They were at my office today and the idea and name intrigued me. The truck was parked in our lot so the counter was up high like 4 feet. I joked about it with the gentleman who took my order. They had a variety of dishes including jerk chicken and spicy Thai kabobs but I wanted to get what their namesake states. I received a skewer of steak bites along with a 3 egg bacon, cheese and veggie omelette on a bed of American fries. The kabobs tasted pre-made (much like Hy-Vee)... they had a good flavor but were truly tough, overcooked and extremely dry and luke warm at best and cold in places (good thing this was at a brewery or they would have been inedible)... Putting the sauce on AFTER and just before serving is something I'd expect at a Denny's but not at a gourmet food truck where a plate is $24... I enjoy the food trucks at work because they save me from the dreadfully monotonous salad bar. Having said that, I hate dropping $16 for an item that includes paper/plastic dinnerware, no water, and I have to stand the whole time. Ok. Rant over. Kabomellette is great. Great food. Forewarning: This is a CATERING review. I blindly booked the Kabomelette food truck in late June for my wedding celebration in late August. I emailed back and forth with Chelsea for a couple week while we got everything figured out. First and foremost, Chelsea rocks and is super pleasant; and I am really grateful that she was so easy to talk to and was okay communicating via email because I am on my computer all day at work and it's just easier - plus I am super anti-social and I hate phone calls, lol. I checked out their catering menu and was able to freely put together a menu of my liking and she helped me figure out if that would be a sufficient amount for my guests. They even let me print my own menu with a funny picture of me and my husband and slap it on their truck. Fast forward to the day of the party, Chef Greg and [insert the other guy's name I totally forgot!] arrived right on time an hour before start time as promised and got to work prepping in their truck. They rolled their window open just a couple minutes past 7pm and people started getting in line! With just under 60 people they were steadily busy until closing up shop and it seems like we ordered perfectly because we didn't have much leftover aside from one item that people were a little too scared to try (Prosciutto & Cantaloupe - come on people! Get with the program!). All night long I heard people say how awesome the food was and how much fun they had ordering off of the truck - and that the guys were super awesome. Everyone just had the best time! I got to try a few things but wish I would have sat down and ordered "The Chefs Special" aka: Everything on the menu. My favorite items were the Caramelized Onion Wontons and the Steak and Blue Cheese Bites. YUM! The only thing I wasn't crazy about, surprisingly, were the Chicken and Waffle Bites - I am glad I didn't double up on the order like I had almost done, lol. We got to try Kabomelette from a food truck venue at a New Year's Eve Party at Lebanon Hills Regional Park in Eagan, MN. My wife decided to try their trailer hash. It was very good albeit the longer wait for it. Everything seemed very fresh and compared to other food trucks, not as unhealthy. It was something unique and different from typical fried food truck food. The one thing that was a bit annoying was that they were not ready to go for the event when it opened up so it made for longer lines. A little bit more punctuality would go a long way! read more

There are different kinds of bargains out there. Sometimes you find something you have been looking at for quite some time and see that the price has dropped. Sometimes a "bargain" is just some junk that while it doesn't cost much you really have no place buying it because it costs next to nothing. Kabomelette is the best type of bargain - something really good for a really good price. I ordered the fiesta omelette, a three egg omelette with chorizo, corn, black beans, cheese and pico. Service was quick and the food was extremely fresh and delicious. One omelette filled me up and at a price tag of $5 it was a true bargain. I will not hesitate to track down Kabomelette again, whether at the Midtown Farmer market or the Golden Valley Farmer market or wherever they might show up. We were at Northgate Brewing and getting hungry. The food truck of the day was the Kabomelette. It was a done deal before we even saw the menu. Two items were ordered, a kabob and nachos. The Spicy Jerk Kabob was not your usual Minnesota nice spice. This thing took a top layer of your tongue to a flame thrower, then sprinkled it with tacks. Yeah, I loved it! It's not for all though. The rice and cucumbers they added with it were a nice distraction to the heat, but did little to quench it. The Fiesta Nachos were good, so here's my NACHO BREAKDOWN! Chips: Not different from any kind you would get from the grocery store. plenty of them and they stayed crisp. Cheese: I saw real cheese on it when I dug down into it, but the taste was very Velveeta like. The jury's still out on this, but it tasted good on my burnt drunken tongue. Fresh Toppings: Yes, black olives & corn/tomatoes from the