I had never tried Kaladi Brothers until this past weekend while my mom was staying at Porter Hospital. Kaladi Brothers Coffee is wonderful. They roast their own coffee and make a terrific latte. Delicious coffee. Best cup in the neighborhood, if not city. A friend of mine used to work here and one day she suggested I try the Venetian Creme. Not too sure what it was, not too sure if it is still available, but damn. That beverage had me bouncing. It was an iced drink, I know that much and it was produced from a tap rising from the depths of behind-the-counter-top so I am sure it held some secret coffee curse that has plagued me since leaving Denver. This place is fine. It's full of neighborhood yuppified folk. They roast on the premises, so you leave stinking like roast coffee (possibly a feature if you're into that). The coffee they make there is really outstanding, but oddly when I take the beans home, it doesn't seem to work as well. Maybe it was the roast I selected. The place is pretty small so it's tough to find a table sometimes. They did just break down and add wi-fi, but I don't think the staff is happy about it. The service is perky to surly depending on if it's female or male, respectively. read more

I stopped in to see if the urban legend was true...fresh yerba mate lattes, made straight from the espresso machine. I was not disappointed. Both varietals (hot and iced) are absolutely delicious! And the folks behind the counter were friendly too - they let me try a solo shot of mate fresh off the press. When in Denver, this is a must-stop. read more

Kaladi Coffee is still going strong and I'm happier than ever that they are. While newer roasters in town are doing the under-roasted, "third wave" thing (with flavors that are euphemistically known as "bright" while actually tasting just sour), Kaladi continues to roast in the traditional form and their coffee is all the better for it. I've recently discovered the distinct, delicious flavors of Ethiopian coffees and Kaladi roasts these to bring out those flavors. Made in an Aeropress (which was recommended by a barista here and he was so right about the method), I couldn't be happier. Keep doing what you do, Kaladi, you know your roast. read more

Kaladi coffee is by far the best coffee in Denver, both brewed at the shop and beans by the pound. The staff is also one of the best in town, always friendly and conversational. It's near DU, so there is a decent amount of foot traffic - and generally parking on the street out front isn't too hard. Every city could us e a couple Kaladis. read more

As a caffeine dependent college student nothing brightens my day like the soft jingle of bells as I open the door at Kaladi Coffee. I am met with a wave from one of a collection of friendly baristas, and never hesitate to step up to the counter for the caffeine fix I need. Kaladi Coffee is a quaint and cozy spot for a cuppa Joe with delicious drinks and an informal, welcoming atmosphere. I have become something of a regular at Kaladi since starting classes at the University of Denver this past September. My usual order is a chai latte "for here." Although I enjoy several of their other drinks, including the Venetian Cream, a sweet iced coffee beverage that is served right from the tap, and their Americano brew which offers a rich yet simple flavor profile. Kaladi is usually quite busy, but for good reason! The coffee is worth waiting in line for. There generally is a line, but in my experience it tends to move quite fast. The small space has a bustling yet calm atmosphere. As I sip my drink I take in the room's warmth and allow the soft buzz of conversation to lull me into a calmer headspace. I find the cheerful and eclectic vibe very pleasant, but it may not be the best space for silent focused studying. I also think it worth mentioning that it is often difficult to find a seat because the space itself is quite small and the coffee quite popular amongst locals, particularly DU students. This is in part because Kaladi is conveniently located for University students, a very short walk from campus, and is quite easy on the college student's budget. Mostly, though, it is because of the wide variety of mouthwatering caffeinated drinks, all of which I would recommend highly! read more

This is a nice place to buy a well brewed cup of coffe. Because they brew on-site, you can buy the beans green to roast your own coffee. I also like that the business takes a very strong stand on selling fair trade coffee. read more

Kaladi Brothers, I would dare to say, has the best espresso in the city. It is consistently rich and full of flavor, something that I have been unable to find at most coffee shops in Denver. In addition, I have always had great service with a smile at Kaladi Brothers! Sometimes it will take a while longer to get my drink because the staff will be chatting it up with a customer, which I like because it evokes a sense of community, and the wait is always worth it!! The only down side is the lack of seating at Kaladi, so I usually just grab my drink and run (this can also be attributed to the fact that I have probably parked illegally, because just like the seating, there is not much in the way of parking)... I have also found that the prices fluctuate (for the same drink) depending on who is ringing me up; and lets just say it is usually cheaper when a dude is at the register. But bottom line, they have the best espresso in Denver! read more

Had to stop in here for a quick latte and to get some change, I wish I had more time and was able to spend some time here. The interior of the place was really nice and clean and there were a lot of people in there. The customer service was great and the guy was conversational and funny. The coffee was done fairly quickly and tasted great, wasn't overdone or burnt like will happen at other establishments. There wasn't that much parking because of all the other local business, had to park about 2 blocks down and walk back. The only reason I gave it four stars is because I didn't have enough time to fully take in the place, WHEN I come back and spend a few minutes here I will readdress my review and more than likely bump it up to a full 5 stars. read more

