A trip to the island of Oahu with business in Waikiki. We actually dreaded having to deal with Waikiki with all the busy-ness, glitz, traffic and prices (we love the Big Island) and wanted a room overlooking the ocean. Luckily we found Kaimana Beach Hotel. We splurged and booked a corner king room and what a delight! We were on the 6th floor overlooking the beach & ocean with the lights of Waikiki with the lights of Waikiki and a view over Kapiolani Park into the mountains. What a beautiful room and view. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony morning, noon, and night. The bed was comfortable and the room was well outfitted (we asked for the optional coffee maker - complimentary). Every staff interaction was friendly with full Aloha spirit - from the valet parking attendants to the front desk team. And the location - perfect for us! It was close enough to Waikiki but far enough away from the noise and commercialism that now sits on Kalakaua Avenue (I know some love it there). The hotel is right on it's own beautiful beach and Kapiolani Park is just across the street. A short walk on the promenade and you've got food from the Barefoot Beach Grill - or walk further into the bustle of the main strip on Waikiki Beach. Only (minor) complaint was that the in room wifi was a bit temperamental. We will definitely return to Kaimana Beach Hotel ! read more

Went for a coffee and pupus at Bar. There were at least 20 seats wiith reserved signs and no customers. We were a party of three. The waitress, Teressa seemed clueless...we asked for a manager, and she said he was in a meeting. So we stood there like 3 idiots surroouded by empty seats after valet parking ( the guy was very polite). We have been going here for 33 years and live across the park. This treatment made us never wanting to go back. We then tried the coffee shop on main level and they were closed early!!! So frustrating...We were mad , actually our spirits saddened by such rude behavior on a nice holiday. The Aloha spirit is no more. the rest of the evening.became saddened. :( read more

This spot is truly a hidden treasure. It sits right on the beach andgenerally quieter than the main drag of Waikiki - at least on the ocean side. Albeit, I heard folks who stayed on the mountain side woke up to roosters. The restaurant downstairs is delicious with some unique not to miss dishes. Just make sure you have reservations or go at a non-peak time. I really enjoyed the free lei making class with Kara. They also have other classes but just make sure you sign up in advance. The Kaimana Beach Hotel is a great option for a low key resort experience. It is a charming, locally owned hotel that is just outside the bustle of Waikiki. They don't have some of the amenities people might be expecting, such as a gym, pool, or continental breakfast. They do offer some fun cultural events (like lei making, hula, stand up paddle boarding, etc.) and host local artists for live music some afternoons. We've stayed in both a regular room and a junior suite. Their regular rooms are quite small but were perfectly adequate for us for a few nights. The junior suite was spacious and had an amazing lanai and ocean view - all of which comes at additional price, of course. Kaimana Beach is just steps outside the hotel, and the resort fee will get you beach chairs and towels. There's sunscreen available in the lobby if, like me, you forget to bring your own. I've seen this hotel described as boutique in several reviews, and I think this is the right word for it. If you come in expecting an all-inclusive resort, you're likely to be disappointed. If you're looking for a quiet hotel with great views, beach access, and plenty of aloha, then you should consider the Kaimana Beach Hotel for your stay. read more

Nice location, off the busy stretch of large hotels on the other end of the island. We didn't love they didn't have a pool, however, because of some of the "included" amenities(one being complimentary paddle board rental) we decided that no pool would be okay. We went to rent the paddle boards and were told that this is only available Monday and Friday at 8:30 am with only 5 spots available and it's a class, not a "do on your own leisure". If we wanted to rent paddle boards for 2 hours it would be $30. Why are we paying a $45 daily resort fee if most of the amenities are only available on one or two days of the week? The other classes like lei making and yoga are also only available on one or two days of the week! This was NEVER stated! This was extremely misleading and was never specified at all on their website or emails we received from the hotel. The beach directly on the property was also closed due to a monk seal giving birth(which we completely understand and is not their fault) so we didn't even have "beachfront access" and had to walk 10 mins down the road to the nearest beach. The whole "included amenities" (aka hidden fees) is really a way for them to "nickel and dime" people out of every cent. Although it was nice being out of the hustle and bustle of Waikiki I would recommend looking elsewhere near diamond head if you want a hotel who isn't trying to drain your pockets when you've already paid a hefty price for a room. read more

