My new hobby: folding paper stars. After a filling dinner at Halu, I called Paper-tree in Japantown only to find out they were closed...@ 5:30 WTF! I saw this store while driving around for parking and decided to check it out. WHOA they sell the Winnie the Pooh $1 phone charms out of the machine! They come in packs of 8-10 and you have to buy the whole collection BUT the good thing is there's no surprises and you get the one you want...and everything else :P Below the cash rep is a basket full of the paper used to make stars (no solids...printed only and they're the bulkier stars, not the tiny pastel ones..but they're $0.99!) and tons of cute-shaped jars to put them in. It's a cute store to check out :) BEWARE shoplifters...you're picture will be posted on a door near the Hello Kitty section if you try any funny business. Looks like there is a change of ownership because they were heavily discounting and discontinuing a lot of the cute stuff. Still the stuff is nice. Why the downgrade? DH & the Kid was browsing through the toys and the Kid picked up a Bakgugan toy on sale for $3.99. DH, thinking this is a great opportunity to teach the Kid money, hands the Kid a $10 and told him to go up to the counter to pay for the Bakgugan. The Kid comes back w/ a bunch of coins for change. Uh hello, $10 - $3.99 = $6.01. Somebody either doesn't know how to do math or are out the punk babies. DH confronts the young clerk and she swears that the Kid handed her a $5. Yeah right, an adult, who gave that money to a child, can't differentiate between a $5 or a $10. We didn't get our money back. They may have a healthy distrust for the clientele but their hands aren't clean either. Cheating a child is a low blow. As DH says, "Bad Yelp them!" Bad jujus to you, JVD! This is a 4.7 stars review!! OMG I love this store because it has all sorts of Piyo Piyo stuffed animals, all sorts of sizes, outfits, gestures, AWWWWW... They carry many other stuffed animals too. It's a stuffed animals candy store... I have my first Xmas gift from my guy here that I get to hug at night lol... they gift wrapped it with clear plastic so I do not have to unwrap to know what my gift was, and I was also present at the store lol... They also carry tons of backpacks with different cartoon characters, from Disney to Hello Kitty, I think many are knockoffs but you can't really tell other than the little tag "Made in China" instead of Japan. The quality is very very good. And Most of all it's inexpensive. They also carry lots of household items like garbage cans, carpets, cups, chopsticks, lunch boxes, stationary, etc. with all those cartoon characters too! Like many other Chinese shops, they carry a good selection of car fresheners so if you need something to mask any stinky smell like gym clothes you should come and check this out! Cutesy poopsey store So indicative of the typical Asian "kawai" connotation. Mini, small, medium and xlarge turd plush dolls, Hello Kitty, Piyo Piyo, Kero Kero Keroppi......not all of them bearing the Sanrio label but Made in China tags. In addition to plush, they carry a wide range of ceramic pieces, car sanitizers, phone cards and lottery tickets. I also found my Afro-Ken here with the big poofy lime green hair, replete with two little red apples. At the end of my checkout, the lady who rang me up gave me a free little good luck charm. Outside of the store, I freed the plush Afro-Ken out of the plastic wrappings and some guy in a car parked at the curb sticks his head out of the window. "What's that, a little gremlin?" read more

While wife gets her hair done, the three of us sashayed ourselves through the radius between Sixth and Ninth Ave. on Clement St. We landed at this cornered gift and toy store, which is located on the northwest side of the strip. This cute little gift store sells kid's stuff from Hong Kong. Among the popular items are Hello Kitty and his hilarious gang, that blue-cat and Pi-yo Pi-yo. They also sell figurines and other accessories. This place is definitely a shopping paradise for younger kid and highly without a doubt outrageously too cute for my taste. Other than the cute kid's stuff, they also do messenger service from Western-Union, lotto, and sells cigarettes. With these three offered services and selling kid's stuff, it's kind of a bad omen. The kids can easily spend the whole day at this location. Amazingly, nothing seems to interest them at this time, but will definitely be back and check out more new items on a later day. Ok....I admit it and foolishly bought a pair of the popular Pi-yo Pi-yo slippers for me to wear. The fuzzy footwear has the duck's head on top of my toes regularly costs $10.00 and is currently on sale for $6.00. My size-11 foot fits perfectly in those cute-ass pair of slippers and relieves me from my daily work-boots and running shoes. For the upcoming Yelp-elite event, does anybody dare me to wear those cute and fuzzy slippers? read more

