Happily stumbled upon this place on our way out of Houston, after attending a FIFA World Cup game. This place is a hidden gem! Locally and family owned, we were warmly welcomed upon entering and everyone was so nice and generous with answering questions and providing samples as needed. Various prepped meat skewers were displayed behind the refrigerated counter and ready to be cooked- dishes are made fresh! Loved the variety of the simple menu. You can pick your base, protein, and lastly two sides. We sampled the okra, daal , and Afghan rice- all were delicious! Ordered : Chicken koobideh with daal and fries - delicious seasoned tender chicken atop fragrant Afghan rice. The fries were nice and crisp and drizzled with some of their specialty sauces and the daal, like a soup, was perfecto! Chicken koobideh atop Greek salad without feta. Knowing that I had a slight intolerance to dairy, they offered me a sample of all their sauces. Love!! I dipped my salad and chicken into all of them- garlic, spicy, green. For my sides - daal which they put into a bowl for me so as to not spill into my other items ( very thoughtful!) and eggplant. At the time they were sold out of the popular dish, I was disappointed and I think they couldn't help but notice the expression on my face..... but, as I was trying to figure out my other side, a shipment of eggplant came in! And they made it fresh for me! Sliced, cooked eggplant topped with a homemade tomato sauce. Came here since it was close. Looked pretty good and had nice reviews. Walked in and was greated by I'm guessing owner. He explained about their dishes and how everything is made home made.. They seemed very proud of their food which is a good start. Was going to order lamb plate but last minute I changed to pita wrap. The meal came with fries and drink. Total came up to around $17.31 which I feel like it was little on the high end. I was disappointed to see that they did not have a drink fountain and I had few choices of can soda from a drink cooler. Not a deal breaker but I hate paying for drink at a restaurant and I get a can soda. My food came and looked yummy. I was pleasantly surprised to see the fries topped with sauces. Started with fries and they were nice and jot/crispy. Extra sauces on them made them more flaverful. I took my bite with pita wrap and, man was it yummy. Full of flavor, I think it was lamb or lamb and beef gyro. I don't remember what the guy told me but it was very yummy. It was probably the best gyro/pita wrap that I've ever had. I've been to this spot 4x now for lunch and I'm just gonna say they are on my rotation for really good Mediterranean Food. I've had their lamb & beef koobideh which are good & flavorful, however, I'm impressed with the chunks (not slices) of tender meat on the gyro wrap. I also like that you can see them putting on the toppings & you can ask for more or less while they are making it. The Afghan salad isn't for me. It's a very strong mint taste which perhaps is a standard ingredient but it caught me off guard as one who doesn't prefer mint. I've only done to-go, but they also have several tables for you to dine-in. For lunch, I will say you definitely should order ahead & allow ample time. They get really busy & the last couple times I visited, my order wasn't ready 20-25 min after I ordered it in advance. Hopefully they can figure out a formula to handle the lunch crowd as to not run off customers with limited time. With that said, the food is good. Give them a try! read more

If you want a mix of Afghan and Mediterranean food then check out Kabab Shack & Grill. We enjoyed the chicken, beef and lamb wraps. The lamb koobideh plate with Afghan rice was delicious. They offered mild, spicy, and no spice. We preferred the mild as the spicy was a little too spicy. The sides on the plate were sauced fries, eggplant, and salad. They add a coriander chutney on the sides which gives a tangy flavor. Food was served hot and brought to our table. The restaurant was clean and spacious with a casual atmosphere. Everytime hands down best gyro in Houston rn. Remember when all those beef gyro places were trending and the used to sear the meat so you had that crisp? Now it's all pre sliced and it's like cafeteria style. Look they might be a little pricier than others in the area but the meat is always fresh never frozen and if you order late afternoon till close they might be out of items but that's because they aren't wasting they aren't carrying it over day after day. Chicken kabob is great, ribeye bowl my favorite and the brown rice and sauces are fantastic. I usually skip the veggies and do just rice and meat. Legit just the rice alone is delicious read more

