The first time I went to this clinic, Dr. Don was great. The 2nd time I went, which was on March 13, it was the worst experience I've ever had at a vet in 40 years. My terrier had a major back injury in 2023 that left her paralyzed for a month. After extensive rehab, she re-gained most of her mobility. On a recent long-distance trip, I left my terrier with a trusted friend for 3 days. Unfortunately, she escaped and was missing for 20 hours. She was in bad shape when we found her. I made an appointment at this clinic for a check-up since she was roaming for 20 hours and also declining due to her back injury. The tech asked me a series of questions upon arrival. I explained her history and recent escape. Another tech came in the room and removed my terrier for 45 minutes. The vet came in, no introduction. He was rude, abrasive and hurried. He showed me a black & white copy of a dog's spine and said he thinks this is what was wrong with my pup. My BELOVED terrier wasn't even in the room. When they finally brought her back in, I asked to see the vet again with my terrier present because I had specific questions about her stance, legs, etc. He was clearly ANNOYED at the inconvenience of seeing me again and told me he had already examined her. I explained my concerns. He never even LOOKED at her or put hands on the areas of my concern. He was incredibly rude and made several inappropriate comments. Once he left the room, his female tech apologized and said he was having a "bad day" and attempted to HUG ME, of which I put my hand up. Even though I told the tech I DID NOT need a heartworm test multiple times, and watched her write that down, they did one and put the charge on my bill. At check-out, I told yet another rude woman I declined the heartworm test and she said she would remove it "as a courtesy". Earlier in my 2-hour visit, THAT woman raised her voice to me as she attempted to apologize for the behavior of the vet. UNREAL. The next day I called Dr. Don and told him I was in his clinic the day before and wanted to discuss my experience with him when he had time between appointments. He rambled a quick response and literally hung up on me. His receptionist called me 5 minutes later asking how she could help, I explained that I wanted to share my experience with Dr. Don. It's been 12 days, and I have yet to receive a call. I know there are irate, unfair people who live to make trouble and complain. I am not one of them. I love my terrier and every pet I have had the privilege to own in my life. I have never been treated worse at a vet clinic (or any business), a place where you expect the staff to love animals or at least fake it. This staff was beyond rude or uncomfortably, fake nice who try to hug you. So bizarre. I was close to tears after I left this 2-hour visit which should have taken 30-45 minutes. There is no way I will ever step foot in The Pet Wellness Clinic again. Owner Dr. Don Hartfiel could have resolved this matter by returning my call and caring about his client(s). The buck stops with him. **I'm new to the area and was looking for a new vet. My previous one in Katy was awesome!

What is wrong with this guy? A few months ago DR. RENE…read moreRUBIO,DVM with CROSSWAY VETERINARY HOUSECALLS, made a house call for a sedated nail trim and some annual care for my dog. Unbeknownst to me, instead of a nail "trim", he quicked my dogs nails. This is a brutal procedure and most vets will not do it. Before this happened, I had never heard of quicking. If he had told me what he was going to do, I would have never allowed it. When my dogs nails started growing in, one of them is split into 3 sections and looks like a peeled banana. It's red and swollen and all the fur is gone. For the last couple of weeks she can't even walk. Because her toe has gotten progressively worse, we called Dr. Rubio to schedule an appointment, so this could get taken care of and to my surprise, he said he won't treat my dog and to take her somewhere else. He said she would need surgery, but he himself does surgery! Why won't he treat my dog???? Her toe was fine before he did this procedure and now he won't even see her and try to help her! It's not like I asked for free services or even a discount. I just want my dog to be herself again, so I don't care how much it costs! ( and trust me, this guy is expensive!) I will be filing a complaint with the Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners this afternoon. I'm also going to contact an attorney. Vets have a standard of care to follow too. In my 58 years and countless pets, this is absolutely the worst experience I've ever had with a veterinarian. This buisness' moto is, "We treat your pets like family". Well, sir, if that's true, I feel very sorry for your relatives. BE VERY CAUTIOUS IF YOU LET THIS GUY TREAT YOUR PET!

I Called every Exotic Vets and all are booked ('Mon Tue Wed). If I waited until then he would have died. My last call was to PAWS2CLAWS. They were also booked however when I told them what he was going (they passed on to Dr.Scott, she said to hurry up and get here. Took me an hour and it was well worth the drive! Straight to the back and she ended up going home with 2 pain meds and a powder to mix with water to hand feed him (syringe in corner of mouth). I did have to syringe water for him. When Dr. Scott came in, she wasn't pleasant and acted as if she couldn't touch my dog, even though he had a muzzle on. She left, and I was given an initial cost of over $1000 to start treating my dog, which I couldn't afford. The cost was then reduced to $800, and finally to $192 for bloodwork, fluids and an office visit, which I could afford. However, they said my dog wouldn't let them give him fluids nor could they draw his blood, so they sent me home with meds (pills) and charged me $162, advising me to bring him back in 2 weeks. Unfortunately, my dog wasn't eating, so giving him the meds didn't work and by the next day, he was worse. I took the long drive to his previous vet, where I should have gone initially. They immediately took action, assisted me with CareCredit and although I now have an $1800 bill, I will gladly pay it for the service and treatment my dog is receiving. Had Dr. Scott shown some kindness and not spoken about my dog in a non-caring manner in her back hallway; the walls are thin my dear, I would have applied for CareCredit at their clinic to get him treated. I will never go back to this place and Dr. Scott needs to consider a new line of work because part of being a veterinarian is to care about the animals you're servicing, regardless of breed, the owner's race, or financial status. I wasn't looking for free services; I was looking for help and guidance, but I didn't find it there.

Our first experience speaks volumes: We moved from out of state, and were in a short term rental that didn't allow dogs. Along the way, our GSD Knight developed a problem attitude around being kenneled, which resulted in him getting asked to leave a couple of boarding places, which was super distressing. Forest Shadows was recommended by a friend who warned me they had a couple low online reviews at the time, but she personally attested to how great they were with her 2 nippy dogs. Since I trusted her and we needed help, we reached out, discussed his behaviors, and enrolled him in the Board & Train 2 week program which worked perfectly with our timeline. It was a GOD-SEND. Long story short: Knight came back to us super happy and way better trained. The staff communicated specific adjustments to help his kennel issues, monitored situations when our dog didn't respond well, adjusted accordingly, and more importantly expressed they "weren't going to give up on him and were willing to keep trying." I literally cried when they told me that. What really exemplifies Forest Shadow's amazing staff is our experience moving out of the US during the global pandemic. After we sold our home, we boarded Knight, we flew to the UK, and relied on Forest Shadows to work with our Pet Relocation team so he could join us overseas. The relocation process got delayed a few times, and he ended up boarding with Forest Shadows for just over 2 months. During this trying time, they were patient, flexible, willing to assist, and sympathetic to our changing circumstances. I was so grateful we didn't have to stress about our dog! All the staff delivered great customer service: front desk Ms. Terri helped me understand the best combination of services, both Ms. Rachaels facilitated our visits, Mr. Terry was great at doggy day care, and Trainer Terry even did a refresh training. In particular, Ms. Laurie and Mr. Michael were our angels, as they worked with me and the pet travel company, kept me posted regarding food, medicine, and treat needs, and helped me problem solve issues like getting him transported for health checks, and even finding a USDA approved Vet. We are truly grateful that Forest Shadows never gave up on our vocal uber-energetic GSD, and they were absolutely instrumental in helping us move our furkid overseas so he could be home with us. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND them and can attest to their level of commitment.
