Qabuli Palau

Friendly staff, clean place, but very run down interior. Had the Qabuli Palau lamb dish, and the meat was pretty tender and well cooked. The rice was also pretty good, paired with the spicy chutney sauce (ask for, on the side). I didn't like the raw shaved carrots on the dish, or the random quarter of tomato and the raw onions, I don't think these are needed in the dish. Overall, friendly staff and good experience if you want to try Afghani food.

Yummy GOAT! GOAT! GOAT!

Food: The goat, the Goat, the G-O-A-T!!! OMG! Fresh, Tender, Delicious and just the perfect spice level. The scrumptious rrrrrrrrrrice and the yummy garlic naaaaaan oooowwweeeee!!!! I've had deliciously cooked goat before but not like this y'all, this meal was on a whole different level! Service: Service???? I-M-P-E-C-C-A-B-L-E!!!! I called and the guy who answered the call was such a gentleman. I walked in and was immediately greeted. The first sound of my voice and he KNEW who I was despite the fact that I had never been there before! I asked him how did know who I was he said, "it's your voice". Can I say that made my day and my week? I was like awww thank you, lol. It really doesn't take much to put a smile on my face. Atmosphere: Welcoming, clean, neat and the perfect vibes. Y'all, everyone working there was so pleasant and friendly. I can't wait to go back and try something else on the menu.

Afghan Village is a humble establishment whose food speaks volumes. This dinner was so good it left me shook. I enjoyed everything. Our waiter was servicing the entire restaurant, but they worked as a team and did good under the circumstances. He made eye contact and did a great job reading the room. He also set clear expectations for food arrival. They sent out a complimentary naan and Bouranee. It's an eggplant, tomato, and yogurt dish. It was delicious. So fresh and flavorful. It really showed the chef had an experienced hand with balancing flavors. Next came the Qabuli Palau a flavorful rice dish with lamb shank. The garnishes to it provided texture and contrast to the dish. My dog thoroughly enjoyed that bone when I got home. We also had the Goat Karhai. Omg it was goooooooood. That sauce with it had us dipping naan to the last drop. Now let's talk about the naan. The plain was great and we got the garlic chili naan also. Both well prepared and hot. Our last dish was the Tandoori Kabob. That chicken was seasoned to the bone and tender. The hummus was not my fav but after all those other amazing things who really cares. We were well fed and satisfied by our feast. Most definitely go to this place asap you will not be disappointed.

First, a local spot that is open until midnight always deserves props. And the food is exceptional. The mantoo, Afghan dumplings topped with yogurt, were home and delicious. The bouranee is one of the best eggplant dishes I have had recently, and dipped into with their fresh naan was very satisfying. Loved everything here. Service was polite and friendly.

This was my first time trying Afghani food and you best believe I will be trying more hereafter. I got the Mantoo dumplings and it was delicious. So delicious that I want to make it over and over again MYSELF. We also got the lamb karahi which was super delicious. The food is very similar to Indian food but I felt it was more citrusy which is nice. The kabobs were excellent, along with the rice. It's a mom and pop restaurant with excellent food. I cannot wait to try more food like this!

Dumplings, goat meat, bolani, dumplings all fantastic

This place is amazing. The food is absolutely delicious. The meats are full of flavor and tender. I recommend trying coming here a few times and trying everything. I absolutely love the dumplings and bolani.

Authentic Mediterranean food can definitely be found here! The taste is so on point! First off, I'm so glad they have pictures on their menu, and the pictures on Yelp definitely helped my selection. My friend and I started off with the bolani which is a potato stuffed naan and it was sooo good! Great appetizer to start with and enough to make it an entree really. We also tried the mantoo (mantu) which is a beef dumpling. This is probably my favorite dish because it was so unique and flavorful! Definitely plenty of food and a popular dish. I also got to try the chapli kabob with the rice. The beef patty was good, but I actually really liked the rice. There was a great portion to fill you up. Overall, I loved the food and it was superb! The service wasn't the best to be honest. I don't expect much from a mom and pop shop like this, but it just sucked that we had to keep asking to see if we needed to order at the front, or at the table. It just felt like every step requires us to take initiative. I did like the decorations and it was very authentic. I would definitely come again for the food because it was great and an affordable price.