fresh salsa. Not enough for all the chips however. Near the end, we were using the rice from the kabob as toppings for the chips. This was at Grand Old Day and I have been wanting one of their omelettes! However, the menu was only Kabobs. That's ok. I love kabobs. why doesn't? Plus it's a generally healthier option related to everything else that was at Grand Old Day (cheese curds, corn dogs, french fries, etc). I asked the guy what was better- jerk chicken or Thai peanut? Catering Review ~ My wife and I used Kabomelette for our wedding rehearsal in May. For context, my wife and I live in Seattle, but she is from Anoka, just outside of the Twin Cities. So when we decided to have our wedding there it meant we would have to do a lot of the planning from a distance. One thing we decided we couldn't do from a distance was the catering. So I scheduled us meetings with 8 different caterers in the Twin City area during a trip we had planned in February (the goal of the trip was to solidify a few of the in person details we still needed to take care of). Almost all of the caterers were quite pleasant to chat with, and a few had pretty good food, but Kabomelette and Vittles won us over almost immediately. Even before arriving in MN I was keen on Kabomelette, because who doesn't like meat and veggies on a stick!? (I mean MN puts everything on a stick, or so I've been told, but that's besides the point) Chelsea was really easy to work with and chat with on the phone. She and Chef Greg Miller made us feel extremely confident in their abilities, which is something you look for in a wedding related service provider. If they can take something off your plate, that's always a plus, and I had no doubt that Kabomelette was going to make our life easier. After we had chosen a Kabomelette as our caterer, Chelsea was very diligent about checking in with me/us and keeping us on top of the few details they needed. All that was needed was a down payment on the catering service, and choices of flavors selected. On the point of selection, Kabomelette was perfect. My sister and one of the other people at the wedding are Vegan, and without missing a beat Chelsea made sure we had Tempeh for them. In all honesty, I loved our food, but wish we had picked out more Tempeh, because it was a HIT! Everyone was wanting to try the Tempeh, even the hardcore meat eaters. In all, we are super happy with the service and professionalism that Chelsea and Greg showed through all stages. Thank you both for making our rehearsal an awesome one! I visited Kabomelette while they were at Lake Monster this past weekend. I thought this was an interestingly intriguing combination of food-omelets, and kabobs...you got options, right? I tried the spicy jerk kabob because this girl loved Jerk and this girl loves spice. Something strange happened to me, I couldn't even finish the kabob because it was so so spicy. Like eyes watering, chest hurting, tongue swelling, kind of spice. Maybe I was having an off day with my spice tolerance, maybe I'm not as much of a champ as i thought I was, or maybe this was just plain incredibly too spicy. I'm not sure. It was kind of spend-y for rice, veggies and a few cubes of meat in my opinion. I also felt like the customer service could have been better as I felt the lady working was a little harsh and cold with customers in front of me in line. But hey, the omelets looked good. He suggested I go with the Jerk considering I like spicy food. Now grant it, ive been to Jamaica and have high expectations for jerk chicken but this jerk chicken was just terrible. My husband and I were very fortunate to have Kabomelette cater our wedding in June and they were so incredible. We had a brunch wedding and wanted to offer our guests a selection of omelettes, along with breakfast potatoes, and bacon & sausages. We met up with them for the first time at the farmer's market to try their omelettes and after inhaling our hot, delicious omelette with fresh vegetables, the decision to have them cater our wedding was pretty easy. From there, Chelsea and Greg worked with us to create a custom menu for our guests. They were SO genuine and reasonable and intelligent and willing to work with our specific ideas. They even offered to help out in other areas, bringing coffee for our guests, beautiful fruit trays (even a last-minute custom fruit tray for our mimosa bar!), butter for our homemade breads, and much more. It felt like having extended family members offer to help out. They were just so gracious about everything. On our wedding day, they went above and beyond to accommodate our guests and it really made a difference. They had several servers helping out who were just wonderful. They had smiles on their faces and treated our guests with respect. The omelettes were AMAZING and definitely a highlight of the brunch! The price we ended up paying was extremely reasonable and felt like the best value we could have received from any vendor. We are so grateful to Chelsea and Greg for supporting our vision and for going out of their way to make our day so memorable. We will never forget it and will always HIGHLY recommend Kabomelette to anyone who enjoys fresh and tasty food cooked with love. read more
