me the estimate for care with options. Her condition was going to be fatal soon and was imminent. I had previously asked if they could give me an idea of her prognosis and all they would say was "guarded". I wanted to know generally what I could expect. Death within a few days? What treatments if any were possible and what the cost would be generally so I could decide what to do. They resisted answering me. I left their office at 3:30. These care estimates are always done within minutes. By the end of the day I had not received anything or even a referral to any critical care facility since they don't provide IV flushing over days per what they had stated. I called the next morning and complained I had not recieved the estimate that also would provide options for care. My cat was much worse off waiting for a decision to be made. I had to know the cost and I wanted to also ask once I got that information as to prognosis depending on what could be done. The answer? We have only three technicians and the estimate had not been reviewed yet. Really? One that takes minutes to do and less time to review?! I was angry at that point and told them to get it done and get it to me. The response from the office manager who had taken my call was I couldn't tell her what to do. After hanging up the phone I clled back wanting to speak with the manager. That was when I found out that was who I had been speaking with. I told her to take care of business and hung up on her. Agreed that was not nice but at this point I had been lied to and the service was severely delayed while my cat was dying waiting on them to take their sweet time to provide a simple service. Apparently we are there for them and not vice versa. Understandably they didn't want to talk to me again and I cared never to deal with them again. If you are okay with your vet being deceptive and delaying critical information while you are trying get care for your pet then use this place. This is not a comment on the vets or the techs as they are fine. This is an operations issue. The foregoing is all in my opinion. read more
