My friend has been going to Noreen so I thought I'd try her out since the lady that had done by balayage at Hoala Salon and Spa had left. Scheduling an appointment was a little difficult because of my crazy schedule but I finally got around to getting an appointment on a weekday at 4pm for a cut and balayage. Noreen did a great job explaining what she was going to do and after 3.5 hours my hair looked great! The balayage was what I was expecting and the cut was what I had asked for. Noreen also recommended using the Joico shampoo and conditioner they sell so I bought the set. Unfortunately the next day she told me that the transaction didn't go through and I had to go back to redo the transaction :( Besides that, Noreen was amazing! Setup hair color, style and cut appointment for a Sunday and the stylist no showed. I was scheduled for a tv interview the next day so she knew I wanted my hair to look great. I texted to make sure she was ok, but after 35 minutes I left with no response from her. She finally responded hours later sharing something came up and offered a free hair cut. I gave 2 stars (better than zero) as I know they are independent stylists, but at same time felt ownership and other independent stylists should know since it's such a poor reflection on the company and those associated. I had such a fantastic massage experience at their sister day spa, Indulge (5 stars!) just across the parking lot. Have been going here for a couple years and I am absolutely going to them for more years to come! It is a little pricey, but amazing quality and wonderful customer service is NEVER cheap! You 100% get your money's worth! I personally go to Jamie, Nam, Jennie, and Bryant but i'm confident to say that everyone and anyone you choose will do wonders to your hair. this is a long overdue review but I highly recommend going here. I was referred by a friend and I love how friendly the staff was. When I got my hair cut my hair was so long and dead. My hairstylist was Mai and she did a wonderful job giving me a soft layered hair cut in the back and explained it was better to subtly blend in rather than having a choppy hair. First I want to say that this salon is HIGH END, expect to pay A LOT if you're trying to go light. I had a really good experience with my stylist. She was super sweet and whatever questions I had asked her regarding my hair color or the process she would tell me. What I wasn't happy about is how my hair toned down. I wish they were able to compensate for how much I paid to get my hair done or at least fix it FOR FREE as I had already spent $450 on my hair. The pictures are the same day I came home to the salon and she did offer to fix it but I would have to pay for it full service. As a stylist would you let your client walk around with your head being two different colors??? She was amazing and always took care of my blonde hair. Since her departure, I started going to Nam. He does a great job and is very friendly. The place is super cute and the vibe is everything. The hairdressers are really nice, I'm just extremely bummed out about the end product. I originally wanted ginger hair with a blonde money piece and balayage (picture 1). I was in the salon from 9 AM to 5 PM and ended up with the second photo. I requested to be seen again since the blonde was super brassy and the color difference between my roots and the rest of my hair made it look like it was new-growth when it was literally dyed that day. I also received chemical burns from how long they left bleach on my scalp. The hairdresser was super accommodating to see to see me again immediately which I definitely appreciated. We then agreed to possibly save my hair and compromise with possibly meeting my original request by matching my money piece with the rest of my hair and attempt to dye it darker. Unfortunately my money piece came out bright orange (the third picture) with still a vast difference between my roots and the rest of my head. I obviously wasn't happy and it seemed like the hairdresser and her assistant were getting frustrated with me at this point. I was literally on the verge of tears accepting the fact I'm losing almost $450 and I'm definitely not going to receive what I originally wanted. I ultimately got a brown money piece and reddish brown hair with a dyed chemical burn (seen in picture 4). I really wanted this to work out but I'm not willing to take the chance of my hair/scalp health as well as my self esteem to possibly go through this again. read more

