I'm very frustrated with this resort. While I have not visited it, the frustration in booking alone has convinced me not to stay. Firstly, they have a bunch of promotions. So many in fact that navigating to find the correct deal for your family is really agitating. Some of the promotions you have to specifically call about to redeem. I contacted Kalahari via e-mail explaining the dates that I wanted and that I wanted the lowest possible rate and was responded to with a precanned message asking me to call. When I called I reached a person with a heavy accent who's only goal was to get me to book a more expensive room than I had wanted and had no interest in helping me get one of the better deals. So my biggest irritation here is that I feel like if I'd go I'd be ripped off. If I go two days after I want to go I can go for $99.99 per night. If I go two weeks latter I can book for $120.00 a night. I can get a hut room in PA for $150.00 a night instead of $200.00 a night. Despite the days I want to go being WEEKDAY school days somehow they are worth more? Anyway, no thanks. The lack of help alone and the difficulty just getting black and white information makes me uninterested in visiting. It's just a hassle and feels like a game. I just want black and white and peace on our vacation and a fair price that when I look the next day I don't realize I've been overcharged. read more

Our first time at this park and I was nervous because I was reading the unfavorable reviews. However, we ended up being very impressed with the park and the resort. Our rooms was very nice and very clean. Housekeeping was wonderful and very helpful. All staff were friendly and welcoming. We ate at the buffet and the food was great. Our waitress was very nice. The water park was clean and we all had a blast. We plan on coming back. read more

We got here and check in was a breeze. We got to the cabana check in and I had to pay $80 more. When I reserved the cabana, the fine print said I could make a partial payment but then if the rates went up, I had to pay the whole remaining balance but if I paid it in full I was okay. Then the lady got snippy when I was asking her to explain why I have to pay more on my reservation. We got into the park and the cabana didn't have our name on the chalkboard and there were dirty towels thrown in there like someone was just using it!! We had a decent day at the park. Then hit up the arcade... some spots are closed off due to covid but they aren't marked very well so little kids could see it. We wasted quite a bit of credits bc of this. Then we come to our room to go to bed. One bed has sticky stuff on it like Candy or something. So a lady came in and changed it. The kids pulled the blanket off of another bed and found more stuff on their bed and pillow!! So we had to wait longer to get to bed after our long day.. I'm not happy at all. I always love going to Kalahari. It's a nice little getaway that's close to home. The only downside this time was staying in the main hallway because about 1am people were a little rude and noisy when we were trying to sleep. Other than that I've never had issues with kalahari. I've been here at least over a dozen times and I never will get sick of this place. Even as an adult I still enjoy the water slides pools hotubs everything! The food here is great the gift shops are awesome. Activities even for adults is great too. Even the game room I enjoy. I can't wait for my trip next year! The escape rooms are perfect for families! They are not overly difficult and kids will enjoy them!

Love the waterpark which is why the resort got any stars. Stayed in February with my 3 kids in a suite to celebrate 10 years of going to waterparks. Instead of getting complimentary upgrades to a suite as others do, I actually paid for 2 nights in a suite and parked my car in valet to ease the loading of luggage as there are few carts to actually be found at checkout time. I saw Bellman placing them in a room.so you are either forced to go outside and freeze walking to timbutku where your car us, or valet. I chose the second option which was a disaster and a classic case of inefficiency and disorganization..I waited 15 minutes and saw multiple people even those behind me leaving and still no car. When I walked and asked where my car was there was silence until it was admitted my ticket couldn't be found. With the traffic in and out I had multiple members looking and delaying my family and others. Visually looking at the idea, it was a jumbled pile of keys and tickets. It's honestly a miracle how they find anything. This was non peak day also. I mentioned that this was a spare hey so could someone visually look for my car in the lot so I could put bags in the car and be warmer instead of standing in the lobby in -10 windchill weather to which I was told that if they found my car and not the key it would be sent priority to me when it was found which is unacceptable..I got the manager involved as we were pushing 45 minutes of this fiasco. My key was found and my car was located and we were quieted only with snacks from the candy hut. There was a talk of a credit from the valet but that never materialized. Shocked actually not at all. Poor business Kalahari and considering how much it actually costs business wise to lose customers but I actually don't think they care. For years I actually bypassed cold food, cold water, inappropriate clothing from guests(more crack than I want to see in my life), overpricing all over the resorts and cheap arcade toys but this was the final straw. And honestly I was the biggest fan of this waterpark. I guess even the greats can fall. But at least fall with grace which was not achieved here. read more

