So got out of work and decided to check out the local eats in the neighborhood. Ok lets do hibachi japanese in the west side of the nati! I ordered some reisling wine, a chefs choice sashmi and the hibachi scallop dinner. Waitress allowed me to taste the reisling and it matched the taste profile for my dinner so I ordred. A nice German reisling with apple pear and honey notes paired well with the upscale scallop "lunch special" plate. I will admit I was initially disappointed with "chefs choice" sashimi although it did include some "white tuna" pieces but otherwise the typical salmon, tuna and talapia pieces. BUT the pieces were quite tasty after I let the pieces sit for a bit to allow true flavors to come through. It paired nicely with the $15 reisling that sold for $28 a bottle. The hibachi scallops had a little funk taste to be honest. The hibachi shrimp was overcooked and chewy pieces of crusteacians. I advise to skip the ginger sauce. To salty and did not add beneficial flavors to the shrimp or scallops. The fried rice was good for flat top fried rice and the veggies were good. Long story short. Vet the hibachi dor the rice and veggie lunch special but scallops not worth the price given lack of freshness. I give this place a 3 star. I would pay to eat but not go out of my way. Almost a borderline on 2 stars which is eat but someone else pays. But then again this is not Dallas so my options are more limited on the West side of the Nati. read more

Took my children out to dinner in cincinnati. we ordered habachi. Prior to leaving, my son had to use the restroom. I think nothing of it. we head to target, a few minutes down the road, to grab a few odds and ends. While in target, my stomach starts grumbling. my son asks soon after arriving how long will we be because he needs to go to the restroom again, bad. He goes to the restroom at Target. we leave to head home shortly after. on the way home, my daughter starts complaining that her stomach was hurting , and suspects she must have ate too much. My son begs me to drive faster because he's gonna have an accident. long story short, me, my son and my daughter all have had diarrhea within an hour of leaving this establishment. We called to let management know what has occurred and was told to provide a doctors note and they may go through insurance to pay. Who pays a hospital deductable for diarrhea?! No wonder why there were only a total ten People there. This is ridiculous. wouldn't provide the GM information fails to realize GOOGLE holds all the information and that RAOUF will be connected in the morning !This Place needs to close. Probably one of the best Hibachi restaurants in the tri state. Most are all the same, with the same menu, but Kabuto stands out above the rest in service, portions, and overall cleanliness of the restaurant. I paired my steak and shrimp combo with an iced cold Kirian Light and I was a happy man. The show / performance was great for first timers, but I rather just skip all that and cook it up and serve. read more

I was out and about running errands when I drove past Kabuto - I have driven by this restaurant many times - promising to stop in and give it a try - well, tonight was the night - I was greeted by the staff and taken to a booth on the restaurant side of the house - they offer the tabletop dining experience as well - I was surprised at how large the restaurant was - several large parties with children were sitting at the teppanyaki tables having a birthday dinner- they were enjoying the food and the atmosphere quite a bit- they have plenty of drink offerings and a good selection of domestic and imported beer - the atmosphere on the restaurant side has subdued lighting and comfortable booths - my dinner started with an octopus (tako) salad - it was very good- the light vinaigrette complemented the octopus perfectly - I tried the gyoza (potstickers) and missed the crunchy texture that accompanies the steamed wontons - they were tough and rubbery - I tend to be a gyoza snob - so, you might like them - finally, I made several selections from their sushi menu - all in all, the sushi was good - I wasn't sure about the salmon roe or the flying fish roe - they had a slightly metallic taste - not what I am used to - collectively, my experience was very good - for sure, the next visit to Kabuto will be the tabletop cooking experience - give them a try! read more