The location is quite nice. It's just outside of the hustle & bustle of Waikiki, but still within walking distance. Located on a small local beach with easy to swim waters that beckon you to enter. Rooms are clean and comfortable. I enjoyed the complimentary beach towels & chairs too. Im not impressed with the front desk staff. I had a problem with the drain of the bath tub during our stay. I attempted to call the front desk, but after 10 rings, went downstairs. The first maintenance guy was unable to clear it. He stated the front desk would call us. We waited for 30-45 minutes before I fell asleep. They never did call. The next morning, we requested for maintenance to tend to the drain. This time, success! I booked the room with an app that stated I'd receive a complimentary bottle of wine. None was received. Later, when I enquired about the wine, found that they provided a $50 food/beverage credit to the room. That would have been nice to know upon check-in, rather than the day before we were leaving. They also advertise complimentary bikes to rent. I found that during our stay, the bikes were not available. The hotel stayed we could go down to this local shop about a block away, then they (the hotel) would reimburse us. This seemed like too much of a headache so we never did. They also advertise many amenities available upon request. I falsely assumed this included a microwave. To my dismay, there is not one available for customer use on property. Overall, the hotel is comfortable & quiet. Just not the level of service I'd expect for a 4 star hotel in Waikiki. I don't expect to stay here again. read more

Hotel has a beautiful lobby and open air restaurant. The restaurant is solid, if over priced ($30 for breakfast per person) Bar tenders are also really good. The beach is not my favorite, but it's solid. My praise ends there. My room smelled strongly of mold. I over heard another lady at the counter in a lively debate saying hers smelled of mold and had something more than a drip, but less than a waterfall. Parts of the hotel have no elevator access forcing you to climb a 1 person mildew stairway. The beds also feel like petrified Spam. I remembered Hawaii having the world's best coffee, what they put in the room is yak piss. The disturbing part was the staff which gave the distinct impression the tourist flood has moved them beyond caring. Never at the front counter, didn't clean the room for 1 of 2 days, non responsive to simple requests like two extra towels. When approached by a woman who actually started out very polite and reasonable they did their best to turn her very reasonable complaint into an inferno, which took a while but they got her there after they asked if she was responsible for the mold and water dripping from the ceiling that she was concerned about. All this for $300-$500 a night and more at the Kaimana Beach hotel. read more

Jamie W. and I stayed at not one but two hotels on our recent holiday in Honolulu. The first was on the 30th floor of the nicely appointed Prince Waikiki close to Ala Moana (review: https://bit.ly/3LxxAfn). We stayed four nights there because the fourth night was free, Then we came here beyond the other side of Waikiki for the remaining three nights to save some money. You can tell where this story is going. We reserved a room with a Diamond Head View, and for $279 per night (vs. $400 at the Prince Waikiki), it was a much smaller room with a Queen bed (photo: https://bit.ly/3lj7qlN) and a very small bathroom. Indeed it had the view though not as dramatic as I was hoping since we were just on the 8th floor (photo: https://bit.ly/3mRy0CK). However, the feeling of claustrophobia was not just limited to the room. The hotel lobby and bar area also felt crowded and quite dated. It was built in 1963, and it definitely had that retro-vintage feel in the furnishings and the wall art. Normally I would enjoy such quaint surroundings, but somehow the combination of old-fashioned and relaxing wasn't quite working. The front desk staff were not particularly full of aloha as they were selective who they welcomed. Apparently we didn't make the cut. The one true upside was direct access to the beach, and just being away from the crowds on Waikiki was a blessing (photo: https://bit.ly/3JqsE98). We just came back from amazing 5 day trip,used Costco Travel to book it.At that time they had the best rates.We opted to upgrade to ocean from room,wise choice!Our daughter and her friend had the City View room it was very small but nice and clean.The little balcony offered a peekaboo of the ocean,you have to walk outside and look for it.They didn't even know it was there until I pointed it out . We love the bar and enjoyed our cocktails (I recommend the espresso martini).We also made reservations for Hau Tree reservation,food and view was excellent! I think some of the bad reviews are for some of other rooms that perhaps look over parking lot. This location was PERFECT for us.A 15-20 minute walk to center of Waikiki and decided to walk to our hike at Diamond Head,it was 2.4 miles.We felt it was worth it to avoid the crazy traffic getting into the park. I was worried my daughter and friend (both 21)would think their city room was too small and location not central enough for them but they loved it and are dying to come back!They Uber'ed or walked everywhere.They stayed at Beachcomber Hotel last visit,had a great time but thought beach in Waikiki was crazy busy.They felt pampered having the Kaimana Beach steps away from our hotel and loved swimming next to the friends friendly seal who hangs out there. Just a warning about Costco Travel-their website claims it offers a $100 food/beverage credit however when I asked hotel clerk they said it was not part of our package.I'm in process doing a chargeback of $100 with my credit card. My second stay here! The first time was when it was still The New Otani. It has now been renovated and has new owners. My stay was fantastic just like the first. The only difference this time is the place has a new vibe and updated new decor. Everything else is the same which is good! Staff is very friendly. Rooms are clean and modern. This hotel area is also very safe & quiet. If you prefer to be in a more busier area then this isn't it. I walked every evening to the busier Waikiki area and it only takes about 15 minutes. Some helpful pointers: 1. Valet is $40/night. Save your $ and park next door at the beach area. It's very easy to find a spot early morning or towards the evening. If you decide to park across at the meters then it's free after like 6pm. I had no issues finding parking during my stay. 2. There are Electra bikes for you to use! First come first serve. They're a little old but they work. 3. Beach access is the main reason why this hotel is great. The beach is at the end of Waikiki. It's a lot quieter and cleaner! read more

