I enjoyed my meal. The fresh mint lemonade was delicious with a side of honey. Everything was fresh and they use lots of nice herbs. Even more than I do.

Hidden coffee and brunch restaurant. Very good food and drinks. Staff very fast and inviting. Pancakes, eggs, and avocado toast are fan favorites. Rustic atmosphere with old style lightning and in a mini mall type location. Definitely worth a try if on neighborhood.

Really good breakfast!!! We came back here twice easily accessible along Avenida de Liberdade.

The food was excellent, service was great too! We searched for a brunch and breakfast place on Yelp and thought a place named Kafeine would have good coffee and they sure did! I had a double espresso that was Brazilian, tasted like a mix of walnuts and chocolate and was delicious! I had the breakfast plate, the eggs were perfectly poached, and the detox juice was so good. My wife had the tacos which were also wonderful. To find it, you have to go downstairs, go to the right and it's on the left. Buen provecho!

Amazing food and fast and friendly service! The pancakes and açaí bowl were to die for! The Benedict was also delicious. This place is in the mall food court on the bottom floor.

Great service, cappuccino and pancakes! The ambiance was a little different being on the lower level of a building, but very good!

Great breakfast! Latte and detox green juice were spot on. I didn't like the eggs but everything else was terrific!

What makes it special is watching the pastries being handmade right in front of you, which adds a level of freshness and craftsmanship that you can actually taste. The service was super fast and friendly. The pastel de nata came out perfectly, with that delicate flaky crust and warm custard that just hits differently when you know it was made moments ago. The espresso was equally impressive, rich and smooth, and the two together make for a simple but near perfect combination. If you are in the area, this is an easy and very satisfying stop.

The crust was super flaky and the tart was nice and warm out of the oven, but I didn't like the flavor of the custard. I did forget to add cinnamon to the top, but I don't think it would have helped me personally. The woman who stood next to me at the counter had a nearly orgasmic experience next to me, so it's obvious that my taste buds are apparently off. I loved the patience of the server, who got confused when I told her I wanted to eat in but wanted to take water to go. Note to self...Portuguese folks want to have their "to go" as "takeaway." What I also didn't know was that there was no place to sit!! I scooted down the counter just like all the other folks to watch the bakers prep the next gozillion pastries for the day. That was interesting. Then, I didn't know how to bus my dishes. I just left them on the counter like all the other folks and went away. I wouldn't skip going because of my personal taste buds, though. Enjoy it for yourself and let me know if you have a different opinion than I did!

I had been here about fifteen years ago on a solo trip when I waited in an endless queue for a takeout order. That same line still existed a couple of weeks ago when Jamie W and I visited on my return to Lisbon. This time, we decided to try the dine-in option which I wasn't even aware of until I saw a YouTube video from a travel vlogger who recommended it. Sure enough, the line was a lot shorter and moved quite a bit faster. It turned out they serve up to 400 people in an expansive dining room. The menu goes beyond the pastels and offers croquettes, salt cod fritters, various sandwiches, and other pastries. Of course we ordered the 1,6€ Pasteis de Belem. Four of them (Photo 6). Based on a secret recipe dating back to 1837, they compare favorably to the multitude of competitors, even Manteigaria, whose shops appear almost everywhere in Lisbon. The custard filling is creamy but not excessive and it's not overly sweetened. The standout is the thick and flaky crust, tender with a touch of salt. The 2€ Iced Coffees with Milk was a nice complement. Since we didn't have time to get lunch while sauntering through Belem, we decided to take advantage of their cafe menu and each ordered the 3,9€ Tuna and Mayo with Boiled Egg and Lettuce on Mixed Wheat Toast (Photo 9). I know it sounds simple, but it satisfied much like the kombini sandos in Tokyo. Totally worthy of my 8,000 milestone. FOOD - 5 stars...the pastels are still the bomb 189 years later...the sandwich worked, too AMBIANCE - 5 stars...surprisingly spacious...you can also see the production process through large show windows on the way to the dining room SERVICE - 5 stars...a cordial and attentive server who had to juggle a lot of tables TOTAL - 5 stars...definitely a must-stop next to the equally essential Jeronimos Monastery RELATED - Exploring Lisbon? Based on the items I ordered, everything was just passable. Maybe I'm not really appreciating the difference in textures between similar pastries in different countries, but even compared to several other bakeries and cafes in Lisbon, this was my least favorite. (Overall outside of pasteis de nata, I found pastries and baked goods in Portugal to be a bit drier, breadier, and sweeter than some other countries.) The chocolate croissant I ordered used melted chocolate sprinkles on top and inside, and the bread was laminated on the outside but kinda dense and dry on the inside, no airy pockets, just bready. The palmier tasted a bit stale, like when a crispy cookie has been sitting out and softened. The croquettes were average. The espresso was pretty normal. I sat outside since it was a nice day, they had a number of tables and patrons dining outside. They seemed to be understaffed bc it took a while for the server to come out and take my order, though the food came pretty quickly once ordered. Inside it's a very old-school feel, very ornate with many mirrors and liquor shelves along the wall. Not sure about prices now though will say in 2022 they were very reasonable.
