This was Tony's first time at a Brazilian steak house and it did not disappoint. The salad buffet had a good selection, and standard stuff for the hot sides. Tony made the rookie move of loading up on too much salads. Becauae meat skewers were outstanding. About 6 or 8 varieties each better than the last. It was our first visit last night. We had tried Pampas many years ago but revisited the menu and reviews online. It seemed a bit crazy to spend $65 per person and pay extra for other foods and drinks. We asked a friend for recommendations, and they suggested Fumaca to us. At Fumaca, it's $50 per person, and you can Order your pops for $4 with free refuel!! This offers much better value and a great deal - saving $15 per person for some extra drinks. The staff was friendly and provided good service without any issues. However, I'm not sure how they handle things during busy times. Last night was quiet and relaxed with not many people around. I saw their online menu which has chicken heart, and they don't serve around. So we asked, and they did it JUST for us!!!!. One thing to note, though, is that I could smell that the chicken heart might not have been cleaned thoroughly. They had to cut out the garlic shrimp as it wasn't available, contrary to what the online menu indicated - just a heads up. I recommend trying the pineapple! read more

Legacy Post from 2019 I visited Fumaca soon after they first opened and really enjoyed the experience. The atmosphere and the service were nice. Chefs came around quite often with different varieties of food. A lot of their food felt similar/better than other Brazilian BBQ places. Some of the items that stood out were: striploin (quite flavourful), leg of lamb (the glaze on the lamb was superb), shrimp (jumbo size), chicken heart (interesting), grilled pineapple (refreshing), and ribeye (really good but for some reason not on their menu anymore...). Also they are a less expensive Brazilian BBQ AYCE, so I'd give them 8.8/10 read more

If you're craving Brazilian steakhouse that's not Pampas, Fumaca is a solid choice! It's not as busy or crowded but you get more and so the same effect. Their salad bar is average with cold and hot options, but the truffle Mac and cheese is amaaazing. They didn't skimp on the cheese for this one and you can actually taste the truffle! I love the chicken drumsticks that came around, as well as the pork sausage. The garlic steak seemed to be a stand out as well! Their meats are cooked more rare than at Pampas so that's important to note (med-rare most meats). The highlight, however, was the grilled pineapple. And might I dare say it's better than the one at Pampas?? It's the perfect balance of sweet and tart, I just couldn't get enough of it. The desserts here are pretty good too! I really love the Fumaca cake, especially. Sooo much chocolatey goodness. read more

I am currently on a business trip to the Edmonton area from California. I was looking for a new place to eat dinner when I remembered having a great experience at Fumaca on a previous visit just a few months ago. While I could not remember the gentleman's name, one of the servers had made recommendations for me to try that he thought I might like. I remember that he was intent on making sure I had a positive experience. I returned to Fumaca today with the memory and recognized the server from my previous visit. Again, he went out of his way to recommend the mint sauce to try with the lamb. He even went to get it for me. This time I asked his name and am happy to say that Raj is truly an asset to Fumaca. He has exemplary customer service skills and goes the extra mile to make sure his patrons have a special time. The next time I'm in Edmonton, I will not hesitate to come back. Delicious Brazilian BBQ steakhouse. Servers are friendly, food came frequently, and the picanha steak and the BBQ's cinnamon pineapple were particularly amazing. That said, this place is no more authentic than Pampa, compared to an actual place in Brazil (where I have lived). I actually thought the quality of the meats was slightly higher than Pampa, but that vary a little from day to day so I'd have to return a few times to be sure. The salad bar was decent but much smaller than an actual Brazilian place would usually have, and did not contain typical things I would expect in Brazil such as heart of palm. There was also no pão de queijo (cheese bread), at least on the evening we were there (Sunday). It was nice to see they offered some actual Brazilian wine however, and a small but decent selection of cachaça (a sugar cane brandy). So, basically same review as I gave to Pampa - go, enjoy the steak and other meats, it's still delicious and mouthwatering, but be aware it's a very North-Americanized experience and if you ever get the chance to try a real one in South America you'll see the difference. read more

