We were in town briefly for a wedding, and the JW Marriott was our hotel of choice. While not luxury, the hotel was very nice and comfortable, and the location was central to our wedding happenings. Everything was great until I checked out and discovered that I had been charged $88 per night for parking. That was quite unexpected. I had been in Chicago just a few months earlier and had paid $55 at the L7 Hotel. So I was shocked that the JW could charge so much. How is their valet parking better than the valet parking at the L7? I realize now that had I been traveling alone, and not with my family, it would have been cheaper to fly to Chicago, than drive the 4.5 hours from Ohio. Apparently the hospitality industry hasn't caught on to the current affordability crisis, or at least Marriott hasn't. read more

I typically stay here when I can while in Chicago, especially when the weather is bad, since it's a three-block walk from my office. Check in is quick, rooms are fine (and clean), and the executive lounge is nice. I was warned about eating in the bar on the first floor, which I hadn't done in a few years, but it was getting late, and the weather stunk. I saw friends in the bar area, so I took root at the table nearby. Service was fine, and I enjoyed a few of the Amber bee on draft. The menu looked good, and I ended up with a steak fried rice bowl. The steak was gross. It didn't even look like steak that should be served. It was fatty and tasteless. I ate less than 1/2 the rice and 1/3 of the steak. I wasn't starving, so it wasn't a huge deal, but those who told me to avoid the bar area for food were right. read more

An excellent bathroom experience. Really loved how the bathroom stalls go all the way to the floor, something you just can't take for granted especially in America. Definitely would have appreciated some hooks though in the stall, as I had to hang my backpack and coat on the handle, which inevitably unlocked it without my knowledge, whilst someone entered my stall and saw some unmentionables. Which is ironic because this story will definitely be mentioned. The atmosphere was nothing special but considering I had just walked off the street about to explode from some probably undercooked chicken from the night before, beggars certainly can't be choosers. I couldn't be more impressed with our stay at this hotel. I was here for two weeks, so it truly became a home away from home for a little while. From the very beginning, Kimberly at check-in was incredibly helpful, welcoming, and accommodating. What really made our experience exceptional, though, was Marlene. During our stay, she consistently went above and beyond to make sure we were well taken care of. My wife and kids were able to join me for part of the trip, and Marlene treated them with such warmth and kindness from day one. I had a great stay here for 3 nights in early February. This is a great property. Background: I stayed here with a few of my friends checking in on a Thursday for a 3 night stay. We were in town to watch The Warriors-Bulls game. Booked this kind of last minute as we had to cancel our other accommodations. Got a decent rate here as well. Location: Good location down in the Loop. CTA station right across the street. 711 right next store. Many restaurants, bars, and coffee spots close within walking distance. Room: We had a room with two queen beds. It wasn't super luxurious, but it clean and spacious. Definitely did the job. Great water pressure in the shower. Beds were comfortable. The Wifi worked great. Indoor Pool/ Hot Tub: Deal Breaker for me. I love having these amenities when traveling. Nice Pool and Hot Tub here. Took a soak each day to relax. Also they have a full service SPA on-site. Lobby Bar: I didn't partake in any of the restaurants, but I did have drinks each day in the Lobby Bar. The destination fee includes a credit each day , so we used it here. Great Drinks and service from the crew here. Highly Recommend stopping in. Service: Friendly Efficient service from all the staff here. Check-in was quick and easy. Final Thoughts: I really enjoyed my stay here. Everything was great. Located downtown within walking distance to the Riverwalk as well as other city landmarks, the JW Marriott was a beautiful hotel to stay in Chicago. I'm typically directionally challenged and it was easy for me to get to where I needed to be from this location. I stayed here for a recent work trip and I'll have to say that my room was one of the most spacious rooms that I've ever had the chance of staying in the city! The bed was super comfortable and the bathroom was large and expansive. The pillows were firm yet soft and I slept well every night that I was here. They also had turn down service every evening (a little piece of chocolate is always a nice touch at the end of the night!). Bottled water was also restocked daily after housekeeping visited. Staff was friendly upon check-in and at the lobby bar. There's also ample seating across the lobby from benches to chairs to sofas if you're waiting for ground transportation. I'd definitely consider staying here again when I visit Chicago. read more

