I was in the mood for their food and so headed over. I love the fact that the waiter has an incredible memory and always knows what you like to eat and drink, very impressive, and he is welcoming for your visit to their restaurant. This is a hidden little gem in the back of a long strip mall and definitely a place you should add to your try list. It's not fancy to look at, but I always feel comfortable coming in here, and they can easily accommodate large parties. As usual, they brought a refreshing lettuce salad. Once I finished that off I ordered the Mantu appetizer. Mantu is stuffed with a wonderful ground beef filling, a little pocket of deliciousness, a tiny spicy heat to it, and a moist sauce that rounds out the flavor, and is finished with a generous sprinkle of sumac. It's a delicious light dumpling!! My favorite dish that I keep ordering over and over is the Showra. This is a super flavorful broth in which a lamb shank sits along with a potato. It sounds so simple, and it is, but I think it's absolutely wonderful. I've never seen a naan prepared the way they do their version. Pull off pieces and dip that into the broth so that it gets all soggy and delicious :-). They serve it with a small side of onion and lemon, and I squeeze the lemon juice into it and dump the onion into the hot broth. I like to finish the meal with the light Firni milk pudding sprinkled with chopped pistachios. While eating here, you could run next-door to the market if you need some Halal meat. I have been there 3 times for Lunch in 2026. it is not located in the nicest area and likely not looking extremely pretty inside but it is very authentic. The personnel is very friendly and they remembered me when I showed up the second time. I have only taken the chicken and the lamb chops so far - both with rice. I usually order a Kind of Tsatsiki extra. Pricing is very reasonable. At least for lunch no reservation is needed. Plenty of parking outside. read more

Came here after seeing a video about this place online and I have to say I was honestly underwhelmed. I came during lunchtime and it was completely empty but I still opted to dine in anyway, so I could get the real experience. The first booth I wanted to sit in was dirty, so I went to a different one which I eventually realized still had crumbs on it as well. I ended up placing my order and just telling her to make it to go bc I just wasn't feeling it. I ordered the lamb chops which on the menu had the full bone on it so you could easily pick it up and eat, but when I got my order, it didn't have the bone which I thought was a bit odd. In general, I feel like the rice and the lamb chops could've used more flavor. The little spicy sauce they provided helped though. read more

My visit here was the first Afghani food I've had, and I will definitely be back for more! My wife and I shared the bolani - which is like a seasoned pancake stuffed with leeks, potatoes, and cilantro - and the teka beef kabob with rice. The service was quick, and you could tell that the food was fresh off the grill! It was quiet the night we went there - less than half of the tables were being used, but it may have been later than their normal dinner crowd would be there. I don't believe I've had afghan food before so I decided to try this place out after having my car serviced nearby. I ordered online, each of their menu items have photos which was helpful. Upon walking inside, it was still early for dinner so it was empty but very clean and nicely decorated. I was promptly informed that my meal was still being prepared, I only waited a few minutes for it to be received. I decided to try Mantoo, a dumpling with a spiced meat filling served with a yogurt and a spiced ground meat tomato sauce. It was interesting but very good. I also ordered Challow Kabob. It's like a grilled spiced ground beef with onions. It's also served with a side salad, yellow basmati rice and a grilled tomato. I would compare it to a kofta maybe because it reminded me of the warm spices. Salad was a nice fresh accompaniment and the fluffy tender rice was delicious. This is an authentic Afghan restaurant in Houston that's owned by the cutest family. It's a very casual no frills place but the food was absolutely delicious. The Quabili Pallow (their spelling) was nice and flavorful with fall of the bone lamb. They were kind enough to serve it without raisins although it does come with it traditionally. The chapli kabob is also the best i've had in town, perfectly juicy and spiced but still slightly charred. I would highly recommend if you're in the area and craving Afghan food. read more

