We only left bc my daughter wanted to switch to gymnastics. The teachers were great. Most of all, the owners were amazing. They were so authentic and it was clear they loved all the kids. It was very family oriented. It is a safe place, great set-up, and has close circuit cameras for parents to watch classes, in the lobby. I recommend it often to other parents. If my daughter ever switches back to dance, I will gladly drive 35 minutes to this place.

My initial impression was good because they have a lot of good morals and they are actually teaching the little girls good technique. However, after a few months, I started to notice that there was a lot of distraction happening, especially in the little girls class. The instructors focus was to try and convince even younger little girls maybe two years old and younger to try and come in to take the class. The instructors attention to the girls sitting on the floor with their parents Was more than 50% of the class this really distracted my child. I had my in-laws and my husband also take my daughter when I could not and they did not have any nice things to say about the class. They mentioned that expectation was way too strict for little girls And my husband did not like the atmosphere that was set by the owners-- he said that they were not friendly toward him at all as a first time parent parent taking his child. As a dancer, myself with a degree, I also understand that temperature is important in the studio, but in the summer months it was way too hot almost 80°. I don't think this is an appropriate temperature. I don't think they carry themselves in a nurturing and comforting way. We have found the climate to be very militant as opposed to relational. They are diplomatic and do nice things for the community, but not enough to keep us here. We will not return to take class.

Having been going to FADS Katy for 4 months, and having gone to as many group classes as I can attend, my perspective has changed as I have learned more about ballroom dancing. When it comes to things we are not familiar with, beginners often over estimate their knowledge and skill level, and this is the problem with Yelp in general (crowd sourcing reviews and ratings to people who are generally not knowledgeable, or experts, about what they are talking about). At first I questioned the push for learning dances I had no initial interest in. But as I have gotten better at dancing in general, without knowing it, learning other dances besides the ones that I wanted to focus on has given me better control of my body, and understanding of the movements required to move across the dance floor. So while you may not be practicing the dance you want to specifically get better at, you become a better dancer, which makes it easier to learn, retain, and master any dance you focus on. The instructors and staff at FADS Katy are skilled at what they do, and if you put in the effort to learn and remember what they teach you, they will respond in kind, pushing you to become better at what you want to learn, reaching whatever goals you have. Their goals may or may not always align with yours, its a business. It is up to you to know what is your long term goal. But know that the path you think you want/need to take may not be the best way to get there. Luckily, its really only the introductory program where they show you the basics of the main dances. Once you complete that course, you get to choose what it is you want to focus on. For country dancing I recommending learning Two Step, Polka, and the Country Waltz. For latin dancing I recommend learning Salsa, Merengue, Rumba, and possibly Bachata. This is Texas after all. Every other Friday is a dance party with free food and booze for students and their guests. Get your party on.

Our girls have participated in gymnastics, tumbling, dance, and cheer--and we absolutely love that all of those programs are offered under one roof. It has made life so much easier for our family while allowing our girls to explore and grow in so many different ways. The coaches are incredible. This Katy Cinco Ranch location is very family oriented and has plenty of space & equipment. I have yet to have any issues with waiting to use equipment even when it is busier. You will find a surplus of treadmills, free weights, squat racks, benches, and more for all your exercise needs. There is also a child care area available for the younger ones. In addition, they also have a gymnasium with multiple side rims, as well as both an indoor and outdoor pool. Other areas available include a stretch room, cycling room, group exercise room, and another smaller weight room. They have plenty of locker/storage space as well, located is some weight rooms, outside the restroom/pool area, and inside the restrooms as well (the ones in the restroom require your own lock). One of the things I love most is they have a water fountain with a filtered water bottle filler so I can bring my empty water bottle from home and fill it with water at the Y for my workout. Another thing I appreciate are the several sanitizing stations for your hands and for wiping down equipment. Overall I'm extremely happy with this Y. The staff are very friendly, they have plenty of parking and allow 3 free guest passes per year (my previous Y made you pay for all guest passes). The only slight negative I've found so far is that they don't provide basketballs for the gymnasium due to people not returning them, which is understandable. Thus, I highly recommend this YMCA!

They don't have as much equipment as the other one in Katy, but it's not bad and it's somewhat similar, and might even be a 5 star if the greeting staff had been friendlier. It's often quite quiet in here which I like, and which you wouldn't expect considering a lot of fairly well-to-do people live around here and Cinco Ranch isn't flush with gyms (or flushing toilets) (OK it probably is). It has plenty of space and is a pretty good gym all things considered, and I'll probably be using it again in the near future. The hard part is getting in the door, of course. I'd like to try door number one, Monty.
