Stayed here the week of January 20th 2018 for reference. I am giving 1 star for location and 1 star for the lobby but that's all I can give... sorry but it's just not worth anything above 2 stars. My room smelled of sewage and bleach so there was obviously a toilet issue prior to my arrival... YUCK! The lobby bar is fine but the food is pretty lame. Stayed here for a wedding over a weekend as the reception was held right across the street. The staff and service were top notch, check-in and check-out was a breeze. The rooms themselves are updated: clean, comfy beds, new TV's, and beautiful bathroom amenities. Certainly one of the nicer Chicago hotels i have stayed at. The hotel is in a great central location as well. For value, i am not sure standard rates as i booked under the wedding block, but for the price it couldn't be beat. Great experience and will make this my go to hotel for future Chicago trips. read more

I am infuriated by my experience here. Be aware - even if you call in advance to notify them that you'll be arriving late (while also calling to get cribs in your room for your two kids under 2), they will still give your room away if they feel like it. I flew from California w my two girls and as I was landing, got a voice mail from the hotel confirming that I was still coming. I called back and told them I was still coming and the operator assured me it was just to confirm. The front desk called me again 20 minutes later (because when is a better time to call than when you are deplaning w your two small children and all of the things?!). I called back only to be told by the Front Desk Manager that he had some "unfortunate news" and I no longer had a room. Miraculously, there was an HVAC problem that put the single room for me and my family out as when I was rebooked to the much trashier Marriot location, we seemed to be the only family displaced there due to this coincidental inconvenience. I would hope that at the very least my room is free, gee thanks. But my new hotel is a complete dump, gee thanks, and it took an hour to get our cribs after we arrived at 1 am. If I wanted to stay at an airport hotel, I would have. Don't ever book this place because even a room booked weeks in advance will be given up. read more

Great location but don't expect any customer service or favors from them . Spent over $1000 here in last 2 nights ..asked for a late check out. $200 they wanted as we are going to a game and our flight is directly after forecast is for 25mph winds and heavy rain . We wanted to shower freshen up and go airport. Ok fair enough $200 is what it is . Asked could I at least use fitness center to warm up and shower . They refused too, guess we're going home soaked wet for our 4 hour flight . Awesome . read more

I am a big fan of the JW line by Marriott so when I found this location before my trip to Chicago it was a no brainer with the booking. And of course, it lived up to my high expectations. Room was incredibly clean and modern/contemporary looking. Bathroom was awesome on the inside too. Definitely going to return when I'm back in town! read more

Had the pleasure of staying in a corner suite. Entry, nice sized living room and bedroom. Huge bath with two large separate vanity/sink areas and big soaker tub as well as multi-shower head walk in shower. Second half bath off of living room. Furnishings and detail in the room were very high quality. Quite a luxurious experience; one of the nicest hotel rooms I've stayed in through many travels. Staff was consistently prompt and friendly, whether room service, extra blanket, or even helping connect tablet to living room tv (which involved messing with connections behind the tightly wall mounted tv). Warning about the executive lounge - it is RIDICULOUSLY PACKED for breakfast in the mornings. It's a nice lounge but they are letting WAY too many people in. Was the same each of the three mornings there. One morning I finally just gave up and went to a nearby Starbucks. Executive lounge breakfast is not the perk that you think it is. I only knocked them down from five star for not finding a way to handle executive lounge capacity. Otherwise, it's quite a nice hotel. read more

My family and I decided to come downtown for Christmas this year and chose JW Marriott. Our stay has been absolutely fantastic, the front desk clerk Jonathon was so accommodating and very informative! He even ran to elevator us these extremely cute Santa chocolates. Our suite was absolutely stunning one of the nicest suites I've ever been in. The executive lounge had great snacks and the lady working there went out of her way to make sure everyone had everything they wanted. We will definitely be back for another staycation hopefully in the summer. The staff we have encountered here have made me love the hotel so much more. Good job HR! read more