I have attached some pictures of my hair before, what I wanted, what I got, and what it looked like three weeks after. I asked for low maintenance because I can't come back every month to get my hair done. I wanted my roots to be pulled down into a blonde balayage. Obviously the outcome is a little different but I actually liked it but three weeks later it looks worse than it did before. I contacted the owner and she said she can give me more toner to darken it or a refund for what the toner cost which is like $60. That's honestly in my opinion very inconsiderate I spent $500 on this and I'm a mom that doesn't get to go out much so what a waste. Hands down an amazing salon! I booked a last minute haircut with Chaz at JV Salon this morning. She texted me before my appointment so that she could get an idea of what my hair currently looked like and what I was looking for in a fresh cut. She was completely AMAZING! Listened to everything I asked for and she threw in her suggestions and I absolutely love how my hair came out. Price wise, I can only comment on a haircut, but it was completely affordable. Took 5 1/2 hours for a trim and half a head of highlights. Should not take more than 3-4 hours from past experience at other salons. I wanna thank Kimberly for being the sweetest hairstylist ever. I showed up late to my appointment due to GPS sending me to the wrong location, and being new to Hawaii I'm still struggling to find places. I called the receptionist twice and she was so nice and patient with me and tried leading me to the right location, after so much struggle I finally found the location, even though I was 30 mins late they were very understanding and still took me in! I was desperate for a trim, it's hard finding a new spot to trust with your hair when you move, I didn't anticipate the damage the sun and beach water would do to my hair. My ends were dried and bleached from the sun, I needed a cut pronto. Kimberly didn't just treat my hair as a simple trim, she explained every detail she was doing for my short hair and explained ways she would cut it so it was easy to straighten and style. So this is my 2nd visit here. I had a haircut the first time and it was done exactly as the picture I showed. The stylist was good, but I guess the cut wasn't what I imagined in my mind. Not the stylist fault. Anyway, I let my hair grow out maybe 6 or 7 months and I was ready to get my hair done again. My daughter wanted to trim out the dead ends from her long hair and get bangs (new year, new look). We got Janie to do her hair. My daughter was so very pleased with the outcome that I decided to go with her for my cut and color. Janie is so accommodating and super nice. I was her first appointment on a weekend and I totally felt comfortable with her. I have a sensitive scalp and I forgot to tell her about it until after she added the coloring product in my hair. She asked if it was bothering me and it didn't. So she continued. I have to say with the at home coloring boxes, if it's in my head for longer than 15 minutes it starts to sting and itch. Well, whatever they use at the salon, I had no problem with it at all. I can't say enough about how good Janie is! Not only did she did a wonderful job with my hair, her customer service was top notch. I began to cough and instead of ignoring it, she offered me water and a cough drop (which helped stop the coughing). I was concerned about doing a drastic change with highlights she recommended something and I went with that instead. I'm glad I did too. It looks great. Wish I had a before picture, but trust me, my hair was drab and in need of a little TLC and an updated look. She's really good at responding to texts too. People wanting BLONDE- PLEASE READ! My favorite hairdresser left island so I tried JV Salon and if I could give this salon a negative star review, I would. White, fine hair girls wanting BLONDE hair do not go here! They misrepresent themselves on their Instagram accounts so don't make your decision based off it like I did, they do not know blonde hair and fucked up my natural blonde hair so bad. I sat in their chair from 10am-5:30pm for just a balayage and cut. I've never sat in salon that long for some blonde highlights. They had my whole head bleached and root shadowed and toned and after that my hair turned out grey brown THEN she told me to just go home and wash it a few times??? I asked if she could fix it cause that wasn't what I asked for at all and obviously if I'm paying I want it to look how I asked... They then bleach washed it and toned it again. All I asked for was Ashy/beige tones with a money piece and they reassured me they could do it. Now my hair has more roots then when I came in, yellow/orange???? And a destroyed dry bottom from my previous bleached when specifically said "please do not put bleach on the ends. They're light enough and damaged" At the end of the day when I said my hair feels destroyed/dry, my cut butchered, I told them I wasn't happy in the most sweetest way I possibly could with literal tears in my eyes- and all they did was take $50 off my total for the toner used. And they even had an attitude about it instead of empathy and professionalism, the hairdressers assistant was even talking on the phone rolling her eyes at me saying "how pissed she is". I paid nearly $350 for my hair to look AND feel horrible. I should be pissed! I don't write reviews but this whole experience was horrible and would like to help any one else not go through that. The environment was extremely unprofessional, there was no solution for me or my hair, and young immature girls doing hair with absolutely no understanding of blonde hair! Pictures are of my hair now and pictures of what I showed them I wanted my hair to look. I literally showed them a pictures of MY OWN hair when my old hairdresser would balayage me. Save your money, you can go to someone better for a little less and have amazing results. This review is specifically for Mai-Lyn. Yes, she does beautiful work and she's great at what she does. But, on a couple appointments she had "assistants" do her work. I spend 5 hours in the chair. Mostly unattended too. After bleaching my hair, she took on multiple clients at the same time. In that time I had 3 different girls working on my hair. Also, I wasn't given a "money piece" although it was requested. I will not be going to her anymore. I spend $500 on my hair plus a tip. It's not worth it. There are more hair stylist that are willing to give you time and effort for that price. read more