The only issue was that for two guests, it only had one bathrobe. I was there with a good friend and we would have loved a low-key morning in robes with room service. Hotel The JW Marriott is one of the top tier hotels in the Marriott portfolio and it was a top notch stay as far as I am concerned. The hotel is situated in downtown Chicago on Adams street and there are plenty of easily walkable attractions in the area. Check-in was a breeze and the staff are polished here for sure. I was checked-in and on my way to my room in a few minutes. Rooms are very nice: fill-size bathtubs, large bathrooms with separate showers and toilet and plenty of light so you could prepare for the day ahead. Clean and cozy, the beds are very comfortable as well. There are plenty of elevators and they move quick - you'll need your key card to actually activate them however. Lobby is very large and well appointed with plenty of seating available in a variety of configurations - great for impromptu meetings or just for hanging out while you gather your friends before heading out. There is a lobby bar as well and it was nice but to me, it was a little too open to the rest of the lobby - sometimes I just want to have a cocktail without anyone walking by seeing what I am doing. There is an on-site Italian restaurant on the 2nd floor that also serves as a breakfast place in the mornings and if you have elite status, there is an executive lounge up on 12. Parking is charged per day and frankly, there are so many uber / taxi options you really do not need a car of your own. All in all a great place to lay your head if in Chicago. read more

I debated 4 or 5 stars, ultimately 5, for three main reasons. Staff is excellent. The location is great, and the gym is awesome, too. I did have better expectations on the room part. The bathroom is great. The Tv size is on the smaller side compared to other newer locations. But overall, for the rate this hotel has, it is very good value. Good downtown location. Great bar. I will stay here again. Parking seems expensive (but it is like that all over Chicago downtown), and specifically, this one, valet is very quick and helpful. Great weekend overall. read more

Not worth the price. For a brand that takes pride in luxury, this falls short 100%. The room is no different from what you would get from IHG, Hyatt, or Hilton at a lower price point. This hotel is paying for your perception of a brand, not real quality. In fact, I would argue that you could get more from an economy hotel, like I don't know, a MICROWAVE Lol Yes, you read that correctly. I don't normally care for a microwave because I don't like to take leftovers from restaurants, unless I know I will for sure eat it. My mom wanted to eat leftover deep dish pizza, and when she called to ask about a microwave, they said it came at an additional cost or that we could go to the family room down by the spa and heat up our food there. I'm sorry, what? You mean we all pay a resort fee, and a simple microwave is not included? Be for real. Economy style hotels include microwaves, why is Marriott scraping for pennies? GREED. Take this brand and knock it down 2 tiers. Sure, the hotel is pretty and has nice floors, but it falls short. Rooms are basic, mattress and pillows are not comfortable, the spa is basic and doesn't even include a jacuzzi or pool exclusively for spa guests. Instead, you're out by the jacuzzi trying to relax in a family environment. When we went to get in the jacuzzi, there were 3 kids playing in the jacuzzi, so we just decided to head back to the room. Not to mention the spa itself is sub par, but I'll leave that review for the spa itself. read more

The JW is in a beautiful building in a great location. Upon entering you're impressed by a beautiful and expansive lobby. That's because the JW is located in an historic 1914 Daniel Burnham-designed building which is the former Continental and Commercial Bank. The lobby offers comfortable seating and a large full service bar. Our room was on the Executive Lounge Level which is made available by paying a premium, or when available to higher Marriott membership levels. The room was in excellent condition, nicely appointed with a comfortable bed and beautiful bath. Everything worked correctly in our room, not something that I can often say. The view was limited, not unusual for the heart of downtown Chicago (or New York for that matter), but there was sufficient light from the large windows. The Executive Lounge provides a very nice breakfast each morning, and hors d'oeuvres on most evenings. The food was very good and the lounge was large and comfortable. The elevators have the historical look and feel, lined with dark wood panels and ceiling. They also worked well, we rarely waited for more than 15 seconds to get an elevator. Check-in was fast and professional and the staff was accommodating. They have an expansive fitness room, with plenty of equipment and a small pool, all which is adjacent to their spa, which we did not use on this trip. The only issue, is that all these facilities are in the basement. Windowless fitness rooms, no matter how much equipment offered, are never as inviting when they are in the basement. Also, the fitness room smelled of chlorine from the adjacent pool area. Overall we enjoyed our visit and would be happy to return. 4.5 stars rounded up for their very nice lounge. read more