As I pulled up to the restaurant I was quite nervous as there seemed to be no one inside. I went inside and there was only one other table on a Friday at 8pm. Needless to say, I was worried the selection of meats on for just two tables would be lacking but boy was I wrong. All the cuts we had were delicious and the most notable was the garlic steak. As other reviews have stated, the pineapple is a must have and really helps to keep your palette fresh with all the savoury food options. Fumaca Brazilian Steakhouse is the latest restaurant to take over the property that has been home to various eateries over the year. Overlooking the River Valley, Fumaca serves up a full Brazilian 'Rodizo' offering all-you-can-eat meat (14 cuts to be exact + grilled pineapple), as well as a salad bar. Their meats can be found during lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch. Most people would compare Fumaca to it's one and only competitor, Pampa. I'll talk about my verdict between the two restaurants later on in my post. The hot and cold salad bar consists of over 50 items. For those who want to dine here and fully enjoy the salad bar without the meat option, it will cost $29.99 per person. I was starving when I went to Fumaca (but who doesn't starve themselves before AYCE??) which meant that I ate with my eyes at the salad bar and filled my plate up more than I should've. For cold items, you can choose from different salads, beef carpaccio, devilled eggs, assorted vegetables, and more. Their hot items were mainly carbs such as mashed potato and truffle mac & cheese (which I couldn't stop eating when I should've been eating meat instead). The salad bar had a lot of options to cater to different tastebuds but my advice is to not load up your plate here and save your stomach for the different cuts of meat instead! Time for the main course and main review... the meat! There are 14 different cuts of meat + grilled pineapple, and yes, you do get to try them all in one sitting. How it works: each person at the table gets a small card where one side is green and one side is red. Waiters walk around the restaurant with a different cut of meat and slice it off for you, onto your plate. How do you determine when you want and don't want meat? If the green side of the card is flipped up on the table, the meat's gonna be coming towards you. If the red side is flipped up, that means 'stop' and the waiter will pass by you. The meat is limitless so if you want a specific cut twice, just ask the waiter to bring it over again! Here are the different cuts of meat offered: - Beef: rib eye steak, top sirloin, bottom sirloin, rumpsteak, garlic steak, striploin steak, roasted beef ribs - Pork: pork sausage, parmesan pork loin - Chicken: chicken drumsticks, bacon-wrapped chicken, chicken hearts - Other: garlic marinated shrimp, leg of lamb, grilled pineapple My main favourites were beef rumpsteak, garlic steak, grilled pineapple, and chicken drumsticks. Beef rumpsteak is the most popular cut at Fumaca and I can see why! It was very delicious and succulent - definitely something that you'll want twice of. The garlic steak was very tender, and I honestly love anything that is seasoned with garlic! Their grilled pineapple stood out for me. Lightly covered with cinnamon and brown sugar, the waitress referred to it as a "healthy" dessert but I thought of it as sweet with savoury. It was sweet, but paired well with the savoury food. It was tasty and unique! The chicken drumsticks were also one of my favourites because it was one of the juiciest drumsticks I've ever had. There was no dryness at all and it did not lack flavour. For the rest of the cuts, I enjoyed them as well although there were two that I didn't try because I was too full (chicken hearts and leg of lamb). My only critique would be that some of the beef cuts tasted the same to me (top sirloin, bottom sirloin, and striploin steak). To finish off a very filling meal, I shared a Fumaca cake and a creme brulee. The cake was very chocolatey with layers of chocolate cake separated by a chocolate icing, then drizzled with more chocolate! I'd recommend sharing it with someone unless your sweet tooth is very strong and you want it all to yourself. The creme brulee was good but tasted like it did at any other place, nothing special about it. Their other dessert choices are cheesecake, apple pie, chocolate mousse, and sorbet. So how would I compare Fumaca with Pampa? I personally enjoyed Fumaca more, as well as my parents who I had shared this dining experience with. Fumaca has more meats to choose from for a better value ($44.99 for 14 meats + grilled pineapple vs. $51.99 for 10 meats at Pampa). I found all the meats at Fumaca to be delicious but during my last visits to Pampa, I noticed that some of the meats had been dry or bland. I'd say that the salad bar at both restaurants are of equal quality. Parking wise, Fumaca has a parking lot right in front of their restaurant whereas at Pampa's Downtown location, you have to find street parking or drive through the back alley to park underground. I do enjoy Pampa's atmosphere more because it's livelier, but if you prefer a quieter environment to dine in, then you'll like Fumaca's. I know that some people will still enjoy Pampa more than Fumaca, so it's up to you to try both restaurants and see which one you like better! Having never explored the Brazilian steakhouse concept before, I was really intrigued to finally check this new spot out. This place was a New Asian Village for as long as I can remember and the new tenants have done a wonderful job of updating the