We went to the Easter Brunch today and I am so incredibly disappointed! Went previous years and was wonderful. This year was crowded because it wasn't in the convention center; no signs to help us figure out where it was; employees had no idea; food was SO bad and choices SO limited I couldn't even believe it. Previous years were wonderful and worth the $40/person. This year wasn't worth $10 so we really got ripped off. I think their deserts were shipped in from somewhere and weren't even appealing. This is the first time we've been to a Kalahari Resort and it will be the last. Currently writing this in our overpriced hotel room. I'm not sure why the military rate was MORE than a winter special. Makes 0 sense. We got this room for about triple the price of what we spend at Shades of Green in Disney. The room itself is okay but nothing special. The waterpark was extremely packed and the arcade is so full of games that you can't hardly walk through. We ate lunch at DLuxe Burger and it was bland and overpriced. $17 for a burger that was supposed to be topped with cheese curds and it had 3. 3 small cheese curds on a pre made burger patty. My husband ordered two adult beverages at the waterpark- both overpriced, nothing special, and had WAY too much ice. The only positive so far has been that my 3 year old doesn't care about the bad food, cramped waterpark, or the fact that I'm up at midnight writing this because there are people literally screaming in the halls and running up and down. Save your money and go to a different "resort" because this is absolutely horrible. read more

Me and my family..... stayed at the Sandusky property...upon check in ....on March 26...we walked in the room....and it smell liked cigarettes..... I called the front desk they sent someone up to spray the room The lady told me to open the window so I could get a cross breeze I open the window and the screen was completely ripped look down at the air conditioner and there's black mold on it and food in the vents and the vents are clogged.... We put our clothes off to the side and headed down to the water park we come back to the room about 7:00 to get ready to go to dinner and take a shower My wife steps into the bathroom and there's blood dried into the shower surround and boogers on the bathroom wall and hair everywhere.. I called back down to the front desk and told them my wife was going to take a shower at the waterpark they said they would send somebody up eventually somebody got there she was a supervisor and insured me that this would all be logged.. We returned from the game room to get ready for bed and my daughter steps in liquid latex or something next to her bedand on the sheets.. she is a germaphobe so it really freaked her out she was here for a cheer competition and they told me they would send somebody up to change the bedding no one came..now she wouldn't sleep in the bed so she's on the fold out couch I again called down to the front desk they offered to take one night off I guess they thought that that would be worth it The next day as we headed down to cheer I again went to the front desk and talked to The front office supervisor or manager because I was not talking to the managers anymore it was past that Chris assured me that that's not how they do things.. he said what can I do for you and I said you can make the rest of my stay uneventful and go out of your way to make sure things are right at the property I left came back down later after our friends that had a cabana next to us were asked if they were really renting that by the supervisor that was very off-putting and I was extremely upset I came back down to let Chris know really just blew me off The next day I am at the water park with my children this was the best part of the whole trip we are there during covid-19.. and the lifeguard was trying to stop one of the rafts and got kicked in the mouth and nose he starts bleeding I jump up and throw him a towel because I was waiting for my children to get off the raft I didn't run to the bar and ask Brooks to please give me some napkins and to call somebody he says he will I hand the kid the napkins I now jump in the water to try to assist with getting the rafts out so he can attend to his bloody nose. Bythen there is a supervisor there and ask him if he's okay I couldn't hear the conversation but I think he wanted to get out of the water he was left there with a bloody nose I again go back to Brooks and ask him to please call another supervisor because this is not acceptable he is holding the raft touching guests with his bloody hands and I am completely worried not to mention grossed out disgusted are some choice words The next supervisor comes down I explained him what has happened he said he's not bleeding that much and leaves.. I didn't go back to the front desk and tell Chris again this is crazy how many times do I have to be here how many times do I have to not enjoy my vacation with my family.He assures me he's going to look into it and and says he will get back to me it is now Friday we got home Wednesday the 31st I have not heard from him nor have I heard from the GM I am super disappointed that this is the way you guys are running your property...and to offer me one night off and one night's future lodging doesn't cut it....Have somebody get in touch with me please before I get in touch with the better Business bureau....worst stay..and your efforts to recover we're ..at best minimal treat the guests with some empathy..... I had such a blast here! The atmosphere of the hotel is splendid. Everything has that "safari" feel, and it really makes you feel integrated into the resort. Staff: The front desk and valet staff members were all extremely helpful and kind. I was there for Colossalcon (convention similar to Comic Con), so we were all dressed in costumes and just general weirdness, but the staff did not treat us anything less than respectful. Nothing but praise for them. The lifeguards... ehhh. They're pretty apathetic. At times, it's actually hard to tell if it's your turn to sit down on the slide as they won't turn and look at you. You have to watch their body language or chance getting on the slide too early. Need some improvement there, but it was so much fun that it didn't stunt my overall enjoyment of the water areas. Food: On the whole, the food was good if a bit overpriced--although that's to be expected in a hotel/resort. The one food item which was downright awful was the chickpea burger. I've been a vegetablehead for a decade, so I've had my fair share of chickpea burgers. There was no sauce on it (or kale, which was printed on the menu), and it wasn't cooked in any way. It literally fell apart when you tried to pick it up, and I ended up eating it with a fork. However, their vegetables were all delicious, and the crispy items (french fries, tater tots, etc) were wonderful. The candy shop was so much fun, and the morning breakfast bar was great too. Water parks: Those slides are no joke! One of them--a red one which *looked* super boring and basic--was so incredibly fast that I almost threw up lol. That's, apparently, why that one had no line. Not for the faint of heart! They were all pretty fun though. My favorite was probably the yellow one that could seat four people at a time. The orange roller coaster one was great, too. The wave pool and lazy river provided nice relaxing contrasts to the slides. I didn't do much outside as it was a bit too cool for swimming out there, but it looked fun as well. Animal sanctuary: Sadly, I did not have time to visit during my stay. However, I loved listening to the animals in the morning when (presumably) their keepers were feeding them, tending their pens, etc. So energetic and dramatic lol. "FEEEEEED MEEEEEE!" Also, I got to watch one of the keepers walking two llamas around the grounds. So cute lol. Arcade: This was a lot of fun! I won the 1000 ticket jackpot on one of the games woohoo! $20 actually got me farther than I thought it would. I got to play probably a dozen games before the $20 was spent. read more