Wonderful experience at Chicago began and ends at JW Marriott. Arrived Thursday 5am at Ohare Airport arrived 6am at the JW Marriott. We had requested early check in and anticipated that we wouldn't be able to have a room till afternoon. We thought we would leave our luggage at the front desk while tour around town. The front desk folks we so nice and accommodating and found us a room on the 12 floor with access to the executive lounge on that same floor. Wow! So we checked our room and breakfast at the executive lounge and took a nap! Now refreshed we were able to enjoy our day in Chicago. The concierge was very helpful during our entire stay. They provide us tour information and dining options. The lobby lounge was one of the dining options we had during our stay. We had a late lunch and didn't want to venture out on the afternoon rain. The shared house salad and burnham burger was perfect. FYI medium burger came more on the rare side. The wedding we were there for at the JW Marriott was beautiful. They did a wonderful job transforming the venue from ceremony to reception. What a wonderful place to hold a wedding. read more

I had a pleasant stay at the JW Marriott last month. We were in town for a wedding. The interior was very nice and the check in process was easy and quick. Our room was nice besides a really old, beat up fridge being in the center of the wall by the window. They have discounted self parking nearby as well. read more

We had pretty nice staycation for Valentine's Day. This is fairly old style traditional, even classic, luxe hotel in the heart of the Loop, close to Union Station, Financial District, Millennium Park and other "go to places" in downtown. Got early check in, and upgraded to very nice and spacious suite, as Marriott Platinum Member. Service was good throughout. Well, of course a lot of stuff is closed due to COVID, including Lounge. Florentine is pretty spot for breakfast and lunch, but the food options are limited, and somewhat mediocre. The pool experience was downright bad, once again, due to COVID regulations. Even after making required reservation for 1 hour slot, we couldn't enjoy the pool. It wasn't our idea to share the pool with a bunch of very noisy kids, even without COVID. Other than that, absolutely no complaints! Recommend for both leisure and business travelers, especially if moderately priced. read more

I have stayed at the JW Marriott Chicago multiple times over the years and the experience has always been a good one. The hotel is nice and has a very classic luxury feel, however some of the decor and rooms are beginning to show their age. Although I've never been blown away over the years (hence 4 stars instead of 5) I absolutely will continue staying here when traveling to Chicago and defiantly recommend giving it a try if you're in town. read more

This was an awesome venue. JW Marriott hosted a commercial real estate conference that I And about 600 other investors and professionals attended. Meeting rooms, where just the right size with large screen projectors and the sound was of good quality. It was a two day event where we had breakfast and lunch each day. It was all buffet style and worked out well. I really remover the vegan tortilla soup, amazing with a little bit of a punch to it and very flavorful. The deserts were addictive but small enough where you didn't feel too guilty. At the end of the first day they festered an open bar networking event, that was pretty cool with some top shelf stuff along with beer and wine. I'd recommend this venu. read more

I'm pretty sure I've been to weddings (or at least a party) at every venue in Chicago. I've seen a zillion ballrooms and the ones at the JW Marriott are one of the more impressive ones, especially the Burnham Ballroom. So if you're planning a wedding this is a 5 star + venue. And from everything I've heard from my in-laws they were fabulous to work with. We also had the pleasure of staying here at the JW Marriott during my sister-in-law's recent wedding. I had visited the JW Marriott for other occasions in the past and was impressed by the architecture, gorgeous lobby, etc..and couldn't wait to check out the rooms. If you're traveling for business the JW Marriott is an ideal location. The rooms are comfortable and relatively large by city standards (especially the suite we stayed in).The in the loop location is also ideal for most business travelers. If you're on vacation you'd probably be happier elsewhere. It's probably comparable to the Ritz and Four Seasons in Chicago, but then again I don't find either of those to be the ideal vacation spots in the Windy City. Instead I'd recommend the Peninsula or Waldorf Astoria. And if you happen to be traveling with little ones the JW Marriott isn't for you. It turns out they don't have cribs here for the rooms; instead they expect you to put your children in their pack n play. That worked just fine for my (at the time) 5 month old, but it was comical to think my 2 1/2 year old would sleep in a pack n play. I also had to call the front desk several times to ask for the pack n plays. Since I spent most of the day busy with bridesmaids duty I put my nanny on list for my room (when I checked in) so that she could take the kids up when they arrived. However, when she arrived they didn't let her up to the room...and it took 3 phone calls to fix the situation. Sooo if you're looking to get married or travel for business you can't go wrong w/ the JW. But if you're looking to take a vacation or have little ones in tow (which all us parents know is NOT a vacation) fortunately Chicago has many other options for you. read more

