This was my husband's trip. I just came for the ride. His sole came loose on his dress shoes and he came here to glue them back on. Hopefully they stick for a year or two, till the shoes get a little more wear in them. There isn't a lot of close parking for this place. There are only a few spots out front and they usually taken. There is no loading zone out front, which would be helpful. The extra curb out front is painted red. We took our chances in pulled up in the red zone and I sat in the car. He made a mad dash inside to pick up his shoes. He prepaid so it was a quick stop in. There is more parking across the street, still all metered street parking. If you go earlier enough in the day, you should be able to find a spot. We went around 11am on a Saturday. It wasn't done then so we returned around 2pm the same day. I've been coming to this shop for a while now, way back when it was on 9th Street before they moved to J Street. Every time I bring in my shoes or belts, the work is always excellent. Most recently, I had a pair of shoes where the insoles were completely worn out, but the outside still looked good. He gave me some helpful recommendations, replaced the insoles, and even polished them up. They came out great--felt like a brand-new pair. Whenever I need something fixed whether it's my dress shoes, leather shoes, or belts--this is the only place I trust. Always great service and quality work. I trust Arturo with my shoes. He has been my shoe cobbler for the past 15 years. Overall he has been in business for 28 years... that is a lot of experience. Master shoe repairman. It's a lost craft. Plus he is a pleasant, easy to talk to fella. He recently replaced the heel taps on my block heels on my leather ankle boots. He charges $15 for that repair, plus he polished my boots. Nice! The last time he replaced the taps, they lasted 11 years! Over the years, I've brought my shoes to be shined, kitten heel taps replaced, boot heel taps replaced, leather purse re-stitched, rubber soles re-glued on my cheapie shoes, and extra holes punched on my belts and purse straps. He also sells shoe inserts, water proof sprays, polishes, and refurbished luggage/purses. He has machines that can stretch out leather shoes. He requests payment upfront. Can't blame him for that. Apparently there are a lot of folks that drop and dump... never come back. His shop front has moved. He is now on 912 J Street. It is right on J street between 9th and 10th street, across from Cesar Chavez park. If you purchase $5 worth of service, he can validate $5 off City Parking if you park in the garage. Came here in the referral from a Co worker. Not sure why this small business owner is getting bad reviews, my experience was great so far. Had a pair of Frye's refurbished. Needed new sole, inserts and overall clean up. Was 70 bucks and done right when the owner said they would be. Picked them up and they looked amazing. The owner went over what he did to them and what he fixed. He was kind enough to even buff n shine my other pair of Frye's I was watching 9 in for only 7$. I appreciated his attention to detail so dropped of my Barney's of New York leather jacket to get cleaned and a scratch taken out. Unless he kills that jacket I can only say great things. I can't speak to his shoe repair but I'm being gracious by describing his luggage repair as mediocre. I brought a nice leather bag in for a zipper replacement. The work product was not good. No attention to detail even on a basic level. Looked like a rush job with frayed stitching that looked like a drunk person did it. He used glue in a sloppy manner that left excess glue all over the leather. No effort was made to make it appear like it was not a repair. Poor quality work. The only thing I can say is I should of known better ecause he quoted me only $50. My fist impression was that this was too cheap and I should have ran. You do get what you pay for so 2 instead of one stars for that. Maybe get your shoes shined here but don't have any detail work done here. read more

I had been seeing the same cobbler close to my home ever since I started my professional career over a decade ago. Unfortunately, his service started to decline and I was in quite a rut not knowing who else I could trust. One day I was scheduled to travel for work on a Sunday and realized on Saturday morning that I needed to repair my navy pumps. My cobbler was closed on weekends but I saw that K.S. was open. Arturo was courteous, knowledgable and fixed my shoes on the spot for a very reasonable price. I was absolutely blown away that I found a quality cobbler on the first try and, needless to say, this is going to be my new shoe repair shop. I dropped off a designer handbag and wallet for repair today and I'm sure they will be repaired just as well. read more

