My haircut was uneven, he didn't even touch underneath my chin, and seemed to be trying to rush me out. Everything looked normal until I left and FaceTimed my father (a barber since 1996) and he pointed out everything wrong with it. Since I had an appointment later that day and he lives on the opposite side of town I had to end up going to another barbershop to right a wrong for a total amount of $50 spent. Reminds me of Kontrol Kutz in Miami (Allapatah neighborhood) Salsa music blasting, the barbers talking about what lady action their customers may or may not have had over the weekend (in Spanish) haha I remember my barber asking a guy waiting "Pero un tipo como tu que trabaja en la calle, si tu ves a un tigre vacano en fila, tu le cobras entrada??" Funny just to listen to the conversations here LOL Granted, it helps you know some Espanol but it is a fun place to get your hair cut if you are Cubano like myself, or got that Caribbean background or just love the game of beisbol / the O's in general. Every recent Domincan Orioles player I can think of has their jersey autographed on the wall here, with a photo of them getting their hair cut here... Sosa, Vlad, Felix Pie, Daniel Carbrera, Ramon Hernandez... there were a few others too that I'm forgetting.. A little display case of pro bats as well as super cool..i think some game used batting gloves are here too.... About the haircut, it was on point. No complaints. $23 for the haircut + the shave with the knife too was a solid price. And it was the best haircut I've had in the city personally, right around the corner from where my wife gets her lady grooming done, so super convenient for me! Since moving to Baltimore I've been searching for a barber to cut my hair so I don't have to drive back to PG County. I've dabbled at a few spots and even settled on a spot. THEN, the woman cutting my hair disappeared! Anyway, here I am at Davis Barber, specifically for WaWa. I found her on my search and finally came for a cut. I hate having to going through the process of detailing what I want and hoping it's not bad. I mean, hair does grow back, but who wants to go through all that. But, WaWa had it under control. I found a pic of my hair after a cut. She asked a few questions, and BAM! It was done. I must admit, I was surprised for one by her understanding of what I wanted and 2) the fact that I wasn't in that chair for an hour while she tried to figure it out. That's what you call SKILL. And, when she was done I asked for a few modifications and......... I gotta say, I'M IMPRESSED. My partner is impressed as well. When she says she's been cutting hair for 15 years, and after personally experiencing her skills, I believe her. The shop is old school! It was like stepping back in time. They even had a few OLD, OLD vending machines. Vintage chairs and all. Very laid back. And older neighborhood, but you can park out front. I'll be back!

I moved to Baltimore in December 2011 and my quest to find a good barber has taken me all over the…read morecity (i.e., Northwood, Mondawmin Mall, Greenmount, Mt. Vernon, and Patterson Park). That journey has included frustrations, disappointments, and occasional epiphanies. Thankfully, Conheads Men's Grooming is a welcome reprieve from the bad haircuts and inconsistent barbers and wins my vote in multiple categories. Location: The barbershop is located on Antique Row right across from Maryland General Hospital and a few storefronts up the street from the Eubie Blake National Jazz Institute and Cultural Center. Phaze 10 recently opened in the area and Land of Kush is within easy walking distance. The light rail is literally right in front of the shop. Street parking requires some thought, but I always find a spot on Eutaw Street and walk over to the shop. Ambience: It's clear that the owner(s) went the extra mile and put thought into the overall design. There's a lounge area up front, an outdoor courtyard out back, and a consistent gentlemen's lounge theme throughout. There's also a decent reading selection and soul music classics are always playing in the background. Service: For $23, you get a shampoo/wash, haircut, shave, and a complimentary beverage choice of water or wine. There's also an esthetician on staff who provides additional services by appointment. Most importantly, I find all the barbers to be very personable and welcoming, extending "hello," "come back again," and "thank you". Neutral Space: Okay, I might be pushing it a bit here, but oblige me. Black barbershops are normally ground zero for loaded, politically charged conversations on identity politics, religion, sexual relations, interpersonal relations, personal preferences, and a whole range of unsolicited social commentary. In my experience, Conheads is a pretty neutral space and I usually leave feeling relaxed and renewed as opposed to tense and offended. Well done!

I went in today for a shave. Was thinkng a hot towel and shave for head and face. When I walked in,…read morethere were 3 ladies. One appeared to be a bonafide barber. One appeared to be a stylist (was in the middle of braiding). The one I went to was practice braiding on a mannequin head (in retrospect, that should have been my 1st clue). I sit in the chair, and she asks what I was getting. I told her a shave (head and face, but keep mustache and goatee). She drapes me, and about a minute later, forcefully begins cutting. I say forcefully because she literally hit my head with the clippers to cut the hair. It was a rough session. A seasoned barber knows how to place clippers on the head without knocking the client all around. They also use the right tool for the job. What I mean is, if you have to dig while cuttting, you got the wrong tool. Get the tool necessary to cut closer without digging into a persons scalp. When she was done with that, she picked up a set of trimmers to try and finish job. Clearly these trimmers were not adequate. She went and asked the other lady (barber) for an electric shaver. How, in today's time does a supposed barber not have their own electric shaver? I've seen beginner barber kits. Its part of the kit IF you went to school to get your license. At this point I am so glad I did not ask for a true shave. She takes the electric shaver and begins racing over my scalp. This is where the other lady (barber) tells her "slow strokes". I realized then she must be apprenticing. She CAN NOT be a barber. What sucks is, no one told me she was an apprentice BEFORE I sat in the chair. The end result was jacked up. My mustache had been butchered. Shave, despite using the foil shaver was incomplete. I could have requested that she clean up the mess she made but I had no confidence she could and I just wanted to get out of the chair before any more damage was done. This place is literally a hole in the wall kind of shop. The chairs for patrons to sit and wait all had holes big enough to drop a football through. I've never seen a business setup so shabbily. Their website says they are seeking new barbers. But why would a true barber want to work in a place in such disrepair? I can not in good conscience recommend this shop in any way for anyone.