We were able to check in super early, at 9am, which was awesome since we had spa services booked and could leave bags in the room. Our room was on the 8th floor and we were told we would have a view. We only had a view of the building across from us. Also, my sister was in crutches and our room was two really long corridors from the elevator. I guess the attendant wasn't thinking and my sister didn't think to request a closer room. Our room was pretty and modern. Beds were comfy and the rooms were quiet. My only wish was that we had more lighting in the bedroom area to see ourselves in mirrors as we dressed. It was pretty dark. It had a super deep kohler tub, which not every hotel offers. However, the plug didn't work so my sister wasn't able to use it. She didn't feel like calling for service because it was already nighttime. The location was perfect for us to get to a close spothero parking space at 400 S Franklin ($17) and to restaurants. We took an Uber to RPM Italian and it was a 12 min, $8 Uber ride. I'd definitely recommend this hotel. It's a great value for what you get! read more

This JW is beautiful. The staff were friendly and attentive. I was always greeted by a Ms. plus my last name. I stayed in the Quincy suite which included two bathrooms (one of which was huge with a large shower and full sized bathtub that I was able to lay down in comfortably), a nice sized living room, and bedroom. Bonus that the view from over the bath tub looked onto the corner where the helicopter crashes in The Dark Knight movie. The location is also great. I booked this because I wanted to try out one my credit cards travel portal to get some extra points. I originally had a another hotel room, but after comparing prices, I decided on this hotel. I'll say overall a nice spacious room with a nice view of the city. The hotel doesn't seem to be in the most heavily touristy area, but it is still close to locations that we wanted to see around the city. We used the hop on hop off tour, but I'm sure other transits are doable in this area. The only con which was probably my fault for delaying was getting a spa reservation in the hotel. I tried booking, but they had limited availability for my stay. I did walk by the spa going to the pool and fitness center. It looked like a decent spa. In regards to the fitness center and pool, very nice fitness center. The pool was okay, but it did seem a little on the small side. read more

This was my first trip to Chicago and I'm happy I stayed here. Staff was great, it was close to a lot of restaurants, shops and walking distance to a lot of main tourist attractions. The room was cozy and spacious, bed was comfy and bathroom was really big with a jacuzzi size tub and shower which was nice. The lobby was decorated beautifully for Christmas, the bar had happy hour and there is a nice Italian restaurant that even offers brunch, I'd recommend going to. Since we were there in the cold, I did not hit up any of the amenities but it's nice that they had them. It was also conveniently located next door to a 7/11 in case you needed to get snacks or something. We tried room service and the food was great, I honestly do not have any complaints and would stay here again. read more

JW Shockingly Disappointing I expected world-class service from a supposed to be luxury brand hotel. I regret booking this hotel. The room was gloomy outdated, the bed mattress was uncomfortable , The cotton pillow filling may bunch up unevenly, creating hard spots or ridges. For the premium charges rates JW Marriott brand, the lack of attention to detail is unacceptable. Basic necessities cut short such toothpaste, shaving razor, note pad and pen ..don't exist. I have to go through the loop and hope to connect to WiFi, "Unreliable Wi-Fi". Water faucet in the swimming pool area is rusty filthy, electrical plug in the room not mounted properly. The food at restaurant is hot or miss. Ordered Poke Bowl and rice was undercooked and terrible. But ordered kids cheeseburger meals and my kids LOVED it! Eat in lobby instead of in-room dining, the service fee of RIDICULOUS! Also didn't like the fact there fridges in each room but no microwaves in the rooms or at least on each floor. So to warm food you have to go below lobby area - probably a good 15+ minutes journey depending on which floor level your room is, very inconvenient. read more

