Forget about this place! My wife and I stopped in to buy some wine, but the staff were more interested in their computers than helping us. There was no greeting, and they didn't even step out from behind the counter despite being the only customers in the store. While they were technically professional when answering questions, the vibe was incredibly standoffish and unwelcoming. For a shop selling fine wine in NYC, you'd expect better service. Save your money and go elsewhere--there are far better options nearby. read more

K&D has been on this corner for as long as I can remember. I'm surprised I haven't reviewed this place yet. Maybe I don't know any better but I found the prices higher than shopping on East 86th Street. It's been a while since I needed to take a bottle of spirits to a dinner or buy a gift. If I do I'll definitely take a look in K&D since it's close to businesses I frequent. If you move to the neighborhood check it out since it's a convenient location. read more

I thought it was just me! As I read through the reviews - it's all been said. These Millennials and Gen Xers developed the Gen Z stare. I was going there regularly for years because it was so close. It was always filled with staff, rarely other customers. Yet, no greeting or acknowledgment when I went in, and they always acted SO inconvenienced to ring me up. Especially the woman with the short blondish hair. Always rude. If I was with my dog and asked for a treat for him (my dog knew they kept dog treats behind the counter) - they would react like I was asking them to bake fresh croissants rather than reach right below and dole out a five cent mini marrow snack. Lastly, if I couldn't make it out I would never order from them because their deliveries (small ones) wouldn't arrive until the end of the night, no matter what time you placed them. I couldn't stomach it anymore. Now, I go to two other places in the area that are a little further for me but SO much more pleasant. read more

K&D is a tiny shop on the Upper East Side that had the 2015 San Giorgio Brunello that I wanted. There wasn't much else in the store that was of interest, and the their prices seemed a bit steep. As I turned the key in the door tonight I remembered from an earlier phone call that there was a birthday package waiting for me just inside! Sure enough, at the bottom of the stairs I spotted a red box addressed to me. I lifted it up, surprised by its heft. No stranger to powerlifting, I hauled it up the stairs noting it's irregular rhythm as I climbed. After shrugging off my shoes and coat I tore into the package. Immediately, I realized I had struck gold - liquid gold - for the package contained four bottles of wine! If I hadn't just come from BEauty at the B.East, happily satiated by the VeeV Açaí cocktails, I might've opened one on the spot! With this selection, it'd be hard to choose just where to begin: Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, a South African Pinotage, Châteauneuf-du-Pape and an Argentinean Malbec. Good selection of wines (notably French varietals). I don't find the staff here particularly helpful or gracious. It always seems like you're inconveniencing them with a question or a recommendation. I wouldn't go out of my way to buy here, but it is a cut above stores within a few blocks and further afield in the neighborhood. read more

Unnecessarily rude, rank attitude killed any chance of me stepping foot in here again. I came in today to buy a bottle of champagne, and yes, while I didn't spring for the Moet or the Dom or the Veuve Clicquot, the bottle that I ended up buying still didn't warrant the guy's terrible response when I asked for some plastic cups. He handed over three. I asked for a few more, as I was anticipating a larger group partaking in some delicious champagne. He said: "This isn't the kind of place where we just give away cups for free." Well, slap me silly and call me Sally. I stood there, stunned and open-mouthed for a beat. I felt like the drunk uncle who wanders into a Thanksgiving photoshoot and knocks over the matriarch's prized potted fern. I felt like the college student who still awkwardly hangs around the high school senior and asks where the weekend kegger will be. I had half a mind to demand a refund right then and there. (and really, what exactly is a place that just gives away cups for free, and did I look like the type of person who should frequent that place? The type of person who isn't good enough for K&D?) But I only managed to eke out an "O-kay." He caught my expression and said half-heartedly, "But we do sell plastic cups that are $3 per cup." Are you kidding me?? You have wine tastings almost every other day, all of them requiring those plastic cups that cost maybe a few dollars to buy in bulk, and you want me to pay THREE DOLLARS PER CUP? It was Upselling 101. I felt like I had tumbled into a wormhole and entered the great beyond known as The Madison Avenue Portion of the Upper East Side. I grabbed my champagne and practically ran out of there. Seriously, if giving me three dinky plastic cups on the house is considered a major act of generosity here, I'm scared to know what counts as cheese and wine night. A tiny sliver of cheddar? Two drops of merlot in a mouthwash cup? Just by taking a gander at the other reviews, I'm not the only customer who the people who work here have been rude to. I wouldn't have been bothered at all if the man just lied and said, "No, sorry, we ran out" or "We're trying to save our cups for the tastings." Anything to maintain some semblance of courtesy. Take your money and spend it at another wine store where the employees don't say crap like this. read more

Absolutely loved my visit tonight !!! One gentleman in particular was extremely helpful and nice. I was picking up a bottle of this somewhat unique (or I'd like to think so:), and highly rated Tequila called Chamucos for my boyfriend's birthday. He loves Tequila so I wanted something special and since the box has a devil on it -wow what a perfect gift just for him lol. I would HIGHLY recommend this store, it's beautifully decorated with a fall theme on the outside and easily accessible by public transportation. This particular Tequila was surprisingly quite difficult to find- and they had many in stock at a LOWER price than I saw it listed for online (to ship) from other shops much farther away. The layout of the store is like a library with bookcases reaching towards the ceiling; you'll absolutely find what you're looking for. They also have a great selection of minis !!! I went crazy buying up some mini bottles. Gift wrap is free and they are super generous with ample tissue paper. Will absolutely be a return customer; 5 stars !!! read more

