When I had health care there- my doctor told me I was anemic- he did not prescribe any iron for me. He told me if I got worse I would have to get a blood transfusion. How am I to know how many milligrams to take? How many days was I supposed to be taking the medication. I went to a health store and purchased some iron. There's room for improvement with the staff. Treat every patient as if they were your family member. I heard a lot of well that's not my patient. They are your patient. You're just assigned to different areas. I had read their book they have in the lobby and it was frightening. Nobody seemed to be coming out alive. I was determined that my mother was going to walk out alive and she did. Family members need to do their part to. Don't leave a loved one in there and not go to see how they're doing n living. People reside here, it's their home, Health care workers it's your job to care for the wellbeing of these patients. If it's just a paycheck you should find another job. read more

This facility is good during the week. On the weekends it is piss poor. My Stepdaughter was sent there from Kaiser hospital to do rehabilitation which was great but, she was taken there on a Friday and they put all of her belongings in a 15 day quarantine. We are talking clothing the shoe that she needed for PT and the boot for the other side. This was just the 1st night. She is also on a special diet aka plant based and they give her a tuna fish sandwich on wheat and a juice. Again not on the diet. Then on Monday she asked for her underwear and they gave her two pairs of dirty underwear. I had to call each day to get things done for her. Not a good place for rehabilitation for a young person. read more

The staff took great of me. Marylyn in admitting was really helpful made me feel comfortable. Anna banana was my angel she made sure she completed her job and was always polite. Tne nurses and CNA were accommodating and informative. I was there for almost a month and I felt the rehabilitation and physical therapy gave me tools /skills to use with my fractured hip. The kitchen tried to make sure you had some choice of the menu and had a variety as much as a center can. My room had a view of the sitting area and flowers and trees hummingbirds were my must watch. The hand bike in the gym was a great workout and the rotation of the physical therapy gave me a variety of skills. Patrick, Richard, falisa to name a few were patient and knowledgeable. read more

My mom was brought here from a Kaiser hospital in another city. After she has been there, I was notified that KPPACC wasn't a permanent facility and was told it was. If she were to be there permanent, there is a fee, per day, even if she is a Kaiser member. And now my mom has medi-cal, (but still covered by Kaiser) KPPACC don't work with Medi-cal. The good thing about this place was that they have sitters (CNA's) who sit with patients 24/7 especially someone like my mom who sadly has dementia, who needs help being fed and pulls the IV, the sitters there watch the patients to make sure they are safe, help feed her, bathe her, especially the male Filipino nurse who took care of my mom was very friendly. A week and a half later, she had to be taken to Kaiser Permanente San Leandro medical center because of the ammonia and from there, she was transferred to a nursing home in my city, which blows. Even though I didn't like the area where KPPACC is located, and had to drive 30 minutes to and back from the facility, I wish KPPACC accepted Kaiser medi-cal so my mom would be in a better facility where she has 24 hour care. read more

I write this review as someone who has made health policy and delivery their career, and has had a lot of exposure to health care settings, including skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), during the course of my career and most importantly, in the course of navigating care for a loved one. Among SNFs, this place is second to none. Ignore the noise in the other reviews--this place knows what they're doing and it's reflected in their CMS 5-star rating. The care my loved one received here was honestly nothing short of extraordinary. They received round the clock, personalized care for a condition that is tricky to manage. I left every visit feeling like they were in good hands. All members of the care team--including the RNs, CNAs, PTs, OTs, dietitians, geriatric MD and specialty MDs, activity coordinators, and case managers--were unfailingly kind in their interactions with us. I received near-daily text updates as well as weekly conference calls to let me know how my loved one was doing. The communication couldn't possibly have been better. Finally, I'll acknowledge that the building itself is a little dated, but it's clean, well-staffed, and management apparently runs a tight ship. That's all that matters when you or your loved one needs skilled nursing-level care. read more

I was here following a major accident that almost killed me. The nurses generally provided very good care - often under circumstances that could not have been easy. Yet, there were also problems that were not addressed until they got more serious. It should not have taken six days before constipation was finally alleviated. Urinary problems were ignored because a nurse had incorrectly written things into my chart until my wife got others to look at how much my bladder was distended. My wife acted as my advocate throughout my stay and that helped. Jane in Physical Therapy stands out. She gave me hope that I would walk again and helped me take my first few steps. It's been several months but today I took a five mile hike that I might never have thought possible. Jane also worked hard to make sure that I would be in the best program possible when I was transferred, before returning home. I owe her a great deal and I would give PT and OT five stars. read more