The staff is super helpful and very knowledgeable about their products. Best coffee in town! I love this place. It can be a bit busy, so I prefer to just come to get my coffee to go. In the warmer months I would recommend getting the venetian cream coffee drink -- just get ready to be over caffeinated for a few hours! This is the best coffee joint in Denver. I usually get a Jumbo Americano, Bora likes a nonfat latte. I lived in Portland, Seattle, and San Francisco, where there are some real coffee snobs, and I'd put Kaladi in the ring right next to the very best this country has to offer! Four stars seems just right for "no place anywhere close is as good, but it could be so much better". It is not 'as good as it gets' or 'the best coffee in Denver'. Not even close. It is friendly, comfortable, and better than Starbucks by a good margin. It's also disappointing. Scorched, styrofoam milk glopped over a burnt pull isn't really a cappuccino. I genuinely do like this place. I just wish they'd step it up a little bit and become great. read more

Great little independent, beatnik/hippie/hipster coffee place. I'm not a big coffee drinker myself so I typically order the spice chai tea latte. It is delicious! After drinking Kaladi's chai, I'm unable to drink Starbucks' because their chai is so bland compared to Kaladi's spice. The first time I came to Kaladi, I was meeting a friend for coffee and it was a good experience. Nice, warm atmosphere; tasty chai; and a good diversity of students/locals. Nonetheless, I wasn't impressed enough to write a review... until I came back for my second visit. Yesterday I came into Kaladi in the middle of the day. I made a point to come in when it would be slow, because I wanted to ask a *lot* of questions. I just moved to Denver a couple of months ago and just ran out of my favorite grounds I had brought with me from my hometown, and it was time to find my Denver grounds. I walked in and explained my situation to Erin, one of the ladies behind the counter. She immediately walked me over to their board of coffee varieties - an extensive list that instantly overwhelmed me, a gal who just drinks one cup of coffee a day and can barely describe the kind of coffee she likes in the first place! Erin was super patient with me and asked me how I take my coffee (a teaspoon of coconut oil and a splash of soy creamer, in case you're wondering), how strong I like it, bitter vs. smooth, etc. She then used my answers to narrow the list down to three different varieties, and brought over the buckets full of those beans so that I could smell each of them. When I couldn't decide between the three, she offered to grind me 1/3 lb. of each one, so I'd walk away with a pound of grounds but three different kinds to try out. I was totally impressed and so grateful that she was so patient with me - not to mention so knowledgeable about all these different varieties! TL;DR: I will definitely be coming back to Kaladi for my local coffee grounds, and I *highly* recommend Erin, who was patient and kind and incredibly knowledgeable about all their different kinds of coffee beans. By far the best coffee (that I've had). I was pretty content with Stumptown Roasters in Oregon, even had the monthly pound of Sumatra sent to my home here in Denver to satisfy my "good" coffee craving - that ended a year ago. Kaladi is now my coffee roaster of choice. I never hang out there because it is often too busy (which makes it a little loud) for a graduate student to study - but the coffee keeps me coming back. My parents now ask for a pound a month. Try the Gayo Mountain Sumatra (back after almost a year - and was it missed!) - quite possibly the best roast. Independent, funky, expensive art for sale on the walls and kind of grungy-what else could you ask for in a coffee shop? Well, their coffee is the best also! I found this place, dare I admit, on my way to a Starbucks and I'm glad I did. The double Americano was twice as good at the one from the big green label and the laid back atmosphere was perfect for a Tuesday morning. Good atmosphere, bad coffee. The reviews for this place are outstanding, but my coffee experience was poor. I ordered an espresso macchiato, which is supposed to be an espresso shot with a small dollop of steamed milk on top. The drink I got was more of a 50/50 mix of espresso and foamed milk. This wouldn't necessarily have been a deal breaker, except that the espresso itself was over-extracted (or over-roasted) to the point of being acrid. Overall, the coffee tasted no better than Starbucks. Based on the positive reviews by other patrons, I can only assume that the barista pulled a bad shot. I brought in my own cup for an iced drink and they gave it back to me dripping wet. Literally no napkin, no apology, just a soggy mug. It was my first time there this morning and right off the bat there was a really rude barista. I didn't catch his name, but it was a blonde curly hair guy so beware people. I asked him what his recommendations were for a sweet drink and he seemed like he didn't care to help me. Then I decided on the Venetian cream and asked for it with soy milk. He gave me a wtf look like I was stupid and said it didn't come with milk. That drink certainly had some kind of dairy product and it also straight up tastes like this instant coffee mix called VinaCafe (it's a Vietnamese Brand) with extra sugar. The only reason why I gave this place two stars was because the cashier lady was super nice. read more
