This is a comfortable cafe to sit, drink coffee, and order a scone. I also love you can literally swing off the 101 and park right there on the street. Easy access! That being said, it is a Christian bookstore and has those undertones throughout..... It's a blessing in disguise. Lol (pun intended). Quiet music playing, wifi, and I feel enlightened by the positive atmosphere. That being said, it's a perfect location on the main stretch of 101 south. So pull over quick on the side of the road, grab your drink and head out if your not in the mood to stay. The place is large inside, so don't think you'll be squished directly next to another table. They even have big comfy chairs and smooth dim controlled lighting. Very cozy. Also, that being said, they serve lunch and breakfast items here as well. 1 Beautiful interior. It's huge. I counted 37 tables with chairs, 7 or 8 leather couches and chairs, every table near a wall had an outlet for laptops, subdued lighting, fireplace, stone in some places in the interior, large table in back for staff meeting hidden away to be quiet. Granite countertops, custom cabinets...the works. It's like a high end hotel. 2 Very nice employees. 3 Vanilla soy latte was good and regular latte was also nice. Good foam and option of ceramic cups to stay. Shots were not bitter but flavorful. 4 Big selection of pastries and bakery goods. Sticky buns go fast. REALLY good scones...very fresh. 5 Drinks were cheaper than most specialty coffee shops by about 50 cents or so. 6 Even though there were a fair amount of people inside the design makes it very quiet. Couldn't find anything bad. This place is sponsored by a large church who put a lot of effort into pleasing and comfortable atmosphere. There is a book store that is separate from the main area. The bands and such are on Fridays. The youth have events at night also. No one will bother you if you want to be left alone. I was there in the morning and there were lots of laptop folks separated by miles of room from each other because it's so big. If you are a church or Christian hater you may not like seeing a bible in a basket on the coffee table near the fireplace or see a small door leading to a separate area that says Bible Book Store. I'm not religious but I am a religious coffee drinker. I found myself in Coos Bay, just for the hell of it, and needed a cuppa. The location of the shop is close to the waterferont and convenient if you are driving through. Kaffe 101 was open, it looked decent from the outside and so I ventured forth, or 'onward Christian soldier' if you prefer. You see, this is a Christian bookstore too. I crossed the street from the Coos Bay Visitor Center through the everpresent fog (literal, not figurative) and entered a very inviting, modern, and warm (literal again) space. I looked around, felt that I was safe from a conversion,or whatever happens in a Christian Bookstore/Coffeshop and since there was no lightning striking me as I approached the threshold, err counter, I ordered my latte. The barista took my order with cool efficiency and wasn't as warm as the surroundings would have dictated. Maybe she knew I wasn't a believer, but she did seem less than friendly to me. Hmm...I guess that charm is saved for the saved. The coffee was tasty enough, but it didn't make me have any revelations of the religious or java variety. Kaffe 101 is a beautifully done cafe with a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere to those who enter its doors. The coffee and the teas that they serve are pretty good and the little desserts that they serve up really satisfy those taste buds. If you're not looking for a sweet treat but a good lunch to fill that stomach then look no further. I also delved into their BBQ chicken salad which is absolutely amazing. The salad has all the usual makings to it like tomato, onions, and lettuce in a hefty serving but add on bacon bits with grilled chicken drizzled with BBQ sauce and you have yourself a meal! Their soups aren't too bad either and be sure to inquire the soup of the day as they have a different one for each day. I have yet to try their panini sandwiches but I'm sure they're pretty good as my mouth waters when I see one served up to some of the patrons. To sum it up, Kaffe 101 has some great and friendly service that bonds well with its decor and atmosphere. I come often as it's a great place to work on some schoolwork when it's not crowded and I've seen other patrons come in to work on things or even just to browse the internet through the cafe's free Wi-Fi. Adjacent to a Christian book store the whole theme has a Christian vibe with their books available for sale, quotes and verses on the wall, and current Christian music favorites playing softly overhead. Stopped by Kaffe 101 on our drive through Coos Bay. We stopped in quickly for some road trip refreshments and were immediately put off by the staff behind the counter NOT wearing masks. Most of the patrons were not wearing masks and it made for quite an uncomfortable experience. We only got coffee so I cannot comment on the food though the coffee was good. The mocha and iced americano were about what you'd expect though not the best we'd ever had. Perfect for a quick caffeine fix if that's what you need! If you're cautious about COVID or a member of an at risk group I'd recommend stopping elsewhere. Otherwise, a fine pit stop on a beautiful drive. read more