I was in this facility for a couple months after spine surgery and to rehab fom sepsis as well.My nurses were incredible Antonio,Jose,Joel,Marivic,Elizabeth,Esther and Ofelia all took care of me like i was family. I was transferred to KPAAC to rehabilitate my knees from Kaiser Santa Clara. My first night here Miguel and Romel took care of me. The next morning it was Easter and Elizabeth. Probably the most memorable CNAs of my stay, not to take way from other CNA's, but I received more time with these four CNA's. Lani the RN will draw blood on her first try. Joessph the OT is energetic and helpful. For PT Carmelo will get you back on your feet. If you get Rich, he'll get you real sore and Alma has a wealth of knowledge. Everyone here was great, too many to name, especially Easter who reminded me of my own Mom and Grandma. It's sad because no one else after me will be able to experience the greatest care one could receive at a SNFF in the San Francisco Bay Area. Kaiser has begun to wind this facility down and will be closed in November. No patients have been accepted two weeks ago. I pray the 300+ beautiful souls here are made whole. Shame on Kaiser for doing this. read more

After my mom's surgery, Kaiser SF recommended that she would go to a skilled nursing facility as part of her recovery. After visiting a few different facilities on the list, we decided to go with KPPACC. The therapists are excellent, especially the physical therapists. Jane did a wonderful job helping my mom learn to walk again after having a stroke post operation. I agree with what a previous reviewer said, if the family members of the patient visits often and makes themselves known, you will get decent care here. If you are alone but are a good advocate for your own health, you will be okay here. Unfortunately, healthcare is about advocating for what you want and voicing your concerns often. I learned this the hard way. Compared to some of the other facilities I visited, this place seemed a whole lot better than the others. There are always activities for the patients, people seem much more upbeat than other skilled nursing facilities and most of the staff are helpful. It's also much cleaner and bigger than most facilities so the nurses get really busy. There were some miscommunications that happened when my mom was sent to the ER and then tried to return. We also never had a social worker to help us prepare for her discharge and her return home. There were several outstanding CNA's and some that weren't as high quality. The real reason why this place gets a decent rating though is because of the therapists - John and Jane, Dr. Ko (he manages to work with every patient here and there are lots) and the star CNA's (Julia and Freiwot especially) - there were several that my mom had. One thing I wish they would do is upgrade to a computerized system. I was just waiting for a mistake to happen because everything is written down on pieces of paper and then FAXED to Kaiser. Really? We live in a technological age, let's upgrade to a better system so that everything is streamlined. It was so irritating that they'd have to bring packets of paperwork to bring to the hospital if the patient had an emergency. This would not only save time but it would also save lives. Oh and there are no offices where patients can talk privately about their health concerns. read more

And the other day call nurse for advice for my daughter fever what she told me is blow my mind she told me NOT to use the wet towel to low down the fever it's going to give the body a goose bump and keep the heat inside ?!! If possible, please find a better place because with the amount of indignities and mistreatment your love one will experience you wouldn't want them to be admitted there. 5 years ago my dad died from there... The day before he died, my dad had told me he wanted to go home because he wasn't being properly treated every time my family and I weren't around to visit him. He said that even though he had a sign above his bed saying not to draw blood from his left arm, limit fluids due to being diabetic and doing dialysis, the nurse and/or staff members were very incompetent. Ignoring their calls whenever he or patients would press the nurse call button for assistance. They lacked so much compassion for the patients that were admitted there. The day I witnessed my dad dying, a day before, his nasogastric tube got clotted due to not properly being flushed by the nurses and/or staff. Had to go to the emergency room to have it unclogged and wasn't to able eat for 24 hours. Found him gasping for air, his blood sugar levels were extremely high which caused him to have a heart attack. I will never forget that day when I furiously yelled for help... So please, if you love and care for your love ones, PLEASE, DO NOT have them be admitted there! read more