I attended a conference at Kalahari and it was my first visit. After long days of learning and networking it was nice to go to one of the three restaurants and then to the water activities. I was disappointed to find that the lazy river was closed/broken but the bartender at the hot tub bar more than made up for it. He turned the hockey game on and even turn s the sound on and he made gray drinks. A relaxing time was had for sure and very appreciated. read more

Based on the Kalahari website guidelines on how they are currently handling the Covid 19 pandemic and still accommodate guest, I thought this might be ok to do. I was wrong. It took us 1 hour to check in room was not even ready at 5:20 pm. We had to sign a COVID contract agreeing to follow the guidelines, you know wear a mask when advised and try to not be too close, everything that we are all used to. This place is in a world of its own. While they claim to be following guidelines, they are not. No one wears a mask anywhere not even in the lobby, halls, anywhere. This place needs to be reported to the state for false claims to get you in the door and pretending that they are keeping everyone safe. Life guard in the floating river attraction, eating food on the job. Gobs of hair floating around in the waiting areas of the water slides. Rusting stairs and beams in the water parks. Rooms are not quiet, if you have the idea of relaxing forget it, walls are paper thin, sheets are still. We had no coffee pot in the room but maybe because of Covid, but why would that matter here...Covid does not exist in this facility. Not even amongst the staff walking the halls. read more

We come about once a month and always try and coke in the middle of the week so it's not busy. We did that this month but apparently the entire state of Michigan is on spring break this week and they all decided to come to Kalahari. We checked in and went into the waterpark and to our surprise it was packed. They had literally sold more tickets than there were seats, and we're renting out tables for 200$ when normally you can get a cabana for about 100$. I sent a text to the help line to see if we could reschedule and they said to ask the front desk so we waited in line for half an hour and we're told there was nothing they could do as we'd already entered the waterpark. How are you supposed to know they over sold tickets before entering the water park?? They need to be much more transparent about when they're full, lower the amount of people they let into the waterpark at any one time, or start a fast pass program. There's no reason I should have to stand in line for an hour for a 30 second ride with the amount of money you pay to stay here. read more