I've had a favorite Afghan restaurant in Houston for a while now, but I'm glad I found this place because it's actually closer to my home. Very similar menu, similar prices as my other favorite, probably the same owner, just different names, but I will probably be coming to this location a lot more now. I order the typical dishes, and they are superb. I also love getting to-go orders, as they work great for get-togethers with friends. The dishes I just can't get enough of are the chapli kabob and lamb curry. They're just so addicting. They're spicy though, so if you can't handle the heat, then I'd suggest ordering other items. We went to this place last night in a large party. The food is fantastic. If you've never had Afghan food before, its a blend of Persian and Pakistani food. It's not as spicy as Pakistani, but there is flavor from spices unlike Persian food which relies mainly on the flavor of the meat. We started with a Bolani as an appetizer, which was quite good. Its a modified version of aloo partaha (paratha with potatoes). The Chopan Kabob (lamb chops) were excellent. Not gamy and very tender. The Afghan naan was excellent. Overall excellent food. I am so happy they opened up this place in north side! I have dined in, tasted their catering, and also have ordered from Uber Eats and every time I eat their food, it never disappoints. The ambiance is a little more hole in the wall type, but it's clean which is good enough for me. The service is always good anytime I dine it. I love love love their Bolani and Borani Banjan! I went to this restaurant because of all the good reviews, thinking that even if it isn't fabulous, it still must be pretty good. Well, not so much. Let's start with the food. I got the combination kabob so that I could get a little variety. I got the chicken kabob and one of the ground beef kabobs. The chicken was the best part of the meal. Lots of flavor. Nice grilled char to it. Chunks of tender white meat chicken. Really good. The ground beef was not as good. It wasn't bad. It just didn't have a lot of flavor to it. It came with rice (pretty good) and a slightly grilled tomato half. It was a decent, not great lunch. And if that was it, this would be a three star review. But the service was almost non existent. It seems like a family run restaurant, and the young man waiting on me seems like one of the family. And it was clear he had no experience waiting tables. He showed me my table, and then disappeared for a while. Now, I am the only one in the restaurant. For the whole time I'm there. One person came in for a to-go order, but that was it. So eventually my waiter comes back to take my order, including my drink order. I order my food and a water. He disappears. I'm waiting; I'm waiting; I'm waiting, thinking "Where's my water?" I mean it's the golden rule of the restaurant business: customers don't sit without a drink in front of them. Ever. It's the one thing that pisses people off...not having a drink or not having their drink refilled. I'm just about to get up and go look for somebody to bring me a water when he appears with my meal and...a bottle of water...a warm bottle of water. First of all, if you're going to SELL someone a bottle of water instead of bringing them tap water, you let them know. Getting free water with your meal is still pretty universal in America, and when it doesn't happen, it's a problem. Secondly, you never serve a warm beverage unless it's supposed to be warm. It's like Restaurant Management 101 stuff. So he drops off my meal and water. I'm eating my pretty good meal. I'm drinking my water. The waiter is nowhere to be seen. I finish my bottled water and want another. Nope. So I finish my meal dry. I'm done. I put my plates off to the side and wait. And wait. Eventually he comes back, asks me if I want anything else. No just the check. He takes away the plates. And I sit. And sit. And sit. He's at the back of the dining room behind a counter and I think he's getting my bill. But I'm still sitting. Finally I'm tired of waiting and I get up and start to walk over to him and he comes rushing over with my bill. I pay. I tip him 10%...something I RARELY do...and I leave, NEVER TO RETURN AGAIN. read more

We placed a to go order from here. This place definitely does not disappoint! Ambience: The restaurant is located in a shopping strip and has a large sign. The inside of the restaurant is very clean and decorated with middle eastern tapestries. Private parking lot is available. Food: This my first time having authentic Afghan food, parts of it are very similar to Persian food crossed with Pakistani or Indian food. I find the heat level to be more mild and aligned with Persian cuisine. What I noticed is that it appears that a key component of the entrees is to really highlight the flavor and quality of the meat. Quabili Pallow: The lamb shank was tender, juicy, and flavorful. Chapli kabob: Well seasoned and spicy ground beef, the flavor of this tastes similar to a Karachi burger (Pakistani street food) Chicken kabob: Tender chicken that is flavorful but mild in heat, very similar to Persian chicken kabobs The entrees are served with a side salad that is paired with a spicy dressing. The rice is seasoned well and not over cooked. It pairs well with the mast-e-khair (cucumber and mint yogurt). The naan is thin with a crispy outside. Tandoori kabob house is my Houston go-to spot for tasty, flavorful afghan food. I ordered the Chapli kabob plate which was loaded with flavor, from the perfectly made rice to the well prepared kababs. I also tried the lamb shank plate, lamb was juicy and slightly smoky roasted flavor. Absolutely loved it and can't wait to order it again. Great restaurant. Kind of a hole in the wall, and maybe not a place you'd think to stop in, but genuinely good food. Kind staff... some of the dishes are more of a western (Dari) style than you might get from other Afghani places where the operators are from the eastern half, so it's an interesting difference in this part of town. The lamb is fall off the bone excellent... our favorite is definitely the Korma Challow. The chapli kebab is also great. The bolani is a great appetizer. We've introduced a number of folks who do not like South or West Asian food and they have all been very surprised and satisfied. read more
