Sounds to me they are trying to save face. Just another shady way this place attempts to run their business. Bottom line up front, I fully recommend NOT renting from this location. After my experience with this Uhaul location I was absolutely appalled at how rude and condescending the clerk was upon return of the vehicle. First off, the contract states to top off the tank prior to return within a mile of the Uhaul, reasonable as they then have the tank full with less than a mile of travel since top off. I returned the vehicle on time and filled up the tank as specified. I had filled up the night prior closer to my home where the cost was $0.40 cheaper per gallon so there was maybe a gallon that was needed to top it off the next morning at the higher rate. The clerk scrutinized the gallons vs the miles driven and i explained that it was the amount of top off and i filled up earlier. She told me that she wanted to see the other receipt to match gallons to the miles, a bit more nit-picky than necessary as the gauge read more than full and I had "topped" it off but ok. The gas pump near home didnt print a receipt and i didnt have time to go in to get one so I offered to show her the bank statement showing the transaction which calculated out to be the right number of gallons. Her response was, "I guess we'll take you at your word". Im not sure if she was looking for an excuse to charge me the difference between my receipt and the gallons that 30 miles would burn at 8 MPG or if she wanted me to go try to get 4 gallons into a full tank, but there was definitely a better way to handle this. If they wanted every gas receipt for the duration of the rental, state that. They stated they wanted the receipt showing that I stopped at a station within a mile and topped it off before handing it back in. Every other rental company asks that the gauge reads full when you bring it back, done and done within they 1 mile rule. She then mentioned that maybe they need to review the wording of the contract to be more clear, to which I concurred. Rather than dropping it, she snidely stated that I wouldnt have to worry about renting from them again so it shouldnt be a problem. So after liteterally arguing with me about my interpretation of the wording of their policy and talking to me like I was not intelligent enough to understand the intent of their policy, I dropped to subject as it was not going anywhere fast. Also, the truck was beat to all hell on the exterior. It was evident that they take full advantage of the insurance policy by pocketing repair charges that happen over time and never fix any cosmetic damage to maximize profitability. As such I took my time and surveyed the vehicle in detail and ensure that if it wasnt marked with a small x sticker, I photographed it and marked it on the sheet. Well i must have missed one on the paperwork as they pointed out something minor on the fender. I know for a fact that I didnt come close to hitting anything and thank god I had photos because the item in question was photographed despite not being annotated. That too she seemed annoyed at me for having proof of and scolded me fo not annotating it on the paperwork, again, sorry as there was a lot to mark and check for prior damage x's. So finally, I have my transaction complete and I am getting my belongings situated to leave, i notice a truck parked in the middle of the lane with a gentlemen staring me down. When I focus my attention in him he asks me if I need any help and, despite any aggitation, respond that I am good and thank him for asking. He then accuses me of stealing his broom, the broom that I brought with me to sweep out their truck as required by their general cleaning policy. After processing why he was asking me where I was going with HIS broom, I realize that they did have brooms hanging on the fence by the truck return, an amenity that I didnt realize they offered prior to returning the truck. Coincidentally, their brooms were the same brand and color as my broom, albeit older and more weathered, so I can understand the confusion. After explaining this he drove on. An easy mistake to make but the approach was grossly mishandled. He can see the fence, my truck was the only one there, and he can see the brooms on said fence. Surely he can see that there arent any missing and even if he couldnt see clearly, there is a better approach to clearing up the confusion. Afterall, I just paid $93 for a one day truck rental, im not going to steal a beat up broom that cost at most $3 when it was brand new. Overall the WORST experience that I have ever had. Looking back, if I knew then what I know now, and this was the only option, I would have hand carried the contents of my house the mile to my new residence rather than do business with this location. My recommendation to other families; drive the extra miles to pass this place up and go to another Uhaul location. read more

Back in September, 2013, I had to move my son out of his house, into storage, by myself. He was out of town for a few months and his situation changed, forcing him to move. Being from California, I had no clue where to store his stuff. I google searched for storage near his house and found Kaneohe Self Storage. The price was the lowest in the area. I went to the facility and explained the situation to the folks at the storage. They were so very helpful. I tried to get all his stuff in one size storage room, underestimating terribly how much room I needed. They happily rented me the correct size room without any hassle. They provided the dollies and hand trucks, making that part of the move so much easier. I rented a large UHaul from them. In the end, I got the truck for 4 days for the price of 3. All in all, I had a great experience with Kaneohe Self Storage. The facility is clean and well controlled. The equipment (dollies, hand trucks, elevators) all worked without fail. The people there were absolutely helpful to this out of towner helping his son. Given the need, I would use their services again. read more