I went to JV Salon for the first time and saw Senior Stylist Jamie. She was extremely kind and realistic about how light I could get in one session while keeping the integrity of my hair. I really appreciate that because I know a lot of stylists wouldn't be upfront about that. Her and her assistant Leesa took their time to make sure that I'd be happy with the outcome. They even gave me product recommendations without being pushy about it at all. They told me what I could expect in my next session and gave me tips on how to maintain my color in the meantime. I tried to like this place. I went to get my hair done with a certain stylist. Oh boy!... I totally regret having services done there. My hair was red and was untouch for several months. So I decided for once to try balayage. She told me she would need to do color correction and then the balayage. I trusted her and put my hair in her hands. I was hesitant to do it just because I've never bleached my hair before. The first time she did the color correction i paid around 250. She had a hard time doing the color correction so she wanted me to rest my hair and come back in 4-6 wks. I was told not to wash my hair for about 2-3 days. Once I washed my hair I notice my hair so dry and brittle. I felt like my hair was just falling off. When I would run my fingers through my hair I could feel strands breaking. Didn't think anything of it because I still was trusting the stylist. The second time around was another color correction because she couldn't get the rest of the red out and balayage, I paid around 250 again. I did mention to her the experience that I was having when I washed my hair. She said that would be normal. Trusting her I said okay. We continued to color my hair. I did notice she seemed like she was having a hard time with my hair. Still trusting her, I let her finish the whole process. I did notice that she was having a hard time when I came out to blowing out. I felt a lot of tugging. I was again informed to avoid washing my hair for 2-3 days.. When I washed my hair after the recommended 3 days, it was terrible. Half of my hair was so brittle that strands were breaking off. There was so much breakage that I was worried I was going bald! I was regretting everything. I contacted the owner of the salon and was informed that they don't do refunds and if I did have a problem with my hair they have a 48 hour policy. ( Mind you the hairstylist informed me not to wash my hair for 2-3 day) and I was not informed about their policy. I went to another salon to get my hair looked and she was shock to see my hair. My hair was so damaged and thereso much breakage she felt bad and cut my hair with a discount. I have reach out to the hairstylist that messed up and hair and all she could say was sorry and to come in for treatment and she will give me advice and products to try to fix the damage. I declined the offer just because I have lost my faith with her. She did offer to get me my refund back. After that respond no more response after that. I will be contacting the BBB to inform them. Being a busy mom and hardly making time to do anything for myself, it was time to get my yearly haircut (sad, but true, I do this only once a year!). After much searching through Yelp, I found this place that I wanted to try out. Prices vary depending on who you choose to see. They range from new talent $ up to master stylist $$$. Located within Harbor Square (behind Goodwill and Cutter Ford Aiea), this place could be easily be missed if you are not familiar with the area. Walking in, I could tell right away they had their safety measures in place. They had the plexiglass partitions separating each chair, you get your temperature checked, and they have you sanitize your hands. My stylist was Mailyn and she did such an amazing job for both myself and my daughter. I cannot thank her enough. She very personable and made both my daughter and I feel right at home. We both did a wash, cut, and style. She took her time and made sure that the style & cut was what we wanted. I'm definitely going to go back and probably color my hair. Thank you Mai! read more

I really wanted to like this place! Thought I would give the stylist a chance since her ig was filled with great work! Number on ig is inaccurate so I did make appt through vagaro, their online scheduling system. That was simple enough. If I did have a question, it was hard to get through to the stylist. I hadn't done anything to my hair for three years so I wanted to try to go lighter. I haven't box colored my hair for years but I figured left over dye would be at the ends. First session was a color correction (around 280.00) where stylist bleached my hair to make my roots a lighter brown. Second session we tried to go lighter all over (around 230-250.00). Third session ombré was attempted (around 160.00) The pictures are after THREE sessions. I'm disappointment because there were so many bands on my hair with a very apparent line. Despite the work, I do think the stylist was very nice! Just not what I imagined to have after multiple sessions. I ended up getting it corrected by another salon--which I now love. read more

My first time here I got a hair cut and hi-lights. My hairstylist at the time was very nice. Fast forward to my second session as my hair grew I wanted to go back for balayage ombre. I showed her a picture of how I wanted my hair. I was confused at the end of my second session as I was charged for balayage but definitely walked out with hi lights. I tried to tell her the color was the same just added more hi lights. She said no. After speaking with who I thought was the owner about getting a refund, I was told all stylists are individual stylists and I have to talk to her about it. So ultimately I wouldn't get my refund and I'd have to go back to Black because my hair was just all kinds of colors! Jordy to the rescue! She texted me saying she could fix it for free. I was still hesitant as the previous stylists told me she bleached my hair twice in one day so I really didn't want to fry my hair. But nonetheless, I spent $$$ to get it done, I better get it done right! Jordy was very knowledgeable and explained what she would do and what we may come out with. She was very personable and very funny. Her massages during the rinse off was awesome! Although she came in today to fix someone else's work, her attitude throughout the 3 hours was so positive! I waited 2 months to leave this review so I can see how my hair grew. I want to preface by saying that I get my hair balayaged every year and I have NEVER had it turn out this way. I got my hair done with Stephanie before she moved and needless to say my hair does not blend in at all( the top is SUPER dark and the rest faded to light blonde, and not the nice blonde either), not to mention my hair ended up being super dry even after her terrible crooked haircut she gave me. Balayage should blend seamlessly and shouldnt look this bad. I completely understand that getting your hair done is expensive, but why am I getting charged extra just for my dark hair to blend in with the highlights?? Isn't that the whole point of balayage? Not to mention she had another stylist help her, which made me feel obligated to tip him as well. Overall, I'd skip this place unless you want to spend $500 and end up disappointed. Started coming here in Feb. to Elvin. His Instagram is @elvinsem . Most of the hair stylist here are by appointment only so no walk ins. Back in feb, heard about Elvin from Instagram as my friend was getting a haircut from him and I needed a new barber so I decided to try him out. He is really cool, great conversation yet he is very precise and cuts your hair effortlessly. Quick too, in and out of the chair in about half an hour. Parking can be tough tho as there's only couple spots reserved to JV salon, if there's no parking there you would have to park kind of a Ways out. read more

Update: tried to book an appointment to do a permanent color since I liked how the last one turned out. Couldn't book it through vagaro so I sent a text message only for them to tell me that because of my review, it was felt that this salon wasn't right for me, and so I'm no longer able to make appointments with them. That honestly shocked me because I was satisfied with the permanent color I got last time and wouldn't have mind doing it again.