Good: Overpriced. The rooms are VERY VERY small. No small refrigerator or microwave (I think it's so you can't make you're own food or even reheat leftovers) and you have to ask for a coffee maker. Small convenience store connected that's WAY overpriced, but there's nowhere else close. No laundry (understandable) but they give you an inhouse laundry menu for them to do it. PER ITEM. example: $5.50 for a pair of underwear. over $12 for a shirt. all EACH. Confusion with reservation (reserved king and got queen bed). Had to upgrade to our king size......$500 for 4 nights. Front desk told us $250, but after "resort fees" and other taxes...my credit card showed $500 plus. It's at the very end of Waikiki near Diamond Head, so make sure to either rent a car (parking at hotel is $50 a day), have plenty of cab fare or are ready to walk a loooooong way. They pretty much have you trapped for food. And THEN, even if you are staying in the hotel, you have to make reservations in their restaurant. It's prestigious because it's right on the beach and people come from everywhere. Gorgeous setting, but you pay for it. Food is actually lack luster for what you pay. Yesterday, the wife and I went on our first staycation in well over a year. Unfortunately, it was only a 1-nighter... we would've stayed longer but the wife couldn't get off of work for more than a day. The wife requested that we stay at Kaimana Beach Hotel for the view and to see how everything looked after their last renovation. I don't know what to say. It just wasn't anything special. We got an ocean view room that was priced at a little over $400 a night. With the numerous taxes and valet parking (the only option) it was close to $500 for a single night. The staff were friendly and efficient and there were no complaints there. But the facilities and rooms just seemed so rundown. Stains on the bedding, stains on the walls, stains/dirt everywhere. There were several flying pests that visited us throughout the night. The mini fridge had standing water on the bottom shelf.... presumably from ice melting in the internal freezer. The ice bucket had a tiny hair in it. And the room had the bare minimum amenities-- no bottled water, NO CUPS, and tiny bottles of toiletry articles. The room had a decent view and we were happy to try something new. But we likely wouldn't come back here again. read more