This is my absolute favorite cafe in Coos Bay. Their Panninis are a MUST. I had the turkey club and my friend had the chipotle chicken, and they were both delicious. The coffee was also very smooth and rich. The vibe and aesthetics of this cafe is a 10/10. I am a Christian, so I loved all the contemporary Christian music that they were playing and the encouraging decor. However, my friend who is not a Christian enjoyed the visit as well and didn't feel like she was being bombarded with religion. Honestly I wish I could give this place 0 stars. We are from Newberg Oregon and were driving through on our way to Bandon Oregon. We needed a second round of coffee seeing as we had been driving since 5 am and it was 9:30. We tried to stop at a few places but missed them and then we saw Kaffe 101 and figured why not. WRONG!!!! We were originally looking for a drive thru so we could get back to driving quickly. However we settled for Kaffe 101 since it was the only place left in Coos bay. We figured it would still be pretty quick. NOPE!! We spent 30-40 minutes in there. When we first walked in there was maybe 5 people inside already scattered around the building. We walked right up to the counter and noticed that two people were working. No one even acknowledged our presents. We waited there for 10 minutes before any one said anything to us. When they did we got a "sorry for the wait" and "what can I get you" We ordered a shot in the dark (a black coffee with a espresso shot) and a Hazelnut latte. That was it. After paid we waited with the other couple behind us. They ordered a Vanilla latte and a Chai (Steam Milk and Powdered Chai). Max this order should have taken 5-7 minutes to make. Two of the drinks were extremely simply and the other two were espresso and syrup. We ordered absolutely no food! We sat for 25 minutes waiting for our drinks. If we hadn't already paid I would have left. Seriously why would it take 25 minutes to make these drinks. When they gave us the drinks there was no apologize or anything. The atmosphere was kind, background noise was quaint, the temperature of the room comfortable and the lighting soft, but that's where the pleasantness stopped. The staff was distracted and rude, grinding their teeth before snarling their way to the counter to take an order, the house coffee tasted like the grounds were severely overused and was closer to hot flavored water than coffee. Honestly, the $1 coffee available at 7-11 just down the street tastes three times better than the $2.75 I just spent here. Total waste of money. The food is very good. I understand it is Covid & restaurants are struggling but I just can't tolerate feeling ripped off. I ordered a BLT panini & was asked if I wanted half or whole. I asked her the size of the half. She showed me with her fingers & it looked like a 2X2 square so I ordered a full which was almost twice the cost. The sandwich came & it was in 2 huge size wedges. I did say something to the person delivering. I was traveling through town & taking the leftover to go would not have survived with the mayo on it. My husband got a smoothie, leaking with five or six lines of smoothie spilling over the top down to the table. He's lucky the lady dropping it off didn't spill any drops of it on his white shirt. My oatmeal? Still with standing water on the bottom of barely heated oatmeal. It wasn't hot enough to melt my pat of butter. I asked for it to be heated up to please soak up the standing water. I am visiting from California and my sister told me about this place. My family and I decided to check it out. The staff is friendly and kind. They are so welcoming. We enjoyed the high quality food and coffee. I love the atmosphere where you can sit indoors, spend time reading or conversing with family. There are family games and cool gifts: cards, books, tees, signs, scripture gifts, etc. this coffee shop has a special peace about it, and it's because of the place that God is given here. This is a great little Coffee shop/bookstore. It has a very relaxing feel and is nice to sit and read. The space is quite large so even if there are other people in the shop they are spread out. Since I already had my coffee quota for the day, I ordered a steamer and decided to try the lavender flavoring. My