If you love Honey B tea house, you're going to loooooooooove JVD Global, possibly even more. It's a Hello Kitty world in here for the most part. That's the first thing that grabs your attention. The next section towards the back is dedicated to....gadgets and decorations for your rice rocketmobile....stuff that looks cute but does absolutely nothing to enhance the performance of your car (including air fresheners that have artificial chemicals in it, stickers, knobs for the car knob). And in the very back? Even more cutesy animal, kiddie and grown up adult kiddie wannabe random things. When you exit the back section of the room, one cannot help but notice the handwritten signs of shoplifters beware. By the cashier, one can see other random things....what looks to be lottery scratch ticket type things. Looks more like a general store to me. The biggest item in the store? The giant sized Hello Kitty stuffed doll in here on the top shelf closer to the entrance, that's bigger than a Pomeranian. ~$150 to $180 is my estimation. These you can find pretty easily in various shopping arcades in Mongkok area of Hong Kong, but in SF? I think this might just be the place. Looking for HK themed stationary and trinkets? This shop has it too. Even Hello Kitty Chinese New Year packets, although at a x2 to x3 markup compared to Hong Kong. Really disappointing... My entire family has been coming here since they opened. Last month, I purchased a cell phone battery, which does not hold a charge. (As with many other Yelp followers, I really try to patronize small local shop to help) When I went back to try to explain the problem, the owner simply said that I kept it too long and he could not take it back. I told him that I no longer lived close-by, and perhaps he could simply give me store credit. He did not budge and simply said that he couldn't do anything. Or to extend a courtesy to a long time customer. How can a store mislead and sell a cell phone battery that must have been used as new, that simply doesn't work and then not back up the product? All I can say that after visiting the store dozens of times over the past decade that they have lost a decent good customer forever. They would rather keep the $16 from the fraudulent sale than to show the goodwill to keep a long-time customer. Hate to post such negative reviews, but I felt obligated to warn potential customers of the risks in patronizing this store. Really, Caveat Emptor. read more

They have a lot of cute things !! From piyo piyo (the yellow duck) to Monokuro Boo (pig that comes in all black or white) to other cute characters . They even have a little sanrio section the back . They sell car air freshners , wallets , clocks , oversized stuffed animals , etc . Pretty much , anything you get here is useless . But you got to give them props for selling such cute stuff . This is a good place to go to get a gift for a little one . Definitely better than Rainbow Station and Sanrio . read more

I've shopped here several times and had no problem, until now. The lighter plug on my GPS device broke so I went to JVD to see what I could get to replace it. I brought the cord with me to show them. The end that plugs into the device is a special shape so I didn't expect the exact same cord. The guy said they did have the exact same cord but when he showed it to me it was just a generic one. Only the plug was the same. I of course pointed this out and he said I could just cut it and attach the "two wires" to the existing cord. He said if it didn't work I could return it for a refund. I had to ask for a receipt. I attempted to attach the wires but as it turned out the original cord has three wires. I went to return it and the (same) guy refused saying that it was cut (as he suggested). He also claimed that it didn't need the three wires attached, only two. He said the third wire was a ground wire and wasn't needed. I told him I wasn't willing to risk burning out my GPS. His response was that it was my problem! The cord he sold me was just over $7 but all he did was argue and lie about what he said. He refused to refund my money. If this is the kind of service you find acceptable then shop there. Yes, the place has some interesting items and a lot of electronics at ok prices but the guy I dealt with wasn't honest and unconcerned with how to deal with the customer. Like many a reviewer I would like to grant no stars. read more

Terrible customer service. Went there to collect a UPS package and was told they don't deliver on Saturdays (this was on a Friday mind you). I showed them the email I had received from UPS and they couldn't find my package. I ended up calling UPS customer service while in the store and the shop attendant spoke to them saying it is a UPS problem and that the item will probably come on Tuesday. After 15 mins of back and forth he looked again and low-and-behold my package was actually there. Avoid this place! read more

They do have some cute little things in here (accessories and all), but the staff are not very nice at all. This lady keeps not only AN EYE on me but THREE EYES (if she had them). LIKE DAMN, I'm not some little kid who's gonna steal!! And then I'm not so sure if these other two teenage girls who work there were talking about me, but it was extremely rude (no matter who they were talking about). They said in Chinese, "how could she even buy something like that"? As in.. thats garbage.. why would she buy that?! I love coming here for my beauty products. They carry a few selections of Innisfree & TONYMOLY, but my favorite part is always getting samples! the prices for the beauty supplies are reasonable, but usually a little more expensive than what you find online. A trade off to getting it immediately, or finding the perfect gift for someone last minute, which this place is also great for. read more
