FYI, I visited the location at the Southern campus on Fayetteville Road…read more The first visit went really well and my child and I both received haircuts. I didn't mind that the instructor assisted both of the students at various points during the service because the instructor was friendly and clearly teaching the students how to work on different techniques. I left feeling pleased with our cuts, the friendliness of the instructors and students, and that I saved money. A few months later, I made a 2nd appointment for my teens to have their hair dyed, and immediately felt a different vibe from the first visit. The two students who were assigned to my teens were staring oddly at us and whispering with each other, and it felt very uncomfortable. I got the impression that they may not have been comfortable doing my teens' curly hair. I politely requested different stylists, asking specifically for students of color and initially was told it wouldn't be a problem. A few minutes later the instructor brought over another instructor who told me that switching stylists wasn't possible and that I "needed to give these students a chance because they are learning how to make money". I explained that the vibe felt off, but there was no flexibility so we decided to leave. It wasn't worth it to potentially have a bad outcome with student stylists who were clearly not comfortable doing my teens' hair. Honestly, they didn't care whether we left or stayed and I could hear people rudely talking about us as we were going out the door. Overall, you can save a lot of money here if you are open to the idea that it is a teaching salon. However, it's important to know that some of the students may openly show they are uncomfortable doing hair of someone with a different ethnicity.

Then we rushed through practice on eyebrow pads with the blades, but had no example of blade strokes and different brow designs, and also didn't have any critiquing of the layout of the strokes on our practice sheets. Then when practicing on models we didn't get a lot of guidance. The kits included in our purchase price (very expensive) included calipers that we weren't even trained on. We used alternate calipers that were sold separately. The owner was one of the people there that was teaching, and was helpful when asked questions, but Su seemed to bounce around and wasn't able to answer my questions let alone still in one spot in the afternoon long enough to monitor the tattooing I was placing on volunteers. How can you teach a class without brow design examples?

This woman shouldn't be allowed to educate in our State. Students will not leave this class ready to microblade and that's the bottom line. We, as paying students weren't taught hair stroke technique at all. Only one brow mapping method was told using a caliper and an eyebrow pencil. I felt very sorry for the models that signed up - they were botched, not to mention had inadequate numbing which caused the procedure to be extremely painful. I encourage anyone considering a Microblading course to be smart and do your research before taking any class or you'll end up throwing away $2,450.00 like I did.