We LOVE kabuto- we go once or twice a month. Our whole family loves it. For my daughters 16th birthday dinner last year- we reserved three hibachi sections. That's how much we love it. The past few times we have gone... things have been different. Let's start with the food. The soup is usually a "clear broth" type soup with a few thin sliced mushrooms and scallions. Usually very good. This was basically warm tap water with some floating scallions. The salad tasted very old and was sitting in a half inch of water. The gentleman next to us had more water in his and asked the server why it was like that and she said they were made in huge quantities and stored in the fridge, then the dressing goes on. She said it's salad liquid or water from when they washed the salad. Yum... We ordered 3 appetizers. Harumaki (Japanese spring rolls) were good. Very crisp. The Gyoza (dumplings)- these were barely cooked and were so pale. Barely warm. We didn't finish them. The dynamite roll was very good. The best part of the hibachi is the chef's interaction and this past time.. he didn't do anything. He lit the grill and just started cooking. No volcano, no fun with any of the kids at the table, no broccoli tossing.. he spun the egg twice before hitting it to start the eggs cooking. Our kids and other kids at the table were disappointed. The hibachi dinner itself was pretty food- they forgot my double vegetables- no big deal they said they would replace & they did... but they were terrible. It was a plate of rock hard barely steamed veggies. They weren't put on the grill & tossed in sauce- as they should have been. Our chef was finished cooking and was cleaning the grill- but they make other hibachi dinners for the people in the other portion of the restaurant that don't want to sit at the grill. It should have been made the same way I ordered them. I included a picture so you can see the difference. Overall- the service and the food quality is declining and I hope that they are able to get things back together because it has been one of our favorite restaurants for years. Side note- a group of four at our table, across from us- got up and left (they paid) but left their food because they didn't like it. That is how disappointing it was. Carry out sushi The restaurant seemed reasonable for this part of town so we thought we'd try some carry out sushi. The staff was friendly and attentive. But the sushi was horrible, we ordered a sashimi platter and some gyoza. The sushi was not fresh, not cut properly, and we were nervous to eat it. The gyoza was horrible, we've never had bad gyoza, it's not that hard to make. It was salty ground pork that fell out of the pasta. Fortunately it's been about 5 hours since we ate it and aren't terribly sick, yet... it seems like their primary business is hibachi. Went in with a party of 4. They are very attentive and service is great. They do try to book a full table so you will probably be seated with other people and might have to wait a bit longer than expected. Chef was great and a fun experience. Food tased great and fresh. I love this place. I mean, it's hibachi, and they're not exactly reinventing the wheel here, but it's enjoyable nonetheless. I'm somewhat of a picky eater, so I love being able to get my food exactly how I want it. The chefs are always eager and willing to comply with whatever we want and I leave pleased every time! Having been to a trillion teppanyaki grills, I'm hardly there for the show. If you've seen one onion train, you've seen them all. I'm also not a fan of trying to catch raw broccoli in my mouth as it flies off the spatula, so I tend try to avoid this aspect of the dinner presentation. What gives Kabuto an edge over other similar restaurants in the city, for me, is that it's super cheap to double your fried rice, and they have delicious udon noodles for only $1. Definitely get the noodles and slather everything in yum yum sauce We'll be back again and again, because they cook everything just how I like it read more

You can sit in booths or have a table where they cook infront of you. I have celebrated birthdays here, got together with friends and never have had a bad experience here. The reservation system here is mismanaged and the restaurant is under staffed. Called early in the day and ask to make a reservation but they only do for parties of four or more. When we walked in without a reservation, we were told it was an hour wait which we anticipated. After an hour wait, they said it would be two more hours for hibachi. They forgot they had two reservations of parties greater than 10 already in front of us. We decided to get a table instead and they sat us immediately. However, it still took them long to get our drink orders. Tables set beside us was still dirty and unattended. The food was decent and I may even say good for what we ordered but the experience there was what I'm discrediting the most. read more