Though they have some of the most impressive covid protocols I've seen, that was about the only thing that KPPACC got right for my Dad. I had high expectations at first, but by the end of my Dad's stay, I couldn't wait to get him out before they killed him. All he did was go steadily downhill every day that he was there. Dad started out in the covid isolation ward, where day one the PT had him walking back and forth many times across the room with hospital socks and "boot cast" shoes- no arch support. As a result of this, his foot became strained and it hurt too much for him to do PT for at least 3 days. They pumped him full of 24/7 Tylenol, which made him incredibly constipated. He initially had a UTI going in, which cleared, but he got another one- maybe from sitting in a diaper full of poop for a couple of hours without anyone but me noticing. He was obviously going downhill, loosing 3 lbs every 5 days. He was barely eating or drinking, not getting enough PT, becoming mentally delusional, continually constipated. They sent him home a shell of the man who came in. 3 days after returning home Dad was in the ER with extreme fecal impaction, another UTI and unable to urinate so he was catheterized, blood sepsis, and dehydrated. He's been hospitalized for 4 days now trying to undo all the harm that KPPACC created. It is likely a reasonable place for a fairly able bodied person to recuperate, but it's a frightening and frankly dangerous place for the very elderly or very frail. read more

Our mother was at this rehabilitation center for two weeks. The nurses and staff cared for her so wonderfully. Round the clock care. They treated her like she was their family. This place is meant to take care of the patients that are in there. That I do understand. But what I don't understand is that this place is worst then a prison !!!! If you are a patient In this facility or any facility all you want is to spend time with your loved ones (especially during the holidays) and this place makes it nearly impossible to do so. Scheduled an appointment to visit a family member there and the visits are only 30min visits and they pick the time you can go. For me they said 7:30-8:00am which is quite early I'd say. Drove 2 hrs just to spend 30 min with my loved one. I strongly suggest/encourage this facility to change the 30 min appointment to atleast 1-2 hr visits. People in jail/prison get more family visit time then this place !! read more

**THIS IS NOT A REVIEW, THIS IS A WARNING!!!** After my dad had a stroke we were given the option of sending him to Kaiser Permanent Post Acute Care Center (KPPACC) for physical therapy treatment. We chose to place him here because he would have access to daily physical therapy sessions with equipment and trained therapists that we wouldn't have access at home. WE WERE WRONG!!! While at KPPACC my dad contracted a bacteria called C. Difficile (C. Diff), not once but twice!! If you're not familiar with this virus, here's a quick overview on how it is passed: "C. difficile spreads mainly on the hands of caregivers, but also on cart handles, bedrails, bedside tables, toilets, sinks, stethoscopes, thermometers -- even telephones and remote controls. C. difficile bacteria are passed in feces and spread to food, surfaces and objects when people who are infected don't wash their hands thoroughly. The bacteria produce hardy spores that can persist in a room for weeks or months." The nurses at KPPACC DO NOT DISINFECT themselves or their equipment properly!! They are spreading this bacteria all over KPPACC! The nurses did not take care of my dad properly as well. I do not want to single out ALL the nurses at KPPACC, but the nurses that "cared" for my dad were horrible. They were supposed to check and change him every hour. He developed large open sores because he was laying in his own pee and feces for long periods of time. The head nurses said his sores were "superficial" and that they developed because he was laying on his bed too much. That is complete fucking bullshit, and if that is the case why didn't they rotate his body every few hours so that he wouldn't develop any sores! My dad never developed sores at home because we checked on him every couple of hours! My mother filed a complaint with the head supervisor and the nurses changed for a short while. At that point we wanted to take him home, but because he had C. Diff, we had to wait for blood results to show that he was free of the bacteria. During that time we kept a watchful eye on him throughout the whole day. We were ecstatic when he finally got better and we were able to take him back home. I want to sue KPPACC for what they did to my dad. If Kaiser gives you the option to go to KPPACC, DO NOT I repeat DO NOT GO!! When you're dealing with your loved ones it's important to give them the best possible care around. KPPACC is not that at all. I WARN YOU, DO NOT ADMIT ANYONE TO KPPACC!! read more