In 2010 I moved to Oahu from Kauai and rented a tiny place. I stored my things thinking it would be a short term solution. Ha- was there until 2016. My things came out exactly the same as they went in. The staff is consistently friendly and quick to help. Never had to wait for the hand truck. Always felt safe because of the staff's diligence regarding security. The only caution is that if you have any mobility issues, the upstairs units are a steep flight up. read more

I kept my junk at this storage for 10 years, yes 10 years! It was cheap and since I live in California I never wanted to get into it whenever I was vacationing in Hawaii. Today was the day I removed all my stuff. I was very disappointed and disgusted to find tons of termite eggs all over my boxes!!!!!! And live termites living in my book collection!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I understand the ratings where folks are saying the customer service is "rude", because that is sorta how they can come off over the phone. HOWEVER, when you work with the staff in person, they are very kind and considerate. I cannot tell you how many times theyve agreed to stay open a little late when my truck rental took a bit longer or offered their help. The only place to get uhaul on east side. When I picked up the truck, the girl that helped me was very nice! But after I dropped it off, the next day, another lady called and did the same thing, quizzing me about the gas!!!!! She was super bitchy and I asked her why they charged me again for a measly 3 dollars and she said that the mileage was wrong!!! Had to move and was able to get a Uhaul truck here. I wasn't sure what to expect with the reviews I read...but everything went great. I asked about the gas problems people were having. Basically they told me some customers who don't go that far sometimes try to get away with not putting any gas back into the truck. So that's why they ask for gas receipts. Makes sense....I wouldn't want to get a truck that's not full and end up putting more gas than I should... right?! Overall everything was all good. I would go back if need a truck. This place has horrible horrible customer service for Uhaul Rental. Do not rent your van from these people. We rented a van at 8:45 am and returned it the next day at 8:45am as we were told. The very rude lady told us we weren't supposed to return it till 9:30 so she can't check us out till 9:30. So I asked why did they tell us to return the van at 8:45? The rude lady said it's so we won't get charged for another day! Wait, what? We have to return it at 8:45 but wait here till 9:30? Then she has her nerve to say "I don't know why they told you 8:45. We don't open till 9:30. Didn't you check our hours?" Wait what? They told us to return it by 8:45. Then she said since we didn't take the insurance, she can't check us out yet. What? Oh and then she said "storage side opens at 9:00, rental side opens at 9:30." So, it is now 9:30 and I am still here waiting and getting more frustrated. DO NOT RENT A UHAUL FROM THIS PLACE. Customer Service is extremely poor; accused me of ripping them off in gas mileage. As I returned my truck rental & abided in the UHaul terms/agreement, filled the gas tank...an Employee by the name of Alana was disrespectful towards me & made a comment (regarding the gas gauge;which I returned Full)...she stated she "wanted to prove me WRONG" & charge me $30 for not putting enough gas & forced me to pump gas a second time ($5 more). I drove the truck down the street back to the gas station & the gas was literally spilling out after $1.29 was released from the pump... completely wasting gas (when she said I needed to put at least $7 worth of gas according to the mileage; she was wrong) but as she wasted my time & my money (gas profusely leaking-toped off the tank...again, she was determined to prove me wrong. At this point, I felt she owed me money for 'wasting' gas. I returned to the office, with my gas receipt & an actual photo of the gas spilling out of the tank as proof to Alana. The fact that she said she wanted to "prove me wrong" really bothered me because not only am I a paying customer, but I'm a business owner & NO customer should ever be treated so disrespectfully... needless to say "PROVED WRONG" when the employee is the very one who is WRONG. Where is the professionalism? I'm paying $1.19 PER MILE... during the use of the rental.... isn't that already paying for GAS mileage? Why charge mileage when you demand a gas receipt? Alana was not pleasant, nor understanding at all. I would highly recommend to Alana's supervisor that she be more friendly & professional when dealing with Uhaul's customers. I had nothing but a positive experience from this company! Super friendly staff, best prices in the area, and even when my movers took their sweet time they stayed late till they were all packed up! They made my move easy, I went through for my uhaul, storage needs, and had my stuff picked up and shipped from their and they helped every step of the way. My experience differs from the previous comment. KSS has been in use by our family for 2 generations! In recent months, when my mother in-law's home sold sooner than we thought, KSS was available to us at short notice and we easily stored our tons of 'ukana!