Beautiful hotel, lovely rooms and very attentive genuinely personable staff! Everything is up to date and our experience was pretty good, just not worth $520 for 2 nights + $15/day internet + $50/day parking + $24 continental breakfast + 1 hour pool reservation slots that are hardly possible to book. I know people are still very hyped up about covid, especially in the cities, but we were told prior to reserving that the hot tub would be open and then was closed abruptly during our stay. Other than that, enjoy modern rooms, blackout curtains, soaking tub, tv with tons of channels, refrigerator, nice coffee maker and in-room safe. (no microwave). There were barely any blankets and when they brought more up they were also very thin. Pricey but gorgeous welcoming spa on the lowest level. Would I come again? It's very close to the hot spots in Chicago and maybe if we were assured there would be no random extra costs...but it wasn't completely worth it this time. If you have some extra money to spend, book a room and a spa service and see for yourself! read more

But its near the business district.. not the shopping area (FYI for out of towners) Parking was seamless at the valet as it should be for $60 or whatever a night :) Only complaint was that we went to the little market thing to get some snacks.. Nice and spacious urinals, and the stalls have ceiling-to-floor doors! It's almost like taking a dump in a walk-in closet. Stayed here the other night and this hotel is really nice. Went downstairs to grab some food and drinks. Such a cute place to hang out! Love how everything here is made fresh including all the ingredients in the drinks. Ordered the turkey club which was pretty disgusting to me. But the lobster roller was amazing!!!! So some of the employees are insanely nice, but I had a very exasperating experience here. I left my keys in the hotel room, which I realized a few hours after checking out when I got home and couldn't get in my apartment. I called and spoke to a facetiously caring person in Lost Recovery (I think his name was Jason) who said nothing was found. I called back everyday for a week just in case (because I was certain I left them in my room), and finally Jason basically told me to stop calling and said they would call me if they found anything. A month later I stopped by the hotel because I was in the area, and lo and behold my keys were found the day I checked out by the gentleman who cleaned my room and were in a neatly labeled bag with my room number. He said Jason was his supervisor and filing a complaint would be futile. The whole experience was an insulting and an unnecessary waste of time, and entirely attributable to incompetence and/or negligence. read more

We hosted an event here and also have stayed in the rooms. The hotel itself is beautiful -- especially the areas that have been recently renovated. The event staff (sales, overall event planning, and day-off staff) were all phenomenal to work with and did a great job ensuring the event ran smoothly. The rooms are what you would expect from a Marriott property -- clean, consistent, comfortable. Overall a great place to stay in Chicago and a great place to host an event. read more

One of the nicest hotels in the loop. The inside is beautiful, bright, and wide open. The rooms are spacious with a lovely bathroom. Concierge lounge was also wonderful. Staff, particularly in the morning, were extremely friendly and cheerful. I loved greeting them each day. My room was quiet, the front desk staff was friendly, and I had zero issues staying here. Gym is large and well furnished. Loved the separate stretching room. My only little beef was the valet staff. Moved pretty slow in my opinion (took 20 minutes to get my car at noon on a Wednesday). The level of service and attention to detail by both the exec lounge and room cleaning staff is impeccable. Love that they turn down the sheet and leave a mint at bedtime. Spent the night at this beautiful hotel with my wife when we were in town for my sister's baby shower. We had the corner suite, room 1019, facing the Willis Tower. On average, I spend about 100 nights each year in Marriott properties for work and JW Marriott consistently is my favorite marque to spend a night. Our room had a beautiful bathroom with a large terrazzo shower. The king size bed was covered with large, soft pillows. Everything was clean. The houndstooth pillows are also a nice touch. We ordered late night room service of the basics, cabernet for her, a Sierra Nevada for me, a cheese plate, and the seared Ahi Tuna salad with quinoa. Everything tasted excellent. We also took advantage of the complimentary breakfast on the executive floor. It could have used a protien (bacon, sausage, or turkey patties) as well as bagels, but there were juices, scrambled eggs, croissants, and fruit. The highlight, for me, was the espresso machine. I made a black-eye for breakfast and a red-eye to go! Staff was friendly and we were even asked where we were from ("Well, Chicago, but we live in St. Louis currently.) This is an excellent property if you are in Chicago. Valet is expensive at $60 per night, but otherwise, you'll be pleased. read more

