Overall the actors and the set up was good but the wait was pretty long it would have been better and more efficient with set times to reserve.

I recently came to Kennedy Theater (KT) for my niece's white coat ceremony, which was postponed due…read moreto COVID. For those who are unaware, a white coat ceremony is a ritual where some schools of medicine and other health related fields that marks the student's transition from the study of preclinical to clinical health sciences. I had no idea what this was all about until 5 years ago where I worked at a lei shop. I recall families would order flowers for this special occasion locally or to send to the mainland to celebrate the white coat ceremony. Built and opened in December 1963, KT is located on the University of Hawaii at Manoa campus. The venue seats about 600 people and hosts various events showcasing the university's performing arts. Each student was allotted entrance tickets and parking passes for the ceremony, and I was fortunate and honored for the invite. Although KT is over 50 years old, the structure and interior are still in good shape as it's well kept. Just like any other venue, restrooms are on the ground floor and on both sides are stairwells to lead you to the theater. There were ushers from the entrance to greet you, to ensure you had a covered face mask, to receive your entrance ticket and to pass out the event's program. At that time, we were advised restrooms are only on the ground floor and then to proceed up the stairs. On the second level the usher guided us to our seats where tape was placed between every other seat for social distancing. The interior could use a face lift, but it did have character. The AC seemed on an intermittent schedule as it was warm and cool throughout this 2-hour ceremony. We sat in the middle of the theater and had no issue with the acoustics throughout the ceremony. KT is currently still enforcing covered face masks for entry. Prior to entry there were hand sanitizer and disposable face masks. To be frank, I was shocked to have witnessed families/friends who showed up to this white coat ceremony without a mask. With regards to parking, KT has a designated parking lot adjacent to this structure, as well as street parking. Overall, a very positive first experience at KT. I can envision attending a performance here. I enjoy the performing arts and this venue suits very well.

I had tickets given to me by a friend so entree was free and I took along a Japanese Student. Having been to Greece twice probably set high expectations for this event and it was kind of a let down. I enjoyed the Greek beer and Ouzo booth and the outstanding artist on guitar and singing the most. Regret not buying a CD for $10.00 to enjoy at home. I arrived around 4 pm and missed the band & dancing outside by the fountain area, that may have also lead to my mood and this review. I would have loved a gyro or one of the grilled kabobs that smelled wonderful, but the line was to long and way to far from the beer booth! Lol! It looked as if most of those in attendance were enjoying the cool ocean breezes that made this a perfect day for the event. Maybe I should have stayed longer and had a few more shots of Ouzo! It was fun but for the money, I'll go to the Olive Tree and enjoy a much better meal in honor of Greek heritage! OPAH!

Got invited by a friend to a night at the symphony to hear the works of "The Composer", Michael…read moreGiacchino. I'm ashamed to say I had no idea who he was. But after an evening with HSO, I learned he is the genius for literally scores of many notable Disney movies including Batman, Star Trek, Up, Coco, Zootopia, the Incredibles, Ratatouille.... Etc... The diversity of his music and how it is able to create both nuanced and bold feeling to the audio backdrop of so many different kinds of movies is truly Incredible! Leading this talented group of musicians, was the charismatic, artistic, athletic and cutie conductor, Dane Lam. I am sheepish to admit, I wasn't super excited to hear the symphony since I am a balletomane who has been much more into the visual spectacle of dance and musical theater with secondary appreciation for the music in the background. They totally exceeded my expectations for entertainment value and I thoroughly enjoyed the musical performance! What an awesome alignment of forces- composer, conductor, and musicians coming together to share the gift of music with the audience! What made it even more entertaining was the brief introduction of each piece by the humorous and articulate director and resident composer Dr Michael Thomas Foumai who made quick costume changes for each movie score. I am so grateful to be living in a city that has a symphony we can be proud of. I know that funding is always an issue so I hope that Honolulu can continue to sustain this uber talented group of musicians and our world class conductor! They need an audience as well as funding .... so GO HEAR THEM!

Yelp 365 Challenge #07/365…read more Everyone wants to be entertained especially for all of us that lives in the middle of the Pacific. We mourn and lament, "why can't this band come down?" However, in the recent years, there has been some pretty good bands coming to the islands. And with these good groups, I noticed the concert production company that has been hosting these events.... BAMP Project. Thus my review because their venues have been increasingly successful. Normally I will purchase tickets through Ticketmaster but BAMP Project sells their tickets through their website or Local Motion locations. Their version of tickets? A plastic card! And they will email you a receipt verifying payment. Because their concerts are all age concerts, they have designated areas for 21 & over. I am pretty impressed by their planning as well as locations (Aloha Tower and Kakaako Amphitheater). The bands? Here are a few... One Republic, Incubus (this past Friday), Paramore (8/24-sold out), 30 Seconds to Mars (9/29). Looking at these bands that they are bringing to the islands with successful ticket sales...all I can say is... Look out Hawaii, there is a new concert and entertainment production company in town that will make you look forward to the bands they bring to the islands (please bring Foo Fighters)!

And for only $25, you can sample them all and even get seconds and thirds if you desire. It's all a part of United Cerebral Palsy Association of Hawaii's annual Dessert Fantasy fundraiser, and it gets better and better every year. The event typically has over 50 restaurants and vendors who generously donate their desserts to this wonderful event. A short list of participating businesses this year included: Kakaako Kitchen, Cake Connection, Pearl City HS Culinary Arts Program, Uber Factory, Kakaako Kitchen, Nisshodo Candy Store, Dave and Buster's, Hilton Hawaiian Village, and Chocolate on a Mission, Haleiwa Joe's, Chocolate and Vanilla Bakery, The Pig & the Lady, Gros Bonnet Culinary Academy/Hale Koa Hotel, Regal Bakery, Hokulani Bake Shop, and Bubbie's. In addition to the dessert sampling, there was also a silent auction (much mahalos to Dave F. for donating his beautiful photographs to the auction), face painting, a balloon man, and live entertainment. And if you don't get to try all of the desserts, or had a few favorites that you couldn't get enough of, when the event is over, you can purchase a take out container and stuff as many remaining desserts in it as you can fit. As for me Milk makes desserts 10 times better. * Look at the paper that they hand out to you in the front this shows you what businesses are there. * Do a quick walk of the place so you know what you want to eat and grab what you want to eat. * Some of the tables had the bakers or owners handing out the dessert, so it was great asking them what I was eating and how it was made. But most of the tables had volunteers who only knew the name of what they were serving. * Don't worry of getting judged because you're surrounded with dessert addicts just like yourself. * TAKE HOME BOX at the end of the event. It only cost a mere $5. Come on now, what a deal, one of those desserts offered at the event cost more.