*** PARKING INFORMATION *** My stay was (9/9/23-9/16/23) I'm not going to get into all the positive and negative about this hotel. You can check out other reviews about that. But I will give you information about parking. No other post had said anything so I will fill in the blanks. The hotel does NOT have free parking at all. Hotel related: only Valet for $40 a day. That's the only option. But I learned how to park around here with my rental. If you park on Kalākaua Ave, which is the street that the hotel is on, you can park on that street. There are two side of the street to park on. On the hotel side are hourly parking (free). On the park side of the street are meters. The meters are the old school style coined operated. There are NO app or credit card options, that may change in the future but as of this post it's still coins. The meters run from 10am-6pm everyday but free on Sunday. Parking at the meters has a 4hr max limit, so expect to move your car if you are not going out. Don't miss paying because the metermaids do patrol and do give out tickets. The current rate is ¢25 for every 30 minutes. If you need coins, the hotel does provide change. Just ask the front desk to break some dollars for you. Don't worry about parking availability, there is always parking. And more so after 6pm (everyone at the beaches start to leave). Also on the hotel side of the street there are no meters but do have a 2hr limit parking. If you are lucky, just to the left of the hotel, in front of the Lotus hotel, are two all day parking spots with no limit or cost. The sign that should be there has been long since missing. But always check. Everything is subject to change, signage and cost. So make sure that all the signs are good. I live in San Francisco where parking and ticketing for parking is notorious. The policy for parking is that you are responsible for up to 150 feet of signs in both directions. Now, I don't know what the policies and rules here in Waikiki are, but that's how I viewed it and didn't get a ticket when I parked in the lucky spot. Hope this helps. Side note of why my 3 stars: -Small bed -Didn't like the bathroom door that was more like a window blinds. So yea... my lady heard my farts and smelled my number 2s. There was no vent in the bathroom. After the first time, I started using the lobby bathroom all week. -Couldn't get reservations for my own hotel's restaurant. It was booked out for 3 weeks after my stay. But when you can get the food it's really good just expensive. But whatever you're in Hawaii. GET the "crab tagliatelle"!!!!! THAT WAS FIRE!!!! My lady got the squid ink campanelle, it was good. -the air conditioner needs to be cleaned. -and of course the parking. read more

Overall: Really nice staff who seem to enjoy their jobs and are extremely accommodating. AND the hotel is cute and the location is amazing! Close enough for able bodied to walk to the hustle and bustle of Waiks while having a quieter room experience away from the noise and chaos. Kaimana beach (water) is also cleaner and the actual beach a lot less crowded. Also as a Kamaaina there were some perks involved with the overall cost. Still a bit pricey but made the cost a little more affordable. Side note: Rooms aren't perfect. Don't expect ultra luxurious. Very old kitschie hotel that underwent a trendy surface quick remodel. We had 2 rooms and in both the split air conditioning needed to be cleaned b/c it smelled stale. The unit in my room in particular probably needed to be replaced or zapped with freon. Maintenance came to my room and cleaned the super dirty screen but that didn't help much as the room still did not get very cold. Also if you are OCD and picky you may notice areas of the room that are a bit run down. read more

This is equivalent to a motel. The website is deceiving and the rooms are terrible. The bed literally sinks once you lay on it. This is also not close to the Waikiki strip so expect to walk through the dark and sketchy park back to the hotel. Don't waste your money here. read more

A clean, comfortable hotel RIGHT ON THE BEACH and a few blocks past the high-rise pandemonium that can be Waikiki. Walking into "town" is about 10 minutes, and an hour walk will get you pretty much anywhere you might like to go. The rooms are a little dated but this isn't a bad thing, it just is. I do wish they'd update their TV setup in the rooms, so we could find a directory, check out, that sort of thing. But the staff is very friendly and helpful. They offer beach chairs, towels, and umbrellas if you want to sit on the beach. The restaurant and bar are good. Did I mention, RIGHT ON THE BEACH! If I could make a wish, it would be the the restaurant menu should have a few local grindz dishes, not all mainland food, but it's a small issue because they're RIGHT ON THE BEACH! Price/Value? Had an amazing stay here with my fiancé. From the valet to the house cleaning staff, everyone was extremely friendly and accommodating. I had mentioned that it was my fiancés birthday weekend and our engagement celebration and our room was upgraded. The local beach was break-taking being clear and great for swimming and snorkeling. Has been a great experience staying here. We just needed a crash pad during our termite treatment. $188 (and taxes) for a night. Unit slept 4 adults comfortably. Pull out couch queen ( surprisingly comfortable), and two twins. Highly upgraded bath area, 2 TVs, wifi avail, fridge and micro. Love Hau Tree but opted for Diamondhead Grill, South Shore Grill, Bogarts, and Rainbows. No view, or elevator, it's not in the main hotel. But split AC made it nice. read more

