I moved to Baltimore in December 2011 and my quest to find a good barber has taken me all over the city (i.e., Northwood, Mondawmin Mall, Greenmount, Mt. Vernon, and Patterson Park). That journey has included frustrations, disappointments, and occasional epiphanies. Thankfully, Conheads Men's Grooming is a welcome reprieve from the bad haircuts and inconsistent barbers and wins my vote in multiple categories. Location: The barbershop is located on Antique Row right across from Maryland General Hospital and a few storefronts up the street from the Eubie Blake National Jazz Institute and Cultural Center. Phaze 10 recently opened in the area and Land of Kush is within easy walking distance. The light rail is literally right in front of the shop. Street parking requires some thought, but I always find a spot on Eutaw Street and walk over to the shop. Ambience: It's clear that the owner(s) went the extra mile and put thought into the overall design. There's a lounge area up front, an outdoor courtyard out back, and a consistent gentlemen's lounge theme throughout. There's also a decent reading selection and soul music classics are always playing in the background. Service: For $23, you get a shampoo/wash, haircut, shave, and a complimentary beverage choice of water or wine. There's also an esthetician on staff who provides additional services by appointment. Most importantly, I find all the barbers to be very personable and welcoming, extending "hello," "come back again," and "thank you". Neutral Space: Okay, I might be pushing it a bit here, but oblige me. Black barbershops are normally ground zero for loaded, politically charged conversations on identity politics, religion, sexual relations, interpersonal relations, personal preferences, and a whole range of unsolicited social commentary. In my experience, Conheads is a pretty neutral space and I usually leave feeling relaxed and renewed as opposed to tense and offended. Well done! read more

Another good barbershop in the Baltimore area. I have come here on multiple occasions and I am usually satisfied with the quality service given at Conheads. This barbershop brings out a more laid-back feel and old school touch that many shops seem to be missing or for better words, lacking. A couple of things I want to point out regarding Conheads is the location of the shop and the price of the haircuts. Conheads is located on N. Howard Street, where parking comes in the form of parking meters, and is right across the street from Maryland General Hospital. Depending on when you go, cops do give violations for unpaid meters, so watch out. When I went here, the price of a regular haircut was $23. Depending on who you go to, that might be a lot. However, the price is usually based on other amenities offered such as free computer access, free snacks, water, wine, etc. The quality of service is what really matters, right? Make sure to make an appointment beforehand in order to avoid long wait times, especially on weekends. You can make them on their website or by calling the shop. There's also a massage therapist and manicurist that comes here as well. You would need to contact the shop to find out when they are available. I never got any these services here, so I cannot comment on the service. I would make a trip here if you're looking for a quality haircut and not too worried about price. read more

It was easy to make an appointment on line , the owner Mr.derrick was very very nice and made you feel very comfortably and was knowledgeable about hair in general. Was introduced to the various amintaties of the shop it made me feel like I was at a top shelf barbershop( I WAS). Shop was very clean and atmosphere was very relaxed. My haircut and shave with straight razor to the face came out perfect I was very pleased.This was defiantly an enjoyable experience and I plan on making an return trip . read more

Hello, I visited this barber shop because they took appointments and was impressed with the atmosphere. However, the barber (Derrick) did not pay attention to how much I wanted off (cut my hair way too short). He also gave me the worst fade / taper that I have ever had (barber does not know how to blend or fade...BEWARE). I also tried to call the shop to make an appointment and the phone was off (should have been a red flag as well as a website that had no samples of his work). I do not recommend this barber shop for any man that wants a decent fade or taper, especially when they charge $27 for a haircut. OVERPRICED and BAD! GO TO ANOTHER SHOP!!! read more

Worst haircut I ever got in addition to being ridiculously overpriced. I asked for a regular cut and got a trim instead. I asked the barber for a 1.5 and to keep it dark. I couldn't tell how much wasn't cut off because the lighting was so bad. He messed up my shape up and cut the hell out of me with the clippers. I got cut 4 days ago and have scrapes on my jaw line that looks like rug burn. Had to go to another barber and had him fix what he could. Ended up spending $55 to get my hair cut, $35 here and $20 at the other place. Wish there was a no star option. Save your self the trouble and stay away. read more
