I regret choosing to visit Dr. Watkin and sincerely hope the terrible experience I had is one other…read morepatients will never find themselves in. The communication, bedside manner, and level of patient care was absolutely awful - I hope in writing this review, I can warn others who are looking for an ophthalmologist that Dr. Watkins is NOT recommended. The doctor did not even say hello to my greeting or acknowledge me when he entered the patient room. The first thing he did upon entering the room was look at my chart, speak to the tech who was also in the room about the reason I was there and then proceeded to check my eyes on his machine - all without saying one word to me. He never asked me directly what problems I was having or what brought me into his office, instead he communicated with the technician. 9/10 times I asked a question, the technician answered - not the doctor, which was quite worrying in itself. If I had wanted a tech appointment, I would have scheduled an appointment with a tech, not a certified ophthalmologist. My reason to go to this doctor was to get a second opinion on a diagnosis provided by my optometrist. When I asked about a procedure that my optometrist recommended, Dr. Watkins and the tech agreed. However, when I asked Dr. Watkins if he agreed with the reason the optometrist said I needed the procedure, I sensed frustration from Dr. Watkins and he dismissed the reason without giving any feedback. When I further asked about the steroid eye drops my optometrist recommended in addition to the procedure, Dr. Watkins got up, angrily said "an optometrist is not a doctor" and walked out of the room as I was still asking my question!! All the while, the tech remained silent and did not condemn the manner in which Dr. Watkins spoke to me not did he try to reassure me. I asked the technician his opinion on what just happened as I was shocked a medical professional would make a patient feel so small and unimportant to which he replied shortly "The Dr. doesn't agree with your optometrist." It is NEVER acceptable for a medical professional or staff to treat a patient with such little respect simply for disagreeing with another medial opinion. The whole point of getting a second opinion is confirmation for a patient to have confidence in what they are being told. This is the WORST medical experience I have ever encountered. I strongly urge anyone to read past the positive reviews on here and take them with a grain of salt. Do not go here if you want to be treated with respect or feel comfortable. This doctor has no business providing care for patients.

Many mistakes were made by the office staff. First they insisted that they could not take me…read morewithout a referral. After a very long, very tedious phone conversation, my insurance company told me that was not the case. I had to have my insurance company call them and explain otherwise so that I didn't have another fruitless 30 minute debate with the office staff. Then they never mentioned I needed to bring my prescription with me to my first appointment. I had never seen an opthamologist before and didn't know I'd need it for the test I was getting. I was told that I wasn't informed about this as they didn't know I was a new patient and I explained that's something that should have been asked by the (at least) 4 different office staff with whom I spoke on the phone. Amy was very rude to me, raised her voice, and was argumentative even though it was their error. She should have apologized for my inconvenience. Lastly, if you are immune compromised/allergic as I am (or even if you're not), you may want to avoid anyway as there is toxic mold on ALL of the ceiling vents. It's visually quite obvious and the smell is horrendous. One of the staff said it is dirt. Let's say this is the case. Then shouldn't someone wipe it off? It is absolutely filthy. Photos attached if permitted.

So, I finally buckled down and started looking for an Optometrist. Most of my co-workers recommended here so my thoughts were "why not?". It was so easy to schedule an appointment here. The receptionist were always able to fit me in if needed. Everyone here is so friendly and quick. I never have a long wait to see the doctor or anything. The optical center is inside the doctor office. Martin is awesome! He will be honest with you when your picking out your glasses. He will also adjust your glasses to fit your face. Just overall great customer service and will tell you what you need and really don't need. He is the type that will be honest and not try to sell you something that you don't need. I like that type of person.

University of Houston Eye Surgery said everything I've been told about Opia Vision Center/aka Northwest Eye Associates on August 3rd 2026 has been false. Maybe they cleaned it before, I'm hoping/assuming. When I left the room, i noticed that after me, the technician did not clean the equipment and took the next customer in without cleaning or wiping down equipment. When I asked the doctor, she said should and do. I noticed the doctor did wipe down her equipment, but the instrument you use to cover your eye, I dont think that was ever cleaned. My friend who went there a couple weeks prior to me going there had the same concerns and voiced it to me, but I thought it was so prosperous that I didn't believe them. In this day and age with Covid and flu season, it's disgusting that they're not trying to protect their customers with wiping or cleaning their equipment between each customer. I'd never go back for unsanitary concerns.

Since then, the care has become less personalized and more generic. My new complaint is the new service charge of 2.5% when using a credit card. Supposedly it does not exceed their CC charge and does not apply to debit cards (which I used) but a CC charge is a cost of doing business for the convenience of your patients. This seems like a way to boost revenue and had me grumbling the whole time there. They also stopped taking AMEX which was another kicker. If it wasn't for Dr. Jhaveer and Debbie, I would be looking for another eye doctor.