Meh!! Yep, just meh! The room was nice enough, the breakfast that was included was OK, but the carpet was just bizarre. I'm not sure if they picked it to hide the fact that they don't clean it very often or it's just dirty. You would think that for $200 a night you might get your room tidied, your bed made, the trash picked up and your towels changed. But no, no service, and in fact when we called the desk they weren't surprised that no one had been to our room that day.We had to ask for clean towels. The hotel is very close to the Loop so it's very convenient if you're coming in and out of midway airport. Unless you get a super deal on a room here I would say pick someplace else. We won't be coming back. read more

Great business travel experience. I stay at Marriotts very regularly and was pleasantly surprised at how well located and upscale this property is. The room itself was elegant, but I really appreciated the premium bathroom (big bathtub! tv built into the mirror!), Netflix access on the tv, and quality room service. I also loved that there were so many stores and restaurants nearby. When traveling without a car, sometimes it's impossible to get to something as basic as a Walgreen's, but there were lots of food and retail options. This is definitely my new fave hotel when I'm in Chicago. read more

Not sure if I've ever given 5 stars and I wasn't necessarily "excited" to come to Chicago as I was on a week long business trip. The hotel was a pleasant surprise! The bed had nice linens and was comfortable without the typical hole in the middle. The blackout curtains were excellent! I couldn't tell a difference in darkness when my eyes were open or closed. I love Love LOVe to sleep in pitch black rooms. The bar food (same as room service) was excellent. The grilled chicken Caesar had fresh ingredients, shaved parm and warm chicken breast. The wine was served at the correct temperature and the servers were professional and very attractive. The food served as part of my convention/group events was just as good. Fresh salads, grilled vegetables. Really good food. They also provide guests as much complimentary water as you like. This was a great experience and I will return. read more

Definitely the best hotel in the Loop. Everything about the place is gorgeous. The lobby and bar area were very clean and the staff was friendly and accommodating. Our room was super nice - had a huge tub and shower, the bed was very comfortable, and there was a lot of closet space. The pool and workout area were my favorite part of our entire stay. There is an indoor pool and hottub just past the gym, I say gym because it was a full on gym. They had squat racks!! What hotel ever has squat racks?! I got a great workout in and then was able to sit and enjoy the pool and hottub. My eyes were burning after being in there for about 20 minutes (chlorine) but it was definitely worth it. If you're feeling extra bougie, they also have a beautiful spa. The cheapest thing in there was about $75 for a manicure, so if you have money to blow, go for it! My final note - VALET PARK. Valet parking is about $70. When we got there, we weren't able to get valet because there weren't any attendants. We ended up parking at the parking garage across Adams street and ended up paying $90 because we were there for over 24 hours -__- read more

This is truly a sub-par Marriott hotel. I booked the Executive Level for a 4 night stay (Thursday-Monday). This was expensive but I was granted access to the Executive Lounge. When I arrived, I asked if there was a difference between the Executive Lounge and the regular Marriott Lounge. They said yes. I went to the Executive Lounge Friday morning for breakfast and there were over 40 people in there. I asked someone if they were staying on my floor and they said "No, my parents are a member I just used their name." This was the case with a dozen others. No one stayed on the Executive Floor and still they had access. Therefore, I paid an extra $200/night for Executive Level Treatment and anyone whose parents are members, get access. Also, I am a Platinum Elite Member (130+ nights last year), and no one thanked me for my membership nor recognized my profile. I have it arranged for a King Bed with Extra Towels. No extra towels were given and when I called down for more, they sent me 3 bath mats. That was cool. Also, the rooms are terrible. The floors are dirty and the TV has a Bluetooth system that does not get louder than a cell phone speaker. The TV in the bathroom mirror is cool but only has 3 basic cable channels and the TV remote doesn't work. TO BOOT - my flight got cancelled and I had to rebook a hotel (I chose the Blackstone Autograph Collection) and THIS HOTEL WAS HEAD AND SHOULDERS ABOVE THE JW!!!! AND CHEAPER!!! STAY @ THE BLACKSTONE AND DON'T STAY AT THE JW. TRUST ME. read more

