i've always had kaiser but switched to anthem and this was my first time at a non-kaiser hospital in the bay. iwas seen today by the ER for anaphylaxis. they saw me, admitted me, and treated me SO QUICKLY. i was checked in on multiple times by doctors and nurses and everyone was kind, knowledgeable, and attentive. Later same day transfer to room at Eden Hospital given a totally different pain medication. Of course reaction from three different types of pain meds and not eating since the night before. When questioned the nurse and doctor on call was given the answer " ER doctors prescribed what they want and is different than what doctors prescribed on the floors". Does that make sense if you are given pain meds (a very low dose) and the doctors decide to give you a total of three different pain meds within 10 hours! read more

This review is only for the information desk as you enter the hospital. Any other hospital I ever been to, information desk means the place you go to when you need information. There's no requirement for you to stop at it. Not so here. As far as I can tell, there is no signage, but it is required that you stop here so that a young security guard can ask you where you're going. If that weren't enough, the manner in which he asks, is not welcoming what so ever, and makes you feel like you're doing something suspicious - absolutely crazy. I'm really tired of dealing with this. I suggest not staffing the information desk with young security guards, who apparently aren't trained in customer service. read more

My discharge paperwork was incomplete, with no diagnosis, no lab results, and no pain medication prescribed. Although my pain was temporarily relieved during the visit, it returned the next day with no follow-up plan. I have most of my care through Eden/Sutter. I have been impressed with my experiences. In 2022 I had brain surgery and was amazed with the care I received. Currently it is redoing their emergency area so the main entrance can be congested. Even so they manage to facilitate quick, efficient, and professional, check in. Unfortunately I tried to give this medical center a second chance but the doctors at this location is subpar with service and follow-up. I saw a OB-GYN and was informed to consult another doctor when I had questions. The message exchange was a joke because the majority of the time, they were on vacation. I went to Kaiser in Union City and the experience was night and day. Kaiser was on top of contacting me and answering my questions right then and there. Please don't provide medical service to people because you're wasting their time. Go somewhere else because this location has been disappointing everytime. read more

This is specific to the location and availability of accessible parking for patients with wheelchair, mobility, etc needs. The accessible parking area is ACROSS from the hospital, all the way on the other side of a roundabout in an area which is quite a distance away, far from all entrances of the MOB and hospital buildings. For those who have journeyed this and know what we know, there are a bunch of mini-obstacles for items like rollaters and wheelchairs along this pathway. Heaven forbid that it's raining at the same time as we're juggling accessibility equipment, plus the fall/trip hazard this exponentially creates (premise liability much?). More often than not, a family member has to juggle the drop off in front of the building, scramble to ensure their family member/the patient is secure/safe before hustling off to find a spot either across the way or in the stacked parking lot even further away. To add to this, either the trauma MDs or EDMDs (perhaps other providers) have been given PRIME location for parking right outside of the ED/trauma bays, in a covered area, within steps of the MOB and hospital entrances. By all means thank goodness to them for their service (and believe me when I know what that gemba is). However...if we're really thinking of patients...this is an entire line of proximal parking spots given up to _abled_ STAFF of the hospital/MOBs. This is unbelievably not patient-centric, it's almost indicative of a mindset. If parking is a must-have perk for the providers, give THEM designated parking spaces across the roundabout from the hospital/MOB and the current spots they occupy to those needing accessibility. The current configuration is so illogical. Or bring back the valet parking, please. read more