parents live in Coos Bay, so we stop here from time to time when we're in town. Probably ten visits so far. The coffee is totally serviceable/good, I've never had much of a complaint there. The establishment is always clean and comfortable. The issue is the service. The girls that work there are sort of the worst... especially since, because it's a Christian-run place, you kind of expect super sweet, attentive baristas? I wish it didn't advertise the religious element so heavily, because I'm a Christian myself and Kaffe 101 gives us a bad name, frankly. From dismissive to downright snobbish and rude, I feel like I've never had a good experience there. STOP HIRING JUST ANY TOO-COOL-FOR-SCHOOL TEENAGER FROM YOUTH GROUP. Hire some folk with decent customer service capabilities! Provide some training/guidance!!! Anyone visiting from a larger town or city (we're coming from Portland) is going to leave K101 with a bad taste in their mouth if they receive any of the same treatment there that I have. There's a new coffee shop in town just a block and a half away. I would think that there's no way the newbie stands a chance, except that we went there today and got 10000x the service that we get at K101. As I said before, I'm a Xian too, and I would love to see this business thrive. They are clearly trying: the floor of the shop is tastefully decorated, spacious, comfortable, and always busy but never crowded. On the other hand I got a blank stare when I asked what kinds of red tea they have. My confusion must have shown because the barista followed that up with "I don't know much about tea" and then pointed me to their rack of Numi bagged tea. If you're looking for tea you can safely go elsewhere. The coffee is decent, not bad and the sugary drinks are as good as any other. The food is solid and the wifi is free. The biggest plus is the prices; if you're from out of town or used to Starbucks prices you'll be pleasantly surprised. The downside, what prevents this place from being a fine coffee shop, is that it is overwhelming CHRISTIAN. Not that that's inherently a reason to avoid a place, and there aren't just a few Christian references to be found. No, it is as in your face Christian as you can imagine a coffee shop being that isn't located in a church. There are verses hanging from the ceiling, a catalog from the on-site Christian bookstore on every table, tips get donated to a Christian charity, and every time I have been in at least one group of people could be found hunched over open bibles having some sort of bible study. And if you can't stand the cookie-cutter adult contemporary the Christian music industry puts out and calls music make sure to bring headphones. It's loud enough to clearly hear the lyrics of every song on rotation, even if they're indistinguishable. It's a nice place but the Christian vibe is so overpowering that unless you're a conservative Christian or can tune it out you'll get tired of it pretty quickly. read more

This place has changed it's interior something major since I first started frequenting the place. It used to be sage green and really light and airy, with a top notch bakery in the back. They sold it, and now it's very dark and cozy with a fireplace and couches to lounge and read or surf the net on. Both versions were tastefully done, but I can't say which I liked better. The old owners are awesome people and still own the building, and are also the ones who roast the beans they sell (which are superb! Try the snickerdoodle!) Anyway, it's still a great place, even since they've made it into a very Christian oriented place, with Christian bookstore, Friday night activities on the stage they added, bible study and all. It seems to be a really happening place for Christian Youth activities as well. Which is great, if that's your thing... Sometimes it's a bit much, but I generally take my goodies to go ;) I have been approached more than once by evangelists there, but I just smile and endure for the coffee and wonderful soups (which are made right there btw). Kaffe 101 is great for business meetings, get togethers with friends, or a quiet place to get some work done. The coffee is really good and the scones are very tasty. The religious feel to this place is due to the fact that it is owned by a church. Given that, I don't feel it is an overtly religious place. I am not a fan of proselytizing, and I have never been preached to at Kaffe 101. The first time I went in, the number I was given for my table had a bible verse on it, which reminded me of a fortune cookie more than anything else; I thought it was kind of funny. During my most recent visit I noticed no more bible verse numbers; apparently they broke and were not replaced. There is a christian bookstore attached to Kaffe 101, which I have never had any interest in so I have never been in it. read more