This is the best hotel in the Loop/Downtown Chicago hands down. I stayed here every week for over a year (200+ nights) while traveling for work and can't say enough good things about it. The staff here is the best I've ever encountered, everyone from the lobby bartenders to the front desk management to the lounge staff - seriously first class. The hotel itself is beautiful, smells great, and the rooms are clean and comfortable. The gym/spa is massive and by far the biggest I've ever used at a hotel (it's like a mini LA Fitness) and was a huge plus for me. Best stocked/maintained lounge I've seen (including RC's) and the people working in there make you feel welcome. I could go on and on about how many times the staff were accommodating or went over and above to help me out, but it'd be a really long review. All I'll say is that they did their best to make it feel like home whenever they could: baked me cookies on my birthday, got buttons sewn on a shirt before work one morning in a pinch, even went out and bought me a replacement shaving kit when I had lost mine while traveling. As someone who stays in a hotel just about every single week, that's all you can ever ask for. The JW Chicago has my business for life. read more

Don't waste your money on the spa. My wife had a pedicure . Chair was not a massaging chair. They also put her feet to soak in a bow of warm water. No jets. Gratuity was figured into the bill so no choice in the matter. Not happy at all. The valet took 25 Min to bring our vehicle around so we called a Uber instead. Beds were below average . Had a better nights sleep at the Hilton. I wouldn't recommend them . read more

Stayed here during our trip to Lollapalooza this year, just a 10 minute walk to to Grant Park. If you're considering a hotel for your stay during Lolla then I would recommend this hotel. The rooms were pretty average, nothing really stuck out as quirky or unique. Think the style can be best described as contemporary with a touch of old school sophistication. The reel of JWM hotels across the world made me want to travel around the world, so that was a plus :) read more

I'm a little hesitant to give the JW a full 5 stars because it has extremely overpriced items (I'm not even talking about room rates) just simple stuff like a coffee from the bar which was $5 plus tax (and tip). The fact that it has no pool also counts against it. Regardless of that though, I still feel like the premium prices you dish out here are going to be worth it. It's a beautiful building, a good location since Quincy (the CTA stop) is in the Loop and serves mutliple lines (unlike hotels in the Magnificent Mile area) and it's not a far walk to Millenium Park either. The JW fits perfectly in my mind on how a classic hotel should feel like, nice uncompromising space in the marble filled Lobby (along with free WiFi down here) and friendly staff. The rooms are not huge (our double queen bedroom here looked smaller than the equivalent room we had in the Renaissance) but the washroom's are large with a massive mirror to accommodate the "couples" sinks and nice big standing showers. Me being me was also a big fan of the fact that you get an abundance of channels on the TV including a few good movie channels (on most fancy hotels you lack the option of multiple movie channels). Everything in the room screams comfort and luxury. Beware you don't pick up anything from the mini bar unless you plan on using it because after the 60second grace period the system will already charge that item to your room thanks to their motion senses. Overall though, this is a great hotel to stay at if you want luxury and I highly recommend it. Other things to note: The hallways are narrow and don't offer a lot of sound proof capabilities. My company's national sales meeting was held here in January. The hotel is in a landmark building designed by Daniel Burnham. They did a really nice job updating the hotel so it maintained the integrity of the original design. The rooms were really nice with all the luxuries you could want. For a downtown hotel, the room was larger than expected. The bathroom was magnificent, with separate tub and shower and large well appointed vanity. There were two beds in the room, and a wonderful view of Chicago. The meeting rooms were very well designed and were easily reconfigured to meet our needs. The food served was quite good and offered lots of variety. So good, we're already planning to do our 2015 meetings there. read more

I recently stayed at the JW Marriott in Chicago on Adams street. What a great hotel! I travel a lot and this was one of the nicest places I've ever experienced. Beautiful and thoughtfully done, with the largest individual tub I've ever seen in my life! Lovely sloping back; great for relaxing and reading. Loved the art work. Loved everything about it. And the staff are phenomenal. From Peter at the front desk who helped problem-solve for me to the fabulous Andrew in In Room Dining, who treated me with treats, kindness and good cheer, all the staff I encountered were amazing. One of the things I most appreciated was that nothing felt "scripted and canned" as you experience so often anymore. Every friendly greeting and kindness felt wholly sincere. I think these are people who really like people and like their jobs at this great hotel. It was wonderful! read more