This used to be such a lovely hotel! It started going downhill when the group before this one bought the hotel. And they separated the restaurant from the hotel. Now they have redone everything and have actually cut back the tree! The restaurant looks like a cafeteria. The staff are mostly from the mainland and have no idea even the history of this hotel and tree. That information used to be on all of the menus. It is not there anymore. This is a mainland hotel. There is no Hawaiian charm grace anything Hawaiian except the location. Even the valet told me that this hotel is crap. It is so incredibly sad. read more

I had the pleasure of staying at the revamped KBH after a 3 year absence this past week! It was fantastic!!! I had previously stayed there around 3x annually for the last 5 years when it was under the New Otani Hotel chain ownership. I love the updates the new owners have done to the photos in the room, wallpapers, color palette and friendly staff as always. I was able to text concierge for any needs for our room. We stayed in the 1BDR PH and it was amazing for our work trip. A desk setup with a stunning view of the cityscape plus phenomenal ocean view. Working in that environment was very conducive and inspiring. We were able to ask for real dishes and utensils for any food takeout (Diamond Head Market & Grill of course) which was a nice touch to eat on the balcony. The Hau Tree Restaurant is a great option and has beautiful beach views. The new coffee shop is also amazing. Best coffee and the staff in there friendly and make a mean almond latte! Had a great 7 night stay here. The service was great, the employees were all so kind and helpful, and the location is perfect - only about a 10 minute walk to the heart of Waikiki. First of all I had to get my own bags up the stairs after paying for valet parking. I went to my room. The air conditioner in the room was dusty and the room looked like a motel six with better pillows. In the morning i went to iron my shorts and they left a brown gooey stain on them from something someone else had burnt to it. The bathtub was dirty. I ordered food and my burger was raw and they forgot my drink. The view was beautiful and front desk staff and restaurant was super nice! Your paying for a view not for cleanliness. Also super noisy in the morning banging and maybe some construction. read more

We were regulars of the New Otani and had gotten to know the old staff, most of them are sadly gone with the new owners, but the good news is that they renovated the lobby and restaurant areas nicely (they needed it) and the new staff is very nice. The menu at the Hau Tree is simpler and better. The food is excellent. We normally stay in a suite on the top floor- they were nicely renovated with much more comfortable furniture. Housekeeping and supervisors were obviously paying attention, everything was nice and clean. Beach services are a nice new feature and the front desk staff is outstanding, I really liked the text concierge. The hotel was full, but they respond quickly! This is not a Ritz Carlton, but if you like being off Waikiki, it's a nice full service hotel, not too large. The park across the street is awesome. read more

We stayed for a total of 11 nights and 12 days. Located away from the busyness of Waikiki, Kiamana has beautiful views of Diamondhead as well as Kiamana beach. We chose to split or stay and spent the first half of our stay with a Mountain View and the second half of our stay with a partial ocean view room. Both of our rooms ended up being on the corners giving us extra large balcony space. They also were fairly large rooms as they both were ADA accessible rooms. The bed in our first room was incredibly comfortable compared to the bed in our second room which was much more firm. It was clear though that our first room had not been renovated yet as when we moved to our second room the room had clearly been renovated with wallpaper and additional amenities. As there were no additional renovations going on at the time it makes me wonder what the resort plan is for updating the mountain view rooms. We had excellent service from Camille at the front desk every time we stop by. She always greeted us with a smile, even behind her mask, and always was able to answer our questions. The few times we stopped by and interacted with the graveyard staff, while they were polite they were also quite curt in their responses. Beach towels are not in the room but they are available as you walk out to the beach and you were also able to utilize beach chairs and umbrellas based upon availability. The resort does offer planned activities throughout the day and if you provide your phone number you will receive text messages the day before with the next days events. Dining options are limited to HauTree and the bar. While the bar is open throughout the day it does close at 9 PM. The restaurant is open for breakfast/brunch from 8 AM to 1 PM and then opens for dinner from 3:30 to 9 PM. If you are like us and choose to sleep in and may have a late start to the day then you may find yourself having to find lunch somewhere else. Valet parking is available for $40 a day. There is street parking nearby but only one side is free while the other side is metered parking. All parking becomes free after 6 PM in the streets though. The Queen Kapoloni recreational space is right next-door to the resort and often times, especially on the weekends, there are lots of barbecues and parties going on well into the evening. The park/beach area closes to visitors from midnight to 5 AM. Something to consider if you want to enjoy your balcony if you are on a partial ocean view room. read more