Hands down the best wine store that is located on the planet we call Earth. I consider myself a seasoned wine drinker (borderline connoisseur), and therefore I have experienced plenty of both good and distasteful wine stores. However, with K&D, bad experiences are nonexistent. The floormen, owner, delivery driver-everyone is approachable, knowledgeable, and energetic. And best of all, the prices are reasonable. Every time I step foot into this store, I know I am going to leave with something I desire, even if I walk in without a specific goal. The bottom line is this: The owner is venerable and caring, the employees are knowledgeable and hardworking, & the prices are very fair. This is the recipe for a fantastic consumer experience. I have been in K & D several times alone and with my husband. We are never greeted. We are never helped. We are never even thanked when we make a purchase. Tonight was the very last time I'll stop in at this store. The guy who rang me up couldn't even hand me a pen to sign my credit card receipt. I'd rather spend my money on people who want it. This place has a lot of people on the floor for a wine and liquor store. But, every single time I'm in here I never get a greeting from any one of them. I don't even get a thank you when checking out. I don't know if it's some workplace rule that they should act superior to their customer, but every person does. The cashier (girl, young female) was very rude when I was checking out. Sarcastic and very unpleasant experience. will be avoiding this place from now on. Was told that my friend and I needed to present ID, citing it was "the law" and had an attitude about it. no. it's not the law. It's your store policy. Don't lie to me and be rude about it. "While section 65(5) of the Alchohol Beverage Control Law ("ABC Law") makes it illegal to sell to under-21s, there is no law requiring a vendor to obtain identification from any customer at all." If you want to card everyone, fine. Just don't tell people "it's the law", and don't be rude about. read more

My parents are loyal customers of K&D Wines, and now that we are past legal age myself and my siblings continue their patronage of this lovely store. The staff is always friendly and eager to assist and dispense advice if you are having difficulty choosing a specific kind. Their extensive knowledge means that they can recommend different bottles based upon your budget, what you plan on serving it with, and where your and your guests' personal tastes lie - and they don't seem to stock any wine that I haven't enjoyed (and believe me, my parents have gotten a ton of different wine from them during my lifetime). Even during the madness of the holidays, they continue to provide wonderful customer service despite the enormous amount of stress I imagine they are under with all of the customers and large orders they deal with daily. Can't wait to see what they have in stock now when I go to pick up a bottle or two this weekend! read more

This is a fantastic wine shop that really seeks to serve and educate without being pushy or stuffy. The staff here are all lovely and always want to help you find just the right bottle of wine for the meal and budget I have in mind. I pop in regularly but I have also now starting taking advantage of their wonderful free delivery which has really helped me out when I have had people over and realise I need wine! Their website is informative and I've learnt so much about American wines since moving here from Europe courtesy of their staff. They have a varied selection of wines for all budgets and never make me feel bad for wanting to buy something on the cheaper side! That said, they know what to suggest when you want to treat yourself to something nicer and have not let us down yet. This decently big wine store offers a good selection but is a little pricey. I often go here because there is a decent variety of kosher wines. The store itself is nice, clean, and organized. Wooden racks house the wines and there are lots of people working so it is easy to get advice. Unfortunately, last time I sent, I picked out a bottle that was under the wrong price and then I had to go back and grab another when it was not in my price range. read more

I bought a collectible bottle from the store. They shipped it without including the box it came in (other stores flatten the box and ship it along with the actual bottle). When I requested it, they said they would not send me the box. If you are collecting high end bottles, avoid this place. If you are looking to drink the bottles, this is a good place price wise. read more

The sales staff is always pretty helpful, I don't know what Corinne is talking about. They have one of the best Bordeaux and Burgundy selections I have seen in the city. Not to mention they have a real Languedoc section, plus a huge selection of half bottles. I live way over on 2nd and they deliver for me for free. What more could you want? P.S. This just might be the best wine store in the city. What you want from a good wine store is variety (of which they have plenty), prices (which are pretty reasonable for what they sell), quality (you'll definitely find that here), and knowledgeable staff. Incant stress this last aspect enough: a good staff makes or breaks a wine shop, since they'll be able to recommend a wine that not only you will love, but that won't break the bank (although they'll happily sell you that $1,000 if you really want to try it). Aside from being knowledgeable, the staff is also friendly and courteous to customers, catering to their tastes instead of whatever booze promoters are trying to push that week. read more

For such a small store they have a strong election of wine, and if they don't have it on premises they will try their best to get it for you. Delivery is quick, and the discount for a case is 10%. The staff has an average knowledge of wine. They are willing to give recommendations but 90% of the time it is poor advice. I am not sure if they just don't understand quality wine or are trying to offload unpopular wine but I find it best that you go in knowing what you want. As someone fluent in French, I find it funny that the staff is always trying to correct my pronunciation of French wines but the staff has a horrible knowledge of French. As a joke I always call, asking for a particular French wine and use perfect French accent, and the staff will respond by repeating the name of the wine incorrectly. So hilarious but I go along with it. :) But overall they have a great wine selection and great delivery time which is most important. This more than offsets the the poor wine knowledge of the staff and very poor recommendations. Staff can be a bit curt as well. If they knew wine it's tolerable but without any knowledge its tiresome. read more

Yes, they have a good selestion and, yes, they have a reliable delivery guy. BUT, the staff in the store, from the manager on down, couldn't be more disinterested and surly. The staff is much more interested in dealing with the computer screen than making eye contact, smiling, and helping the customer.
