Well, the K D Wood Distillers tasting room is a place with precisely what a.) Ouray lacked, b.) Mom and Dad needed after several days together on a vacation road trip with our kids. After entering on the ground floor (their distillery level), you proceed to the 2nd floor to find their warm and inviting tasting room. This space features high ceilings with exposed wooden rafters, several wooden tables and chairs and a classic wooden & mirrored bar that is perfectly suited. At the bar, they promptly answer your questions about the drink menu and will take your orders. On the day we made it here (July 4th to be exact), the place was packed with other patrons who were also looking for some cool, tasty beverages. The vibe was upbeat with music, lots of natural light, and fresh air - perfect for this day. We tried a couple of selections - all of which we liked. The Moscow Trail (their version of a Moscow Mule, features Fever Tree Ginger Beer) was top notch as it was well balanced - as was their Old Fashioned. After spending some time indoors, we opted to sit outside on their ample deck - which affords a nice view of the sorrounding mountains. A welcome new edition to Ouray, head on down and check them out!

Such a beautiful building in the heart of downtown Ouray!

What a great find! My husband spotted their "cocktails" sign on our way into town so we decided to walk down from our hotel once we got settled. Keeghan was there to greet us and take us to the bar upstairs. In warmer weather, it would be nice to sit on the deck but their rustic bar/tasting area was perfect on this chilly night. We tasted all four of their spirits - a vodka, a gin (award winning with lavender notes) and 2 whiskeys. Their vodka and bourbon-style whiskey have blue corn as one of the ingredients which I particularly enjoyed. We finished up with 2 amazing cocktails and for that, our tasting was comp'd. We headed to Brickhouse 737 afterwards for an incredible meal. Thank you, Keeghan for a wonderful experience!

Drove past this place but had to turn around to see what I was missing. So glad I did. The facilities are great. You can see the distillimg equipment when you first enter. The bar tasting room is upstairs. I tasted the Rye and immediately bought a bottle. Had a great talk with the owner about whiskey and his business. All around a great experience. Make a point to stop by. Worth a visit for a drink while enjoying the mountain view.

So before I go into this five star review, here's a couple notes: this place only serves whiskey. Therefore, I'm judging it purely as a whiskey distillery, not as a bar (even though that's what it might be classified as). With that being said, hoo boy. This place rocked.

Love the upstairs patio and live music this place had on Friday. The mixed drinks are reasonably priced and taste amazing. We also had a flight of their four liquors (two whiskeys, vodka, gin) that were all very good for only $12. Friendly staff and a great atmosphere. We will be coming back next time we are in town!

Old Fashion and New Fashion both delicious!

This is an awesome distillery in Ouray, Colorado that distill Whiskey, Gin, and Vodka. They have a Tasting Room upstairs with live bands, a friendly staff, and a beautiful view of the mountains. They have delicious cocktails (wife is having a delicious old fashion while I am trying the spicier new fashion). If you are driving through you should stop in for sure. We will definitely stop by each time we're in Ouray or close by!

The service was terrible. Ordered one drink and it took 25 minutes to get. The place was not at all packed. Also, bartender was not kind.

We had not been to Storm King before but had driven by frequently and wanted to check it out. My partner surprised me by securing reservations to their monthly cocktail making class - very cute date night idea btw. The theme for this night was 'Sips & Dips' which consisted of 3 cocktails paired with some type of dip food item to snack on. The menu covered a nice variety of flavors/styles so there was definitely something for all preferences. Each drink was centered around a different spirit which was nice as well. We were very impressed with the quality, presentation, and easy to follow instruction. This was truly a 10/10 experience. We are already looking forward to attending another!

The bartenders were friendly, knowledgeable, and cared not only about the drink they were making but also about their craft. Being from out of town, we enjoyed hearing stories about the local history and upcoming events. Storm King Distilling offers a rye whiskey, a wheat whiskey, and a "fun" whisky called Side Gig. They also make a white tequila, a tequila aged in oak casks, a silver rum, a vodka, and two types of gin. That night, I tried both gins. My favorite was the barrel-rested gin. It had a nice smoky flavor due to resting in oak barrels that were freshly charred.

We took two seats at the bar and were lucky enough to have Tina helping us, she was so friendly and knowledgeable, really a gem. We started with the fiery passion and the rum sour and were impressed by the complexity of flavors in both, the fiery passion was a real winner, with a taste of passionfruit, and the habanero pineapple in the rum really coming through, but not in a overly sweet way, just enough. The chili sugar rim was a unique way to really set it over the top. The rum sour was also delicious, the Demerara, giving it almost a hint of an old-fashioned, but keeping it light and foamy throughout. Such an incredible set of cocktails. I also had the tomato bisque soup, it was so yummy and cheesy, and the staff were nice enough to bring out some local made bread toasted on the side. Then, Tina made us her own special cocktail, a take on a strawberry spicy rum, with an egg white to give it a delicious foamy texture. All the drinks are delicious, and Tina noted that they were the strongest cocktails in the area, with 2 1/2 shots per drink. We were definitely feeling fun and talkative as we were leaving. This place was so upbeat, with games to choose from, but still keeping a refined mountain vibe. We tried to go back again the next day, but had finished earlier and the bar didn't open yet! Bummer. We don't find our way to crested Butte often but next time we are there, it will surely be a stop.

Breathtaking views, knowledgeable guides, unforgettable adventure!…read more We booked the Alpine Scenic 4x4 Tour of Imogene Pass not fully knowing what to expect--what we got was one of the most memorable experiences of our entire Colorado trip! From the moment we hopped into the rugged, well-maintained 4x4 vehicle, we knew we were in for something special. Our guide (shoutouts to Joe) was not only an expert driver navigating the steep and narrow trails with confidence, but also a wealth of local knowledge--sharing fascinating stories about the mining history, geology, and unique ecosystems along the route. The scenery is absolutely unreal. Towering peaks, waterfalls, wildflowers, and panoramic views around every corner. Reaching the summit of Imogene Pass (over 13,000 feet!) felt like standing on top of the world. Alpine Scenic Tours was professional, fun, and clearly passionate about preserving and sharing the beauty of the San Juans. Whether you're a seasoned adventurer or just looking to explore the high country without the stress of driving yourself, this tour is 100% worth it. Pro tip: Dress in layers--it gets chilly up top!

My wife had heard that Mild to Wild rafting took great care of their clients. Last year at this time, we were wading up the San Miguel river / stream and fly fishing. Shallow water, tranquil pools and great fishing made it a different weekend. When we booked this, I thought it must be a mistake as this stream did not seem strong enough for rafting and narrow in width. What a difference a year makes. The river was full, fierce with heavy water and good class 3 rapids for the next 1 1/2 hour. Big rocks, fast water, big snags and quick currents were the norm today. One had better stay in the boat, as it would troublesome swimming in 42 degree water. Alyssia, our guide was fabulous and serious about following her instructions. She navigated the rocks, snags and fast water. She maneuvered our boat well. For the next 1 1/2 hours, we had 3-4 foot swells and worked the entire trip. We have rafted many rivers and this was one of our shorter trips but a 5/5 on adventure. For a great adventure, beautiful scenery and a gorgeous day, raft with Mild to Wild. You will have a fun filled and adventurous memory for life.
