    Half Reuben cut in half.

One of the few places which has stood the test of time between many locations. I come for the popovers, big, fluffy, baked to perfection, pair with any soup. I stay for a half reuben. During the worst times for restaurants, the welcoming atmosphere with employees who don't miss a beat to make people feel valued. It's no surprise they've lasted as long as they have. They may not be a New York quintessential Jewish Deli, but they're ours and I couldn't be prouder of their success. Hoping for many more good years for all of us (fingers crossed) ahead. Peeps remembering Ridgedale location during 1970s, this is your spot.

"The Hollywood Joe" - ham, havarti, and a pound of mustard and "challah"
    Nichole R.

Hollywood Joe? More like Hollywood Schmo. When it comes to my sandwich at least...which was...The Hollywood Joe. It boasts itself as ham, havarti, and spicy sweet mustard encased in toasted challah bread. I was pretty disappointed. Why? This thing was BEYOND slathered in mustard, which as you know, is a pretty strong flavor. It totally overwhelmed the mild havarti and challah (I am not even sure they really gave me challah - it looks like plain old white toast). The toast was no longer toast either, it was pretty soggy by the time it got to me but I had it delivered to work via Foodsby so I am sure that was why. Still. It was so tangy it was hard to finish - GUYS: next time go light on the mustard - it should complement the other mild flavors, not overwhelm them. I got a side of their potato salad which was PHENOMENAL. The downside? It was $1.99 for this TINY PLASTIC CUP OF IT. Are you kidding me? What is this, potato salad for ants?! Buh.

Ok, so the food was fantastic. I ordered through Foodsby to be delivered to my office. I got the Miyas sandwich which is turkey, havarti cheese with lettuce, tomato, and this lovely cranberry mustard. You read me right: mustard, not mayo. So it has this delicious spicy sweetness. Just lovely. Here's my beef: I paid $1.99 up charge for a "side" of potato salad. Again to be fair, it was delicious. But I think I'd call it a "sample," not a "side." The potato salad was scooped with what I assumed was a melon baller and put into a ramekin (you know, those tiny things you put ketchup in). It was tiny! I showed my coworkers my "side" of potato salad and they all laughed. To be fair, I can tell it's high quality. But Brothers, maybe find a slightly better price to serving size ratio and change the label to "taste" or "dollop."

This is an outstanding deli! I had the Rueben with a side of cole slaw and potato salad (comes with the sandwich, along with other self-serve choices like beets, pickled herring, and bean salad!). Really terrific on superb light rye. I left thinking, "who could love The Brothers Deli?!

All perfect. All old world. Our favorite very old deli in West Palm Beach was sold 1.5 years ago and gone gone gone are the DELIGHTFUL happy charming old staff and the perfect old world flavors, cooking. In Sarasota where we just lived the last 5 years, a new deli closed after just 2 years, and there is nothing left. We've been visiting family in Sarasota every year for 40 years. Gone too in the Twin Ciries is the ownership by brothers Scot and Stu of Hopkin's beloved Crossroads Deli just last year. The new owners, a corporation owning 6-8 other restaurants have CHANGED almost all the recipes for breads, cakes , wonderous cookies and 80 % of all pastries! No more butter, no more fine ingredients and no more of their once " Grossinger's taste/quality" STELLAR seeded rye bread! They even eliminated the lemon flavoring. In their incomparable lemon coconut cake! Their stuffed cabbage is one of their only true deli dishes left. Sandwiches are half their original size...... heart breaking after going there 3-4 times a week for 25 years........ Cecil's of course had to cut back on the $$ use of butter in their pastries. But they have WORKED VERY HARD to still retain their wonderous long long ago heart warming flavors. ALL their sandwiches are AUTHENTIC. Old world New York City flavors! Made with care and love. My husband loves their beautiful generous Nova salmon platte. Noshing away happily! I love their pastrami Rachel's with plentiful half sour pickles lots of Russian dressing and creamy Cole slaw. Mmmmmm. I hope and pray Cecil's owner refrains for a long long time from selling his rare business. We must support Cecil's too.... Or lose it with all the others, and lose part of our joy and heart. Enjoyed my BLT on whole wheat and the homemade potato salad was amazing! Had a cherry cobbler for dessert that was incredible. I immediately started to worry. Unfortunately my worries have slowly " come true" ...and with an extremely upset heart, Crossroads has changed. Scott and Stu had dedication and sheer love of cooking and baking with the BEST of ingredients and exquisite rare perfect use of spices. Their flavors in everything they touched were some of the VERY BEST I have experienced nationally and in my home state of NY where my father taught Biochemistry in the Bronx at Einstein Med School (1955-1980) and where my intense passion for Delicatessen cuisine originated. Coming almost daily to Crossroads truly made my day! I adored EVERYTHING they created. Even shipped a large lemon coconut cake to mom's beloved 90 year old boss at Scarsdale Medical Center 8 years ago! Today: Their rye bread with caraway seeds was identical to Grossinger's. Now almost zero flavor. The broasted chicken if served hot fresh out of the cooker is still excellent. Some of the original spices gone. The lemon coconut cake has zero real lemon flavor just deep yellow coloring, Their pastrami and corned beef also lost 1/3 to 1/2 of their original flavor plus the size of the sandwiches 1/3-1/2 the original size. The new main dishes are almost tasteless. Their original recipes for matzo ball soup, etc are still good - - vary 8-10 rating. They no longer use as much/ perhaps any butter in their coffee cake " breads" which used to be a 10. Many cookies and tiny pastries in the same display case are still good. Compared to many other restaurants today they are now just " an ok". Gone are the days when Crossroads Deli was " TRULY SPECTACULAR "......

Being 5 minutes from our destination we decided to give it a try And boy are we glad we did! The sammiches weee absolutely outstanding. They come with a smorgasbord of toppings, so you need to peruse the list to determine if there is anything you DON'T want. We had three turkey sammiches and one ham, and everyone chose to modify their toppings slightly (note/ if you desire tomatoes, those need to be added as they oddly aren't on included in the smorgasbord ‍) I opted for everything - perhaps a bit anxious about how well all the flavours would mesh (mayo, mustard, horseradish, oil and vinegar along with various toppings). But you know something / it worked really really well. We also chose the potato salad as a side and it was also quite tasty. Lighter, northerly mayo's. While the sammiches weee being constructed we perused the offering in the attached grocery. On one side is a meat market with a variety of cuts of steaks, lamb, and other meats, which all looked fresh and quite nice. They also have a variety of items such as canned goods, pasta, eggs, etc. on the shelves opposite the meat counter. The entire place is quite sunny, pleasant, and cozy. On the other side is the eat-in, take-out deli sandwiches, that are made to order. The quality of the ingredients is excellent. The bread is freshly made (crispy baguette type) and you have a choice of Roast Beef, Roast Turkey, Tuna Salad, Smoked Ham, or Corned Beef. All sandwiches are $16.50 each (including tax) and come with a choice of mayonnaise, spicy stone ground mustard, red leaf lettuce, thin sliced red onion, salt, pepper, oil, vinegar, raw grated horseradish, pickled jalapeno, and roasted bell pepper. The default includes all toppings so if you don't want everything, be sure to specify what you do NOT want. Surprisingly, they do not carry any diet soda, nor do they stock any national brands (only local pop). There is a large menu on the wall, and you order at the counter and pick up the order (no table service). The food was attractively presented, and very, very good. My only gripe (besides the lack of diet pop) is that it's on the expensive side for lunch. Two sandwiches, a couple of bags of chips, and a couple of cans of pop will easily top $40, although I'd say the quality is top-notch.
