Horrible experience! The AC pan was overflowing, I just needed the drains cleared. They charged $460 to clear the lines, then went to town on a "deep" clean on the coils and "inspection" which I didn't ask for ie = $460. The pan was overflowing, that's all. That should be a $200, 30 minute job. But then, literally 6 days later, the AC pan was overflowing again. They came out and said oh....now you need new coils, ie $2500! The exact same thing they just cleaned a few days ago for $460! What? So they either misdiagnosed it, or damaged it the first time. Either way, they charged $460, and I got nothing in return, still have the same problem and now they want another $2500 "to fix what they cleaned earlier" ??? That's not fair! They clearly don't know what they're doing and shooting in the dark and charging as they go. read more

Ever since I went with this company per a reliable source. They installed my units (2018) and service them. I have been happy with them and their customer care from the phone to the techs to supervisors to management - at least 99% of the time (no one is perfect). Despite those few times I am still with them. They listen to you and work with you and as long as you talk to them you will be happy. Nothing is 100% certain with AC's and educating yourself on at least a little on how your units work will help you give them information you see\hear which will help them diagnose odd issues. It takes a lot to make me yelp... but this company warrants it. So I recently moved to Ponte Vedra Beach from New York, bought a big house that, as usual, the inspectors didn't correctly inspect. Soon I realized multiple AC zones weren't working, so I called Bueller, which seemed to be the 800 pound gorilla in the area. They came to my house, and quoted me a price of over $10,000, plus they said I had to open up my ceiling to gain access to one of the zones. I couldn't believe this was the case, so I wanted a second opinion. One of my neighbors recommended Ocean State. So I called them. They came and the first thing they said was that there was no need to cut into any walls; there was clear and easy access. Secondly, to fix everything, they charged me $3,200. They have been available on a moment's notice to come by if I had any issues before or after this (it malfunctioned again soon after and they fixed it the same day, free of charge). This is a really good company... smart, fast, attentive, fair and they clearly don't rip you off. Couldn't recommend more highly! read more

Ocean State serviced our A/C and Heat at two locations for hears because that when you call them a real person answers the phone. Over the years they've fallen into the same practice of always recommending a capacitor change, not cleaning out the lines or compressor area, and sending technicians that were too much work to listen to and deal with. Final straw was when Ocean State refused to do some ducting work to balance the system after they visited and provided an estimate. There are better businesses out there with a better reputation. read more

We have an annual maintenance contract with O S and we called to have someone come to check our unit for a leak. The person in the office responded by saying we can have a technician there in 15 minutes. Devan came and was extremely professional and knowledgeable. He fixed the situation quickly and also cleaned up the pipes and our garage. He was simply the best. Ocean State was awesome. Highly recommend them. read more

i had a problem with my a/c unit and the company i had could not get the part for a least 5 days.They told me the part was out of state and would take several days to arrive.I then called my friend at Ocean State air and heating company and they came that afternoon.Well after looking at the unit they found the problem and had the part sent overnight and will have it the next day and my a/c will be up and running no time not 5- 7 days without air in 90 degree heat.This is the company who truly cares about the customer before the money.polite and even the boss himself cameout to over see the job.One happy customer. We had Ocean State replace our AC unit last fall. They did the work quickly and with what appears to be a professional installation. All good. The only issue is that we noted that there was only one return duct into the closet for the air to return to the air handler. the bedrooms at the other side of the home were subject to poor air delivery. I know from a previous home. we had a similar issue and return air ducts were installed to allowed the system to work in "balance". We contact Ocean State a month after the installation and the representative came out and advised us to adjust the Thermostat. That did not work. I finally contacted a individual who came to our home and installed return duct work from the three bedrooms. Within an hour the whole house is cool and no stuffy warm bedrooms. So I think Ocean State did a good job installing the replacement. But did not do a very through job in evaluating the total system. But if you are looking for a OK job then this is your company. read more

We used Ocean State for over 10 years. The service people are always neat and polite. Unfortunately, every time we have them out even for routine service calls covered by our annual Maintenance contract they always find expensive repairs. Today was the final straw. We had a coil replaced for two thousand dollars a little over a year ago. Now they found a leak which the serviceman said probably occurred during the installation by their service people. Of course the warranty is only one year. So they want another two thousand. Topping it off the service manager called ( a unpleasant little fellow) and wanted us to buy an entire new unit. A scam they have used every time they have been out. The unit is nine years old and Ocean State installed. I should have wised up about them a long time ago. Beware! UPDATE: It was determined this morning by another Company's professionals that the cause of the coil leak was improper installation of the unit by Ocean State. Ocean States's serviceman said it was an installation problem by his company. The professionals I brought in today said it was an installation problem by Ocean State. They gave me specifics: the copper wire wasn't' sheathed (covered) and was sitting on the aluminum coil with obvious leak results. To top all this Ocean State failed to register the unit with Trane AC the manufacturer nine years ago as they were supposed too. Consequently, I only had a five year warranty instead of the 10 year warranty that would have covered the two set of coils I had installed (one last year by Ocean State and one today by another company). Ocean State took me for $4000.00. Readers know what that is. Then the owner has the audacity to ask me to call him! Beware!!!!!!!!!!!!! Using my background, I found other so called Customers of Ocean State. Here is what one said: "I'm not surprised at your experience. I caught a technician, who was there to just to do a standard 'service' (clean the drain pipe, etc), bleed off coolant stand around for 10 mins then come and tell me I needed a whole new outside unit. I watched him from the window bleed off the coolant. I immediately called the office a had the supervisor come, who tried to tell me the tech was a good guy and that I did need that coolant which he was happy to charge me for. I then called another company who did a system check for me and they pronounced my system was good with no leaks. When I relayed my story to the tech, he said it was common knowledge that Ocean State liked to incentivize their techs for selling equipt." Update: Actually Ocean State registered for warranty purposes a purchase of Trane AC made in 2009 with Trane in 2011 according to Trane. Little slow there!!!! Update: Still haven't heard from the "responsive" Ocean State. Somehow, I don't expect too. read more

