    AFTER photos of fascia repair
    Heather K.

There were problems from the beginning. They simply didn't show up on the day they were scheduled, and didn't call. Then one day -weeks later- they called to say they were on their way. The pictures show the terrible work that was done. They left rotten boards in place, used wood with holes and other damage, and didn't caulk anything. I've been calling and texting for weeks but getting no response. They did, however, manage to send an invoice.

The screened patio falling apart from the weight of their trash.

I hired Willow & Blue from filling out a form on Houzz and I was very specific that I was "looking…read morefor a licensed General Contractor (GC) only" that was in the area I had just bought a house. That same night I received a call from Jalene. This is a family run business Jeff is the licensed GC, Jalene is his wife, and Madyson is the daughter. Jalene has a personality that I am pretty sure leaves her with no enemies she is bright and cheery and straightforward. She gave me their GC # and even told me how to verify a GC license if I did not hire them so I would be protected. I met with 5 GC's for the job. 1 of them was not licensed at all, another used someone else's license, so there were 3 GC's who gave me an estimate. Willow & Blue was not the cheapest and also not the most expensive, they came in right in the middle of all the quotes. I really, REALLY liked the idea of having 2 women on the team for design ideas. I met Jalene and Madyson at a flooring store near my home and they showed up with several door and countertop samples. We picked everything out, I handed them the key and deposit and went back down to my old home. Jalene was my main go to, mostly because she was always available via text or a phone call and would usually reply within minutes or an hour, but never more than 24 hours. They went above and beyond on each and every item in every room. They brought multiple paint samples to the house and both ladies and myself did a face time and agreed on paint color. I had ordered a dining room set and they met the delivery people at the house to receive it so my home would be more complete when I finally made my move. Madyson is the one who put together the mood boards (shows example the bathroom floor tile, shower wall tile, tub, and light fixtures and faucets etc. so you get an idea of the mood or how they looked together) She also was the one who puts together the costs of items and does the re make of the quote with any up charges, or items we removed and kept the job quote updated as we moved through. Jeff is "The man". He made sure everything got done in the correct order, on time, handled each item to meet perfection and oversaw every aspect, to make my new home vision come to life. Since my new home is a little over 4 hours each way, I did not come to the house at all during the renovation. Jalene went through and cleaned my back yard, garage, things that she certainly did not have to do. This was just another "Above and beyond" type of job to expect if you hire Willow & Blue. Jeff and Jalene are perfectionists in a very positive way. Jeff did not like the look of the weather stripping on the front door and replaced that without me asking, being on the contract or me even noticing it needed it. There were some cabinet doors / drawers that were slightly imperfect and put a penciled "X" on the back of cabinets or doors they were waiting on to replace. It was so minor that there was a slight difference in the gap of the 2 doors from top to bottom that was the reason they were replacing. You will not hear "Thats going to have to work" or "Thats as good as it is going to get" if you hire Willow & Blue. Move in day happened and I walked into my house and was wowed at what an amazing transformation and the beauty of it. I can not believe this is my house, they truly are an amazing team!! I had told Jalene that move in holiday (Memorial Day) weekend I wanted to lounge in the pool and drink Margaritas with pretty umbrellas in them. On my dining room table was a bucket with tequila, margarita mix, 4 margarita plastic glasses (good looking out for Rule #1 - no glass poolside) and a package of the little umbrellas for drinks. There was also a box of donuts on the table that were the most amazing donuts (will learn more about them for sure) I am so happy that I hired them. The final product exceeded my expectations. I would not hesitate to hire them again. But hey, if you do not want to just take my word for it - let the pictures make that decision for you (the Crown for kitchen cabinets are running a bit late so they are not in the photos) Thank you Willow & Blue for an amazing new "forever" home for me and my husband. The kids and grandkids are already planning trips for a visit

We DO NOT recommend this contractor. We plan to report him to the Department of Business &…read moreProfessional Regulation (DBPR) which provides contractor oversight from the State of Florida. He came locally recommended and seemed experienced. Things went ok so long as I continued to give him large lumps sums of money he requested. However, his guys began increasingly to cause damage to the house and perform sloppy unsupervised work. He ducked responsibility by either just ignoring the issues or by blaming many damaged or lost items on us, the homeowners. As the project continued he refused to provide invoices from his subcontractors to substantiate his simple spreadsheet billing. Dean Russell refused to sit down and come to terms with all the issues. Instead he threatened us and had a family law (divorce) attorney issue a lien on the property. Damages caused by his crew plus unsubstantiated billing are now well into the six figures. We have had to get an attorney just to sort this mess out which is an unfortunate first for us. It's totally nuts. Examples of problems are too many to list here but include (also see photos): Under his watch the workers destroyed the essential glass pane of the fireplace but didn't tell us, even though we were living in the house and have a severely mentally handicapped child who routinely puts items in her mouth. I discovered the issue when I stepped in a big piece of glass that I had to pull out of my foot. The fireplace was not repairable, damage is in the five figures and he decided to ignore the issue. No repair for 11 months. He installed bathroom vent fans but didn't bother to connect to ducts, which meant we were venting warm moist air into the closed attic space for months. We have been told to look for mold there now. Outside motorized shade doesn't go down all the way, instead poor planning on part of contractor and subs results in shade hitting the outdoor kitchen faucet. Repair will involve tearing out whole shade and frame and stucco and redoing same. The installation of so many locks and door handles on both existing and also brand new doors was so sloppy that the doors didn't close properly and the locks didn't work as they should. In some cases his guys actually split the wooden doors, didn't say anything and then simply caulked and painted over the damage rather than repair it. We have dealt with multiple home and commercial renovations but never had issues like this. We are now stuck with litigation and dealing with getting guys to fix all the issues, which is very time consuming and expensive. What a mess.

Dean Russell Custom Homes is an outstanding builder. I would give them 10 stars if I could. Over…read morethe years, I have used at least 6 builders for renovations or building a custom home. They are by far the best. Good listeners and communicators. Top quality design. Superior construction. Excellent vendors - all of whom did a fine job of working with us to give us quality products while staying within our budget. The highest integrity. We investigated almost 50 builders in the Jacksonville area before selecting them. One of the best decisions I have ever made. Be wary of any review that doesn't give them five stars.