Kofta, i think that was the name It's beef meatballs with potatoes. Tasted Incredible.

This is probably my new favorite restaurant in Houston. Afghan food is the best kept secret on the planet. The meat dishes are well seasoned and super tender. The flavors are exciting. From an outsider perspective, it tastes like a mix between Persian food and Indian food. It's seasoned more aggressively than Persian but less heavy than Indian food. Don't want to offend anyone, just my opinion. I eat both Persian and Indian regularly, so it felt very familiar and seemed like a great fusion.

Steve H.

I'd wanted to try Afghan Village for a while and when the opportunity presented itself I jumped at it. Both the food and the environment were amazing. I cant say enough about the service. We ordered quite a bit and the chef still sent us extra things to try. If you're at all interested in trying Afghan food then do not skip out on eating here.

The way the place is laid out, you go in, hop in line, and then claim a table after paying. A science specifically says not to hold the table before paying because it's unfair... First time I have seen a sign like that, but I get it. Honestly I was expecting just a sprinkle of brisket on top of the mac, but it was a hefty amount, and WOW WOW was it good! I added both of the homemade sauces to my food so I could taste the differences. The kick was nice, but I really did love the sweeter one. The sausage was good too, but I wish I got the jalapeno cheese one. I had opted not to since I already had so much mac and cheese. As if the barbecue wasn't good enough, they had a bar with a really friendly bartender who is eager to give city recommendations. It was thursday, and they had tequila deals, including some very strong $6 margaritas. We only did one round, and that was all we needed. We were also able to watch the World Cup game there. It was a total vibe and I know I would go back whenever I visit again. Geez, what is the other BBQ like in the city?!

We felt like we spent an appropriate amount of money when a very nice young lady came to our table who was apparently the manager, and told us that our time was up at the table that the other people were waiting and that we really needed to leave.! I have never had that happen in a restaurant even in a Michelin star restaurant have I been asked to leave because my time at the table was up.! It really ruined our experience and it made us feel very rushed quickly, jumping up and getting out of the place. I have not seen these friends in a long time and I just really hated the way it ended... I suppose I will go back because I do love the food there, however, I know I will be on a timeframe when I walk in there, and I will be thinking about that the whole time I'm sitting at the table Has anyone else ever had this happen in any restaurant ever???? One thing we really appreciated was the toppings bar, which included pickles, onions, pickled onions, jalapeños, and two different barbecue sauces so you could customize each bite. They even had a mini soft-serve ice cream machine for a little dessert after your meal, which was a nice touch. They also offer family meal options, making it a great choice for larger groups. The restaurant was clean, had plenty of seating, and the staff was friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. This is a nicely sized spot next to the Jusgo plaza in Houston Chinatown, so plenty of parking and also food options. It's tucked in a corner but should not be written off. Its a pretty casual sitdown restaurant and we were welcomed and sat pretty quickly on a Saturday around 8:30PM. We were provided menus and started ordering everything that sounded good (within reason for 2, sorta). We ended up getting the Uyghur polo with lamb shank, Uyghur goshnaan, korma chop, garlic cucumbers, mint tea, and a yogurt for dessert. This was more than enough food for 2 but I wanted to try a bunch and this is me holding back. The Uyghur goshnaan was very crispy and the filling was flavorful and juicy, good lamb flavor and nice spices. The Uyghur polo with lamb shank was great and the pilaf had a nice sweetness with raisins that cut through some of the fatty richness of the lamb. The korma chop was also super flavorful with a nice savory sauce and noodled with an excellent texture, very QQ. I don't usually order cucumbers at Asian restaurants cause I can make a cucumber salad pretty easily at home but the one here was very good. Excellent refreshing crunch and garlic flavor to go with all the other dishes. The mint tea was also nice to wash down the mountains of food I was inhaling. I also enjoyed the yogurt, it's a thicker yogurt like a Greek yogurt and topped with honey and raisins. Again, a nice sweet/tart treat that didn't feel too heavy after everything else. I definitely need to come back as I didn't even get my big plate chicken but it'll be hard to choose between all the options.