OMG! This place is disgusting inside. I went to visit a coworker today and aside from the usual standard grossed out feeling I get when going to a nursing care facility, I was totally disgusted as I walked down the long yucky hallway to get to my friends room. The girl at the front desk in the lobby was very nice. As I walked down the long hallway there were all kinds of blue and yellow trash bins from one end of the hallway all the way to the end. They each sat on top of a mobile dolly underneath and could smell the heavy smell of urine. "Come on staff get those bins out of there." Aside from that all the medical equipment stationed down this hallway along with about 7 wheelchairs at the very end of the hallway made me wonder why I was going there. Then I remember: you're going to see R- - -. Oh yeah, so I arrived at her room. I knocked, said "hi R- - -" and entered. Looked in and saw her and there she laid in her bed missing front teeth. I had no idea her front teeth were not real. Yikes! I wanted to bolt but instead I stepped out and gave her a chance to get herself situation. The room was clean and didn't stink so that was a good thing. Room TV only gets 5 channels, which sucks if your stuck in a hospital setting for an extended period of time cuz what else is there to do but watch TV. Not one single nurse, aide or facility staff said hello to me and I did pass quite a few as wells as the floor central nursing station. The outside of the facility has somewhat of a depressed feeling about it. There were only 6 cars in the parking lot and the entire outside of the place has a dingy look and feel about it. read more

DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE IF YOU WANT THEM TO LIVE As you have read the other reviews of mistreated patients this is the norm. My Mom was sent here after hip surgery for rehab. We only chose this place because it was close to home. She was mistreated and ignored by the so-called staff. The worse was when my father found her positioned with her head where her feet should be with pillowed stuffed around her so she couldn't move and her feet raised above her head. WTF!!!! She had a head injury from her fall so having her feet above her head will cause pressure to her head. The "nurse" said it was to keep her from getting out of bed because it was too much work for them to take care of my Mom? Long story short this caused her to go into a coma and sent to Kaiser emergency in Fremont, whose mistreatment and lack of treatment caused her to die a week and half later. Also Kaiser Fremont pressured us to get my Mom out of their care. The doctor only gave us 24 hours to decide if we wanted her home or in a hospice facility. Exactly, 24 hours. The doctor called, to the minute of telling me the previous day, to ask what we wanted to do. The moral of this is NEVER GO TO KAISER for anything. read more

My mother has been there for over three weeks. She was there because she has a 'wound vac' on her foot and needs staff that knows how to manage this machine as well as physical therapy. The halls are full of staff memebers and we could not understand how she became dehydrated, anemic, suffered from severe headaches, and nausea. It would appear that they were not taking the time to do simple things. They moved her from one ward that was busy and active and more attentive to her needs to another ward that is desolote and non attentive. Because the injury is to her foot and she's been instructed not to put any wieght on her foot, she needs assistanct to the bathroom. On several occasions she rang for help and either never got it or suffered waiting. She also developed a bed sore and had never had one before. Patients share a room with one television and no bedside telephone. There is only one cordless phone the patients have to share and when ever I called to talk to her, someone else had the phone. I call and call and leave messages and I do not get calls back as far as communication with the doctors and discharge staff. We are hoping and praying and keeping our fingers crossed that she will be discharged tomorrow. We cannot wait 'til she will be home and under private care. read more

TERRIBLE PLACE!!! IF YOU LOVE ANYONE, DON'T ALLOW THEM TO BE ADMITTED THERE!!!!!!!! My 90-year old father was sent there by Kaiser to "recuperate" from the flu, and he proceeded to acquire pneumonia at the facility. If I hadn't been there day after day to personally look after him, he would have died. Period, died. They kept telling me there was nothing they could do, that some elderly people just can't get over the flu. He was dehydrated and going through delirium for 4 DAYS--while I begged someone anyone to help him and to diagnose what he had because I knew it wasn't simply "the flu." Every time I left his room and returned, there would be 4 to 6 people standing around his bed who "work" there, and were just staring at my dad going through his delirium, like it was their entertainment!!!!!!!! I finally pulled aside a doctor who didn't want to help but finally said she would look at my dad even though she didn't want to because he was not her patient. She diagnosed him with the pneumonia, got him sent to the hospital where he was hooked up to an IV and he in very short time ended his delirium and came back to a very weakened normal. Besides all of this, the place is a pit...FILTHY, with beds that don't work, aren't cleaned and food that (if someone actually brings it to you) makes hospital food look and taste glorious. I wish someone would have warned me. It was a week-long nightmare. read more