Hefty portions and everything is really delicious. They were out of the Afghan salad but an extra Greek salad was just fine. I really liked their eggplant and the spinach. Pitas were super soft and fluffy, and the Afghan rice is delicious. Sauces were just right and hit the spot. Definitely would keep this in my regular rotation. read more

Wow this place really works for me. I love Mediterranean cuisine but Kabab Shack & Grill brings a cultural twist that offers a distinctive flavor that sets them apart. The staff was patient explaining the menu to this first timer in their restaurant. The dining room was surprisingly spacious and well decorated. My order was a takeout but look forward to future visits enjoying my meal hot off the grill. I grab two plates, Beef Koobideh and Lamb Koobideh. The Beef dish was over a Greek salad with sides of spinach and lentils. My Lamb sat on rice with sides of lentils and chic peas. Honestly, there were no misses for me. The side dishes were absolutely full of flavor, can't go wrong so pick any of the half dozen options. As much as I loved both the Lamb and Beef, the Beef Koobideh was my favorite. Very good. The staff were welcoming and helpful. I ordered an Afghan plate that comes with two sides. The gyro meat and rice were solid. The salad wasn't soggy nice and crisp with a taste of mint. They make their own spicy sauce and it didn't disappoint. The heat was still lingering in my mouth when I left the restaurant. Don't forget the dessert. INCREDIBLE! Reminded me of the afghani inspired food in the Northeast where I'm from. Incredible white sauce, amazing hot and green sauce, the chicken was properly marinated and grilled perfectly. The owner Ali is fantastic and will take care of you, he genuinely cares for you to have a good meal and honestly the pricing is very fair for a meat, rice and 2 sides. I'll be going back OFTEN! The portion was more than enough and everything was cooked to perfection!!! The flavors were outstanding to say the least. I couldn't stop eating. This place is the absolute best! It's very close to my work so I tend to pop over when I am in the mood for a great gyro. I am very much a creature of habit and usually order and stick to the same thing, but I have decided to make it a point to expand my choices on future visits to return here with a well rounded update review. Until then, I find that the owner(s) is/are great and always welcoming and make sure their patrons are happy and satisfied. It's a small shop with ample seating and the food is available for take out as well. I recently discovered how my expectations have increased due to Kabob Shack's wonderful food as they now set the bar for any other gyros I've ordered from other establishments and have found many don't measure up. Most recently I tried their competition in the same center and was so disappointed with what I ordered, that I made my way back to KS that same week to make up for it. If you simply want a great tasting gyro wrap with tons of flavor you can't go wrong with their lamb/beef gyro wrap (my favorite!) The meat is always so flavorful, the sauce just the right amount of garlic, and the pita is sooo soft and fresh. My mouth is watering as I write this, but be warned, the spicy is very spicy, at least for me. If you are not a fan of spicy you can request no spice without concern of losing flavor as it is every bit as savory with or without spice. KS does not skimp on anything. The hummus is also wonderful and I usually order it to share as it can be a great deal of food otherwise. I like that there is emphasis on the fresh without emphasis, you just taste it in every bite from the protein to the pitas. I believe this is what makes Kabob Shack stand out for me and sets the bar for other restaurants of the same to live up to in general. I highly recommend! Try it out. read more

I recently tried their chickpeas, chicken koobideh wrap, and chicken kebab platter with salad and fries, and let me tell you, my taste buds were in heaven. They also didn't hold back on the sauce for the wrap, which I loved - it was packed with flavor and spice! Not only is the food fantastic, but the prices are also very reasonable. We ordered delivery from their Facebook to Website system. It was easy and kept us informed the whole way with texts and you can track the delivery driver through part of Door Dash. Very friendly place with great smells and well cared for. I was assisted by Kamran who quickly determined it was my first visit. Kamran gave me the tour of the menu and ordering process, kept up with me on my several order changes, asked a few questions, and then with the help of the crew had me out the door in a few minutes with my lamb, Afghan Salad and of course baklava.
