I wasn't sure what to expect with them having few hours of operation, but it was cool here! Currently they are just providing samples or you can buy bottles. I tried both the gin and whiskey samples! I'm not a big whiskey drinker, but this was actually really good. They only have limited outdoor seating on the front patio, but it wasn't too busy. My fiancé ended up buying a bottle of whiskey to bring home for his friend. Awesome place! Guys working there were nice too! read more

Well, the K D Wood Distillers tasting room is a place with precisely what a.) Ouray lacked, b.) Mom and Dad needed after several days together on a vacation road trip with our kids. After entering on the ground floor (their distillery level), you proceed to the 2nd floor to find their warm and inviting tasting room. This space features high ceilings with exposed wooden rafters, several wooden tables and chairs and a classic wooden & mirrored bar that is perfectly suited. At the bar, they promptly answer your questions about the drink menu and will take your orders. On the day we made it here (July 4th to be exact), the place was packed with other patrons who were also looking for some cool, tasty beverages. The vibe was upbeat with music, lots of natural light, and fresh air - perfect for this day. We tried a couple of selections - all of which we liked. The Moscow Trail (their version of a Moscow Mule, features Fever Tree Ginger Beer) was top notch as it was well balanced - as was their Old Fashioned. After spending some time indoors, we opted to sit outside on their ample deck - which affords a nice view of the sorrounding mountains. What a great find! My husband spotted their "cocktails" sign on our way into town so we decided to walk down from our hotel once we got settled. Keeghan was there to greet us and take us to the bar upstairs. In warmer weather, it would be nice to sit on the deck but their rustic bar/tasting area was perfect on this chilly night. We tasted all four of their spirits - a vodka, a gin (award winning with lavender notes) and 2 whiskeys. Their vodka and bourbon-style whiskey have blue corn as one of the ingredients which I particularly enjoyed. We finished up with 2 amazing cocktails and for that, our tasting was comp'd. Drove past this place but had to turn around to see what I was missing. So glad I did. The facilities are great. You can see the distillimg equipment when you first enter. The bar tasting room is upstairs. I tasted the Rye and immediately bought a bottle. Had a great talk with the owner about whiskey and his business. All around a great experience. Make a point to stop by. Worth a visit for a drink while enjoying the mountain view. read more

Love the upstairs patio and live music this place had on Friday. The mixed drinks are reasonably priced and taste amazing. We also had a flight of their four liquors (two whiskeys, vodka, gin) that were all very good for only $12. Friendly staff and a great atmosphere. This is an awesome distillery in Ouray, Colorado that distill Whiskey, Gin, and Vodka. They have a Tasting Room upstairs with live bands, a friendly staff, and a beautiful view of the mountains. They have delicious cocktails (wife is having a delicious old fashion while I am trying the spicier new fashion). If you are driving through you should stop in for sure. The Best Old Fashioned and friendly warm atmosphere!

During our visit last month, we overhead a few people in town talking about a whisky distillery - a quick Yelp search yielded this gem. We swung by on a rainy evening following an all-day Jeep tour, and it proved to be the perfect way to unwind. The bar is upstairs, and there's a lovely patio with killer mountain views - sadly the weather didn't cooperate. Onto the drinks - My hubby and sister sampled a few of the whiskeys and ended up opting for full neat pours; I went with a cocktail - can't recall the name, but believe it had muddled blueberries or something similar. The bartender was helpful and knowledgeable, and ended up comping my drink because he didn't make it in a timely manner (admitted that he forgot about it, ha) - much appreciated. I sampled the Ouray Rye, which was fantastic - wishing now that we brought a bottle back to DC with us! There was only one other couple there, and we all enjoyed friendly conversation. The bartender also kept my mom's water glass refilled (not a whiskey fan) throughout, which was nice. I did like the separate water dispenser and glasses available to customers. Wish they were dog-friendly, as a lot of breweries and distilleries are nowadays! We brought our 2 small (and quiet) pups with us to Ouray, and are always looking for dog-friendly activities/venues. Loved the drinks and overall atmosphere - would love to come back and sit out on the patio. Make sure this place gets a spot on your Ouray bucket list! read more

This place is fantastic and such a gem of a find in Ouray! The distillery and tasting room are beautiful, and their craft cocktails are so well-thought out and curated, you really can't go wrong, regardless if you're more of a vodka, gin and/or whiskey drinker. My friend and I shared a sample of all, and they were fantastic. We then moved on to drink our way around the menu, enjoying a number of the delicious drinks. We ended up being the only customers there at the time, and we were extremely taken care of. I can't wait to come back!! read more

I just tried the gin (Jinn Gin) at KJWood and it is incredible. John, the owner/distiller is very friendly and knowledgeable. The gin has very refreshing citrus aromas and is smooth throughout. I highly recommend stopping by for a dram or one of their cocktails and I cannot wait to see what spirits come out next! read more