Checked into room, Marriott Forgot our robes and bathrooms hardly had towels, 30 Mins after ordering coffee for room Service came in and after only knocking once they took our coffee tins away because they needed them... The customer service not very friendly, not enough courtesy umbrellas, Told us we could check out at 1 then called back and told us we had to pay. The entire experience has been less than stellar not what I'm used to With the Marriott brand. The rooms could use refreshing. I guess the bengals and democratic convention is more important than its loyal customers. You can smell weed in the hallways and employees are too busy on their phones. I felt impelled to write today to express my appreciation of Katie Royce the food and beverage manager at the Chicago property. Being a lifetime premium platinum elite member, it takes a lot to impress me. I made a reservation for high tea with my niece visiting from LA over the summer. I asked if the server Anar I know and love was scheduled that day. She called me back and arranged for him to be there the day I had asked. This is amazing as during Covid I hadn't been to the property in over a year and a half. When I arrived with my guest, Katie was there to introduce herself and welcome us. The executive chef also came out and explained our exquisite tea box items as well. It was so nice seeing the server Anar and catching up on old times as well as hearing about all the new things happening in his life. We really get treated like royalty from him and everyone there! It was such a nice experience and the fact that the executive chef personally created all the food items around our dietary exclusions was really amazing! We were treated like we were the only ones there and Anar even reserved the table that we like to sit at. This was above and beyond a 5 star experience! This was so personalized for me there was nothing more to add. Where high teas at other hotels are timed and the same old items, we sat at our leisure and no one was rushing us or suggesting we leave. The tea box items were unique one bring the salmon ceviche! I love the staff here and will continue to visit as much as I can! They earned my business for good! Katie, Anar and the food and beverage staff do not disappoint! This JW Marriott Chicago is literally the size of a city block. So when you check in, please ask to be as close the elevator as possible or you will be taking a hike! You have been warned. This downtown location is ideal for me because based upon my work activities. The rooms are nicely sized and occasionally I get a turned down service that includes pretty decent chocolate. Lately my rooms have included a deep size bathtub but I haven't had a chance to utilize that. I appreciate how spacious the room and bathrooms are. The elevators are a little outdated and that is where I would recommend the most improvement. read more

We were in town for a short visit wife's birthday.... I chose Marriott over some of the others out there because the proximity to food and that decision was super awesome!!! Kelsey Ring reached out inquiring on our reason for visit... She set up chocolate covered strawberries and champagne as we checked into our room and I got bonus points from the wife! She definitely felt special. I am very pleased with the decision. From the check in with a nice gentleman Aaron. We felt valued and the hospitality was super top notch! The cleaning crew was awesome they greeted us as we walked by and were very generous. The stay was peaceful. The bathroom was legit...the shower had a luxurious feel... What: stayed here for one night when our flight to Rochester NY was cancelled due to weather. We had an executive suite on the executive level. Very clean, comfortable bed. Huge bathroom area. The executive lounge had delicious fruit, fresh squeezed juices and a hearty multigrain toast with pb&j. They also had eggs and sausage and pancakes. Very nice! Also, plenty of bottled waters, coffee, tea and sodas. Service: top notch. Kitty was very helpful when my husband's gout acted up and we needed a cane. She suggested a folding one from Walgreens. They didn't have one, but we later found one at CVS. Location: there is a 7-11 around the corner that we didn't go in, and a McDonalds and Walgreens across the street. read more

This JW Marriott is in a great location. Just a few blocks off of Michigan Avenue and the Bean. We were warmly greeted when we pulled up. Check in was easy. My husband is a titanium elite with Marriott and had put in to use some Suite nights. That didn't pan out but they did put us up on the Executive floor which gave us access to the lounge. We had breakfast there one day and it was wonderful. Lots of options including fresh fruit and overnight oatmeal and fresh Greek yoghurt. They also had a great coffee machine where you could make fancy coffee or even hot chocolate. There were also hot options including bacon, sausage and eggs. The lounge is totally closed on Saturday and overall has some reduced hours. Our room was large and clean. The bed was very comfortable. Valet parking is $75 per night. If you want to save money, there is a public parking garage close by that would run you $50 per day. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and would definitely come back. read more

We recently had a wonderful stay at the JW. Our SNA was granted and we were given a beautiful corner 1BR/1.5BA suite. Both the JW and our suite were lovely, quite spacious, and well appointed. The service was impeccable and the hotel conveniently located. We were particularly pleased with the lounge which opened at 6AM even on weekends and was open until 10PM Su-Th serving hors d'oeuvres and later dessert in the evening. We were also very happy with the lobby bar (and bartender) which was open late into the evening serving us snacks, exemplary Aviations and not too shabby Corpse Revivers as well. read more
