This place deserves more 5-star ratings! My now husband took me here on a date almost 8 years ago, and we recently returned to eat dinner and grab the iconic watermelon soju. This place is so fun! All the food we got (tteobokki, kimchi pancake, fish cake soup, kimchi jiggae) was so good. Vibes are great and they take res or walk in - there's a lot of seating. Our waitress was super nice. Usually it's been one of the following: - budae jungol $35: hot pot with beef bone broth, kimchi, assorted pork, American cheese, glass noodles, and vegetables. All the above are solid, leaning saltier* and better eaten with a side of rice. Portion sizes are good for the price, flavors are tasty and pretty consistent with other casual Korean restaurants along 32nd St. For the spice un-initiated, the sauce/broth for the first 3 items might look red, but the spice level is pretty moderate/mild. For those interested in dining in, the restaurant is located in a basement in one of the buildings on 32nd Street in the heart of Ktown. The set up is very casual with a number of longer tables for larger groups and smaller tables and booths for 2-6 people. Think easy low-key place to hang out and enjoy a meal. We must have gotten there at a good time because we were able to get a booth, which was a little tight for 6 people, but we made it work. K Town Pocha is located under ground, but what it lacks in windows, it makes up for with a cool, hip atmosphere, blasting pop music with fun decor. K Town Pocha is best enjoyed with a group, as most of their popular drinks and food are meant to be shared. Our group ordered a beer tower and a pineapple soju served in a real pineapple. The beer was standard, but great with the food we got, but I loved the soju. The pineapple container sweetened the drink and it disappeared quickly, leading me and my drunken friends to bite into the pineapple to get just a little bit more of that sweet and sour flavor. For food, wings and tteokbokki are my suggestions. Korean fried wings are super crispy and K Town seasons theirs on the sweet and salty side. Tteokbokki are chewy bite size rice cakes. K Town serves them a few ways, regular, spicy (not for the faint of heart), and rose which is more "tomatoy" and less "koreany". K Town's tteokbokki comes with fish cakes and hardboiled egg and can be served with cheese too. Despite the hectic ambiance, our server was efficient at taking our orders when we needed refills or more food. And the drinks and food came out very quickly. Down a flight of stairs K Town Pocha's ambiance is welcoming and so fun with K-Pop playing and decor that resembles a hole-in-the-wall spot in Seoul.