As a retired health care professional I recently suffered a stroke and was admitted to this facility. I can only say that the level of professionalism and expertise among those who cared for me, was my greatest blessing. My PT Therapists are driven, always supportive, when I want to give up! My mom was transferred to this facility with a severe case of covid-19 and a ton of other health issues a few months ago. Based on the reviews I was VERY worried she would not receive good medical care. Two months later my mom is back home and doing great. Every single interaction I had with the staff was wonderful. Reading the bad reviews unfortunately echoes exactly what I experienced. If possible find someplace better, if not, hold them totally accountable for what they do not do in a timely matter! My dad died here on the night before he was to go home. We visited everyday and the nurses would not come on time, medicine was said to have been given when it was not, the "doctor" only shows up like once a week, or less. The place smells horrible and I saw a maintenance guy(?)smash a big spider on the wall by smacking it loudly with his shoe (scaring people) and left the dirty mess there. The staff just laughed and that dead spider was still there the rest of the days we visited. No one showed true compassion. Also the ambulance guy, that transferred my dad, was an asshole. My dad needed water and no one would come when buzzed. We had to walk down to find water for him. They allow the neighbors tv to be on all night (how can other patients get a good nights rest?) and for people to wander in and out of other patients rooms. I fucking hate this place. I hate Kaiser for the elderly. A similar thing happened to my grandma in an Oakland facility, the night before she was discharged she dies. One more thing: when we went to pick up my dads personal items, none of the staff that we usually saw were there, it was like they all went into hiding and it is only from talking to his roommate that we found out more details of my dads final moment. read more

D director phoned me after this review. I was impressed by his concern and thankful and hopeful he will follow through. This facility does not follow MD orders. Two hours after my Father was transported there he fell. The orders read ambulate with a walker, a gait belt and an assistant and they did not use the walker. We signed a paper, have a DNR and told the staff that my Dad wishes no further treatments. Just comfort care. They phoned to say he had a fever and was being transported to hospital for chest xray and lab. I said absolutely not. He is comfort care only and no transport to a facility no matter what. Just treat his fever and his pain. I phoned the next morning to check on his night and they began to give me the results ofhis chest xray and lab. When I stated that I had refused all of this they said No, that I agreed to it. He has Kaiser so they wont even help you to speak with an MD. the only Md that was great was the Psychiatrist. He listened to our wishes. Maybe they just want to file false charges to obtain payment for unwanted tests? It took them over one hour to give a tylenol for pain. We put the call light on and timed it. It was not answered after 30 minutes. We brought my Father comfortable clothing but they insist putting on the hospital pants which are too tight. the Nursing assistance are polite and gave great care to my father. That is the only reason why I gave 2 stars. read more

My mother had another serious stroke, having been at high risk for additional stokes for the past 2.5 years and luck ran out. The nursing staff detected it fairly quickly and called 911, getting her to the hospital promptly. She was in hospital for about a week, and is mostly unconscious. So I have gotten to see the care for unconscious patients and I continue to be impressed. They monitor her regularly and they call me with even minor concerns, keeping me up to date. I was there for several hours the night she returned from the hospital, and several of the staff dropped by her room to see her cuz they were concerned about her, many telling me cute little stories about their interactions with her. I continue to be impressed by how many of the staff have developed friendships with mom. There were some glitches like the hospital forgot to send orders for critical care stuff (iv feeding, medications) when she was sent back.. and the head nurse spent a couple of hours on the phone getting it all sorted. I was a bit irate at the time and they remained professional and polite and took care of the situation as rapidly as they possibly could. And within about 3 hours, it was all sorted out due to the persistence of the lead nurse. She even got the pharmacy to change the delivery driver's route and make them the first stop cuz of need for critical meds. I continue to see the staff go above/beyond for the well being of the patients. read more

Do not come here. I came in for a sprain, they did an X-ray. Emergency room doctor said all I did was sprain my foot & for me to just deal with the pain. Pain is on a 9 scale. I leave, mid way home doctor calls me to go back because they looked at my X-RAYS and turns out my foot is fractured. I was in the ER For less than an hour. Turns out this doctor didn't wait for my X-rays to come back and misdiagnosed me. I go back radiologist comes out and explains the new boot I need to put on. I asked to speak to someone about filing a complaint and they wheel me back to a room, that's empty, all white, they shut the doors behind them & they show me my X-rays and I'm telling the doctor had you have taken the time to look right I wouldn't of had to come back. He keeps looking at my phone and gets mad when he realizes my phone is on FaceTime with my husband. The RN comes in & tells me these things just happen, & what did she want me for her to do, so I told her I wanted to leave because I didn't ask to be back there had they done their job right. Anyway, doctor takes my X-rays from me and refused to give them back. I'll be calling an attorney first thing in the morning. read more

