I am a recent transplant to Denver and was delighted when I walked in this place and saw the excellent varieties of coffee they offer. My enthusiasm was short lived however, when I was informed by the excessively handsome man behind the counter that they dark roast everything. Dark roasting fine beans is like cooking a filet mignon well done; the coffee looses its identity and you taste the roast more than the unique qualities of the beans. When I inquired as to why they do this, I was told, "basically, that's what the owner likes." When he saw my displeasure, he further replied that they were trying to differentiate themselves from Starbucks. Eh? Since I had driven several miles I decided to buy a pound of beans anyway. Upon returning home and preparing a cup, the results we worse than expected: a burnt shock to the tongue with a bitter aftertaste. A good French roast has a smokey caramel sweetness to it; this did not. If you want coffee that tastes like someone scraped the gunk off the bottom of a dirty oven and ran water through it, this is the place for you. read more

My americano tasted great and the staff was really friendly. The coffee shop is welcoming and a good place to study or socialize. Bonus points to the staff for staying calm and professional when a retired "know it all" in front of me in line came and asked 50 questions (figuratively) and she seemed to be a purported coffee guru, but still had to hold up the line with her questions (sigh). This is a cute little coffee shop. Unfortunately, I met a friend here in the evening so I couldn't try the coffee but I did have a yummy chai. The only thing that I didn't research was the fact that they close at 7. I assumed they would be open later. They get 5 stars for their coffee beans and 4 star for ambience and service. I used them via the web, a few months ago when I was told that the beans are excellent. I had a delivery order and it was very good. Then last week I decided to visit and get more beans and enjoy my free cup of coffee with purchase. The place has a rustic interior but not quit elegant. it was missing the fresh ground coffee smell and the staff was knowledgeable but In a rush and gave me the feeling of being annoyed. Not the best coffee shop to have meetings or study in, but I have never been anything but completely satisfied by their coffee. You'll be hard pressed to find a DU student who doesn't love this place. For a great change of pace, try their mate latte (I like it with almond milk). read more

Pleasant ambiance with many outlets, outdoor seating, large tables, and natural light. The staff is friendly and quick with the drinks and they all make a fantastic yerba mate latte. Free fairly fast wifi, and decent pastries too! A good place to get a bit of work done. read more

First heard of them from YouTube - they offer a coffee cupping course that's very intensive. They will also train people in person how to cup coffee as well. So we decided to go try their coffee and were not disappointed. The Sumatra my husband got was mild and not as dark as expected, but very drinkable. My mocha was delicious - not too sweet, but not too cocoa-y, either. Nice baristas, too. And the prices were fantastic. Would love to come here again soon! read more

Partially because of the great tasting coffee, cool vibe and nice people that work there, but also because I work for a non-profit and they always give us a donation for our silent auctions/events. I dig it here. The coffee is some of the best I've had, and the breakfast burritos are good for Saturday morning study time at the local cafe. The only downer is that it can be hard to find a place to sit, and parking can be tricky. Other than that, the food and the service are super duper and it's a great place to buy a pound or two of java. read more

Here's the thing. This place has great coffee, and the staff is lovely, and the atmosphere is great. BUT it feels like they never turn the goddamn heat on. I go in here to do work pretty often, and I've felt forced to leave at least 30 times due to discomfort because of the cold. I'll be sitting there with my coat on shivering. Evening when I come in during the summer, they're BLASTING the air, and I literally can't come in without a sweater. I don't know if the owner was raised on the ice-planet Hoth or what, but I know I'm not the only one to have an issue with it, because I've heard multiple other customers complaining about it on multiple occasions. These folks are coffee perfectionists. Absolute best espresso I've had in the Denver area. (Italian espressos still hold a special place in my heart). I don't know the official term - crema? But they get the best, thickest head on an espresso, hands down. If you've never had a well made espresso with ultra fresh beans, this is the place to get it. I made my first trip to Kaladi Brothers Coffee this Saturday and I was so impressed! The staff is friendly and the location is great! Moreover, the espresso-based drinks are to die for! It's only a few minutes away from my grad building, and the coffee is so good. My favorites are the hot and iced coffees, chai latte and mocha. Plus, they give a small discount if you bring your own mug which really adds up. Their coffee is the freshest and tastes the better than any other local coffee shops I have tried in the Denver Metro area. The employees are also very friendly and are more than willing to offer their friendly suggestions on what kind of coffee they like/dislike or on a drink to try. So kaladi brothers would get 4 or 5 stars for good coffee, friendly baristas, and cool counter space ( I dunno... I liked the set up I guess.) Other than that, I was pretty disappointed. I had high hopes after all the hype. I ordered an americano which was decent but not extraordinary. I sat at a table to study for a while and the place filled up in waves. At one point, a friend called me and I had to step outside cause it was so loud. The seating wasn't great either... A few tables and some window bar space, nothing with privacy. I love, Love, LOVE Kaladi Coffee on Evans. I live in the neighborhood and go here almost every weekend to hang out, visit with the baristas and start my weekend off right. When I'm not in the 'hood I search it out in my other favorite neighborhood of Mayfair. Geez Louise Coffee on Colfax serves it up and although it is on the other side of town, I'm glad Kaladi is featured here and in other independent coffee shops in and around Denver. read more