Way more than expected! So happy this last minute B-day stay was everything my daughter wanted! Especially since reservations were canceled by somewhere else. The ONLY thing I would mention is maybe there are plumbing issues? The shower wouldn't get hot (but warm enough). The toilet wouldn't make a full flush and the sink had a slow drain. If I could give a negative star, I would. Austin Lansdell responded to my comment card with just a thank you and that he will speak to staff. Ok, this is about our 6th time there and we spent well over $1,000 for one night. This place was absolutely DISGUSTING. There was feces on the floor of the bathroom near the adult hot tub. Two rides kept shutting down. Trash was everywhere. You would be waiting on the stairwell to a ride and you could see trash thrown all over the place, gum and hair. The tiles are falling off the tables in the adult hot tub. All the workers look miserable and never smiled. Our room was so gross and even had a huge mystery stain on the wall. The sliding door wall lock was broke and didn't even work. We had a 2 room suite and the kids were near the door. Their room even locked from their side. This is such a fire hazard. The 2 room suite was built by a moron. There is one main light that controls all of them. Lunch cost us $87 for 2 adults and 3 kids! Such a rip off. We left and picked up Panera for $33 nearby for or dinner. After Austin's response, we will never patronize Kalahari again. I have been here many times and all of my trips were great. This last one was HORRIBLE!! The room : We booked a room with an oversized jacuzzi tub in it. The tub was basically the center piece of the room. Only half the jets worked. There were multiple places where the paint was chipped and pealing off the walls. The bathroom door was poorly fixed where you could tell someone punched a hole in it. Seeing that we paid for an upgraded room I would expect a little more attention to detail. It felt like a cheap honey moon suit at a pay by the hour motel. Room 4225 if you're wondering The water park : When we go we get a cabana in the water park. With the cabana comes a safe, fridge, bottles of water, a tv, and cabana service (room service). We were greeted by someone when we first arrived but never saw them again. The safe was not functioning, we did not get the bottles of water, and when we called to place a food order nobody showed up. When it was time to leave I brought up my concerns to the people at the desk. The person I first spoke to was very apologetic. He told me he was new and directed me to the girl who was at the desk with him. She told me that there was no way I was telling the truth and that I should find a manager if I want to complain about it. The new guy took my name and number and said he would give it to a manager for me. I never got a call. I guess kalahari just doesn't care about its customers anymore. read more

Rooms- rooms are nice comfy, clean, everyone has a clean balcony. Tax is super expensive, so keep that in mind if you are considering upgrading rooms. While we've visited this location a few times, our most recent stay this weekend was the best we've had. The addition of enhanced wrist bands unlocking room doors and linking to credit cards / accounts is stellar. This alone makes things MUCH more convenient for guests. I just noticed lower peep holes for children to see who is at their room door before opening - new or not - genius. The addition of B-Lux grill & bar means we will no longer need to leave the resort for food - excellent choice. Thank you for making this our #1 water park destination. read more

We scheduled our stay on December 2 and tried to reschedule due to the mass amount of snow that is coming. We are now going to loose $400 due to them not working with us to get ahold of Groupon. The worker who I first talked to(Bethany) was very nice and understanding however The supervisor Cindy was not helpful at all and was in a bad mood from the second she answered the phone. They tried to flip the blame onto us for booking through Groupon and seemed to not care at all that we are now out of our money! read more

Kids have a great time but the water in the main kids play area is so cold!!! I can't stand to be in it at all. The wave pool is cool and the little toddler play area under the racing slides is really cool. Once you get into the jacuzzi it's almost too cold outside of it to get out it's freezing inside. The booking process for this resort is a joke. You can book online (and book MULTIPLE TIMES and get reservation confirmation emails every time) but within a half a day they will cancel your reservations (every single time - multiple reservation) with no explanation in the email. Trying to call customer service is a nightmare (expect a minimum of a 30 minute wait on the phone to try to talk to a human. It took 2 hours to get a follow up the last time our reservations were cancelled). When you do speak to a customer service rep they will essentially tell you "too bad, the room isn't actually available so we cancelled". When you point out that you are currently online and the room is available to book online YET AGAIN they have no answers as to why you can book a room that doesn't actually exist. read more