Run!!!!!!! Very untrustworthy and poor ethics. I had the Disfortune of working with them for 2 service calls. Both times a man named Randy. 1st call was for an apparent Freon leak. Randy didn't have a leak detector on his truck. Since he couldn't tell how bad leak was he said putting in Freon would be a waste but if I insisted on it, it would be minimum of $600 plus trip charge. Only other option given was to replace my unit. Called another company and problem solved for $250. Still working fine 2 summers later. Visit 2: I decided to give them another chance to service the unit they installed in my office for routine maintenance. Randy again. After looking at it for 15 minutes he told me that drain line was backing up. I had already told them that when I called. He stated bc of that it would be an extra $200 plus trip fee than he would have to return for maintenance care. When I asked if servicing drain line was part of normal maintenance he couldn't provide straight answer. After going back and forth for a long 15 minutes he wouldn't budge on his position although it made no sense. I sent him on his way. To make matters worse both times I called the service Manager Hal and he wouldn't even let me finish explaining what happened before he basically blamed me for everything. I own multiple properties each with separate AC units. I cannot do business with them ever again. Dishonest, greedy, and piss poor customer service. Not sure how they get any good reviews. Consumer alert: Do not use Ocean State AC for any repairs. They serviced my AC unit 2 months ago, filled it with Freon, and told me my unit is in good condition. I had them come out again, they filled it with Freon again, and told me it was needing to be replaced. The tech was complaining about how he had to come back to my house and then lied to his service manager saying I refused to pay when I was only questioning the charges. I had to ask him to leave my property because he was very rude. read more

After a bad experience with another company in town and after more research I cane across Ocean State , and I'm glad from the first call to the guy who came out to do the estimate everyone in this family friendly business was wonderful !!! I have recommended OSA to everyone I know and will continue . When I got my estimate I had three choses to pick from , leaving it up to me after he went over each system and what they did . Recently had Ocean State perform a"tune up" on our AC. Decided to call them as they were the company that did our original unit when we built our home and also like to support local businesses. BIG MISTAKE! The technician did not thoroughly vacuum the line resulting in damage to our home. We contacted Ocean State and were told to contact homeowners insurance. So much for their motto of customer satisfaction and a 30 day guarantee. read more

They showed up and it looked like a difficult job so they left. Told me the fan motor wasn't the original motor and wasn't a Trane motor. I also had already removed all the panels and wiring covers so all wires could be seen. I had checked for some of the obvious items like blown fuse etc. and figured why put it all back on as the technician would have to remove them again. This seemed a big concern as he called the office and said I was a mr handyman and wires were everywhere . Yea! The covers were all off and everything was visable. Regardless they must want to do big easy jobs so they declined the work. The guy must not have been a technician as he probably was a part replacer and not smart enough to try to fix it. Surprise. His name was Randy. Update. I called another company who I gave a great review. They came diagnosed the problem as a bad motor. Charged me $98 for service call and told me it was a bad motor in about 10 minutes. They replaced the motor with options of if I wanted same aftermarket or a Trane motor. Simply Horrible. The first time I used them they got for $200 on something others do for free. Today not only did they try to get me on a quick $90 service fee unexpectedly, but they tried to charge me $600 more than J & W Heating did. On top of that, they refused quotes on optional upgraded services and also insisted upon incorrect info about my system. Oh ya, a cap is missing from my unit now too. Rip Off Alert!! - Randy told me we had a leak and we need 14 lbs of Freon and it would cost us $1,100 to put R-410A Freon in my unit, but would leak out again. Option 2, would be $175 to look for a leak (what was the $98 service call for??), plus cost to repair the leak when found, plus $1,100 Freon and the repair would be about $2,500. Option 3, you could by a new unit for about $5,000, but I'm not trying to sell you a new unit..... I paid the $98 service call fee and told him to leave. Called in another company to come out same day and they charged $350 total for the repair and trip to replace the leaking dryer, added Freon and on his way, cooling again. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. read more

Randy Bass did an outstanding job of servicing our two a/c units. He was very efficient, finishing the semi-annual servicing within the hour. Twice-a-year preventive maintenance service for $300 is very good value considering the cost of an urgent repair. I was surprised at the 1 poor review as I had an excellent outcome. My service tech Robert was very knowledgeable, sales was not high pressure and Matthew in sales worked within our budget and needs. Installers were excellent, Matt and Courtney...oh, and as a woman I LOVE that they give women a fair shot. I did have one issue and it got fixed right away no problem. The only thing I will say is that you do have to keep in touch with them, the office staff seems to be overloaded and sometimes you do not get call backs in a timely manner. My AC was replaced July 2015, but I have dealt with this business off and on since 1988 and never felt ripped off. I have recommended them to friends. read more