What a great place, I can't believe I haven't visited before today. Lovely, intimate atmosphere with private booths and dark wood paneling in the "regular" section. I didn't check out the hibachi side. Ordered three sushi rolls to share for two people & it was the perfect amount. I got miso soup and my friend got the seaweed salad. The soup was delicious but my friend didn't like the seaweed salad, she said it was very different from what she is used to. We ordered hot green tea and were pleasantly surprised by the full-sized tea pot that it was served in. The host greeted & seated us right away. The server was attentive and friendly. The prices were pretty reasonable, I thought. Only downside was it was a bit noisy from the hibachi side, especially with several birthday or other celebrations with loud drums being played. I came here to celebrate my sister's remission. The waiter was patient and did a great job. It took them a long time to get us seated but we were a big party. I had the strawberry margarita, which I loved. I also had the steak and scallops hibachi. The salad that came with it was delicious. The soup wasn't my favorite. The fried rice, vegetables, and scallops were great. However, the steak and the two pieces of shrimp that came with it didn't taste right. The morning after eating the food I felt sick. Rude! Rude! Rude!! The people working at this place (especially the guy at the front desk) is ridiculous rude. Called me to say my order was ready and when I informed him that I did not have an order with them he hung up on me. I called back thinking someone had my information and was using it fraudulently and the same man answered the phone. I explained the scenario again and he tells me "Oh yeah, yeah... my mistake I dial wrong number." I told him that next time he should consider explaining himself rather than being so rude and just hanging up on people. He proceeded to rattle off in Japanese then hung up on me again! What an ass! I went out to Kabuto this past Saturday night for a double date. The couple joining my boyfriend and I had warned us that even with reservations they had waited for about an hour and a half in the past. However, they continue to go back because they love the food. This warning was great, as I already had that expectation going into the night. We all wanted an early dinner so we met up at the restaurant around 6:30 as you cannot make reservations for before 7:30. We were told it would be about an hour wait so we sat at the bar and each ordered a drink. I had a glass of Pinot Grigio which was decently priced at $7. At 7:17 our name was called and we were pleasantly surprised that we were being seated earlier than the one hour we were told. After we got up and waited to be seated, the manager had told us they actually could NOT seat us as they mis-counted the other reservation that we were to be seated with. She assured us that we would be seated ASAP but at 7:40 we were still standing and waiting to be seated as we lost our spots at the bar. When we were seated, our waiters greeted us and were extremely nice. We all ordered another drink and put in our food orders in a timely fashion. I highly recommend ordering a double order of fried rice for $3 more as you will have leftovers! I would also recommend ordering Filet Mignon over steak as it is much thicker and makes a huge difference in the meal. After we ordered, we had to wait even longer due to our grill failing to heat up to the right temperature. Once it started working, we got our food - eventually. However, as soon as our whole meal was on our plates we were already being handed take out boxes, bags, and checks. Talk about rushing us along! We decided to keep eating and hanging out at the table until the manager came up to us asking us to leave so they could have the table. So essentially, we were kicked out of the restaurant for their mistakes the entire night. Talk about horrible service! Yes the food was great and I am currently eating my leftovers as I write this review but c'mon Kabuto step up your game! read more

My review of Kabuto specifically relates to the sushi (I've never had the hibachi experience at this particular restaurant).There aren't many options for sushi in the Colerain area, so, thankfully, Kabuto hits the sushi spot when I don't want to drive into the city. I can't recall a time when I've had to wait for a table at Kabuto and I am always greeted by a friendly host and seated promptly. The seating area is always very dimly lit, giving the place a weird ambiance and I wish they would brighten the place up a bit! Sushi is always fresh and they serve very LARGE portions for a fair price. They do not offer any sushi deals like most sushi restaurants I'm familiar with, but the prices make up for that. I typically love a ginger salad with my sushi but their's is not my favorite. Kabuto gets the job done but isn't at the top of my list for sushi spots. read more

I asked if I could dine at the bar, which was my plan all along. Again, the bartender seemed not to know what to do with me and seemed to have trouble engaging. I ordered a small salad with ginger dressing and the sashimi appetizer. I like the salad, but the sashimi didn't seem particularly fresh and had lots of fatty/chewy bits. Not bad sushi. I asked for a shrimp tempura appetizer and I was given a roll of some kind along with my Kamakazi roll. Lighting is a little annoying, I'll have to strain my eyes when I go back outside into the light. Do NOT drink the water, tastes like they scooped it out of a swimming pool, the bites of sushi were very inconsistent due to the uneven cuts of the roll, some bites normal, others I could barely fit into my mouth.