Family of 4 for an overnight stay. We had been to Kalahari years ago in the middle of winter. This time we went in the summer and got to experience the outdoor water park as well. First things first the lobby and check in process was excessively long. They had a lot of stations open and many staff members were working but it still seems like it took way longer than necessary. Our room was not ready (you can arrive as early as 12pm to get access to the waterpark but actual room checkin time is 4pm) so we checked our bags at luggage services and went to the Waterpark. The layout of this hotel/waterpark is VERY confusing. Signage was not very prevalent and maps were less than helpful. It was quite busy and we decided to try the outdoor water park first. We had trouble finding available lounge chairs, the Kalahari provided life vest racks for little ones were empty and there wasn't really anywhere but a one room bathroom to change outside. (I now realize that the locker room to change was by the indoor waterpark but based on previous statement of confusing layout, we couldn't find it at the time). Once we got situated we did thoroughly enjoy the pool, and the new Bugs Burrow with our 22 month old. Our 15 year old went off to the big slides and he said they were amazing. We got a text that our room was ready at about 3:30pm. It was a nice, clean room and decent size for the 4 of us. After getting our stuff to the room, we tried the indoor water park. Our toddler loved the Coral cove and safari kids area. Teen loved the wave pool and slides there as well. I get that the life guards are mostly there to protect the people in case of emergency but there was almost 0 customer service from any of them. If you asked a question about a particular ride they acted as if you were annoying them. Granted there were soooooo many people that were blatantly ignoring common pool rules and kids were left unsupervised at ages I did not feel was appropriate and acting up, but my husband noticed that almost all the lifeguards had looks on their faces like they hated their jobs and sometimes there's just no other staff around to ask if you have a question. Breakfast at Great Karoo was phenomenal! Overall we had a good time and will probably be going back again next year. read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE..I HAD A RESERVATION THEY HAD GIVEN ME AND ANOTHER FAMILY THE SAME ROOM. THEIR KEY WORKED MINE DIDNT, SOME STAFF TRIED A COUPLE OF SURROUNDING ROOMS. THEY CALLED FRONT DESK A LADY CAME AND TOOK MY PACKET TO GET THINGS STRAIGHT. WE WERE LEFT STANDING IN THE HALLWAY FOR 2 (TWO) HOURS B4 another lady came asked for my ID my sciatica was reaching the extreme level of pain she saw that and offered to take my suitcase which was the only blessing we were on floor 1 then had to walk to the 6th floor where I was ready to cry. The kids were upset because they were ready to get in the water when we got there at 1535 but waiting in the car lane and the room mix up took time it was nearly 1800 when we got to the room, I could only lay down we were only offered a breakfast buffet. I usually don't get up early to eat breakfast so another inconvenience.. I ate an omelet the kids grabbed a muffin and juice big waste but they wanted to play. Also a 1230 checkout but that's nothing when you have to use the breakfast voucher. Last time I came with my daughter and children was enjoyed much more. This time was a disaster but was supposed to give me a caretaker break as my mom needs 24/7 care. Only added to the stress. UNBELIEVABLE mostly all I got was sympathy, and I'm so sorry. Lets just go through the time-line of events as I won't try to bore you with every single detail. We arrived on Tuesday Sept 26th, 2017 around 6:30pm. We opted for the complimentary room inspection of our Hospitality Suite. Although, I did feel that they were perturbed at the fact I did request the room inspection the room was clean and free of the rumoured Bed bug epidemic that haunts any and every hotel. We did not opt to eat at Kalahari during our stay as I felt the hotel was not busy enough to have "fresh" food. So, fast forward to our next morning at wake up. We woke up refreshed and ready to hit the Waterpark for the day. I also chose to stay a second night in the hotel as we did enjoy our quiet time away from family. I rented a Wave Cabana at a discounted rate since the park wasn't busy at all. This was a good bonus as your stuff is secure and you also have a waiter that can bring you everything you need. Like those drinks you'll enjoy while the kids are playing, or fighting depending on the day. Even though some rides were closed due to either maintenance or lack of employees it was still enjoyable. I would recommend a cabana away from the wave pool as it gets quite hot under the glass panels that allow you soak in the suns' rays! I noticed some things as its been about 4 years since my last visit to Kalahari. Time to clean the place up. Carpets are stained and obviously in need of changing. Water slides need replaced, especially around the kids areas. The paint or coating is coming off of a lot of the children's areas, things don't work like they should or are broken due to no use or no maintenance. We did find some mold in the ceiling of our suite in the bathroom and this goes back to maintenance. Our thermostat had a hole the size of a softball behind it and was dangling by a single screw. Again, Its a nice place. Its an expensive place. Just needs details taken care of. We will no longer book in advance as we do not have to stay here. read more

Stayed at the kalahari in Sandusky Ohio. Came home with scabies. Most disgusting experience I've ever had in a hotel. Doctor said it's most likely from the bedding. Do not stay here. read more