decor. There is a pretty nice wine feature just left of the bar that is super cool if you have a minute before or during dining. So we sit down knowing the gf was going for what looked to be an absolutely incredible salad bar full or hot and cold dishes, while I was going full on slaughter house. So we begin. I grabbed a few roasted veggies from the salad bar to at least make a veiled attempt at nutrition. Then came the meats! I had no idea how this all worked. I kinda had it my mind that a couple of the spits would roll by every 10-15 minutes and you could kind of savour what was lopped off onto your plate. This is not the case! I had 5 of these hunks of protein roll by before I even had a beer in my hand. Definitely a different type of experience for me. The first was a rump steak that was delicious. Nice fat cap and the meat was very tender. Then garlic shrimp, and omg these were my fav of the night, you need to get these when you eat here. But then it's a string of very similar meats with almost identical seasoning. Strip, Ribs, sirloins, all good but not great. Honestly I think they serve too fast. You have this kinda coin thing on your table that instructs the carvers if you want food or not. For me, and whilst understanding I have zero experience in a place like this, the food comes out too fast and furious. I was stuffed in like half an hour. There's lots of pretty good food but it's all heaped on you the second you grab a plate. Everything is really salty for my taste...and I absolutely love salt! Having known how Brazilians like to eat I kinda expected that going in, but after the 5th or 6th meat, it starts to wear on your pallet. Would have been nice if they had introduced a couple different marinades or something to break up the flavour profile a bit. They tried short ribs and failed miserably but I give them credit for the attempt to do them on a rotisserie. Roasted pineapple was a neat idea too, but over seasoned with cinnamon for me making it lose the natural sweetness one would be looking for. Unfortunately the service was pretty bad, the girl we had was just a young thing and I know she had good intentions but she didn't seem to have much of knowledge of the drink menu and was pretty slow to get drinks, clear plates, etc. All in all it was a good dinner but I'm not going back anytime soon. Definitely compliments on the new decor and concept. Pretty decent salad bar according to my lady (although if you wanna call it Mac and Cheese w/truffles you better make it taste like something. Way under seasoned with not a hint of truffle) and some interesting and tasty meaty selections but pretty one note. If you love Brazilian steakhouses let me know what you think. This is one of our favorite places to eat. The staff are very friendly and attentive. They pay attention to what your like and what you have had and make sure to bring you more of your favorite as well as ensuring you have the opportunity to try everything. If you love meat you have to try this place. The location is great on Saskatchewan Drive. Besides the fact that the food is so good, you will also be impressed with the value of the price. Only $39 per person for a Brazilian Steakhouse meal that puts Pampa's to shame. No extra charge for the grilled pineapple is also a nice touch. If you go there on Thursday its half price on their full wine menu. I cant say enough about this restaurant. It is never busy, which worries me. I don't want this place to close. I've been to Brazilian Steakhouse restaurants before in other cities and found the food to be on par. Very disappointed however in one aspect of our experience which I will share. My brother and I were both in the city from other provinces and we found this place on our route Sunday afternoon and well recommended. We ordered drinks and made a pass by the salad bar and had some samplings of meat and fish, which I found tasty enough and was enjoying. My brother however was not. He found himself becoming quite ill (unrelated to the food I'm sure), but unable to eat. It was obvious that he had barely touched his initial serving and we advised our server that he was unable to continue with his meal due to illness. We asked for takeaway, explaining to staff that while we understood that this would normally be out of policy for a restaurant of this nature, the circumstances were obvious. One plate of food, barely touched and unable to continue dining at this time. We hoped that later he might come around and enjoy some of his food. We were flatly refused, without any expression of empathy. I paid the hefty bill, having no second servings myself and we departed. I even left a tip, although I'm not sure why, habit I guess. My Boyfriend and I recently celebrated our anniversary here and I'm so glad we did! The meats were all really good especially the garlic steak and bacon wrapped chicken and my favourites were the shrimp and grilled pineapple, I would say the shrimp were the best I ever tasted! Nice options in the hot and cold buffet, I really enjoyed the mash potatoes and I liked the truffle macaroni. We decided to try it out over pampas . I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The service was immaculate. The meats were juicy and tender . There were 15 different cuts let's just say we were 20lbs heavier by the last cut. To end the amazing array of meat was the grilled pineapple. If I dare say was the best I ever had . The salad bar was average, there was limited diversity in options provided. The truffle Mac and cheese was to die for. They had plenty of parking and the view of the river valley was so romantic. We went here for my birthday dinner, which was a GREAT choice! It was Wednesday night, the restaurant didn't have much people. Actually my bf and me were the only table for a while. As a buffet, they have these good salad and cold plates, and several kinds of hot soup to choose. The waiter who brought out BBQ meat was amazing! He was always on the right time and he also introduced the meat very well. At the end, we were highly recommended to try the roasted pineapple by the waiter. The pineapple was so good. Recommend! It's an experience in addition to a delicious meal. All the staff were attentive and eager to please. The hot and cold salad bar are a very minor player as 90% of the focus is on the hand delivered parade of grilled meat. Do not pass on the rump roast, bacon wrapped chicken or pineapple. A strong effort was put into combining a little dazzle into the decor. The city scape in the background is a nice touch. That place is located where the new asian village used to be. They renovated the place and now is a nice and modern decor.Few minutes after you sit down they come to your table with piece of meat on a spit slice it for you grab it with your tong and enjoy.They give small pieces and they will come as often as you need. No need to rush take your time and enjoy. For lunch they have 3 beef 1 chicken 1 pork 1 sausage and well stocked salad bar with quality products . Our waitress was very nice and she did few things that make me says she was knowledgeable in wine service. At around 25 $ per person it is an excellent deal. Was excited to try this place but was sadly disappointed. It's hard to explain that almost every aspect of the experience was poor. Arrived and was ignored for 5 minutes. Had a reservation but nothing was ready and had to wait 10 more minutes. Ordered drinks, waited over 30 minutes to get them. Started with salad and waited for meat... the salad was meh and very tiny portions, plus the waitress didn't get the items we ordered. They asked how we liked our beef cooked. We asked for medium rare. After an unusual amount of time, the first round of meat arrived cooked brown and tough like leather. I like a trim of fat, but many pieces were 50% fat, and tough. These were not good cuts of meat. The first round was meant to be a sampling of all the meats, but that wasn't what they brought to the table. Other menu items listed on the website were not available (no mac and cheese, no shrimp). We sat for far too long with empty glasses. Took over 30 minutes for our second plate of meat. Not as over-cooked as the first but still much over done. Still fatty. The number of repeated visits from cooks and different wait staff, bringing the wrong things. We weren't the only ones. We overheard several conversations with the wait staff that the items requested had not arrived. There were only 9 active tables, so they were not over busy. We determined that by "All you can eat" they don't mean, "Eat all that you can", they mean "That's all we're bringing, so that's all you can eat". If you want a steak, go to a real steak house. This doesn't make me want to visit Brazil. read more

Was really disappointed in this Brazilian Steakhouse. We reserved a table as we thought it would be busy, we arrived and there was only one other table at 6.30pm which was extremely off putting. The server that seated us was also our bar tender, he served us promptly. Once we received our drinks he instructed us to get plates and salad. After that the meat kept coming, constantly, so you couldn't enjoy the flavours of what was just served or even have conversation with the people you were dining with, you felt very under pressure to eat quickly which should not how a Brazilian Steakhouse is run. As a table we tried to slow down the process but then they stopped bringing out the meats as they didn't have any other tables in the restaurant. Overall I feel that it is way over priced, both the food and the drink with $15 for a glass of wine. For a table of 3 we paid over $280 which in my eyes is ridiculous when it wasn't first class service and we could have simply went to a restaurant and not felt rushed to eat. read more