The icu here is amazing and the doctors are very caring. Some of the other care teams, however, do not care about patients' needs. [[HIGHLIGHT]]My family member stayed here for a week and the RN staff on the main floors were not responsive to their needs.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They just left them in their poop in their bed. I had to clean up for my relative and when an RN finally showed up, did not even asked. Again, a care team who doesn't care. Am very disappointed in this hospital. Much should be improved at this facility. Don't forget your pledge to patient care when you signed up for the program, if you aren't here for the patients, go do something else. I walk every day by the back side of the hospital. It is very disturbing to see the amount of cigarette butts on the ground and in the gutter. You have a non smoking campus, but how does a health facility allow their employees to dispose of their cigarette butts and trash in general into the community? This would never be my first choice nor my last choice of care . They remodeled this hospital and it's disgusting, how is that possible? I got called back but the nurse called 4 other people with me, and disputed us to different rooms and beds that were outside of rooms, a bed in the hallway is insane. EVERYONE had a bed in the hallway. I would expect this from maybe a county hospital, and I've had my fair share of county hospitals and I have never seen what I have seen here . My recent emergency room experience was one of the most humiliating and distressing experiences I've ever had in a medical setting. Patient privacy and dignity should be the absolute minimum, yet both were disregarded at Eden Hospital ER. Rachel from ultrasound asked me to disrobe less than a minute before a janitor entered my closed exam room without knocking-- and while I was undressed-- even more egregious than remaining with the door ajar after realizing the situation, he asked Rachel if he could stay to change the trash bin and she acquiesced against my wishes! The lack of a privacy curtain, the door left open, and the cavalier attitude toward my protests made me feel completely exposed and powerless. If you value your privacy or expect basic respect from hospital staff, I would strongly urge you to consider these failures before trusting this facility with your care. I sincerely hope Eden Hospital takes this seriously and enacts real changes: staff must be trained to always knock, there need to be strict policies about when non-medical personnel can enter patient spaces, and privacy curtains should be standard in every exam room. Until then, I cannot recommend this ER to anyone and will notify the appropriate staff and regulatory/licensing agencies. read more

Joyce, Cecelia and Melissa in the imaging department are ROCK STARS! The ladies were friendly, funny, professional and efficient. I was in and out in 16 minutes. Now, let's talk about the front desk at the hospital entrance. Service there leaves something to be desired. I came in and stated my first and last name as well as I was there for a mammogram. The young lady asked if I had an appointment. (Puzzled look on my face) I then ask do they take walk ins for mammograms? She replies let me find out and was DEAD SERIOUS! Yowzers!! And asked my last name for a second time. Just aloof. Her and a fellow colleague seemed more engaged in whatever they were discussing or doing prior to me walking up. I even wanted to confirm the address to ensure I was in the right place since she seemed clueless. She didn't know the address to her OWN job. At this point I was just befuddled and went to the imaging department quickly! Oh my, I hope when training staff they cover the bare basics. I would expect one to know the address and phone number to where they are employed and work at least five days a week. Mind blowing. read more

I went in to the ER for a CAT scan because my ear hurt and a fistula was found. Eden Medical center and their surgeons, were able to take me in immediately, and the next morning surgery was performed to fix the fistula. Everyone was sweet. Three years ago, I had one of the most heartbreaking experiences of my life at this hospital. After a complicated birth and a transfer to another facility for my baby's care, I was being discharged in pain and without my newborn. The nurse told my husband to pull the car to the front while they got me ready, but because it took a while to find a wheelchair, we were delayed getting outside.When we finally made it to the car, we saw a ticket on our windshield. My husband went to the front desk to explain the situation to Stacy K, the security guard at the front. Instead of listening or showing even the slightest compassion and telling us that it is only a warning ticket, she was cold, rude, and condescending. She cut him off, repeating that we "weren't supposed to park there for more than five minutes" as if we were just careless rule-breakers. To make it worse, she raised her voice and told my husband to "follow the rules next time" in front of a lobby full of people -- humiliating us in one of the lowest moments of our lives. She could have easily deescalated, shown a shred of kindness, or even just spoken to us with basic respect. Instead, she made an already devastating day even more unbearable. If the security guard, the person who's supposed to maintain safe and orderly environment-- lacks compassion. It raises serious concerns about the culture of care throughout the hospital. A lack of empathy at this level can set a tone that affects every interaction, making patients and families feel unwelcome, unsupported, and vulnerable during what should be times of comfort and healing. Kindness costs nothing, but its absence can leave a lasting scar. Three years later, I still remember her face, her tone, and her lack of empathy. Hospital staff including security need to be trained to treat people like human beings, because not everyone who's there is having a "normal" day. Sometimes, they're living the worst day of their lives. read more

