Spoke with other nearby businesses (some CP, some different studios) and they said this is a known issue with this owner. They oversell subscriptions and underhire teachers / classes to maximize their profits. Surprising that this type of business practice is legal. Don't be like me and make a stupid decision to try this place. Go elsewhere.

I moved to Connecticut about 6 months ago and after two years of getting my Masters and a whole lot of sitting around, I knew I had to do something! I like nearby The Pilates Centre, read some reviews, and saw that they offered a free intro class. I had never done Pilates before (used to do Yoga quite a bit), but really wanted to try something new. Even though I felt intimidated by what I saw others doing and the machines in the room, I felt welcomed in and supported. After the trial session, I signed up for a 10 pack and haven't looked back. I am nearing session #22 with the owner, Jen, and have already seen changes in my body. I am sold on Pilates and will be remaining a loyal customer of The Pilates Centre. I always feel confident that Jen really knows what she is doing and is supportive of whatever stage I am in with my fitness. She has been incredibly motivational with getting my fitness back on track. I haven't tried any of the classes yet, but once I feel more confident I could see myself mixing class sessions in with the personal sessions. Classes allow you to mix and match level of intensity, stretch vs greater intensity to a pretty intense class. All are easy on my knees. Modifications suggested by teachers based on your ability. The studio is run sooo well. Clean, prompt, friendly. I've made a number of new and very significant friends and co-PBG mates who are great and very supportive while encouraging attendance. I saw a few complaints about business practices. That's not Ashley. This is a franchise and all practices are designed and enforced by corporate. This place keeps me looking and feeling younger.

They're great, but I was really concerned about my technique and doing the exercises correctly. I was thrilled to hear that BM had opened in Fairfield. The studio is bright, lovely, and clean. Staff are positive and always remember clients' names. (I'm terrible with names, so this is really impressive.) All of the instructors are excellent too! They're very knowledgeable and focused on their students having correct technique. If you're thinking about trying a barre workout, definitely check out Bar Method. It is VERY challenging and you'll feel AMAZING afterwards. The only drawback (for me) is that the studio is about 30 minutes away from where I live. However, the workout is so awesome that it's worth the drive.

I've been active my whole life, although less so for the last 4 years. Bar Method is an entirely different approach to exercise than anything I've done before. The focus on Bar Method is on small (tiny, even) isometric movements. By the way, "isometric" means "same length" and an isometric movement is one that engages your muscle without contracting it. For more information, the Bar Method founders blog is a great source: http://blog.barmethod.com. It was developed by a dancer and with the help of a physical therapist. I actually recognize a lot of the movements from when I did physical therapy for my back almost 15 years ago. Bar Method is completely different than any other workout I have ever done. It took me about 3 classes to adjust to the new positions and the flow of class, and for the first two classes I questioned whether I was getting a good workout. However, the day after class as soon as I got out of bed I could very clearly tell that I had. I wasn't really sore the way I am after lifting weights or running or anything else. Instead, I was a little bit achey everywhere we had worked. I could FEEL that my muscles had been worked. Over the last 5 weeks, I've noticed some changes that I really attribute to Bar Method. My arms are more defined, the shape of my legs is changing. I'm also sleeping better than I have in a long time. If you, like me, walk out of your first and second classes thinking "Eh, I'm not sure" I'd really encourage you to go back a few more times just to make sure you're not missing out on something that you really will click with if you give it more time. Through classes this summer, I had the chance to meet some of the Bar Method teachers. Bridget is the owner and has been teaching for a while. She clearly knows what she's doing in class, and has authority in her voice that makes you not want to quit even when whatever she has you doing is really tough.