Extraordinary care 24/7! Recently, my husband was fortunate enough to be accepted for 20 days of OT & PT. Dr Patel and the staff become part of your family. The therapy to walk again & be able to move a broken elbow was simply superb! Same holds true for the respiratory team. To be able to be discharged without the use of oxygen is a "dream come true"! Thank you so very much! The discharge staff made sure he had all the equipment ordered for home. Thank you also for the pleasant room. He appreciated the dietary recommendations to lower his sodium level. Best of all were the friendly, upbeat, daily care takers. read more

My mother arrived at KPPACC in mid December 2019 with multiple serious health problems: partial hip replacement surgery, Dementia, level ( 4)bed sore and Irritable bowel disease. The nurses and CNAs have gone above and beyond to provide sincere care for my mom and the other residence/patients--especially during holidays; a few less staff members. However, those staff members on duty meticulously performed to aid those in need of care. I thank the staff for their much needed care and concern. read more

**** PATIENT BEWARE **** My experience with ineptitude, negligence, illegal activity and unprofessionalism was with the department of nutrition, the certified nurse's assistants (CNAs) and the discharge and social worker department. Not everyone at this facility is incompetent. The top staff, the Administrator and the Assistant Administrator are generally interested in remedying problems. The physical and occupational therapists were good. Hold irresponsible staff's feet to the fire by demonstrating that: a) you know the law (look up discharge rights, patient rights in the Code of Federal Regulations) b) you will complain to the high heavens of medical malpractice (the KPPACC Administrator and Assistant Administrator, Kaiser Member Services, the California Dept of Public Health Licensing and Certification office in Richmond, the Department of Nursing, etc) c) you will micromanage their work d) you will keep holding them to their responsibilities until they are defecating in their pants If you have a family member or friend in the facility who is unable to completely communicate for themselves, you have to take complete responsibility for their care. 1. ILLEGAL DISCHARGE NOTICE A nurse/utilization review coordinator left an illegal discharge notice by voicemail, even though the doctor had never ordered a discharge. The nurse didn't inform us of our legal Medicare 48 hour appeal rights. She didn't leave a phone number where we could contact someone over the weekend, yet she called 14 minutes before the end of the day on Friday and said there's a discharge for Sunday. This is absolutely illegal and it's a form of harassment. Avoid the utilization review coordinator Ms. Sheeler. 2. DISCHARGE PLANNING ONLY HAPPENED BY FORCE By law, discharge planning has to start at the beginning of the patient's stay if improper or untimely discharge planning could have adverse effects on the patient's health. A week went by and there was no discharge planning. I had to insist that the administrator introduce me to the discharge planner. 3. CNAs DON'T FOLLOW SAFETY GUIDELINES The CNA was moving my father (a fall risk) by holding onto his sweatpants. He fell. The CNA never reported the fall. Although safety regulations require that a fall risk patient be moved with a gait belt, the CNAs don't. *Alert the supervising the nurse, the director of nursing or even one of the administrators. Make sure all falls are documented and that a nurse checks for bruises. 4. INEPT NUTRITION DEPT For six days, I complained in writing and verbally that my father was getting the wrong food. He's diabetic but they gave him white rice and sweets. I had to send a fax to the administrator to settle the issue. *If you have a special diet, go over the menu with the kitchen staff the day before. 5. RUDE DOCTOR Dr. Patel was extremely rude and made it very obvious that she was annoyed to have to talk to the patient's family when the patient wasn't able to communicate. She made it look like speaking to me was like speaking to vermin. TIPS: 1. BECOME THE MANAGER The only way I got things to change was when I faxed and emailed the administrator and assistant administrator. It's important to keep a paper trail of all of your communication with the staff in case you have to file a formal complaint with Kaiser or any government regulators. 2. DON'T PAY THEIR DAILY RATE IF YOU DON'T HAVE INSURANCE If you're paying without insurance, the daily rate is $700. Hiring a private nurse to come to your home is cheaper. Paying that kind of money here is worse than putting it down the drain, you might endanger your loved one's life! read more