My sister called me to tell me my mom was taken here after dialysis today. Please take care of my mom. When I called and asked to be transferred to the ER the lady in the ER said my mom wasn't there. Then when I was about to hang up said she was and she would transfer me to her nurse Brian. Whoever they transferred me to a lady picked up and said my mom was doing okay and that they ran some test and that my sister Linda was there with her. Came by for an X-ray and Nancy from the Imaging department was wonderful. She was very patient to every move I made since my left knee was in pain. She made sure I was comfortable and not in pain while doing the X-ray. Keep up the great work at the imaging department. Had 2 kids born here in 2021/2022. They took very good care of us, especially with the first baby as we were new parents. For the second baby, there was less bothering of us since we already went through the process. The food we had in the maternity ward was incredible. It was fresh and not like typical cafeteria food. I don't know that this was typical hospital food as this was during Covid, but let's just say for the price, we were considering coming back just to eat meals there. I'm doubtful this was their normal cafeteria food. It was that good. After a day of being there, my sinus cleared up, I think due to the hvac system. Both times being there I cleared up and could breath really well. I wouldn't go anywhere else to have a kid if I'm in that area. read more

I came in the emergency department through ambulance very early in the morning. I was in my room for a few hours and when I woke up someone told me I was changing rooms. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was in the hallway, in the hospital bed, with another patient and after about a hour the nurse asked me if I had a ride home! I didn't even know I was leaving.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was stuck in the hallway on my bed with multiple face fractures, my eye swollen shut, after being attacked and everyone looking at me. I was crying and traumatized and stuck in a hallway. My face was so bad everyone was saying God bless me as I walked out the hospital. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The people with the most empathy were the security guards. They were very sweet and I would give them 5 stars.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I will say I was in and out. I stopped coming here after COVID due to the lack of compassion and care. My daughter is in the waiting room pain level 8-10 and she's not being seen. The waiting room is chaotic and filthy. The fees charged at this hospital warrant a better level of cleanliness and help for the staff. They are overwhelmed and understaffed. If this visit didn't warrant an severe emergency visit I would leave and take her anywhere else. Her pain is to severe to move and even though this has been brought to the staffs attention numerous times nothing. Summary (Questionable Practices - Read Before Booking Audiology appointment): I booked an audiogram but was told to visit Costco for a free one instead. I originally scheduled an appointment with their audiology department for a two-part visit (ear cleaning and audiogram) with two providers. At the last minute, I received a voicemail saying the provider had an emergency and needed to cancel. Minutes later, they called back and told me to come in anyway. At the appointment, I paid a $95 copay. The doctor examined my ears and performed minor cleaning (removing two small pieces of earwax). She then informed me that no one in their department could do the audiogram and suggested I go elsewhere--even mentioning that Costco likely offers them for free. When I asked why, she said they were still hiring someone for audiograms and that even if I waited, she might not be available until June. I was billed around 700,but my insurance only covered100. Including the copay, I now owe $600 out of pocket. I filed a complaint with Sutter Health (via MyHealth Online), contacting both billing and customer service. Their only responses were: "Please understand, conversations with a physician for a referral and removal of impacted cerumen are billable services." "You have reached the Professional Billing Department, which has limited information about your physician's care." read more

Emergency Room- Head Injury-Intoxicated For starters I wasn't making a scene I was sleeping and got woken up to this nurse she looked like a Haitian-Jamaican-African girl telling me I was getting discharged and I said I don't really know what happened but my head hurts and all they did was give me 1 pill. She didn't ask how I was doing or nothing she just said I have to go and if I don't that she will call police and goes outside and tells her co workers that this wasn't a suite and that I wasn't trying to leave. I came to emergency for a reason I don't think I need to explain myself any further isn't this a trauma hospital? To the manager reading this please make sure you hire people who really have a heart and passion to take care of patients because not only are you getting paid, you guys took an oath to the position, I was not even making a scene like I said I was sleeping - when I went into the waiting room I literally see only 2 people waiting to be helped - Went home and I see that my injury is far more worse than what it looked like.