One of the worst dining experiences of my life. I left a review on Open Table and they deleted my review. When we arrived at the restaurant there were two other couples in the restaurant. We ordered a couple of samples of wine to try before we decided on a bottle. At this time, Adup the owner said he only had one bottle left. We told him we would get a bottle of the sample. He then cane back, Oh, we don't have a bottle left and he directed me to the wine list and said to get a bottle of wine that was $30 more. This was pretty shady. At this time, one of the couples left. We ordered some salads before our meat service. The potato and Greek salad were good. My red meats came out well done instead of medium rare. The last piece of rump steak was good. Wish all of the meat would have been cooked as well. The lamb was tough and fatty. The chicken drumsticks were dried out. Being that the restaurant was so quiet, we expected much better service. Instead, our dirty plate were left stacked on the table for up to an hour. I will never, ever go back to this restaurant. Dinner today was a disgrace after i invited family from out of town. the food was good but the service was soooo bad. We saw a table packing their food into go bags( video evidence available) and when we asked to do the same for our left overs we were to no. we mentioned our observation and our waiter was kind and polite and went to call the manager. he came said that it was because the other table had regulars and that they paid more($15). i highlighted that we could pay more as well and that i am a regular too( i have been there a few times) and they said no that they only do that for certain people. i called them out on this that it was discrimination. as we were talking to the manger calmly a waitress (who was not attending to us nor was she involved) rushed to our table, threw the bills on the table and yelled that we should pay and leave. she carried on shouting at us and the manager just stood there not even calming her down nor apologizing for her behavior. we were so shocked we asked her if she was serious because no one was shouting or swearing. When we tried to communicate with our server( who was calm and owned up to the mistake) she started swearing and charging at our table. the manager took the paying machine for she was even shaking in anger and she left and was screaming at us from the bar telling us how the other table had important people yet she does not even know us. this kind of service is not right at all and is unacceptable for we where highlight an incident we felt was wrong and just excepted a simple sorry and an explanation why some people are allowed to take to go bags and others are not. i am very disappointed because the manager did not handle the situation well and the lady waitress felt it was ok to shout at four grown people as if we are begging for food in their restaurant. how do u expect regulars when your waitress doesn't know how to compose herself and you allow her to talk to customers like that. read more

We are mostly vegetarian at home so we go crazy a few times a year. We enjoyed this much more than Pampa. Meat cuts are better and well seasoned, nice that they include shrimp. The salad bar is smaller than Pampa but of higher quality e.g. nice selection of boutique Olive oils for the salads. Even the feijoada, the brazilian beans, was nicely balanced. This was the absolute worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. First of all they increased the prices from the regular $40 meal to $60 just because it was Valentine's Day and it came with nothing extra (there was no mention of the price increase until the bill arrived). During the visit it took us 2 hours to get our food... and yes it was cold. We asked for more of certain type of meat and it took another hour for it to get to our table (lamb was on the menu and we had to ask 5 times before any brought it too us). There was literally one waitress working who stated she didn't actually work there and had just been called in because no one else could work. When I asked to speak to a manager they told me no he is hiding in the back trying to cook the food and admitted he had no idea how to cook the food he was cooking (didn't find this out until we has already eaten). My husband got food poisoning. We were stuck at this restaurant for 4 hours... after eating I just wanted my bill and it took an hour to get to me... this place is an absolute joke of a restaurant. Please do not eat here unless you want to get upset and sick. read more

This restaurant is by far my favorite one in the city. First of all, they have a parking lot! This is always a bonus for me when trying out new restaurants. They have a wide range of both cold and hot food at their buffet area and much of it is unique. I was also pleasantly surprised at their variety of sauces. I'm a fan of mustard and they had honey mustard which I mixed with their mint sauce! It was delicious. I didn't try as much from the cold and hot buffet food since my priority were the cuts of meat. All of their meats were succulent and flavorful. I wasn't a huge fan of the chicken hearts or lamb, it seemed to be too gamey for my liking but I still wanted to try those cuts of meat. My favorite were the rump steak, sirloin and garlic sirloin. The grilled pineapple that they have is also delicious and balanced out the saltiness of the meat. Now I cannot imagine going to a Brazilian restaurant without the pineapple! The service was also beyond amazing. Despite how busy they were, our server Jeff, and the rest of the staff provided wonderful service. We even had a few fellows ask us how our meal was and we were asked multiple times what other cuts of meat we'd like so that they could get sent directly to us. Hands down this was a wonderful experience and I suggest it to my friends and family. I look forward to going to this restaurant again in the near future.