After getting fabulous advice from other Yelpers, I took three pairs of busted shoes into K's for fixing. I took in two pairs of boots that were missing the end caps on the heels (I have no clue what the heck they're called....they're cheap boots but dammit, they can get around my "sturdy" calves so I've got to take care of them!), and I had decimated the heel on another pair of shoes. I had even tried to super glue it back on because it broke while I was at work, and only managed to make a bigger mess of it. I was worried that they would be beyond repair, but I was totally wrong. Not only did he fix all three pairs, but he buffed, polished, shined and did general maintenance on them. They looked faboo, and all that for $40. My only complaint about this place was parking, which is a bitch and a half. But, if you pull up front and call him, he will run your shoes out to you if you can't find parking (this was his suggestion). I'm wearing my repaired boots right now, and I couldn't be happier. read more

KS Shoe Repair fixed a click and squeak in my Cole Haans that I had been trying to get repaired for over a year. This guy knows his stuff and my shoes are perfect. So, I have a pair of Cole Haan Warren oxfords that I bought a couple of years ago. After about a month of wear, the left shoe developed a click and squeak with every step. I returned the shoes and got another pair, and the same thing happened. After a few months, I got so annoyed that I sent the shoes off to Cole Haan's affiliated repair service. All they did was replace the insoles and hammer a few nails into the bottom of the shoe. Didn't fix the noise. Then I talked to a few cobblers around town who told me that squeak repairs are hit and miss and they can't guarantee that they could solve the problem. Finally, I brought my shoes into KS Shoe Repair. As soon as I started explaining the issue, the cobbler (don't know his name) knew exactly what I was talking about. He brought out a shoe that was already disassembled to show me what was making the noise and how it could be fixed. One week and $78 later, my shoes are super quiet and the soles and heels look like new. They discontinued this style, so I really wanted to repair these shoes. Thanks, KS! read more

I have been here 3 times now, twice for myself, and one with a friend, all for the same issue: replacing caps on stilettos. This is my ongoing heel problem. No matter how expensive the shoe, the caps wear out and eventually completely disintegrate if I let it go too long, leaving me walking on straight metal, and eventually eating it in front of people. Yikes. Yeah, that's happened. A few times. My first visit occurred because I was at work at the nearby Capitol and one of my heel caps completely came off during work. I hobbled over and inquired about a repair. He asked when I needed them by, and I explained they were literally what I was wearing at work, right then. He stopped the purse he was working on, took them back while I sat shoeless in the waiting area, and 5 minutes later returned with perfectly repaired pumps for $10. IMMEDIATE service! Same end-caps problem with the shoes I brought in today. Again, he inquired about timeline. I told him it wasn't urgent, but it's a little harder for me to get to this location now that I no longer work down the street - without hesitation, he told me just to come back in about 20 minutes and he'd have them done. The only caveat I have is that the first pair I brought was black, and this pair is nude. He replaced the caps on this pair with dark brown caps. I'm actually totally fine with that and I think the shoes still look great, but I do think some people might have an issue, and it should be something he at least mentions before making the repair. I would give a 4.5 for that reason, but erred on the side of 5 because my personal experiences, and his fantastic attitude and immediate, fast service are exceptional. Otherwise, this saves me hundreds from buying new shoes every time the caps wear out when the shoe is otherwise in great shape, and I'll absolutely be back. read more

I've brought maybe 10+ pairs of heels/boots here and have been satisfied with the work. Some of the older reviews made K's sound like some sort of miracle worker - well, he's not, but he's a decent cobbler. When I first started going here the owner seemed a bit cold towards me but after I continued to bring in shoes for him to zipsole (i.e. put sole guards on leather-soled shoes) he started to warm up to me, and for good reason because getting sole guards cost about $19/pair! They have held up well and now I can prance around in 4" heels at work and not worry about slipping on the marble floors. I've also had heel caps replaced after the screw in my stiletto came through and started click-clicking on concrete, and everything has held up well. Once I had a pair of expensive nude patent leather pumps that had some black marks from who-knows-where. He was very patient and kept my shoes for almost a week, trying various solutions to try to remove the marks but to no avail. He charged me for the initial labor but did not charge me extra for the additional attempts, and I am thankful for that. I would not recommend K's for sewing jobs - I had a BR tote with a broken shoulder strap and he charged me $3 to sew it back on, $12 if I wanted all four straps reinforced/reattached. When he was done I noticed the strap was securely sewn back on but a bit crooked and in a non-matching thread (tote was black and the thread was brown). Not a big deal in my case, but for bigger jobs (like the Yelper below's purse lining) I would not bring my stuff here. He's a bit pricey (and prices just went up - now it costs $20 and some change to zipsole a pair of shoes due to the cost of rubber, allegedly) but overall the worksmanship is good. I would recommend him but at the same time wonder if I'm paying too much, so I can't give the full 5 stars. read more