My dad was transferred here after being in critical care at Kaiser for 5 weeks. After he recovered from bypass and they were able to stabilize him, he was in the care of nurses/docs at kppacc for a few days. The staff is wonderful, warm, caring and very knowledgeable. Unlike many places we researched before here, this place is very clean and there is a lot of energy here that I feel is very good. Rooms and hallways are constantly being cleaned. They have a great physical therapy room, a nice lounge room with a piano and a nice courtyard where we could bring my dad. Although the place is crowded, and its important to spend a lot of time there with your loved one to get the best care, I and my family and dad had a very pleasant experience here. The nurses, all of them, were wonderful, nurturing and receptive to any of our requests or my dad's needs. The key is not to avoid keeping your loved one company here, Its true that its easy for them to ignore the patient when there are more sick patients to be tended to. That is why its important to be present as often as possible. That will ensure that the patient is kept comfortable. But this is how these places work. You do have to fight for your loved one, make friends with the staff on duty and insist on getting your loved one the attention needed. This is not an ER hospital where there is one nurse for every 1 or 2 patients. The key is to respect these hard workers (who are very busy caring for very sick people), let them know your needs and they will get to them for sure. You just have to wait around to see that its done. Whatever is needed, you can get, you just have to be the one to notice it and make sure you are talking to the right people. On their own, the nurses checked on my dad every hour or so, to make sure he was ok, make sure he was comfortable and checked his vitals 3 times a day. You can always insist on talking to the head nurse and you will always have a doctor who you can contact if needed. I was wary to send my dad here after the horrible reviews right here on yelp. But after seeing the other places, I was relieved to come here and find such a nice place. read more

**********************WARNING WARNING*************************** My mother was a patient at this hell hole. I will give you all the reasons why you should not have a loved one be cared for by this sub-human care facility: 1. My mother fell 2 times under the watch of this place. They did not place the fall alarm on her as I witnessed this because i was there everyday. 2. The staff would barely ever come in and check on her other than giving her meds or putting her in the wheel chair for hours at a time or putting her back in bed. 3. My mother is diabetic and had an open wound on her large toe and it took an act of God to get them to dress the wound. When I was visiting on another day her wound was bleeding again. I had to tell the staff 3 times to dress the wound and they still would not take care of it. I then physically had to go out there to the nurse's station and tell them abruptly that this needs to be taken care of asap until they finally after having to plead sent a would lvn to dress her toe. 3. The staff responsible for administering her meds would give one of her important meds by liquid form and she would spit it out and no one in the staff would inform the overseeing Doctor that she was not getting that specific medication because of spitting it out. The also did not help my mother brush her teeth and i would go there and her teeth would be full of food....just disgusting!!! 4. On July 4th 2011 i went to visit my mom and she complained of chest pain and was not urinating at all. The staff took their sweet time after i told them she was having chest pain. The RN tried to blame me for not telling them that she had chest pain. If they would have taken time to ask her how she was feeling they would of known. I had to go to the nurses station and stand there until that called 911. She was transported to the hospital and put in ICU because she was so sick with a urinary tract infection and her cardiac enzymes were very high. You must be pro-active and advocate for you loved one especially with Kaiser or else as their motto states,"Thrive or Die!" I was a patient here for five weeks after spinal surgery. I'm also a retired medical examiner so I do know my ways around hospitals and rehab facilities. The reason I'm docking one star is that it is a busy place and the noise level, from other patients, was very high sometimes and there was some construction going on during the day. Otherwise I could not have been happier with the staff (special mention to Bea and Mercedez on the nursing staff and Richard and Eddy at PT and OT), everything was kept clean. The hallways are long and it seems like an immense place but kept clean. They do need a larger gym since it got crowded during the day with all the people getting their PT, which also necessitated some wheelchairs out in the hallways (large hallways btw) but such is life in a busy medical facility. Also, just as a side note, the dietary staff really do a good job considering the different diets they have to accomodate and some of their dishes were very good. I had spent time at two different hospital before rehab and this was by far the best food. read more
