I was on the fence about hiring entertainment, but I couldn't stop thinking about how awesome it would be to have Polynesian dancers for our backyard baby shower luau theme. I researched several companies with different price ranges and packages. I chose Kahula Voyage because their different packages were reasonably priced compared to others and they had great reviews. We had approximately 60 to 70 guests from different ages 8 months to 70 years old and different groups of friends from work, childhood and neighbors. Holy whole roast pig!! I hired Tausala Polynesia to cater my husband's 50th birthday party and the food was a hit with all the guests. The whole roast pig I ordered was the highlight of dinner. It may have been photographed more than my husband was that night! Not only did it look beautiful, it tasted delicious. The sound of the crunch as people bit into the crispy skin, followed by a satisfying "mmmm" was music to my ears. The fact that one guest who is really health conscience, continually went back to eat more pork skin throughout the entire night, is a testament to how delicious it was! But enough about the roast pig, the rest of the food was super yummy, too! Spam musubi, Chinese chicken salad, mac salad, chicken long rice, BBQ chicken, beef skewers, rice, Hawaiian rolls, and a fruit platter rounded out the menu. The BBQ chicken was moist and flavorful. I'm always a bit weary of catered chicken being dry but that definitely was not the case. The spam musubi were great! Not just your average spam, rice, and nori - not here! There was some delectable sauce that made the musubi totally mouthwatering. Even the fruit platter was fantastic. I know, how fantastic can fruit be? It was so colorful and beautifully displayed that it made the fruit very inviting to eat. This is coming from a non-fruit eater! Unica was great to work with. She is very sweet and accommodating! We hired Tausala Polynesia for our most recent Luxury Home Sunset Showcase to do both the catering and the entertainment. Throughout the process of planning, Unica was incredibly friendly, punctual, and helpful. Whenever we had a question, we would call or text her and she would respond right away with a helpful and caring response. It was evident that she cared about our event as much as we did, and we really appreciated that! The food was over-the-top amazing. Unica helped us put together the most perfect menu including pulled pork, pineapple meatballs, macaroni salad, and other Polynesian food. The meatballs were our personal favorite! Whereas it was a high-end event, she helped us choose displays that fit the luxury environment. An musician played Polynesian music at the beginning of our event. Part of my job is to "make memories" for the children I serve. Unica and her team came and showed my kids an experience that they may never find the equal of. The show was everything we could've hoped for and more. The interaction with some shy (and not-so-shy) middle school students was amazing. Even in moments when the kids didn't quite understand what was happening (there was quite a bit of nervous laughter during the haka), eventually there were smiles and appreciation all around. Throughout Polynesia there is the concept of mana. There were moments that the power of their performance crossed all boundaries and everyone in the audience could not but recognize the special moment they were witnessing. The spirit of aloha informed everything these folks did: smiles and graciousness (even in the face of a few electronic/sound difficulties that were not their fault!) came naturally to all of the performers.