My shoe guy retired in April (next door to Amarin Thai), I had been going to him for 8 years! Like Reina M., I am very skeptical when taking my shoes anywhere, so I too, trusted the yelpers, and I'm very happy with the results! I took in two pairs of black heels, they were both getting low, but my need became escalated when my darling auggie (ruf) discovered the taste of a high heel stem to be delicious! So off to K's I go, right in the heart of 5 p.m. after work traffic. As stated in previous reviews, it's a pain in the butt to park. I finally found a spot right in front of his shop, and I have NO Quarters, and it's an old meter! Luckily the owner of K's was standing outside his shop and he took a quarter right out of his pocket and put it in the meter. He got my business! But I have to remember quarters next time!! He did a great job, for only about 8.50 each. My only negative comment is similar to Reina's about the size of the heel caps being a bit larger than my heal. I have a feeling if I noticed this there, he probably would have fixed it on the spot! read more

I didn't know it even existed until I was searching for a shoe repair place on Yelp.... and I work within blocks and am constantly in need of heel cap replacements on one pair of shoes or another! Admittedly, I checked this place out after calling another cobbler in the neighborhood (closer to home) and being told that they had so many repair jobs they were telling people to pick-up after the holidays. **Side rant: I know EVERYONE has a shoe emergency right now, but several weeks?! Really?!** Anyway, I was a little hesitant about going to KS due to the mixed reviews. But I'm sure happy I did!Walked in during lunch hour and the gentleman working put down his work to greet me and ask how he could help. I told him I needed some heel cap replacements and help making a few scuffs less noticeable - on 3 pairs of heels. I asked if it miiiiight be possible to get just one by the end of the day. To my very pleasant surprise, the gentleman followed up with "just one pair? How about all 3 today?" As a huge smile slipped its way from ear-to-ear, he continued to ask me if I could pick them up in 45 minutes! I was already happy, but this sent me over the top! I ended up grabbing them at the end of the work day. The gentleman remembered me, brought my shoes over, and took the time to show me his work. Shoes look great! Overall, a very pleasant experience, and comparable prices to other places I have gone to. Definitely will be coming here more often given the convenience and speedy service. read more

I was randomly looking for a shoe repair store quite some time now. I've always wanted to get a pair of my heels repair but never had the time to. Procrastination is part of life. The back strapping area actually came off and its was something I need to repair. These heels are comfortable and discontinued. K's was actually the closes shoe repair store to home. Although their reviews on yelp wasn't as great, I figure I will just give them the benefit of the doubt. I was there and out in 15 minutes. The owner was very helpful and explain the strap he will use to repair and said it cost $14 dollars exact. I was actually very impress and satisfied. terrible, Terrible, TERRIBLE I should have listen to the reviews on Google. This guy used two DIFFERENT sized replacement soles on my boots!! Not only that, the new soles did not flush against the welt properly. All around the boots there are pitches and valleys where the new soles should be flushed against the welt. A whole section of a heel is sticking out away from the boot in one instance. The boots are black yet you can see the white glue around the edges all too well. Look at the attached pictures. Check out how the soles are miss-matched. Look at the toe area of the left boot. See how the pattern is whacked. He shaved off a considerable amount of the sole at the toe area on the left boot and also shaved off a considerable amount from the heel on the right boot. This guy's job is ridiculous and an abomination! He must be sniffing the shoe glue over there!! I'm not bothering taking them back. I will probably hear some ridiculous crap from him. If you want some whacked service done on your soles take your shoes here. read more