Great location, cute lobby and very friendly staff. We took advantage of most of the 'amenities' (bathrobes, electric kettle, cups, silverware, etc.) but you did have to ask for them to be brought to the room - there's literally nothing in the room if you don't ask. Rooms are also a little dated but we were never really in the room so that wasn't a huge issue for us. Overall, the room was cleaned well everyday which was nice but the soap they have was pretty cheap so we ended up having to buy our own since we had such a long stay. There's also no coffee / tea / water offered (there is a great coffee shop right outside the hotel but it's VERY expensive). There's a place to refill water bottles in the lobby but the hotel doesn't provide water bottles and only gives small glasses if you ask. They also offer towels but no beach bags. All in all, a lot of things were just short of being perfect. Also, when we came the beach was closed because of the monk seal and the hotel really didn't do much to make up for the inconvenience. The main reason for staying here is that it's right on the beach! Without that, the hotel really loses some of it's charm and you have to walk pretty far to get to the next sizeable beach. Finally, the restaurant in the hotel is good but it closes for part of the day and only a limited menu is available for room service. They also won't let you sit at the tables or bar in that area when the restaurant is closed so again, without beach access there was no where to have coffee in the AM or to sit and relax outside of the room without walking pretty far. I wouldn't stay here again when the beach is closed. read more

Absolutely adorable hotel. It has everything you need for the perfect getaway! First - an oceanfront view, the junior suite room is spacious it with a seating area, large deck, good size bathroom and foyer with a closet. The place has a great bar and restaurant. The seating at the bar is lively and has a great vibe to it. The restaurant is on the beach level. The breeze that comes through the hotel lobby is heavenly. The staff are courteous, kind and professional. The location is perfect - close to the craziness of Waikiki but not too close, next to a park, close to pickleball courts, and also a perfect beach with surfing access. Every day the beach was filled with good looking athletic locals and visitors. There is also a coffee shop and convenience store on property that sells everything you might forget to pack and all types of snacks and beverages. We took advantage of the free bike rentals a few times and free surf board rental. They also restock the room every day with glass bottled water. That's a huge plus for me as a huge consumer of water. There's also an easy access to a refill station in the lobby. They also cleaned the room every day without asking. We wanted to try the yoga but we were not there on the right days. We loved the area and enjoyed a Romantic 30th anniversary get away. read more

This hotel was awful. They cancelled our hotel stay without warning. When we showed up for a wedding and no room was shocked. Luckily a nicer hotel up the beach helped us out. Kaimana hotel and staff were rude. Never again. read more

I love this hotel. It's such a gem. Super cute. Overlooks all of Waikīkī without all the ghetto tourists. When you walk in the lobby you automatically get the hotel vibe everything about this place even the rooms are just yasssss! read more

We decided to do a staycation for three nights as my husband and I both have a week off at the same time. We booked an ocean view room and we were originally booked for a beautiful corner room. However, upon entry into our room I smelled a strong cologne smell. I have seasonal allergies and am very sensitive to smells but I told myself "You'll get over this" as the room had stunning views. I opened the sliding doors to air out the room for 45 minutes but I still smelled a strong odor. My husband called the concierge desk and they sent over the maintanence crew, John. He agreed there was a smell that was not any of their cleaning products- most likely from a guest that just left that morning. He offered to spray the room with air freshener or sanitizer but the thought of more smells mixing made me say to my husband I have to go home for the night or change rooms. He was helpful and told us to let the concierge know immediately. When we went downstairs to explain the situation, Rob immediately took care of the matter and had us stay in a beautiful ocean view suite for one night. Due to the place being pretty booked we actually don't know how where next two nights will be but I was so grateful for this adjustments and accommodations from Rob... thank you so much! We have two more nights so we'll see how this experience goes! read more
